June is just around the corner, and while we’ll see the usual licensed titles shuffling on and off the streamer, we’ll also see some Netflix Originals depart. Some pretty big English-language Originals are saying goodbye this month, so let’s dive into the full list.
Why do Netflix Originals leave Netflix? Well, in many cases, Netflix doesn’t own the underlying rights to movies and series and instead licenses them exclusively for a fixed period of time. It’s the equivalent of Amazon Prime Video’s Exclusive vs Original labeling, but Netflix doesn’t differentiate. These are different from most removals in that some of these titles will potentially become lost media unless the underlying owner can find new streaming homes or alternative distribution.
Over 250 Netflix Originals have departed Netflix over the years and we’re keeping track of the majority of them in our master list.

Neon and Longlegs director Osgood Perkins are keeping the good times rolling after striking a deal to remain collaborative partners. As summer rapidly approaches like a hungry shark locked on an unsuspecting seal, we’re preparing for a plethora of genre releases to hit our screens. One such release is in Sean Byrne’s newest film, Dangerous Animals, which brings together two of horror’s great loves: sharks and serial killers. In anticipation of the release, a new website for Tucker’s Experience has been launched where you can book a trip with Captain Tucker (played by Jai Courtney) himself!
Now, if you aren’t familiar with Dangerous Animals, in the new film, “When Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.“

Wanna find something fun to do while on vacation? Take an adventurous swim with sharks courtesy of Tucker’s Shark Experience! An “in-world” website has been released for the tourist attraction of Jai Courtney‘s character in Dangerous Animals. While the trailer is played fairly straight, Courtney looks to be chewing more scenery than the sharks, and the website is just as tongue-in-cheek, with the review section showcasing concerned customers.

Alan Ritchson is set to take a temporary break from the Reacher franchise to star in a new sci-fi action film, titled War Machine. Alongside Ritchson, the movie also stars Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, and Dennis Quaid, and the latter star says fans are in for a treat with Ritchson's next action flick. As well as bringing Lee Child's iconic military police/vigilante to life in Reacher, Ritchson has slowly been establishing himself as one of Hollywood's go-to action icons, starring in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Fast X, Titans, and more. But, War Machine is easily his most ambitious action project to date.

It is safe to say that Tom Hardy has had quite a career. Since making his feature film debut in Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down" in 2001, he has appeared in films that run the gamut of genre and scale: from smaller character-driven dramas like "Warrior" and "Locke" to some of the most ambitious blockbusters of the 2010s including "Inception" and "Mad Max: Fury Road." Hardy's resume showcases his talents as a performer who boasts leading man looks and sensibilities, but at his core is an eager character actor pursuing a wide variety of roles.
Like many of his contemporaries, Tom Hardy has brought his talents to superhero cinema. With his dynamite work as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" and the bonkers, off-the-wall zaniness he exhibited as the star of the "Venom" trilogy, Hardy is in that special group of actors who have appeared in films based on both DC and Marvel Comics.

Sharks and serial killers are probably pretty high up on many people's list of worst fears, and this new survival thriller from The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy director Sean Byrne and screenwriter Nick Lepard combines them for one seriously messed-up premise.
Dangerous Animals stars Aussie actor Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang in The Suicide Squad) as a deranged killer who takes tourists out on his fishing boat, before brutally murdering them and using the ocean's array of sharks to dispose of the bodies.
Oh yeah, he also just straight up ritually sacrifices people to the ravenous fish when the mood takes him.
“The shark isn’t the indiscriminate killer," Byrne tells Bloody Disgusting. "I think, in a way, as incredible as Jaws is, it kind of did a disservice to the shark. Ever since that film, everyone thinks that they’re just going to attack you, which isn’t true at all.

The first trailer has surfaced for Dangerous Animals, the latest feature from Australian horror director Sean Byrne, which sees Jai Courtney play a shark-obsessed serial killer hunting surfers off the coast. Blending creature-feature elements with survival horror, the film is set to premiere at Cannes 2025 as part of the Directors’ Fortnight line-up before hitting US cinemas on 12 June.
Set almost entirely at sea, Dangerous Animals follows rebellious surfer Zephyr, played by Hassie Harrison, who finds herself kidnapped by a man whose fascination with apex predators has tipped into homicidal ritualism. Held captive on his boat and surrounded by real circling sharks, Zephyr is forced to battle not only the ocean but the man who intends to feed her to it.

Serial killers and sharks are two cinematic staples that horror fans can’t seem to get enough of. But they’ve never been mashed together. Until now, that is. Director Sean Byrne’s new film, Dangerous Animals, features both. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for someone to pair the two. If one is good, both are almost certainly even better, right? And judging by the newly released trailer, this juxtaposition of menacing creatures may be one we’ll be talking about for a while. At the very least, Dangerous Animals is likely to serve up a grisly good time for anyone who fancies the idea of a shark-obsessed serial killer.

After a decade of making short films, Sean Byrne made his feature directorial debut with the captivating and disturbing 2009 horror film The Loved Ones. We had to wait several years for his second movie, but it was worth the wait: The Devil’s Candy, which had its festival premiere in 2015 but didn’t get a wide release until 2017, was another great horror film. Now, Byrne has finally made his third feature, a shark thriller called Dangerous Animals, and IFC Films is gearing up to give it a theatrical release on June 6th. With that date drawing near (and 2 months after we saw a teaser trailer), a full trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Australian horror director Sean Byrne questions who is really the prey or predator in his third feature, “Dangerous Animals.” A mix of the serial killer and “sharks-ploitation” tropes, the film centers on a murderer (Jai Courtney) who stalks a surfer on the open water…all with sharks circling his boat.
The official synopsis reads: “When Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below. She must outwit a predator more dangerous than the ocean itself — will she escape, or become the next offering to the deep?” Josh Heuston co-stars, while Nick Lepard wrote the script.

It’s that time of the year when studios release their big Summer blockbusters, hoping to rake in the dough. But with large tentpole releases struggling, there seems to be a shift in the kinds of films we’re getting. Sure, we’re still getting our usual slew of Superhero fare, but the horror genre has never looked better. Horror has been such a proven commodity that it feels like we have more summer horror releases than ever before. And I can’t blame studios as horror has been a consistent moneymaker, usually for pretty cheap. So let’s parse through all the releases, and see which are worth a trip to the theater for. And a recent trailer may have dropped one off this list. Proving that not all trailers help build anticipation: some kill it completely.

In a crowded sea of horror this summer season, Dangerous Animals stands apart. Not just for its originality but for the way it upends a summer genre staple: shark horror.
Dangerous Animals swims into theaters on June 6, 2025, and stars Hassie Harrison (“Yellowstone”), Josh Heuston (“Heartbreak High”), and Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad) as the unsettling killer featured in our exclusive image (above).
The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy director Sean Byrne and screenwriter Nick Lepard blend the shark movie with serial killer thriller to exhilarating results, with Byrne injecting his style of intense horror to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Nerve-fraying horror aside, it’s the type of bold reinvention that’s long overdue in this particularly crowded subgenre.

The cyberpunk world of ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ still has stories to tell. Director Robert Rodriguez recently shared his excitement about returning to Iron City for a sequel. He believes Alita’s journey is far from finished, and I can’t help but agree. The 2019 film left us with a cliffhanger, and the idea of diving back into that gritty, futuristic universe feels thrilling.
Rosa Salazar brought Alita to life as a cyborg with no memory, pieced together by Dr. Ido, played by Christoph Waltz. The story, based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga ‘Gunnm,’ follows Alita navigating the dangerous streets of Iron City. She discovers her past as a skilled warrior while battling foes and mastering Motorball, a brutal cyborg sport. The movie earned over $405 million worldwide, making it Rodriguez’s biggest box office hit, despite a mixed critical response.
Rodriguez has been vocal about wanting to continue Alita’s story.

Although the Australian native Jai Courtney has certainly had his turn as the protagonist, it’s his dastardly work in projects like The Suicide Squad and Buffaloed — where he can use his million-dollar smarmy grin — that seems to lock in audiences the most. But, in his latest role, that smug charisma has been all but replaced by an unsettling gut feeling that tells you to run the other way. Today, Collider is thrilled to unveil an exclusive image of Courtney’s newest monstrous personality as a maniacal serial killer with an obsession for sharks in Dangerous Animals.
Bulky, bleeding, and brutal are just a few words we’d use to describe Courtney’s appearance in the photo that sees him standing on top of a ship’s deck, looking down into the water through beady little shark-like eyes. One hand is bleeding and wrapped, while the other holds a video camera,...

Directors’ Fortnight, the independent selection running alongside the Cannes Film Festival, has unveiled an eclectic lineup for its 57th edition, which will showcase Christian Petzold’s “Miroirs No.3,” Eva Victor’s “Sorry, Baby,” Robin Campillo’s “Enzo” and Lloyd Lee Choi’s “Lucky Lu.”
Curated by Julien Rejl, Directors’ Fortnight will open with “Enzo,” a film directed by Robin Campillo (“Bpm Beats Per Minute).” Campillo stepped in at the helm after Laurent Cantet, his longtime friend and collaborator, died in April. Cantet and Campillo had previously collaborated on the script of the Palme d’Or-winning “The Class.”
Produced by Marie-Ange Luciani (“Anatomy of a Fall”) at Les Films de Pierre, “Enzo” is set in Marseille and follows the journey of a young apprentice mason, Enzo, who befriends a Ukrainian colleague who gives him a glimpse of a new horizon. The film stars newcomers Eloy Pohu and Maksym Slivinskyi, alongside Élodie Bouchez and Pierfrancesco Favino.

One of our most anticipated horror releases this summer is Dangerous Animals from Australian filmmaker Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones, The Devil’s Candy). The film’s new MPA rating has us even more excited for the aquatic carnage ahead.
Dangerous Animals swims into theaters on June 6, 2025, and has been rated “R” for “strong bloody violent content/grisly images, sexuality, language and brief drug use.”
In the upcoming serial killer/shark thriller, “Trapped on a killer’s boat with hungry sharks circling below, a surfer must outwit a predator more dangerous than the ocean itself—will she escape, or become the next offering to the deep? Sean Byrne returns with his third visceral feature.”
That the premise centers on a vicious serial killer who feeds his victims to sharks does suggest a gnarly horror movie ahead. It also sounds like the sharks will be downright friendly compared to the human threat.

With that date drawing near, a teaser trailer has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
After the theatrical run, Dangerous Animals will be making its way over to the Shudder streaming service.
Byrne wrote both The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy, but for Dangerous Animals he was working from a script by Nick Lepard.

On his way to becoming Hollywood's next action star, Alan Ritchson has signed a deal to star in an upcoming Netflix movie called War Machine. Not much is known about the film, except that it stars Ritchson alongside a notable group of action icons. However, the actor who shot to fame by starring in Amazon Prime Video's action series Reacher has come out to say that War Machine will be Netflix's "biggest movie ever." Talk about confidence.
Ritchson was featured in Wired's web series "Autocomplete Interview," where he answered the internet's most-searched questions about him. Alan Ritchson is making a bold prediction: War Machine is going to be Netflix’s biggest movie ever. Now, if he's in it, there's probably a chance that is literally true, but let's read on. The Reacher star is leading the upcoming sci-fi thriller, and if his hype is anything to go by, the film is shaping up to be a major event for the streaming giant. Directed by Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), the movie takes audiences for the ride alongside a group of elite recruits at a special operations boot camp who find themselves in the fight of their lives against aliens who know how to fight. Great, just what we all need. The cast includes Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney, and Esai Morales, and it honestly sounds like the kind of fun B-movie schlock that gets overlooked these days.

Netflix' Best Western Created One of 2025's Most Tragic Love Stories (& It's Not the One Fans Think)

Quick LinksWho Was American Primeval's Jacob Pratt? What Happened to Jacob and Abish?
The following contains spoilers for American Primeval, now streaming on Netlflix. It also contains a mention of suicide.
With Westerns like Yellowstone reigniting the genre for TV, Netflix decided to take things in a raw and unadulterated direction. The streamer achieves this with the shockingly gory American Primeval, which focuses on the 1850s and the Utah War.
The series depicts American soldiers, the Mormons and Natives battling for territory. Along the way, the show maps out one of the most tragic love stories of its genre. But it's not the one fans think is on top of the list. It's a darker story, focusing on Dane DeHaan's Jacob Pratt and his wife, Abish.

Thunderbolts*, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's answer to the Suicide Squad, comes out on May 2. Director Jake Schreier will surely want to distance himself from those kinds of comparisons, but it’s hard not to see the similarities between the two stories. Thunderbolts* stars a rag-tag team of misunderstood antiheroes working for a shadowy organization ruled over by a badass woman. If Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) getting an expendable group of souped-up villains to do her bidding sounds similar to Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) pulling the strings in 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2021’s The Suicide Squad, that’s because it is.
Still, Schreier’s take on Thunderbolts* revamps the typical Thunderbolts lineup from Marvel Comics and gives it an MCU twist. There’s no sign of Daniel Brühl’s Helmut Zemo, nor the original comic book roster of Goliath, Beetle, Fixer, Moonstone, and Screaming Mimi. Instead, the live-action Thunderbolts...

Liam Neeson’s legendary skills are once again being put to the test, and he is coming out fighting as the 2020 movie Honest Thief returns to the Freevee chart yet again. Everyone knows that Neeson is very capable with a gun and fist, and if you are looking for violence, high drama, and a twisting, turning – if often predictable – storyline about kidnap, revenge, or retribution, then there are very few who can compare.
Honest Thief is one such movie that is scratching that itch. Released five years ago, it finds Neeson playing a professional bank robber, Tom Carter, who is planning on going straight and confessing to his crimes. Things don’t go to plan, though, when corrupt FBI officers try to steal the cash he planned on returning.

Berlin’s European Film Market wraps up Wednesday with a handful of deals and a touch of optimism over the future of the international industry.
The biggest title of the market, the Lena Dunham-directed rom-com Good Sex, set to star Natalie Portman, kicked off a studio bidding war, with Amazon, Warner Bros., Netflix and Apple all vying for the project, which sees Portman play a 40-year-old relationship therapist who finds herself back on the market after the exit of her long-term partner. Worldwide offers are reportedly in the $45 million-plus range, but there’s no news yet of a final deal.
Most of the deals reported were smaller domestic pickups of international art house features, with Sony Pictures Classics taking North American and Latin American rights to Rebecca Zlotowski’s French-language murder mystery Vie Privée, starring Jodie Foster as a psychiatrist investigating a patient’s death.
