The Good Wife, Season 6, Episode 11: “Hail Mary”
Written by Erica Shelton Kodish

Well, now we know how Kalinda might find her way out of the series. “Hail Mary” is a hectic, tense hour of The Good Wife, but its parts don’t quite add up to a totally satisfying whole, especially when considered as the culmination of an unusually long story (by Good Wife standards).
It’s difficult not to think of Spike Lee’s last great film, 25th Hour, in the best scenes of “Hail Mary,” which involve Cary being prepped for the worst of the pen by an expert (a perfectly cast Domenick Lombardozzi, bringing the series total number of The Wire alumni to approximately seven million). The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

The Good Wife, Season 5, Episode 20, “The Deep Web”
Written By Luke Schelhaas & Erica Shelton Kodish
Directed by Rosemary Rodriguez
Airs Sundays at 9pm on CBS
Alicia Florrick is in crisis. She lost the man she loved, the one she saw as her lifeboat even in the rockiest storm (and he caused a fair amount of her storms himself). What she really lost, more than Will Gardner, was the possibility Will represented to her. As long as Will was out there, better days were coming for Alicia. She’d leave Peter behind. She’d stop being restrained by roles she felt forced to play. She’d figure out a way to finally just be happy.
With Will gone, Alicia is going to have to learn that the possibility he represented has never been external, that thinking about it that way isn’t productive and isn’t likely to get her to where she needs to be.

The Good Wife, Season 5, Episode 13, “Parallel Construction, Bitches”

Airs Sundays at 9pm Est on CBS
The mid-season break The Good Wife took over the last few months was almost certainly not built into the show’s plan for the season (if it was, it was not handled particularly elegantly). Where plenty of other network shows have taken to doing “mid-season finales” and structuring their longer, more unwieldy episode counts like two mini-seasons that form a more coherent whole, this is a show that works best as a behemoth, a large series of interconnecting plotlines that slowly fade in and out of relevance and become increasingly or decreasingly important across the season.
