She has appeared as lead and supporting characters in many independent features and short films including features "We Broke Up", "DOE", "Midlife" "Love Arcadia". The short film "Justice for Vincent" has earned her several Best Actress awards in different film festivals; "Dancing for You" won her a Best Supporting Actress award.
When she was young in China, she toured with Chairman Mao Zedong's Communist Propaganda Performance Troupe in Inner Mongolia region throughout her elementary school years. After coming to America to get her MA in Education, she accidentally got cast in her first American theatre role in Chicago. She performed in Chicago theatres for five years then went to get her MFA in Theatre and Dance. She studied acting with Byrne and Joyce Piven at the Piven Workshop Theatre.
She had been in many theatre and dance productions in Chicago, Honolulu and Los Angeles. She wrote and performed her original one woman show "Life Flies" and toured it in Honolulu and Los Angeles area. She left acting for nine years (2001-2010) to raise her two sons and teaching English to new immigrants. She came back to acting officially in 2011. - Lee Chen was referred by her friend to director Orestes Matacena to audition for the role of Chinese Chairman's wife for the feature film "Two de Force", but the role was already cast at the time. She is from China and has firearm experiences and does Shaolin Kung Fu, so Orestes wrote a part for her to fire a machine gun in the film. She never read the script and improvised her role in Chinese on the set with Orestes' directions.
