Normani has shared a new single, “Candy Paint.” The fast-talking track is the second listen off the singer’s forthcoming debut solo LP, Dopamine, out June 14 via RCA Records. She previously teased the song in a trailer for the album earlier this month.
“Candy Paint” follows “1:59” featuring Gunna, which Normani dropped in April. The song, written and produced by Normani alongside Brittanny “Starrah” Hazzard and Tommy Brown, sees her drawing inspiration from Houston’s iconic candy-painted lowriders. “If you let me take it you might not ever get him back,...

It was a great week for the top two albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tracking week that ended May 23, but for Billie Eilish‘s highly anticipated third album “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” huge personal-best numbers weren’t enough to surpass Taylor Swift‘s “The Tortured Poets Department,” which spent its fifth straight week at number-one. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
“Tortured Poets” was actually up a whopping 45% to 378,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. As Billboard reports, the gain was due to new digital album and CD variants, plus multiple deluxe CD editions being back in stock. “Hit Me Hard and Soft” achieved 339,000 units, which is Eilish’s best week ever, better even than her blockbuster debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” which started off with 313,000 units.

Taylor Swift is not letting go of the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, settling in at number-one for a fourth week, and judging from her minuscule week-to-week dip, she may stay in the upper echelons for quite a while. “The Tortured Poets Department” was down just eight-percent to achieve 260,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. Swift’s total was almost triple the number racked up by this week’s second-place collection: rapper Gunna‘s “One of Wun” with 91,000 units. The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Atlanta rapper Gunna achieved one of hip-hop’s most remarkable comebacks last year. After being ensnared in the Ysl Rico case and spending seven months behind bars, he got out on a plea deal and released A Gift and a Curse last June, buoyed by the infectious single “Fukumean,” which became his first Number One hit. He placed himself back on the same trajectory he was on in 2022, when his album DS4Ever debuted at Number One on the Billboard albums chart and marked his superstar ascension.

I’ve spent the past month theorizing that the root of Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s dysfunction is how philosophically different they seem to be. Their actions speak loudly for two sects of hip-hop in antithetical opposition. While Drake’s three weeks of post-“Push Ups” digital mischief entertained his fanbase and, for some, upped the pressure on Kendrick, the West Coast rhymer’s fans put on an unbothered front, surmising that Drake was anxiously awaiting a potent clapback. True enough, Kendrick opened his diss track “Euphoria” by echoing his...

Gunna is nearly ready to unleash his forthcoming studio album One of Wun — but he won’t say when it’s coming. The rapper shared the title of the record on Monday and unveiled its accompanying cover art, created by the visual artist Calvin Clausell Jr. In the image, Gunna’s face is concealed beneath a mess of blue and white flower petals.
While the project doesn’t yet have an official release date, it will likely arrive just in time for Gunna to kick off The Bittersweet Tour with Flo Milli in May.

Following amapiano beats with your body is like watching a streetcorner shell game, or playing tennis with a rogue ball launcher — more surprising, sexy, and fun than standard 4/4 club bangers. South Africa’s signature groove for roughly a decade, the Soweto-bred slowed-down house music hybrid swiftly went pan-African because Afrobeat-niks, in Nigeria and elsewhere, know rhythm-magic when they hear it. With the long-awaited debut by 22-year old Johannesburg native Tyla Laura Seethal, the music is poised to globalize like never before. Bring it on.

In his first single since his chart-topping fourth studio album A Gift & a Curse, Gunna lays his latest hopes and fears bare. “Bittersweet” is pensive and stripped back, with the Atlanta Mc laying stream-of-consciousness raps down over sentimental guitar and subtle percussion from producers Dystinkt Beats and 1Srael, the latter of the the popular Philadelphia beat-smiths Working on Dying.
Gunna runs through concerns about women, former friends, and drug use throughout the song, but also notes some recent highlights, like the massive success of his last album, released after a year-long stint in jail,...

(Big Rube of Dungeon Family fame penned her introduction.) It’s a concept many others have used before, most famously by Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter on “December 4th” from 2003’s The Black Album.

Have you looked at the Billboard Hot 100 lately? If not, you’re in for a treat. The Christmas classics have flooded in and shaken everything up, making for one slightly surreal snow globe that features Doja Cat, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, and Gunna all rocking around the same tree. Speaking of which: Sixty-five years after its release, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is finally at Number One. In another 65 years, “Cruel Summer” will probably still be in the Top 10. If we’re lucky, Jason Aldean’s “Try...

An Atlanta judge has ruled that prosecutors in the upcoming Ysl Rico trial can use Young Thug’s lyrics as evidence against him.
Per Billboard, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville rejected the rapper’s request to ban the use of lyrics in the case on Thursday morning (November 9th) while granting a motion by prosecutors to preliminarily admit them into evidence. The ruling came after a contentious hours-long hearing held on Wednesday, in which the artist’s attorney Brian Steel made a free speech argument.
“They are targeting the right to free speech, and that’s wrong,” Steel said about the prosecutors. “They are saying that just because he is singing about it, he is now part of a crime.”
However, Judge Glanville vehemently disagreed. “They’re not prosecuting your clients because of the songs they wrote,” he said. “They’re using the songs to prove other things...
