There were at least three reasons I was inordinately excited to see the movie entitled Amphibious: Creature of the Deep:
1. It's a movie about a giant sea monster, which is probably my very favorite type of movie. 2. The director is Brian Yuzna, whom horror freaks will remember from his collaborations with Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dolls) or from his time spent in Spain on flicks like Rottweiler and Dagon. 3. The movie was made in Indonesia, which is where The Raid comes from, and I was hoping that this monster movie would mark another firm step forward for the nation's genre output. Unfortunately for all involved, Amphibious has a lot more assets on the page than it does on the screen, and while you've probably seen worse monster movies during a random Saturday night visit to the SyFy Channel, there's no denying that this is a cheap, chintzy, and ultimately tiresome little export.

It's been a little over a month since we last reported that Brian Yuzna’s Amphibious: Creature of the Deep was hitting DVD this fall. And while you'll still be able to catch the giant sea scorpion flick this October, you'll have to do it via the digital platform of your choice.
Synopsis:
Marine biologist Skylar Shane hires an expert charter boat captain, Jack Bowman, to help her find prehistoric life form samples in the north Sumatran Sea. During the expedition they meet a gang of smugglers headquartered on a fishing platform in the middle of the sea with a young orphan boy among them who begs Skylar to take him away. She is determined to help him, not knowing what lurks beneath the dark inky water, waiting to surface.

In this day and age marked by arguments as to why and how 3D technology is good for things other than making sticks poke audience members in the eye there is something inherently smile-inducing about a film using 3D for the sole purpose of making sticks poke audience members in the eye. Because, let's be honest, that sort of tricksterism always has been and always will be a major drawing point for the technology. It's a big part of what we go to these films for and the promise of exactly that is a major part of the drawing power of Bride Of Reanimator director Brian Yuzna's Amphibious 3D.
For the uninitiated, here are the basics. Amphibious 3D is Yuzna's first directorial effort in five years and his first since his production contract wrapped up with Spain's Filmax leading him to pack up his Spanish production shop and relocate to Indonesia.

A year ago, Brian Yuzna ( Bride of Re-Animator ) announced he was producing a trio of flicks on the cheap and in Indonesia under his Komodo Film banner. Oh, and let's not forget they'd be in 3-D. Yuzna had a good run at Fantastic Factory (in Spain) and Komodo was to be his latest production outfit. The first film in the can is Amphibious 3D which he directed and co-penned with John Penney. Celsius Entertainment is taking the film out to potential buyers at the American Film Market and to the left you'll see their sales art.
