The new Cross TV series doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but the thriller has already been renewed for a second season by Prime Video, according to Variety. The series, based on the Alex Cross novels by James Patterson, has been in development since 2020.
Starring Aldis Hodge, Isaiah Mustafa, Ryan Eggold, Karen LeBlanc, Melody Hurd, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Jennifer Wigmore, and Samantha Walkes, the series follows Alex Cross (Hodge), a brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions detective and forensic psychologist. A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it.

Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

Plot: A deaf and mute warrior (Bill Skarsgård) raised by a mysterious shaman (The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian) attempts to topple a repressive regime.
Review: Last year, Bill Skarsgård played a suave villain in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 4, but notably stayed out of the action scenes. Had the movie been released after Boy Kills World, I think the part would have been radically reimagined, with the actor putting himself through the kind of physical transformation that changes careers. Watching the hulking, 6’3 actor blast his way through opponents in Boy Kills World, it’s hard to believe that the same guy, just a few years ago, was best known as Pennywise the Clown. Indeed, Boy Kills World is the perfect launchpad for Bill Skarsgård to become a major action hero (it bodes well for his next film – the remake of The Crow).

Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.
And it is a nasty dystopian world for the preteen boy (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who is being trained in the jungle by the surly, “slave-driving” Shaman (Yayan Ruhian). And...

Producer Sam Raimi unleashed some gnarly cheese grater horror in last year’s Evil Dead Rise, and his next film as producer is armed with the very same skin-obliterating weapon.
I’m of course talking about Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgård as a deaf-mute action hero. The film from producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality,” and Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are bringing it to theaters on April 26. How about a gory Red Band clip while you wait?!
Boy Kills World is rated “R” for “Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.” Preview some of the gory violence below…
Moritz Mohr directed Boy Kills World, which was written by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie).

Famke Janssen is not sure what Marvel has planned for the X-Men saga but doesn’t shut the door on the idea of reprising her role of Jean Grey / Phoenix.
Janssen originated the X-Men role in the 2000 film and would go on to play the mutant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress also made cameos in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey,” Janssen told ComicBook in an interview. “I came back as the Phoenix [The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past.”
Janssen noted that reprising the role following the initial films “were all surprises that I never anticipated” and didn’t put past appearing in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine,...

Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is what happens when you toss The Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, Happy!, and Crank into a blender. While that sounds rad, the slurry of upbeat action and nonsense plot tangles is much more baffling in execution. Mohr’s vision borrows heavily from button-mashy videogames and dystopian graphic novels, blending Cyberpunk futurism with real-world dictatorship commentaries. There’s a message about fascism and rebellion somewhere in Mohr’s madcap martial arts violence, but it’s lost under the piles of enemy corpses. Boy Kills World never knows the movie it wants to be past a killing spree, as the story makes one poor choice after the next, like a genre satire that becomes what it tries to parody.

As if taking his older brother Alexander’s hulking, muscular presence in Robert Eggers’s The Northman as a personal challenge, Bill Skarsgård cuts an imposing figure in Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Every bit as jacked up as a professional wrestler, Skarsgård looks the part of a man hell-bent on revenge against Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen), the dictator who hosts an annual televised event in the film’s post-apocalyptic landscape known as The Culling, which claimed the lives of our hero’s family when he was a child.
Given his brawniness and the relentlessly brutal means with which he trains for his vendetta in the forest with the help of an Asian shaman (Yayan Ruhian), it’s more than a little dissonant that our deaf-mute protagonist, Boy, has his inner thoughts expressed in voiceover by H. Signature Entertainment have nabbed the UK rights for Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World, which is in UK cinemas in April. More on the film below.
Bill Skarsgård has seemingly dedicated 2024 to roles that push him to be increasingly nutty with each passing film. The Pennywise actor is set to appear in both Boy Kills World, Nosferatu and The Crow this year, all of which look positively deranged.

Bill Skarsgård has seemingly dedicated 2024 to roles that push him to be increasingly nutty with each passing film. The Pennywise actor is set to appear in both Boy Kills World, Nosferatu and The Crow this year, all of which look positively deranged.

Bill Skarsgard stars as a deaf-mute fighting machine out for revenge in Roadside Attractions’ crazy trailer for Boy Kills World. The trailer’s loaded with action but also conveys the film’s twisted humor, captured in a clip showing a Hunger Games-ish battle to the death via breakfast cereal mascots.
In addition to Bill Skarsgard, the action comedy stars Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley, and Famke Janssen. Bob’s Burgers‘ H. Jon Benjamin provides the inner voice of Skarsgard’s character.
“Skarsgård stars as ‘Boy’ who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless,” reads Roadside’s synopsis. “Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman...

Coming across as a deranged mash-up of John Wick, Silent Night, The Hunger Games and… Bob's Burgers? (more on that in a moment), we were already anticipating German director Moritz Mohr's bloody and bizarre Boy Meets World. The trailer for the film just increases that feeling…
The titular "Boy" here is played by Bill Skarsgård, who as a youngster was left orphaned, deaf and mute in a post-apocalyptic world by a cruel ruling family who quell resistance to their rule by culling dissidents annually.
Trained by a mysterious shaman Yayan Ruhian in martial arts and weapons use, he becomes an instrument of vengeance, employing his skills to take down those who wronged him, teaming up with a resistance group at the same time. Oh, and did we mention he also sometimes bickers with the ghost of his rebellious younger sister?
His inner voice, meanwhile, comes courtesy of Bob's star H.

Bill Skarsgård has quickly become an actor whose very presence in a film suggests something twisted is about to go down -- that's what happens when you play a child-eating clown monster in two of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time. But where "Barbarian" cleverly used that foreknowledge to subvert audience expectations and "John Wick: Chapter 4" embraced it by casting the "It" star as the slimeball Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, Moritz Mohr splits the difference in his feature directing debut, "Boy Kills World." Instead of casting Skarsgård as a blood-thirsty killer, the film casts him as a righteous killer in the vein of John Wick himself. And you know what? It might just work!
While it didn't exactly blow critics away last year during its premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, "Boy Kills World" still managed to garner praise for its distinct blend of bloody slapstick action and irreverent comedy.

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions announced today that they have acquired Boy Kills World, the action thriller starring Bill Skarsgård which blew away audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. We’ll soon have the chance to check out Boy Kills World for ourselves as the film will be given a wide release in theaters on April 26th.
Bill Skarsgård stars as Boy, a “deaf-mute with a vivid imagination, driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, avows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy, the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deafened, and voiceless. Boy trains with a mysterious shaman to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents. Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting.

The existence and success of 2018’s Venom movie is rather fascinating because of how far the movie goes out of its way to keep its distance from Spider-Man. At no point is the wallcrawler brought up and they don’t even hint at the idea of a crossover until the post-credits of the sequel. Elsewhere, Venom is constantly attached to Spider-Man, whether it’s in terms of origin, identity, or simply as a Marvel Comics property. Venom’s main hosts have included a disgraced reporter who hated Spider-Man, a B-list Spider-Man villain with a new coat of paint, and a former school bully who idolized Spider-Man and was unknowingly one of his best friends.
Similarly, Venom has never been able to stand on his own in video games. At most, he gets top billing in a Spider-Man team-up game. Even now, we’re bringing up Venom because he is a...

The 2023 Toronto International Film Festival is underway. While this is one of the festivals where a lot of awards season contenders start getting buzz as we head into the fall and winter months, it's also a place where hidden horror gems can sneak up on you as we head into Halloween. Like many film festivals, TIFF has its own genre programming block called Midnight Madness where horror, thrillers, and the wilder side of filmmaking can be experienced. This year, a handful of titles have been getting some decent buzz, ranging from "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard making his directorial debut with the slasher comedy "Hell of a Summer" to "Dream Scenario" putting Nicolas Cage into everyone's dreams and plenty in between.
Let's take a closer look at some of the horror titles drumming up noise at TIFF 2023.

In a cinematic landscape built on tried-and-true formulas, Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World dares to be different, blurring the boundaries between absurdity and adrenaline-pumping action. Written by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers, this audacious venture is steeped in a dystopian backdrop plays by its own rules. Dive into a world where chaos meets comedy, and gory kills are an everyday thing. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, Yayan Ruhian, Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji, Brett Gelman, Jessica Rothe, and Isaiah Mustafa.

Lt. Massey is Alex’s immediate superior at the Metro Pd. She is a tireless self-promoter who understands that advancement doesn’t always have anything to do with catching the bad guys, but with pleasing those higher up. In the series, she is pregnant.
From Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, Cross is described as a complex and twisted thriller created by producer and writer Ben Watkins and based on the best-selling Alex Cross book series by James Patterson.
