It is customary that once every few years, a movie studio - in hopes of creating future success - will produce a sacrificial lamb of sorts, a high-budget fantasy film with a cast only most directors could dream of that exists purely to fail spectacularly at the box office. If you find this to be entirely unbelievable, then surely question why there is such a trend in fantasy that continues to this day.

It varies from film to film on the specifics of the failure - sometimes it's a matter of poor script, sometimes overestimation of the audience turnout, sometimes the story just doesn’t appeal. Whatever the case was for Jack the Giant Slayer, the film didn't get the success it deserves, though it will get another chance to shine when it starts streaming on Netflix on April 1, via What's On Netflix.

The Forsytes is making history for PBS Masterpiece. The drama series, which is the third adaptation of The Forsyte Saga book series by John Galsworthy, is a rare British production to be green-lit by an American network. And now, a U.K. channel is picking it up for distribution. Typically with PBS programming, it’s British shows that get picked up by the network for U.S. distribution. Clearly, there’s something special about this upcoming period drama beyond just the star-studded cast that includes Francesca Annis, Millie Gibson, Jack Davenport, Stephen Moyer, Josette Simon, Tom Durant-Pritchard, Eleanor Tomlinson, Susan Hampshire OBE — a returning star from the 1960s BBC adaptation — and more. The Forsytes cast was announced in April 2024. PBS said it’s “a lavish reimagining” of Galsworthy’s books that’s “planned as a returning series,” which means the network intends for it to be more than one season.

Exclusive: The Forsyte family looks set to become a fixture on PBS Masterpiece as the network is ready to renew the period drama before the first season has even premieres.

The Forsytes is a glossy adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, John Galsworthy’s sweeping portrait of a wealthy British family in 1880s London.

Deadline hears that filming on a second season is expected to take place over the summer in the UK, though PBS Masterpiece has not confirmed the drama’s renewal. A premiere date for Season 1 has yet to be revealed.

It comes after Paramount-owned broadcaster Channel 5 revealed that it had acquired The Forsytes in the UK. Channel 5 also combines with PBS Masterpiece on hit series All Creatures Great and Small.

Produced by Poldark maker Mammoth Screen, The Forsytes‘ ensemble cast is led by BAFTA-winner Francesca Annis (Lillie), who plays formidable matriarch Ann.

If you were hoping for more of The Couple Next Door on Starz today, we're sorry to say that the season is over. The finale was released last week on Feb. 21 with episode 6, "Crimes of Passion." It was a pretty anticlimactic end to the story if I'm being honest. But, here we are.

That does mean that there is no episode 7, as well as no more new episodes going forward since season 1 was only six total. Perhaps you enjoyed the show more than me, which is great. You know, sometimes you just want to watch a show and completely immerse yourself in something that doesn’t need you to use your brain at all. While chick flicks are the general go-to for such moments, I’d like to argue that the adult thriller is a close second, or maybe an even bigger guilty pleasure. The first episode is definitely an establishing one where we meet the characters and find out where everyone's headspace is at. At the same time, of course the writers throw in some intriguing secrets and provide little hints at the struggles they're facing.

Even if you haven't had a chance to watch the first episode yet, you've probably seen the trailer and the mature-looking subject matter. It's pretty straightforward and you can guess why the show on Starz is rated TV-ma. This means that the series contains scenes not suitable for those under 17 years old.

Even so, you might be looking for a little more detail to see whether your older teens might be able to watch it, with or without supervision.

Sam Heughan and Outlander fans, we have good news to share with you! Of course we love to see the actor as the one and only Jamie Fraser, but that doesn't mean we don't also love supporting the cast in other projects. One of the intriguing ones us in the U.S. have been waiting to see is The Couple Next Door starring Heughan himself. There's finally a premiere date, but it's a little longer than promised.

In July 2024, Starz shared that the psychological drama was set to begin streaming and airing in winter 2024. So perhaps a December release is what was assumed. However, The Couple Next Door will premiere Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 on Starz. Now, look. I know the wait is not that much longer than what we'd been anticipating. Starz has announced a January 17 premiere date for the six-part psychological drama, The Couple Next Door, following the season seven finale of Outlander, and released the key art and trailer for the dark new thriller.

The series, starring Sam Heughan, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica De Gouw and Alfred Enoch will be available to stream weekly on Fridays on the Starz app, all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms.

Channel 4 in the UK has renewed The Couple Next Door for a second season ahead of its U.S. premiere on Starz. It is unknown whether season two will air on the American cable network. Season one aired on Channel 4 in November 2023.

Get ready for some more chaotic romantic entanglements as The Couple Next Door has been renewed for Season 2, according to a report from Deadline. The UK series debuted last winter on Channel 4 to incredible ratings, starring Outlander star Sam Heughan and Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws). Within just a week of its premiere, the psychological thriller became Channel 4's highest-viewing scripted streaming launch, with over 1 million views. With a record like that, a renewal was definitely a no-brainer. Season 2 will feature an all-new cast and a story different from the first.

Channel 4 has renewed the psychological drama for a second season after the first became the UK network’s biggest scripted streaming launch on record, with episode one garnering more than a million views in its first seven days.

Channel 4 co-produced Season 1 of The Couple Next Door with Starz, but the Lionsgate brand was not mentioned in the press release for Season 2. Deadline has asked about Starz’s involvement.

Paramount Global Content Distribution inked a multi-year volume deal with beIN Media Group, giving the Qatari-owned group exclusive rights to Paramount’s content library, including acclaimed series like Yellowstone, Billions, new offerings such as NCIS: Tony & Ziva and feature films including Bob Marley: One Love and the Transformers and Mission: Impossible franchises, across the Middle East and North Africa for beIN’s premium Pay TV channels and Tod streaming platform. Beta Film secured major deals in more than 55 territories across the world, including Rtl in Germany, Rai in Italy, Amazon in the Netherlands (first window) and Rtl in the Netherlands (second window), as well as Vtm in Belgium, and Yes in Israel. The North Road Company has made a major hire in the UK, bringing in former Channel 4 drama boss Caroline Hollick.

Based out of London, Hollick will be North Road’s Senior VP International Production and Development. She’ll work closely with North Road President of Television Amy Israel and her LA-based team to identify “fresh voices and top creative talent for North Road to collaborate with in the UK and other European markets.”

Hollick exited during UK network Channel 4’s swingeing cutbacks earlier this year after a six-year spell in which she oversaw critical hit shows such as It’s a Sin, Help, The Gathering and the I Am… franchise. We first reported on the news in February and her departure was confirmed the following month.

“Caroline is a skilled creative executive with exceptional taste, instincts, and relationships,” said Israel and Jan Frouman, North Road’s President of International, in a statement.
