Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky concerns a trio of best friends who create an imaginary person to blame for their misdeeds. As the years go by, Dean (Zac Efron), Jt (Andrew Santino), and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) continue using “Ricky” as an excuse any time they want to skip, say, a family gathering or sneak out on a boys’ weekend. In such moments, they simply tell their significant others that Ricky really needs them right now.
That’s a solid enough setup for a film, a kind of coming-of-middle-age comedy in the vein of Jeff Tomsic’s Tag, where the characters’ commitment to a childhood tradition ends up jeopardizing their adult lives in the process. But where the antics of Tag’s characters effectively captured the stupid joy of acting like your younger self while hanging out with your oldest friends, Ricky Stanicky is stupid in a much less joyful way.

Comedian Bert Kreischer is sticking with Netflix, signing with the streamer to film two more stand-up comedy specials. This reps the fourth and fifth specials for Kreischer at Netflix, following “Razzle Dazzle” (2023), “Hey Big Boy” (2020), and “Secret Time” (2018).
The first of the two specials will be filmed by Kreischer at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Fla., on July 6. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Kreischer, who grew up in nearby Tampa (where he most recently sold out the Amalie Arena in February 2023). Kreischer’s Florida bonafides include attending Florida State University, where he was infamously dubbed the “Number One Partier in the Nation” by Rolling Stone in 1997.
Kreischer will exec produce the new specials along with LeeAnn Kreischer, Judi Marmel, Tony Hernandez, Jeff Tomsic and Jordan Levy. Tomsic is also the director, while Kreischer’s Berty Boy Prods. is behind the specials.

Bert Kreischer: Razzle Dazzle is a stand-up comedy special on Netflix directed by Jeff Tomsic and starring the iconic Bert Kreischer.
He introduces himself to the audience with a pint in his hand and… with his shirt on, though it barely lasts three seconds. Bert Kreischer has the audience eating out of his hand from the get-go, with his jokes about underwear that snags on things and his jokes about… bumpkins.
Sophisticated? Maybe not, but Mr. Kreischer dazzles his audience, who get feverishly fired up by his jokes, which are accompanied by his wild gesticulations and his… let’s say, unathletic… physique.

Less than a minute into Bert Kreischer’s latest special, he rips his shirt off.
The move is met with thunderous applause in Omaha’s Orpheum Theater, where he shot the hour that’s dropping globally March 14 — though you get the sense that that’s the response wherever Kreischer goes. After all, the married dad of two has been performing bare-chested for as long as he can remember. It’s not so much a gimmick, he says, as it is the way he feels most at ease. “It’s so my comfort zone,” he explains over the phone.
Kreischer’s new set, which he’s titled “Razzle Dazzle,” has him making comedy hay of such subjects as bodily emissions, being bullied by his teen daughters, Georgia and Ila, and the explosive end to his family’s escape room outing. Zachary Levi is set to play a spy again in the upcoming film Spy Guys, with Jeff Tomsic (Tag) directing from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel. Deadline reports the following synopsis for the film:
Levi will play a super spy in the vein of Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt who gets in a jam on an impossible mission and can only rely on the help of his moronic college friends who happen to be with him to work it out.
There is not a release date yet, but they want to pump this film out before Levi gets busy making the Shazam! sequel, so they’d better get on it! This sounds like a super funny movie, and I will be excited to see who they cast as his moronic friends.

Exclusive: New Line Cinema is negotiating with Zachary Levi to star in Spy Guys, and it has just set Jeff Tomsic to direct the script by Adam Sztykiel. That puts the action comedy on a fast track as the aim here is to get the movie made before Levi reprises in the Shazam! sequel, which New Line is also percolating.
Tomsic made his directorial debut last year on the New Line comedy Tag, and cut his teeth on the Comedy Central series Broad City and Idiotsitter, on which he is executive producer. Sztykiel’s credits include Rampage and Due Date.

Following last year’s Truth Or Dare, here is another film based on a classic childhood game. TV director Jeff Tomsic makes his cinematic debut with this all-star cast led “comedy” which takes cues from the hugely enjoyable Game Night but is inspired by the true story of a Tag game that has been going on for nearly four decades. Sadly Tomsic’s big screen iteration is crushingly banal: an agonisingly trite waste of life film or digital memory that lacks purpose, decorum and, most of all, laughs. Tag starts in 1983, at the outset of the decades stretching session where young versions of the protagonists, resembling Stranger Things cast-offs, are deployed as plot cogs then swiftly discarded.

In this interview with James Kleinmann Tag director Jeff Tomsic talks about working with Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm & Ed Helms in this irreverent new comedy. He talks about how the Renner singing scene came about, how he was reluctant to work on the movie when he first got the script and how the film mirrors his own life with his friends who visited the set.
He also talks about how hard it was turning a relatively boring premise into an exciting film, the proof of which you can judge for yourself when Tag is released in UK cinemas on the 29th of June.
Here’s the interview,
Synopsis
A small group of former classmates organize an elaborate, annual game of tag that requires some to travel all over the country.

To mark the release of Tag on 29th June, we’ve been given 3 merchandise packs including a baseball hat, a handprint tee, a powerbank, a set of 5 shot glasses, a sound cooler and Tag post-it notes to give away.
For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready. Based on a true story, the New Line Cinema comedy “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.

Chicago – When a real life group of friends keep a thirty year tradition alive, playing a game of “Tag,” there is bound to be a film that shares the same name. Jeff Tomsic makes his director debut with a killer cast… Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress and Jeremy Renner, all still playing that childhood game.
The rules are the game only takes place in the month of May every year, and there are other agreed upon guidelines like no “tag backs.” The kicker is that Jerry (Jeremy Renner) has never been “It.” Yes, in all the years the crew has been playing the game, he’s never been tagged. The other players see an opportunity during Jerry’s wedding weekend, if they can overcome his determination, his bride-to-be (Anabelle Wallis), and the various women in their lives, as portrayed by Isla Fisher, Rashida Jones and Nora Dunn.

Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” is flying to an estimated $182 million from 4,410 North American locations in its debut weekend.
Disney’s most recent estimate is more conservative, predicting an opening between $160 million and $170 million. Either way, “Incredibles 2” will become the animated film with the highest ever opening weekend, beating out 2016’s “Finding Dory,” which brought in $135 million.
“Incredibles 2” earned a record-breaking $18.5 million in Thursday previews alone, causing its debut box office predictions to skyrocket from an an earlier range of $125 million to $140 million. It grossed an estimated $71.5 million on Friday, and became the 47th film to earn an A+ CinemaScore. The film is currently rated at 94% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Brad Bird film reunites original voice cast members Craig T. Nelson (Mr. Incredible), Holly Hunter (Elastigirl), Samuel L. Jackson (Frozone), and Sarah Vowell (Violet), with newcomer Huck Milner as Dash. Sophia Bush and Bob Odenkirk also star.

There’s a tremendous documentary to be made in the premise for “Tag,” the feature directorial debut of Jeff Tomsic. Inspired by a true story, the new comedy centers around a group of life-long friends who’ve played the same game of tag, one month in the year, for the past three decades. These grown men have resorted to drastic measures in order to tag their friends. They’ll fake identities, drive miles upon miles away to their friend’s destination, dress up in elaborate costumes — the whole gambit.

Tag is the kind of movie so crazy you couldn’t make it up. So they didn’t. There really is a group of friends who have been playing tag well into adulthood. The movie is based on Russell Adams’ Wall Street Journal article. Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson and Hannibal Burress play a group of childhood friends who conspire to finally tag their friend Jerry (Jeremy Renner), who has evaded them since childhood. Jeff Tomsic makes his feature film debut directing Tag, although he has directed television and shorts since 2007. Tomsic spoke with Monsters and Critics about Tag, which […]

Welcome to an R-rated summer funfest ... with the substance and staying power of a helium balloon. It's a trip, at least until the laughing gas sputters and evaporates. Based on a true story (reported in a 2013 article in the Wall Street Journal), this comedy foillows a group of fortysomething manchildren who meet up one month out of every year to play the infantile game they’re been obsessing over since First Grade. It's a competition that revels unashamedly in the male need to compete as a way of expressing a...

It’s been said that “We don’t stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing.” What a great ethos for a film like “Tag” to have, since it gives every character an excuse to act like an immature child, and it gives the rest of the movie an excuse to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, from one genre and tone to another.
TV director Jeff Tomsic’s new comedy stars Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, Jake Johnson and Jeremy Renner as boyhood friends who still play the game of tag, every year, throughout the month of May. They’re not just messing around either. They’ll infiltrate each other’s businesses, jump out of windows and absolutely annihilate each other’s lives just to slap their hands on one another and say, “You’re it.”

The game began when they were nine years old. Thirty-five years later, it’s still going strong as five lifelong friends dedicate one month each year to playing “tag,” the old grade-school classic most kids leave on the schoolyard— right around the time they stop believing that girls have “cooties.” If that sounds like the setup for the ultimate man-child comedy, you wouldn’t be far from the mark, although “The Hangover Part IV” this is not. And yet, nestled amid all the runaway immaturity of this loosely reality-based laffer, “Tag” delivers the compelling case that anything that manages to keep a bunch of childhood buddies in contact over the course of more than three decades can’t be all bad.

Lifelong friendships are always a tricky thing to condense into a tidy frame. Sometimes people are brought together by years of complex struggles or a harrowing series of shared challenges, encapsulating the very nature of the human condition. Other times, someone writes a story about an ongoing, 30-year game of tag.
Following the exploits of a group united by their annual, month-long challenges to catch each other unsuspecting in various places across the country, “Tag” faces the added challenge of finding the chemistry in a tight-knit friend group played by recognizable screen comedians. The result is much like the game it’s built around: fun for what it is, and equally disposable.
Ed Helms stars as “Hoagie” Malloy, a put-together family man who, along with wife Anna (Isla Fisher), reinvigorates the yearly challenge among his compatriots. Gathering bottomed-out stoner Chilli (Jake Johnson), high-flying CEO Bob Callahan (Jon Hamm), and insecure...

Superheroes are back to save the day — and the box office.
“Incredibles 2” will give the North American box office a nice boost this weekend as the Disney and Pixar animated superhero sequel is looking at a broad range between $125 million-$140 million when it bows at over 4,400 locations. A launch near the higher end of that estimate would earn the highly anticipated adventure the best opening weekend ever for an animated film.
That title currently belongs to another Pixar sequel, “Finding Dory.” The followup to 2003’s “Finding Nemo” launched in 2016 with $135 million and went on to pick up $486 million in North America and over $1 billion worldwide.
Like “Finding Dory,” enthusiasm has been strong for the sequel, which comes 14 years after its predecessor, “The Incredibles.” Early reception seems strong, as the film already boasts a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s on par with the acclaimed first film’s 97% average.

After its box office winning streak was snapped with “Solo: A Star Wars Story” flopping, Disney is turning to Pixar and “The Incredibles 2” to get back to its record-breaking ways.
And some box office trackers think that new records may indeed be set, as the sequel to Brad Bird’s superhero film could post the best opening weekend for an animated film in movie history. Pixar currently holds that record with “Finding Dory,” which made $135 million two years ago. Trackers are split on whether “Incredibles 2” will beat that, with some having it come just short at $125-130 million while others expect the new record to be set at $145 million.

After the summer box office ratcheted down following the $125.5M opening of Fox’s Deadpool 2, Disney is looking to make up for any shortfall created by its Memorial Day weekend fumble Solo: A Star Wars Story with the release of Pixar’s Incredibles 2, which is eyeing between $135M-$150M this weekend at 4,400 theaters.
Some tracking services have the sequel around $125M, but the confidence out there from rivals is that Incredibles 2 could feasibly beat Finding Dory‘s $135M opening, which is by all accounts, the current domestic record for an animated pic’s opening.

“Tag” director Jeff Tomsic revealed that Renner breaking his two arms on the third day of production was “not a great feeling” at the film’s world premiere held at the Regency Village Theater in Westwood. “But [Renner]’s such a hard worker and such a sweet guy that he came back only a few hours later and we just kept shooting,” he said.
To accommodate for Renner’s injuries, the first-time director said he had to completely rethink months of planning and pre-vising action sequences. Although, he found an easier strategy than forcing the CGI budget to go through the roof. “We had already started shooting a scene with him in short sleeves, so we had to put dots on his arm braces and then CGI his arms in a few shots,” he said. “But luckily, we had just begun, so we could put him in long sleeves for the rest of the movie.

Read our interviews with the cast of Tag right Here! It may seem farfetched to set a story around a long-running game of tag, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Tag, a new game-centric comedy from director Jeff Tomsic (Broad City). Based on a true story, the film follows that follows a group of friends, who have been playing an annual game of tag for 30 years. When the one that’s never been tagged (Jeremy Renner) threatens to retire from their elaborate game, the group’s shenanigans kick into overdrive in an attempt to stop him. I have to say that while this trailer has a bit of a tone problem, there is a bit of fun in seeing this real-life concept come to fruition. In case you were unaware, The concept for Tag is based on the Wall Street Journal article titled, “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It,” by Russell Adams.

Based on a true story (surprisingly), Tag – set for a June 15th release – shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing….
But he knows they’re coming and he’s ready.
Tag comes from was writers by Rob McKittrick (Waiting) and Mark Steilen (Mozart in the Jungle) and is directed by Jeff Tomsic . The film features an ensemble cast led by Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher, Leslie Bibb, Hannibal Buress, with Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner.

For those of you who are upset about Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye not getting enough love in the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War, don't worry, he's all over the trailer for his new comedy Tag!
The film is based on a true story about a group of friends played by Renner, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, and Ed Helms, who have been playing a 30-year game of tag. Jeremy Renner is the one person in their group that has never been "it"; he has never been tagged. After he announces his retirement from the game, his friends give one last shot to try and tag him.
The movie looks incredibly silly, but it also looks like it could be a fun comedy. I love the cast that they brought together for the film, and I'm sure it will deliver the entertainment. Jeremy Renner has always played a badass in...
