New Release: Frozen Kiss DVD
Entertainment One will release the chilly (and hopefully chilling) 2009 thriller Frozen Kiss on DVD on July 12 for a list price of $24.98.

Cameron Goodman feels the chill in Frozen Kiss.

Jamie Martz (Jarhead) and Cameron Goodman (Shuttle) star as Ryan and Shelley, young lovers returning home from a party one wintry night. Engulfed by a raging blizzard, they become stranded when their car breaks down on an unfamiliar road. With the authorities unable to locate them, the pair must fight for survival against both the icy elements and the mysterious figures who appear to be trailing them.

Directed by Harry Bromley Davenport and co-starring Mimi Rogers (Abandoned) and David Starzyk (TV’s Hot in Cleveland), Frozen Kiss is premiering in the U.S. on DVD and is reportedly “based on true events that made national headlines.”

This one looks like it could play as a companion feature to Adam Green’s ski lift chiller Frozen.

Blu-Ray Round-Up: ‘American Beauty,’ ‘Boogie Woogie,’ ‘Bored to Death,’ More
Chicago – The Blu-Ray Round-Up has looked around the office after the dust has settled on the major September HD releases and realized that there are a few remaining titles worthy of a mention. Before frost warnings, Halloween decorations, and planning for Thanksgiving, pick up one of these five titles. You won’t regret it.

Note: The Round-Up is designed merely to present synopsis, cast & crew, tech specs, and special features information on titles that may otherwise fall through the cracks for your purchasing perusal. Having said that, “American Beauty” is a must-own in HD just for the gorgeous cinematography of Oscar-winner Conrad L. Hall and the film has held up much-better than the cynical haters would have you believe. It’s a great movie. And “Bored to Death” continues to be one of the more intriguing shows on cable. If we had to pick favorites it would be those two.

New Purple-Tinted Images From SyFy’s The Phantom Mini-Series
Like the SyFy Channel’s latest attempt to resurrect Philip Jose Farmer’s “Riverworld” novels into a new ongoing series (see what I did there?), I get the feeling their attempts at bringing back The Ghost Who Walks will be just as unsuccessful. Thus, we have a 4-hour mini-series that will act as a backdoor pilot, premiering later this month on June 20 at 7 p.m. Et/Pt on the SyFy Channel. In case you were still not sold on the new Phantom yet, or you wanted to be sure it was something you had no interest in, here are a new gallery of pics from SciFiWire. Here’s the trailer from last year for those who missed it: Ryan Carnes stars as Kit Walker, aka the new Phantom. Trailer for SyFy’s ‘The Phantom’
A week after the release of SyFy’s Riverworld trailer, we get to take a look at another SyFy original miniseries event; an adaptation of the Lee Falk comic, The Phantom.

The film, based on the comic, tells the story of Kit Walker, the 21st Phantom, played by Ryan Carnes (General Hospital, Desperate Housewives), with Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, Alias) as the villain, Lithia. Cameron Goodman (Wild ‘N Out) will star as Walker’s love interest, Renny and Sandrine Holt (The L World) as the Phantom’s trusted friend and advisor, Guran.

Fans of the series hoping to get a glimpse of Phantom villian, Rama Singh, will be out of luck as they’ve “reimagined” the Singh Brotherhood leader as Rhatib Singh. No information has been released on whether Rhatib is representing the character Rama for the film or if he’s a relative.

Producers, Rhi Entertainment, have provided the...

First Trailer for ‘The Phantom’ TV Series Goes Online
Before all you Billy Zane fans out there start drooling, know that this isn’t your mom and pop’s Phantom. This Phantom has cool guns, and sunglasses, and a hoodie! The premise follows Chris Moore (Ryan Carnes), who learns that he’s a part of a long line of jungle crime fighters who have sworn to protect the world from evil.

The show has a bit of a Smallville feel to it, with a few light nods to the original costume, but establishing itself as a newer, “hipper” entity. There are a few modern elements thrown in, such as secret agencies and terrorist factions. Also, you can expect to see lots of purple in the show, which is great if you are hoping the color will make a comeback in the fashion world.

Star Carnes is no stranger to the world of Sci-Fi TV, as he starred in two...

Purple Crime Fighting Time! Trailer for the SyFy Channel’s new Phantom
Really, he’s wearing purple. If you’re going to go and change the Phantom’s costume completely, shouldn’t you also change the color, too? The first trailer for it below. The legendary superhero returns in this modern-day and action packed miniseries event. When Kit Walker (Ryan Carnes) learns of his father’s death, the adventurous young man inherits the mantle of his superhero father. 'Phantom' Mini-Series Gets Greenlight
Canada's Movie Central and The Movie Network today announced that they have given the greenlight to a four-hour mini-series adaptation of the long-running superhero 'The Phantom'. The series will be a co-production with Sci Fi Channel (soon to be renamed Syfy). It will debut on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2010.

The Phantom was created by Lee Falk and first appeared in 1936 as a newspaper strip. Since then a character with that name has appeared in comic books by numerous publishers throughout the world. The Phantom has also starred in animated and live-action screen adaptations. The latter include a 1940s movie serial, a 1996 theatrical film and a 1961 TV pilot. Another feature film adaptation, The Phantom: Legacy, is also in the works.  Speaking to Moviehole, screenwriter Tim Boyle said that the movie is still at the scripting stage and he believes it will go into pre-production...

Ryan Carnes is 'The Phantom'; Plus Costume Sketches
According to The Hollywood Reporter Sci Fi (Syfy) Channel's The Phantom telemovie has cast four actors, including Doctor Who veteran Ryan Carnes — also known for Desperate Housewives — in the leading role, and Alias star Isabella Rossellini as the villain.

If the telefilm follows the established fable, Carnes will presumably star as Kit Walker, the 21st man to bear the mantle of The Phantom. Rossellini will play the guest-villain role of Lithia, who is overseeing a mind-control experiment.

Cameron Goodman (Mad Men) and Sandrine Holt (24) have also joined the cast in unspecified roles.

According to the trade, the network envisions this four-hour re-imagined Phantom as a potential series, but hasn't seen fit yet to give it the green light; obviously waiting to see how the telefilm performs.

In related news, a set of concept designs arrived online earlier this week, giving us at least a general sense of what the latest...

Isabella Rossellini will guest star in the mini-series as the villainous Lithia, bent on succeeding with her mind-control power experiments. Cameron Goodman and Sandrine Holt are also starring. “The Phantom” begins production on Monday, and will air next year on Syfyas a four-hour movie/mini-series. The New Phantom, er, Doesn’t Look like the Phantom at All
Well you knew they had to do it: the Sci Fi Channel is bringing back The Phantom, but it won’t be The Phantom fans grew up with. Instead, it’ll be one of those fandangled “re-imaginings” where in lieu of his skin-tight purple suit and mask, this new, younger Phantom will instead look like, well, an alien from outer space who wants to take a dip in your pool. Or possibly break into your house and steal your stereo. Here are the new concept art for the new Phantom from SciFiWire. Ryan Carnes will be playing the new version of the Phantom. No wonder they hired a kid for the role. The Phantom in this new incarnation is basically a teenager. The two-night mini-series will work as a backdoor pilot for The Sci Fi Channel, who may put the character into series if the ratings are good enough. It...

Sci Fi Casts 'Riverworld', 'Phantom' Leads
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sci Fi Channel has cast lead actors for Riverworld and The Phantom, both forthcoming four-hour movie events that will serve as trials for possible new series.

Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse alumn Tahmoh Penikett and Smallville supergirl Laura Vandervoort will star in Riverworld, and Ryan Carnes (Desperate Housewives) has been cast as the Phantom.

Penikett will play war correspondent Matt Ellman, who is killed along with his fiancee (Vandervoort) but awakens in a mysterious world populated by everyone who has lived on Earth.

Alan Cumming is set to guest star as the Caretaker; Jeananne Goossen and Mark Deklin also have been cast.

As we reported back in February, Riverworld will lens in Vancouver.

In Phantom, Carnes will play the well-known comic book hero, and Isabella Rossellini will guest star as the villainous Lithia, who is overseeing a mind-control experiment. Additional Phantom cast members include Cameron Goodman and Sandrine Holt.

Ryan Carnes to play "the ghost who walks" in new TV version of "The Phantom"
From the "whatever happened to?" department comes word that actor Ryan Carnes has been cast in a new version of the classic comic book hero The Phantom.

It will be a four-hour TV movie for the Sci-Fi, excuse me, Sy-Fy Channel (rolls eyes) that will also serve as a pilot for a potential new series. If it sounds familiar, you may remember that Billy Zane starred in an ill-received theatrical version back in the 90's.

Ryan Carnes is probably best known for playing Justin, the boyfriend of Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom) on the early days of Desperate Housewives, and for famously showing his doodle in the queer indie hit Eating Out.

With Scott Lunsford in Eating Out and Shawn Pyfrom in Desperate Housewives

The pilot looks like a must-see, as it also stars Cameron Goodman (who played Kitty Cutie in the movie Succubus) and Sandrine Holt (from The L Word and...

Ryan Carnes cast for Sci-Fi's Phantom
Some may know him from "Desperate Housewives," others will know him from "Trailer Park of Terror," but very soon all will know Ryan Carnes as The Phantom in the Sci-Fi Channel's new four hour pilot film of the popular character.

Isabella Rossellini has also been cast as the villainous Lithia, and further cast members include Cameron Goodman and Sandrine Holt. Considering last years rumours of a big budget picture for the Phantom - possibly starring Sam Worthington in the title role - this is a strange direction to take.

Still, considering the fact that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been running (with dubious success) despite the impending fourth installment of the series, it does demonstrate that concurrent "universes" for certain properties can work quite well.

Rest assured, I'll keep an eye on this production and let you know more as it develops.

Supergirl and Helo in Riverworld, Ryan Carnes is The Phantom for Sci Fi Channel
The Sci Fi Channel’s two newest offerings, Riverworld and The Phantom (based on the comic book and, as far as we can tell, completely different from the movie starring Billy Zane), have found their leads. For Riverworld, based on Philip Jose Farmer’s series of fantasy novels, former Battlestar Galactica star Tahmoh Penikett and Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort will play the show’s leads, a war correspondent and his wife who both die and are resurrected on Riverworld, a mysterious world populated by everyone who has ever lived (and died) on Earth. Meanwhile, THR’s Live Feed also reports that relative unknown Ryan Carnes (pictured, right) has been cast as the lead in the Sci Fi Channel’s resurrection of the Phantom comic book character. The cable net will re-introduce the purple tights wearing hero to the world in a four-hour movie intended as a backdoor pilot for a TV series.

Shuttle: A Movie Review
Writer of 2007s "Flawless," Edward Anderson sits in the director's chair for the first time in horror film "Shuttle," a 2008 SXSW movie entry, which is now pushing forward with an April 7, 2009 DVD release date. Light on scares or gore "Shuttle," utilizes a character reveal at midpoint to add a twist where one is usually found in the ending and an intensity chills throughout. Not bowing to conventional story development Anderson finds his stride in this 106 minute tightly written thriller.

Beginning with good friends Mel (Peyton List) and Jules (Cameron Goodman) returning from a southern holiday these two comely girls quickly flirt, then entice Seth (James Snyder) and Matt (Dave Power) to join them in a cheap airport shuttle ride. Pretty boy and wanton ladies man, Seth engrosses himself with bubbly, blonde Jules while laidback, complainer Matt warms to Mel, a recent dumpee from a previous cheating fiancé. In Shuttle (being given an unfortunately token theatrical release in a handful of cities this month by Truly Indie ahead of its April DVDebut via Magnolia Pictures), the trouble has already started for longtime best friends Mel (Peyton List) and Jules (Cameron Goodman) once their plane has touched down; Mel is suffering air sickness, and they’re held up in the terminal when one of their bags goes missing. They wind up being among the last people left there on the rainy night, along with Seth (James Snyder), a constant on-the-maker...

Shuttle drives to DVD, Donkey Punch art appears
Magnolia Pictures has announced that it will release Shuttle to DVD April 7 under its Magnet banner. The company also released artwork for Olly Blackburn’s Donkey Punch, coming in rated and five-minutes-longer unrated editions the same day.

Writer/director Edward Anderson’s Shuttle premiered at last year’s South by Southwest film festival. Peyton List and Cameron Goodman star in Shuttle as two friends who get stranded at an airport late one night after returning home from vacation. They and three others are picked up by a shuttle bus, and soon its mysterious driver (Tony Curran from Underworld: Evolution) is taking them on a frightening ride. Prior to the disc release, Magnet/Magnolia will open Shuttle in limited theatrical bookings March 6.

In Donkey Punch, three girls on vacation in Majorca take a boat trip with four guys on the yacht the latter are crewing, and the subsequent carnal activities lead to serious violence.
