Fiona Apple Releases New Song “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)”: Stream
Image
Fiona Apple has returned with a new song called “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)” that highlights the devastating impact of the cash-bail system on women, girls, and, in particular, Black mothers.

According to a press release, “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)” was inspired by Apple’s time serving as a court-watcher in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The song was produced Zealous and Special Operations Studios, and created in support of the Free Black Mamas Dmv initiative.

As Apple explained, “I was a court watcher for over two years. In that time, I took notes on thousands of bond hearings. Time and time again, I listened as people were taken away and put in jail, for no other reason than that they couldn’t afford to buy their way free.”

She continued, “It was particularly hard to hear mothers and caretakers get taken away from the people who depend on them.

Police in Brasil say they thwarted a bomb attack planned during Lady Gaga’s massive concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.

The alleged plot involved a group promoting hate speech against the LGBTQ+ community. “The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails,” police said in a statement (via Reuters).

The suspected leader of the plot was arrested in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul for illegal possession of a firearm, while more than a dozen search and seizure warrants were carried out across the states of Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo. The operation was reportedly based on a tip from Rio de Janeiro’s state police intelligence, which uncovered digital cells encouraging violent behavior among teenagers using coded language and extremist symbolism.

Phish Cosplay Seinfeld in the Latest Brilliant Sketch from Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney
Image
If you haven’t yet tuned into an episode of John Mulaney’s weekly Netflix variety series Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, a sketch featuring the members of Phish dressed as the cast of Seinfeld might seem like a hallucination straight out of a jam band-inspired acid trip. But it’s actually par for the course on Mulaney’s talk show, which has quickly become one of television’s most captivating weekly watches—largely due to the wacky, absurd sketches dreamed up by Mulaney, with Netflix picking up the tab.

In the case of this week’s episode, Phish’s Trey Anastasio dressed as Jerry, Mike Gordon as George, Jon Fishman as Elaine, and Page McConnell as Kramer attempted to act out a Seinfeld scene. Lorde Announces New Album Virgin
Image
Lorde has officially announced her new album: titled Virgin, it’s set for release on June 27th via Republic Records.

The project marks the New Zealand artist’s fourth album to date following 2021’s Solar Power. Speaking about Virgin in a message to fans, Lorde wrote,” The color of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masculine.”

“I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free,” she added.

In keeping with this theme, the album’s cover artwork features an X-ray scan of a pelvis with an Iud visible.

Billy McFarland Is Selling Fyre Fest
Image
Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland says that after two unsuccessful attempts at staging a physical festival, he’s putting the brand for sale with the hopes that a new group will “execute the vision of Fyre in a transparent, grand, and expeditious manner.”

In his first public statement since the postponement of Fyre Fest 2 last week, McFarland said, “it’s clear that I need to step back and allow a new team to move forward independently, bringing the vision to life.”

“Giving control of the brand to a new group is the most responsible way to follow through on what we set out to do: build a global entertainment brand, host a safe and legendary event, and continue to pay restitution to those who are owed from the first festival,” McFarland added.

Already, McFarland has sold some of the brand’s IP to documentarian Shawn Rech, who plans to leverage...

The Who Re-Hire Drummer Zak Starkey Days After Firing Him
Image
The Who have reversed course and re-hired longtime drummer Zak Starkey, days after firing him following a round of concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Pete Townshend announced the news in a statement posted to the band’s website on Saturday. “[Starkey’s] not being asked to step down from The Who, there have been some communication issues, personal and private on all sides, that needed to be dealt with, and these have been aired happily,” he explained.

Earlier this week, The Who dismissed Starkey, son of Ringo Starr and their drummer of nearly three decades, over apparent “issues with the drumming” that occurred during the band’s concerts at Royal Albert Hall. Starkey subsequently confirmed the news in a statement to Rolling Stone, saying he was “surprised and saddened” by the band’s decision.

In his lengthy statement, Townshend provided a behind the scenes account of what led...

With No Hint of Irony, Fyre Fest 2 Accuses Mexican Officials of “Theft”
Image
Following news of its postponement, Fyre Fest 2 organizers are accusing government officials in Playa del Carmen of “theft.”

In a statement released to ticket-holders of the festival and members of the press, Fyre Fest spokesperson Nick Lowe accused government officials of pulling the rug out from under festival officials after they initially “approached us with a proposal we couldn’t refuse.”

Lowe alleged that, “The Playa del Carmen government introduced us to venues, hotels, and hospitality partners, all of which we signed and paid. The Playa del Carmen government issued permits from the Secretary General, Tourism, and Environment—all paid for. The Playa del Carmen government held a joint press conference alongside our venue. The Playa del Carmen government made public announcements on their official government Instagram and X accounts, expressing their excitement for Fyre Festival 2 to take place in Playa del Carmen.”

Wendy’s Roasted Katy Perry for Space Flight — Then Chickened Out
Image
Upon her return to Earth following her 11-minute sub-orbital voyage aboard Blue Origin, Katy Perry claimed that the flight had the unique opportunity to unify the country: “I hope they can see the unity that we modeled and replicate that and understand that we weren’t just taking up space, we were making space for the future.” Arguably, she was correct — though likely not in the way she intended — as the idea of a bunch of rich celebrities blasting into the upper echelons of the atmosphere at the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars, while millions of people both domestically and abroad struggle to pay their bills amid increasing economic uncertainty and international conflicts, proved to be universally rebuked by liberals, conservatives, and just about everyone else alike.

Even Wendy’s — yes, as in the fast food chain — mocked the flight. In a viral tweet responding to Perry’s successful return to Earth,...

Bruce Springsteen Unearths “Blind Spot” from His Lost Hip-Hop-Inspired Album
Image
Bruce Springsteen recently detailed Tracks II: The Lost Albums, a new box set containing seven previously unreleased albums recorded between 1983 and 2018 (pre-order here). Among those projects is the Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, which includes material that Springsteen recorded alongside his Academy Award-winning title track to the 1993 film Philadelphia. Today, he’s shared one of the tracks found on the album, “Blind Spot,” which can be streamed below.

Per a press release, the Streets of Philadelphia Sessions is considered his “loops record,” as it was recorded amidst a period of time wherein he was particularly interested in the rhythms of mid-1990s contemporary music, and particularly West Coast hip-hop. “Initially pouring over CDs of drum samples at his home in Los Angeles, Springsteen began making his own loops with engineer Toby Scott — which formed a rhythmic base he’d build on with keyboards and synthesizer,” the press materials note.

Springsteen originally...

Fyre Fest 2 Postponed: “New Date Will Be Announced”
Image
In news that will undoubtedly shock no one, Fyre Fest 2, Billy McFarland’s second ham-fisted attempt to stage a music festival after the first one landed him in federal prison for four years, has been indefinitely postponed.

According to an email sent to ticket-holders on Wednesday, the festival has been “postponed and a new date will be announced.” In the meantime, ticket-holders will apparently be issued refunds. “Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule,” the email notes.

News of Fyre Fest 2’s postponement is hardly shocking if you’ve been following recent developments. Since announcing the festival back in 2023, McFarland struggled to secure a location for the event. He initially planned for it to take place in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, only to relocate it to Playa del Carmen after local officials denied having any knowledge of his plans. However,...

SNL’s “Goth Kid On Vacation” Video Features Jack Black Singing My Chemical Romance
Image
Those awkward teenage years — when you were deep in your goth phase and your family decided to take a Caribbean vacation — served as the inspiration for a very funny music video on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. Michael Longfellow played said teenage goth, donning combat boots, a black trench coat, choker necklace, and eyeliner, as he begrudgingly accompanied his family to Jamaica. The sketch began with a classic reggae tune sung by Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim, but eventually transitioned into a parody of My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade,” with episode host Jack Black portraying the band’s frontman Gerard Way. Watch below.

Along with Black’s Flamin’ Hot Preparation H commercial and a bass potluck jam session, this was definitely one of the standout sketches from this weekend’s SNL.

Meanwhile, My Chemical Romance are back on the road this summer for their “Black Parade” stadium tour.

The movie will go back in time to tell the story of John Wick before the first film, as he completes the Impossible Task — killing all of his rivals in one night — in order to free himself from his obligation to the High Table and earn the right to be with the love of his life, Helen.

The animated feature will be produced by the John Wick team of Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, 87Eleven Entertainment’s Stahelski, and Reeves. 87Eleven Entertainment’s Alex Young and Jason Spitz will executive produce.

John Wick Is Back Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Image
Over four films, the titular assassin in the John Wick universe has traveled around the world, leaving the United States behind and globe-trotting to foreign destinations like Japan, Germany, and France. But soon, he’ll go on his biggest journey yet as he departs from live-action and throws himself full steam ahead into an animated journey. Today, during Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon, Adam Fogelson, chair of the studio’s Motion Picture Group, addressed the packed-out Colosseum in Caesars Palace and delivered the tremendous news, revealing that a John Wick animated prequel film was on the way. There are a lot of upsides to the beloved gun-fu franchise going down the animated road for a prequel project, with a major one being that Keanu Reeves will be able to voice the assassin — which he’s expected to do.

Picking up long before the events of the 2014 film thatlaunched the massive franchise,...

‘John Wick’ Sets Animated Prequel Film With Keanu Reeves
Image
The John Wick franchise is set to draw on its universe’s origins with a new animated prequel feature.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson announced Tuesday at CinemaCon that Shannon Tindle is directing an untitled animated movie from a script by Vanessa Taylor. Keanu Reeves, who stars as the franchise’s title hitman, is expected to voice the character, while longtime John Wick producer Chad Stahelski is also behind the project.

The new film will take place prior to the events of the first John Wick movie starring Keanu Reeves that hit theaters in 2014. The new project sees Wick completing the Impossible Task of killing his foes in a single night to fulfill his obligation to the High Table.

“In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless,” Fogelson said. “And there is no John Wick story fans are clamoring for more than the Impossible Task.

‘John Wick’ Animated Prequel Film in the Works at Lionsgate from ‘Ultraman: Rising’ Director
Image
John Wick lives. Lionsgate is in the works on a new “John Wick” movie, but the character will come back to the big screen for a prequel film that will also for the first time be an animated film, IndieWire can exclusively report. Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, is set to announce the film as part of its CinemaCon presentation in front of theater owners on Tuesday, April 1.

And it’s not for kids either. Expect the Wick movie to be as highly stylized, action-heavy, and aimed at mature audiences as any of the live-action films.

The untitled animated feature will flash back to before the events of the first “John Wick” movie from 2014 and will look at how Wick worked to complete the fabled “Impossible Task” that has been teased in the franchise. It will depict the ordeal that required Wick to kill all of his rivals in one night,...

Morgan Wallen Walks Off SNL Stage: “Get Me to God’s Country”
Image
Morgan Wallen’s appearance on Saturday Night Live ended awkwardly, as the country singer walked off stage during the show’s closing credits without acknowledging any of the show’s cast members.

After host Mikey Madison wrapped up the episode with thank yous, Wallen gave her a brief nod before walking straight off stage in front of the camera. Several cast members appeared visibly confused.

Shortly after, Wallen posted a photo to his Instagram Story of a private jet with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.”

It’s unclear what drew Wallen’s ire, though his pair of performances received a noticeably lukewarm reception from the studio audience compared to most other SNL musical guests.

Wallen already had a complicated history with SNL. His debut appearance in October 2020 was initially canceled after social media videos surfaced of him going to non-social distanced parties maskless and kissing random women during the pandemic.

Paul Thomas Anderson Reveals First Look at One Battle After Another Starring Leo DiCaprio: Watch Teaser
Image
Paul Thomas Anderson has offered the first look at One Battle After Another, his upcoming crime thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Benicio del Toro. The brief 20-second teaser (seen below) arrives ahead of a full-length trailer due out next week.

One Battle After Another marks Anderson’s first project since Licorice Pizza in 2021. The film is loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, marking Anderson’s second adaptation of Pynchon’s works following Inherent Vice in 2014.

Neil Young to Play Free Concert in Ukraine
Image
Neil Young intends to keep on rockin’ in the free world — Ukraine included.

Via his website, the legendary rocker has announced plans to play free a free concert in the war-torn country in the near future. Specific details — including a date and location — are forthcoming.

While the Trump administration has taken a harsher stance on Ukraine, falsely accusing the country of provoking Russia’s 2022 invasion, Young understands where the true blame lies. He previously described Russia’s invasion as “the crazy war of an old dying guy who wants to relive his life and make things better for himself because of mistakes he thinks were made 50 years ago . . . That’s a screwed-up mind. [Vladimir] Putin is receding into himself as he dies. He’s not leading. He’s only protecting Putin the Great.”

As for Trump, in an a recent blog post titled “Leader of the Free World No More,” Young wrote that,...
