In the "Rick and Morty" episode "Meeseeks and Destroy" -- a fan favorite, although maybe not one of the best -- Rick reveals a miraculous widget called the Meeseeks Box, a device that can manifest a helpful blue alien named Mr. Meeseeks. The eager extra-terrestrial serves as a temporary personal helper, tasked with aiding their summoner in a single, simple task. Once the task has been completed, Mr. Meeseeks breathes a sigh of relief and promptly ceases to exist. 

When given the Meeseeks Box, Summer (Spencer Grammer) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help her become more popular at school, and the alien delivers an inspiring speech. Beth (Sarah Chalke) asks that she be made a "more complete woman," and Mr. Meeseeks takes her on a date and says encouraging things. But Jerry (Chris Parnell) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help him improve his golf game, which sounds innocuous enough on the surface.

Rick and Morty hilariously mocks Hawkeye's role in the Avengers, highlighting his lack of usefulness in comparison to other superheroes. The comic points out that wielding a bow and arrow in a superhero battle is impractical and ineffective, further emphasizing Hawkeye's shortcomings. Rick and Morty's criticism highlights the larger point that a hero skilled in archery is ill-equipped to handle the weight of saving the world compared to super-powered individuals.

Rick and Morty has never been shy about criticizing the Avengers, the entire MCU, and even the wider superhero genre as a whole, yet one insult was more blatant than most others, as it specifically called out one MCU Avenger in the best way.

The original Avengers in the MCU were Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, and Thor. As outlined in their debut film, each Avenger brought their own flair to the team in a way that no one else could.

Noob-Noob, a beloved side character from Rick and Morty, died in a comic book event and will never be seen again on the TV show. The comic book event, titled "Crisis on C-137," takes place within the continuity of the animated series, making Noob-Noob's death permanent. While deaths can be retconned in a fictional universe like Rick and Morty, it doesn't seem likely that Noob-Noob will return for future episodes due to the tragic events of the comic.

Exclusive: Comic book and graphic novel publisher Idw has unveiled nine new original comic book projects set for release beginning in July as part of a new initiative. While the focus is on creating new comic book IP, following publishing of the comics, the Idw Entertainment Group will work to potentially develop the IP for film, television and other entertainment mediums the way the company has done in the past with such titles as Wynonna Earp and Locke & Key.

Reflecting genres including crime thriller, supernatural horror, science fiction and epic fantasy, the projects hail from New York Times bestselling authors, top industry artists and writers, as well as newcomers, including Scott Snyder, G. Willow Wilson and Stephen Graham Jones, among others. Additionally, Idw has additional projects underway for 2023 and beyond, including a comic book series by Academy Award–winning director, screenwriter, novelist, and showrunner John Ridley and several original graphic novels aimed at middle grade and YA audiences.

Beginning with Scott Snyder’s Dark Spaces: Wildfire in July (see details below), Idw will be publishing the projects monthly.

“A year ago we gave ourselves a mission: to make Idw the destination for premier talent and rising stars,” says Mark Doyle, editorial director of Originals. “This is an unprecedented moment in Idw’s history, and there’s been a tremendous team effort from our creative and editorial teams and everyone at the company to develop a stellar slate of original stories—and we’re having a blast doing it!”

Earthdivers, an ongoing series written by Stephen Graham Jones with art by Davide Gianfelice, unites four Indigenous survivors in an apocalyptic near future as they embark on a bloody, one-way mission to save the world by traveling back in time to kill Christopher Columbus and prevent the creation of America.

Dead Seas, a six-issue miniseries written by Cavan Scott with art by Nick Brokenshire, transforms a cynical convict into a reluctant hero when he’s trapped on a sinking prison ship swarming with ghosts. ViacomCBS announced the seven writers selected out of 1,000 applicants to participate in the Writers Mentoring Program for 2021-2022. Currently in its 18th year and helmed by the ViacomCBS Office of Global Inclusion, the program provides mentorships, access and opportunity for writers.

The eight-month mentoring program pairs writers with ViacomCBS executive mentors, who help them develop a new piece of material. Following the mentorship period, the writers participate in a 16-week workshop designed to teach them everything about the television business, as well as provide them access to agents, managers, executives, showrunners and producers.

On Halloween we celebrate creepy things. On Christmas we celebrate Christian beliefs, or family and togetherness. In between, on Black Friday, we celebrate capitalism – or at least, that seems to be the idea. It’s the world’s most painfully artificial party, but some people still go crazy over it. Those who really find it hard going, of course, are the unfortunate retail staff who have to cope with the rush.

At kid-focused superstore We Love Toys, that means downtrodden Chris (Ryan Lee), who, after four years, still has making Employee of the Week as his highest ambition; divorced dad Ken (Devon Sawa) who is struggling to find any real purpose in life; stubbornly professional Marnie (Ivana Baquero), who is involved with Ken but doesn’t take it as seriously as he does; stoic tough guy in waiting Archie (Michael Jai White) who makes a habit of being prepared for all eventualities; and.

Who says horror movies have to end on Halloween? There have been some recent funny and ingenious creepfests, that have satiated moviegoers horror cravings well past October 31st.

Screen Media Films has released the official trailer for a horror comedy titled Black Friday, set at a big toy store on Thanksgiving night just before the opening of Black Friday at midnight. And guess who's back at S-Mart! I mean, at "We Love Toys" - Bruce Campbell! Sporting a mighty fine gray mustache in this film (which makes him look like John Cleese in a few of the shots). Story manager Jonathan and his longtime employee Ken soon find them themselves battling against hordes of holiday shoppers that have been turned into monstrous creatures taken over by a parasite hellbent on a murderous rampage. The comedy stars Devon Sawa, Ivana Baquero, Ryan Lee, Stephen Peck, Michael Jai White, plus the one-and-only Bruce Campbell. This isn't the most original concept, but it does look quite fun anyway. The zombie people look mean, the kills look ridiculous and amusing.

Director Casey Tebo just made the holiday season terrifying (in a good way) for legions of horror fans. Screen Media has nabbed North American rights to Black Friday, an alien invasion holiday horror film starring Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead), Devon Sawa (Final Destination), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps), Michael Jai White (Arrow) and Stephen Peck, ahead of its Fantastic Fest world premiere, with plans for a day-and-date release in November.

Casey Tebo’s film, penned by Andy Greskoviak, takes place on the busiest shopping night of the year, watching as a group of disgruntled toy store employees are forced to defend themselves from legions of holiday shoppers, who have been turned into monstrous creatures by a mysterious alien parasite.

In that spirit, Screen Media has acquired “Black Friday,” an alien invasion holiday horror film ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest this week.

Directed by Casey Tebo (“Happy Birthday”) and written by Andy Greskoviak, “Black Friday” stars Bruce Campbell of “Evil Dead” fame, along with Devon Sawa (“Final Destination”), Ivana Baquero (“Pan’s Labyrinth”), Ryan Lee (“Goosebumps”) and Michael Jai White (“Spawn”). The film is produced by Warner Davis and executive produced by Greskoviak through his company Mfw Manufacturing. Screen Media is planning a day-and-date release in November.

In today’s TV news roundup, Epix revealed the premiere date and teaser trailer for the second season of “Godfather of Harlem,” and Netflix announced the premiere date of Jamie Foxx’s “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!”

Epix revealed that the second season of “Godfather of Harlem” will premiere on April 18. Set in 1964, the crime drama series explores the collision of the criminal underworld and civil rights movement. The second season will follow Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) battling the New York crime families for control of the French Connection, a pipeline for heroin that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor. In addition to Whitaker as star and executive producer, the season will bring back Vincent D’Onofrio, Ilfenesh Hadera, Nigél Thatch, Giancarlo Esposito, Lucy Fry, Rafi Gavron and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy. Cast members Erik Laray Harvey and Demi Singleton have been upped to series regulars. Watch a teaser below.

Jack Black has been absent from all of the marketing for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween until now. I lot of people wondered if he was even going to be in the movie. I’m not sure why, but they decided to feature his big return as R.L. Stein in the sequel in this new TV spot. With his new film A House With a Clock In Its Walls currently out in theaters, maybe the studio just felt now was the time to make the big reveal of his return.

You didn’t think Sony Pictures would sit back and let Michael Myers have all the fun now, did you?

With Universal’s Halloween reboot already scheduled for October, Sony has conjured up the spectacular first trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, the Ari Sandel-directed sequel that hopes to mine inspiration from genre heavyweights like It and Netflix phenom Stranger Things.

It’s much lighter in tone, of course – this is one of R.L. Stine’s stories after all – while Haunted Halloween ditches Jack Black’s rendition of the world-famous horror author for a more kid-centric story. And we certainly can’t forget about Slappy (also voiced by Black), who appears to have brought some friends for this year’s spooky spectacular. Long story short: he’s a living ventriloquist dummy from the “Night of the Living Dummy,” and is pictured front and center on the sequel’s official artwork.

Gravitas Ventures has picked up the U.S. rights to writer-director Kyle Wilamowski's All Summers End, a coming-of-age film that stars Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan and Kaitlyn Dever.

Gravitas plans a June 1 release for the budding-romance drama that plays out against the backdrop of a teenager dealing with his guilty conscience after a prank that led to the death of his girlfriend's older brother.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired all U.S. rights to Tye Sheridan’s coming-of -age film “All Summers End” for a June 1 release.

Written and directed by Kyle Wilamowski (“Snow Angels”), the film also stars Kaitlyn Dever, Pablo Schreiber, Austin Abrams, Annabeth Gish, Ryan Lee, Paula Malcomson and Bill Sage.

Sheridan, the lead in Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” portrays a teenage boy who falls in love while grappling with his guilty conscience over a prank that’s gone awry. The film, formerly titled “Grass Stains,” premiered last year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

“Powerful performances from leads Tye Sheridan and Kaitlyn Dever tell the story of first love and first loss that will resonate with all audiences,” Laura Florence, VP of sales and marketing for Gravitas, said. “It’s a very relatable tale of those emotional awakenings that can be razor sharp and unforgettable.”

We reported back in May that the sequel to the 2015 hit Goosebumps will be titled Goosebumps: Horrorland, but that isn't the case anymore. Another report has surfaced which claims the Goosebumps sequel is not entitled Goosebumps: Horrorland, but instead will be called Goosebumps: Slappy's Revenge. This report also claims that production is slated to begin in Atlanta in the first half of 2018. While Sony had been planning a fall 2018 release for this sequel, that seems highly unlikely, with a 2019 debut more plausible.

The original Goosebumps 2 2018 release date was set back in January, but it seems impossible to hit with filming starting next year. While no plot details have been released, when the Horrorland title was revealed, there was speculation that the massive park near where the main characters live could ultimately become this place known as "Horrorland," but that was never confirmed. Growing up one of my favorite series to read was Goosebumps by R. L. Stine. They had a great variety of stories that always entertained me, in which kids found themselves in scary situations. The original series which was published by Scholastic Publishing and had 62 books that were released from 1992-1997. In October of 1995 Protocol Entertainment with Scholastic Productions produced a television series that ran for three season on the Fox network. The series which was based on the original titles and was the number one rated children's TV show for three years in the Us. Fast forward some twenty years to October of 2015, Sony Pictures released the film Goosebumps starring Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush and Ryan Lee.
