Bruce Lee was a true legend, not only in martial arts but in the world of cinema, as his skills, charisma, and teachings reshaped the way the world viewed movement on screen. The icon brought a new level of intensity to fight scenes, making them feel more like a form of art than anything else. Lee didn't just perform, but made every move count, blending speed, power, and grace in a way no one had seen before.
Other than amassing a cult following, Lee inspired a number of films that feature his signature combination of athleticism and philosophy. From classic martial arts movies everyone should see to hidden gems of the '80s and '90s, each piece carries a piece of his unparalleled legacy. With no doubt about it, Bruce Lee changed martial arts movies forever, proving that the genre could be about more than just action.

It’s astounding how many great modern martial arts movies have received near-universal praise on Rotten Tomatoes. While it’s well known that iconic classics of years gone by, like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, have long been favored by movie critics, these films' legendary status can sometimes overshadow the merits of more recent martial arts triumphs in the 21st century. That’s why it’s important to take the time to praise modern martial arts movies that have pushed the genre into brave new territory in recent years and continued to enthrall viewers with spectacular fight sequences.
Some of the all-time great martial performances occurred in the 21st century, and acclaimed directors like Zhang Yimou and Ang Lee have kept the quality of martial arts cinema high. These excellent films boasted spectacular performances from modern martial arts stars like Tony Jaa, Jet Li, and Michelle Yeoh. While martial arts cinema...

It’s always good to bow out leaving people wanting more. Yet if you were to tell us back in 2004 that “Kung Fu Hustle” would be the penultimate time we would see Stephen Chow in front of the camera then very few would believe you. His cinematic popularity was at its apex with international recognition coming through the release of “Shaolin Soccer” and this subsequent follow up. With only “CJ7” to come a few years later. Alongside “Shaolin Soccer” this madcap action-comedy both sends up and homages the martial arts cinema that Stephen Chow loves so much and serves as an ideal entry point to his world of Mo Lei Tau comedy.

Chicago – “The Sorcerer and the White Snake” is a title that suggests the sort of tall tale that would entrance a crowd of scouts around a camp fire. It’s chockfull of fantastical creatures and action-packed setpieces, but its shoddy special effects cause it to fall short of pure enchantment. As for the story itself, it’s pure silliness.
Jet Li receives top-billing solely because he happens to be Jet Li, but he could hardly be considered the main character. This is primarily a star-crossed romance between a good-hearted physician, Xu Xian (Raymond Lam), who unwittingly falls in love with a demonic snake that takes the form of a seductive woman (Eva Huang). Their love appears to be genuine, especially after the snake saves his life, but master monk Abott Fahai (played by a bored Li) won’t allow such an outlandish union to take place, inspiring gloriously silly dialogue like,...

The Sorcerer and the White Snake
Directed by Ching Siu-tung
Written by Charcoal Tan, Tsang Kan-Cheung, Szeto Cheuk-Hon
Hong Kong/China, 2011
Adapted, one assumes loosely, from an ancient Chinese legend, The Sorcerer and the White Snake reveals the tale of how two worlds, the world of humans and the world of demons, collid together for love despite tradition dictating for years that they should not. Two snake demons, the white snake Susu (Eva Huang) and the green snake QingQing (Charlene Choi), each fall for two different human men, propelling their respective universes into tremendous conflict, particularly when the great monk Fahai (Jet Li), constantly on the prowl for such monsters as the snake woman, learns of their infatuation. Is it true that love conquers all, or shall old divides keep everyone apart?
We live in a day and age in which hundreds of films employ the assistance of computer generated technology to enhance movies.

Kung Fu megastar Donnie yen as just recently starting filming the remake of the 1989 Yuen Biao movie “The Iceman Cometh” which will be shot in 3D.
The movie will see Donnie take on the role that Yuen Biao did so well in 1989, which also starred Maggie Cheung and Yuen Wah, but the cast for the latest movie will include Simon yam, Wang Baoqiang and Eva Huang. A few months back the director of the movie claimed Yuen Biao will make a surprise cameo and also fight Donnie yen, but nothing was mentioned about this in the last few weeks.
The budget for the movie is $150 million (Us), so we should expect some big action sequences and great fight scenes and if the remake is anything like the original, then be ready for a great movie.

Director: Ching Siu Tung. Review: Adam Wing. Stop me if you’ve heard this one. Two beautiful girls live amongst the trees, frolicking in a CGI forest and talking to animals. They could be lovers, they might be sisters (very close sisters), but they frolic all the same - laughing, giggling and slithering through life. One of the girls becomes obsessed with a rather damp excuse for a human being, saves his life and then stalks him for a while. The other girl longs for companionship and befriends a dim-witted demon hunter. The dim-witted hunter is bitten by a giant bat demon and starts to transform, but the beautiful girl vows to teach him the ways of a human/demon hybrid – as you do I guess. Perhaps I should’ve mentioned that this is a Jet Li movie, with the martial arts legend appearing alongside a long line of CGI nastiness,...

Now that Golden Week is over and China's colossal work force is back to the proverbial grindstone, now would be the perfect time to see what kept the movie-going public entertained during the national holidays. If you like your martial arts movies peppered with mythical creatures and a wide assortment of dodgy special effects, then the upcoming Jet Li epic “The Sorcerer and the White Snake” might be right up your cinematic alley. And while I happen to adore motion pictures of this nature, I strongly suspect that the large amount of CGI tomfoolery contained within Li’s latest endeavor may rub some fans the wrong way. It might be a little rough around the edges, but I think the flick looks immensely enjoyable, even if the special effects aren’t the sharpest I’ve ever seen. Besides, I’m willing to overlook such transgressions if the fights are top notch. Here’s what the story is all about: White Snake (Eva Huang), in the incarnation of a beautiful lady, falls in love with a young herbalist Xu Xian (Raymond Lam). With the help of...
