‘Diabolik’ Review
Image
Stars: Luca Marinelli, Miriam Leone, Valerio Mastandrea, Alessandro Roja, Serena Rossi, Luca Di Giovanni, Claudia Gerini, Vanessa Scalera, Roberto Citran, Guglielmo Favilla | Written by The Manetti Bros., Michelangelo Le Neve | Directed by Antonio and Marco Manetti

I’ve been a fan of the Manetti Brothers – Antonio and Marco – since the first time I saw their fantastic sci-fi horror The Arrival of Wang way back in 2012. Since then the pair have directed numerous films, including Paura 3D and the action ‘Mafia musical’ Love and Bullets. The pair also produced Daniele Misischia’s fantastic zombie film The End?, which screened at Frightfest in 2017… Why mention those films? Because all of those films have – unfortunately – faded into obscurity on these shores since debuting at films festivals here in the UK. Hopefully Diabolik, the duo’s latest film based on the classic Italian comic book anti-hero of the same name will not suffer the same fate,...

Watch: Claymation Noir Short Film 'Framed' Made by Marco Jemolo
"I tried to make people question what the act of watching implies." This handmade-with-clay, stop-motion animated film made by Italian filmmaker Marco Jemolo is a philosophical, existential five-minute short. It's described as a "noir satirical tale that investigates how modern society limits individual freedom." The story follows a man who is framed, but will anyone listen to his story? It's fascinating to watch and then question what you're watching. Marco wanted to make a film "about the role of individuals in society, about the extent of their own free will." In only five minutes he covers a number of topics that reflect the struggles of individuality in modern society. Featuring the voice of Guglielmo Favilla as F.K., and Dario Penne as Agente. To watch with English subtitles, click the [cc] button on YouTube. This short will make you ponder. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this.

Eaters (2011)
Directed by: Marco Ristori and Luca Boni

Written by: Marco Ristori and Germano Tarricone

Starring: Guglielmo Favilla, Alex Lucchesi, Claudio Marmugi, Rosella Elmi

The cover art for Eaters proclaims that the film is “presented by Uwe Boll.” This information should be more than enough for potential viewers to make up their minds. Mr. Boll did not direct this latest take on the zombie apocalypse, nor did he have much direct involvement with the production. So if the best your Italian zombie film has to trumpet is a tenuous association with the reviled filmmaker of House of the Dead, then you’ve already set the expectation level rather low. It turns out the Boll mention was an adequate, and honest, admonition of the resulting 95 minutes.

A mutant virus that turns humans into flesh-eating zombies has destroyed the civilized world. In a filthy, dilapidated compound a scientist with the unfortunate name of...

Uwe Boll’s Eaters Marches to American DVD
Uwe Boll didn’t actually direct Eaters but he does “present” it. Don’t let that scare you off because this Italian nod to Romero-esque zombie flicks has gotten some fairly decent reviews. We Americans will finally get our chance to get eaten this coming March.

Mark March 5th on your calendar because that’s the day the dead will be devouring DVD, the date when E1 Entertainment brings Eaters to American shores. If you want to know how long it has taken for North America to get Eaters, our own UK critic “Pestilence” penned a positive review of the UK DVD release all the way back in June 2011.

Marco Risori and Luca Boni co-directed; Guglielmo Favilla, Alex Lucchesi, Steve Sylvester, Rosella Elmi, and Richard Burton co-star; and, most importantly, Uwe Boll presents!

Synopsis:

After being devastated by a deadly epidemic, the world is now governed by hordes of living dead.

Eaters and Your Ticket to a Zombie Road Show: A Movie Review
*here be some spoilers.

Directors: Luca Boni and Marco Ristori.

Writers: Germano Tarricone and Marco Ristori.

Eaters or Eaters: Rise of the Dead is an Italian film in Italian that puts two characters on the road in an apocalypse. Much of the world's population is dead and those remaining shamble the earth forever. This is a tense zombie film that focuses primarily on two characters, Igor (Alex Lucchesi) and Alen (Guglielmo Favilla). Everyone else in the film, including a midget Fascist, are just a small part of this travelling zombie road show.

Much like a circus, this new world is full of perverts, mad scientists, talking zombies and even a bloodsport arena. Igor and Alen encounter all of these situations, but they deal with them in two different ways. Alen, the introvert, would rather use his guile to deal with Carvaggio, a painter of corpses and with others. Igor, the extrovert,...

Eaters (2011)
Directed by Luca Boni, Marco Ristori

Featuring Rosella Elmi, Guglielmo Favilla, Alex Lucchesi and Elisa Ferretti

There’s something magical in learning to trust again. Since 28 Days Later’s release in 2002 we’ve seen an unholy influx of zombie movies. From high budget to low, from the big to the small screen, they all seemed to be as infectious as some unnamed disease.

As the dead perpetually rise, it’s hard to maintain an unbiased view. What started as a fun, revitalizing trend for the horror genre has become a punch-line in recent years. Eaters, however, has one of the most enticing and interesting mixtures of zombie loving lineage going for it that I’ve seen in a long time. After the Golden Age of Italian zombie flicks started by some guy named Argento, this sub-sub-genre dwindled as British and American directors took on the undead and made as many...

DVD Review: Eaters – Rise of the Dead
Eaters: Rise Of The Dead

Guest Review by Dog Ate My Wookie

Stars: Alex Lucchesi, Elisa Ferretti, Guglielmo Favilla, Rosella Elmi | Written by Germano Tarricone, Marco Ristori | Directed by Luca Boni, Marco Ristori

To feel sceptical about a film presented by cult writer Uwe Boll feels almost universal. I’m in the same boat as a magnitude of others, right? It’s dampened further with a film titled Eaters: Rise of the Dead. Another addition to the post-apocalyptic zombie features that are churned onto DVD weekly, with most failing to strike an original spark and flailing incoherently into something that merely glorifies sanguinary carnage.

The world has become ravaged by zombies, again. But this time we’re in Italy, with the female population falling not only infected first, but being deemed infertile. Our story, however, follows two zombie hunters, Alen and Igor, under the jurisdiction of scientist Gyno,...

Eaters: Rise Of The Dead DVD review
The end of the world: Italy. First the women died, then nearly everyone else died - and then, they began to come back...

You know the scene. The dead walk, the survivors are few, and to make things worse, they're all male. In an obscure corner of Italy, zombie hunters Igor (Alex Lucchesi) and Alen (Guglielmo Favilla) provide undead test subjects for the experiments of the rather twitchy research scientist Gyno (Claudio Marmugi). Gyno's main lab-rat, however, is Alen's girlfriend Alexis (Rosella Elmi), the only female not to have been entirely 'zombified' during the Great Epidemic - and perhaps the only chance of a cure and potential future for mankind.

Trouble lies ahead when the guys discover a healthy living girl who may provide part of the answer as to how the apocalypse came to be - and what exactly the mysterious Gyno is really up to back in the lab.

Indie Watch: Teaser Trailer for Eaters
Marco Ristori and Luca Boni have debuted the teaser trailer for their Italian zombie epic Eaters . Shepherding the project? None other than Uwe Boll ( House of the Dead ). Boll's involvement, however, may be nothing more than positive support because he's not listed as a producer, but he takes a "Uwe Boll presents" card. David Bracci, Filippo Corradin, Paco Ferrari, Ristori and Boni wear the producer hats here while Alex Lucchesi and Guglielmo Favilla star as two survivors trekking across a post-apocalyptic land riddled with zombies. The teaser you see below is just a warm up to the start of principal photography which begins this June. Meanwhile, details are in on the direct-to-dvd Feast of the Vampires .
