You may have seen that recently here on Nerdly we’ve been reviewing a few more “underground” horror titles thanks to distributors Tetrovideo, films such as Vore Gore, Nightmare Symphony and Thanatomorphose. Now whilst we haven’t covered many underground/extreme horror on the site in the past – though we have reviewed films like Lung, American Guinea Pig: Bucket of Guts and Gore, Mecanix and Your Flesh Your Curse – that doesn’t mean we don’t watch a Lot of them. So with that in mind here’s a rundown of our Top 5 Extreme Films… in no particular order and with a caveat that, should you choose to watch these for yourself, you have a strong stomach and a penchant for debauchery and gore!

Anthology film The Profane Exhibit has been in the works for some time now, but things are moving along with casting news for the wrap-around along with more detailed descriptions of the various segments and quotes from a few directors. It's a lot of good stuff so prepare to be here awhile.
From the Press Release:
The producers of “The Profane Exhibit” are excited to announce that both Tony Todd (pictured) and Bai Ling have join the long-awaited horror anthology. They will be featured in the cast of "22 Rue des Martyrs," written by Ray Garton, which serves as the film's wrap-around segment.
David Bond and Manda Manuel are the architects of what is likely the most daring independent horror film project to date, both in concept and scope. Assembling an almost surreal collection of over 100 horror icons (directors, writers, actors, musicians, etc.), Bond's vision is to present the audience with...

Dread Central has gotten wind of a secretive project being developed entitled The Profane Exhibit, a new anthology film dealing with the nature of corruption that looks to be a no-holds barred shocker. Although just a few slivers of information have been leaked about this ten-part compilation, what we've seen thus far indicates some serious pushing of the boundaries of good taste, and we've got high hopes for it.
Three of the film's ten directors have been announced, and it seems to be a true rogues' gallery running the show at The Profane Exhibit. Try these names on for size:
Directing a segment entitled Manna, straight from one of the most visually disturbing horror films ever created, August Underground's Mordum, is Michael Todd Schneider. That name alone should be enough to curl the toes of even the most hardened viewer. But that's just the beginning.

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Luckily for me Iceland appears to have appeased the fire gods. While fans of Broken and The Devil's Chair director Adam Mason have been awaiting the arrival of his dark comedy Luster - a film that has finally completed a lengthy post production only recently - the director himself has been cooking up a little something on the sly.
Together with frequent collaborator Andrew Howard, Mason has completed an entirely different film during the waiting period for Luster. Shot on the cheap and on the sly, with any word kept carefully out of the press until the film was complete Pig is a grueling exercise in single take horror, a savage satire on American gender roles built around a lunatic central performance from Andrew Howard. With the run time dominated by a single 70+ minute take this is something entirely new from Mason, a technical experiment that builds on the themes and approach of his earlier work.
But where to see it?...
