Released in 2010, Kick-Ass was a superhero black comedy film that starred Johnson as an ordinary teenager named Dave who becomes a real-life superhero called "Kick-Ass." Dave soon gets caught up in a larger battle when he comes across the former cop Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) who is trying to take down crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong). Appealing to a wide range of audiences and connecting with them is not something to be embarrassed about. Mr. Peabody & Sherman is an animated sci-fi comedy film directed by Rob Minkoff from a screenplay by Craig Wright. Based on the characters from Peabody’s Improbable History by Jay Ward, the 2014 film follows Sherman, a young boy who misuses his scientist father Mr. Peabody’s time machine, and causes the world to go haywire.

The 2007 teen comedy Superbad has an outstanding ensemble cast full of big-name stars. Most of Superbad's best quotes are from its three main characters, Seth, Evan, and Fogell aka McLovin, who are played by Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, respectively. Directed by Greg Mottola, Superbad is written by comedic partners Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, the latter of whom plays Officer Michaels in the film. The protagonists, Seth and Evan, are loosely based on Rogen and Goldberg and their real-life experiences growing up as seniors in high school in Vancouver, Canada.

Superbad was the 21st highest-grossing movie in 2007 with a domestic total of $121.46 million. It was a breakout movie for both Hill and Cera and is widely considered a landmark film in the modern comedy genre. It was the feature film writing debut of both Rogen and Goldberg, who went on to pen other classic comedy films...

Superbad 2 never happened because the film's writers, director, and cast weren't on board. The raucous teen sex comedy about best friends trying to lose their virginity was directed by Greg Mottola and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Superbad stars Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone, Bill Hader, and Rogen. The film featured two close high school friends and a senior party that gave them one last chance to spend time together before leaving for college.

Goldberg and Rogen began crafting the script while in their teens, and it is based on real-life events that happened to Rogen and Goldberg during their senior year at their Vancouver high school in the 90s. Superbad was both a commercial and critical success, grossing over $170 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). There was also almost a Superbad 2, because producer Judd Apatow said he had an idea for the story, but...

Chloë Grace Moretz already had a lot of acting credits to her name before starring in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, but that role put her on the map...and generated a lot of controversy.

Given her young age at the time, the fact she was dropping F-bombs (and the odd C-word) shocked many, as did the sheer level of violence some of the 11-year-old's scenes included. Since then, Moretz has gone on to star in the likes of Let Me In, Hugo, Carrie, Tom & Jerry, and Kick-Ass 2, of course.

Now, the actor is making headlines after coming out as a "gay woman" on Instagram. Moretz revealed her sexual orientation in a post regarding her decision in the 2024 United States Presidential Election.

Moretz has been romantically linked to model Kate Harrison since 2018 but has never publicly commented on her sexuality. This cause was clearly one important enough to the actor to change that.

H​onorable Mention: The Monster Squad (1987)

W​hile this film was a mainstay of my childhood, if you look at it today, some of the language hasn’t aged very well. I still love this film, as I can look past its flaws and remember the absolute glee I would get watching it over and over again.

Much of the recent criticism of Hollywood comes from the seemingly endless stream of reboots and remakes. The world of cinema is making a vain attempt to exploit a played-out property, like making an eighth Children of the Corn sequel or rebooting the original twice, which sadly actually happened.

The movie business is generally geared toward making money, which is why studios favor proven properties over fresh ideas, but recycling established films and franchises doesn't always make sound financial sense. Cranking out more MCU films is a no-brainer, but there are tons of confirmed upcoming sequels and reboots that nobody asked for.

Being an actor is extremely hard. Many times, an aspiring actor will go to an audition and come away disappointed. There was a massive role that they completely failed to get. But sometimes, losing that role works out, because then they're offered another one from the same production.

In an alternate universe, maybe they got the role they were going for, but the movie might have worked out for the worse. It's better that they got the opportunity to learn and grow as actors. Also, some of these movies went on to become downright iconic.

Blink Twice, Zo Kravitz's directorial debut, has viewers searching high and low for movies that share some of the psychological thriller's DNA. Co-written by Kravitz and E.T.
