HBO is bringing back its most beloved, ultra-rich adult children fighting for their family business. I’m talking, of course, about the Gemstones.

John Goodman also stars as the Gemstone family patriarch, alongside series regulars Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, Tony Cavalero and Walton Goggins. “The Wrong Missy” is a rom-com, but it’s really a ’90s Jim Carrey movie merged with one of those slob-goes-on-a-corporate-retreat comedies that has starred everyone from Bill Murray to Adam Sandler to Will Ferrell. Here’s what’s new about it: The hypomanic Jim Carrey figure is a woman — Missy, played by the wild-card comedian Lauren Lapkus, who in this movie is like a grenade of happy insanity tossed into the middle of every scene. Lapkus, who looks like a hellion version of Illeana Douglas, is best known for playing Susan Fischer on “Orange Is the New Black” and for one arc on “The Big Bang Theory” (she was also quite good in Zach Galifianakis’s “Between the Ferns”), and in “The Wrong Missy” she’s an antically wired, rubber-faced, this-is-your-brain-on-media satirist-anarchist.

Tyler Spindel’s “The Wrong Missy” isn’t without a few charms, as it builds its meandering story around an ever-growing coterie of misunderstandings and the inevitable tragedy they inspire (comedy!). But . A gross-out comedy masquerading only in the flimsiest sense as a romance, “The Wrong Missy” still knows its way around genre convention, but Spindel and company seem compelled to use those expectations to tee up cruel gags that do little to advance the film’s plot or central romance.
It’s a mix-up from the start — “a blind date blunder!” one character laughs — when well-meaning Tim (David Spade) mistakenly believes he’s saving his blind date from a ‘roid-chomping muscleman who can’t take a hint. Tim is a nice enough guy (it’s a saving grace for Spade and the film that the character’s not secretly skeevy), and when he gets a text from his date...

HBO wasted little time giving Danny McBride comedy The Righteous Gemstones a second season renewal.
The Righteous Gemstones Season 2 is officially happening at HBO!
The evangelically-centric satire series didn’t have to pray too long for a second season, since HBO granted the ensemble comedy a quick renewal, arriving the day after its still-running debut season aired Episode 4 this past Sunday night, set to cross the midway point of its 9-episode frame.

Three weeks following its freshman-season launch, HBO has renewed its comedy series The Righteous Gemstones for Season 2.
“Danny [McBride], Jody [Hill] and David [Gordon Green] are among our favorite collaborators and we’re thrilled that their take on a family comedy has been met with such enthusiasm,” says Amy Gravitt, Evp of HBO Programming. “We cannot wait to share the next steps in the Gemstone family’s epic journey. Hallelujah!”
The Righteous Gemstones, starring McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine, launched its nine-episode season August 18. Created by McBride, it tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work.
McBride executive produces, directs and writes the series. McBride collaborators Hill and Green also serve as executive producers and directors.
Well into the second generation of a grand televangelist tradition, the renowned Gemstone family is living proof that worship pays dividends in all sizes, including their megachurch.

Compared to The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over is a Criterion-bound masterpiece. Then again, compare anything to The Ridiculous 6 and I’m sure you’d mistake it for the second coming of Kubrick, so let’s be honest about The Do-Over – it’s not Adam Sandler’s worst, but that bar couldn’t sink any lower. Netflix has given the once-legendary comedian carte blanche, as Sandler tries desperately to win back his fanbase’s waning support – a gamble CEO Reed Hastings has to be questioning by now. The Do-Over is more survivable than expected, but Sandler just seems to be begging for help at this point, hoping social justice and David Spade can save him from yet another critically-ignored misfire.
In this identity-swapping “thriller,” Max (Adam Sandler) and Charlie (David Spade) decide to trade their shitty lives with two dead corpses who won’t be missed. Of course, Max doesn...

Negative reviews have a weird effect on some people. If you haven't yet watched The Do-Over, the latest Netflix Original movie headlined by Adam Sandler and David Spade, you might read a review like this one and go “It can't possibly be that bad, right? Right?” We're starting this review fully aware that some of you may go on to attempt to enjoy this ironically, but we're warning you from the top, without hyperbole: this is the worst movie Adam Sandler has ever made.
It's the second in Sandler's four-picture deal with Netflix, which was viewed as a coup for the streaming service when it first moved into producing its own content, but thus far, they probably haven't been as expected. After last year's Western spoof The Ridiculous 6,...

Following The Ridiculous Six, Adam Sandler has nearly finished his second Netflix movie, The Do-Over. Here's the trailer.
Chortles are incoming, chums. Adam Sandler, as you may know, inked a deal for four films to be released as Netflix exclusives. The first, The Ridiculous Six, landed last year. And now, he’s already churned out another, in the shape of The Do-Over.
This one co-stars David Spade and Paula Patton, and it tells the story of a bank manager, who fakes his own death and heads off on an adventure.
Steve Brill (Little Nicky, Mr Deeds) directs this one, and Sandler doesn’t appear to have written this one himself. Instead, Kevin Barnett and Chris Pappas have penned the script.
Netflix has now confirmed a May 27th release for The Do-Over, and has also released a brief teaser trailer for the movie. Rub your hands with glee,...

I wondered how long it would take for it to be revealed that Aidan had broken hospital rules by secretly performing Andrew’s blood tests. This was this past week it finally happened. And, while it’s an interesting story, I’m not happy about how it played out.
First of all, since Georgia clearly had no intention of not turning Aidan in, or at least gave it very little thought before she did. She could have at least warned Aidan that the hammer was about to fall so he wasn’t blindsided. I suppose she did the right thing because he did violate hospital policy, but as far as I’m concerned, Georgia can save the half-hearted apologies. She’s not stupid and she had to know what would happen as a result of her blabbing. Just own up to what you did and shut up.

She’s not stupid and she had to know what would happen as a result of her blabbing. Just own up to what you did and shut up.

Neighbours airs one of its biggest episodes of the year on UK screens later this month as the teens are at the centre of a terrifying car crash. The drama plays out on Andrew Robinson's (Jordan Smith) birthday, when he is on the way to a concert with Chris Pappas, Tash Williams, Summer Hoyland and Ed Lee. At first it seems that there is a great night ahead for the gang, but the evening's first surprise comes when they discover that Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) has snuck into the boot of Chris's car. Sophie has decided to play stowaway after Paul banned her from attending the gig, and when her hiding place is uncovered, Andrew bullies Chris (James Mason) into overloading the car so they don't have to turn around and take her home. I’m sorry, but Deek needs to give it a rest where Will is concerned. If he wants to be Robbie’s friend, then he needs to be his friend which doesn’t mean trashing Will every chance he gets. And attacking Will for not getting involved with the business is unfair simply because from what I understood, Will was just giving Robbie the money to buy the salon, he had no intention of actually being involved in running the place.
Yes, Will was preoccupied with his investigation, but his telling Robbie to go to Deek, who has business experience, seems the proper thing to do to me. More and more, Deek comes off as petty and jealous. No, Will isn’t perfect, but he’s not the monster Deek makes him out to be —at least not yet. But then the writing...
