Daughter of Jane Campion, an Oscar-winning screenwriter and Oscar-nominated director, and film-maker Colin Englert.

She left high school to become an actress.

She attended schools in New York City, London, New Zealand, Rome and Australia, one of them being Sibford School, a boarding school in Oxfordshire, England. Her parents divorced when she was seven and she made her film debut at the age of eight in Listen, followed, at 12, by her mother's short film "The Water Diary".

Her mother Jane Campion was pregnant with her at the time of winning the Oscar for Best Writing (Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen) for The Piano (1993) at the Academy Awards on 21 March 1994. Alice was born three months after the ceremony.

Sister of Jasper and Gabriel Englert. Granddaughter of Edith and Richard Campion. Her uncle is Michael Campion.
