Exclusive: Premiere Entertainment has picked up international rights to BFFs, a crime comedy starring Terrence Howard and Taye Diggs.

The film, written by Adam Rifkin and directed by Constantine Paraskevopoulos, is currently in post-production.

Germany’s Zdf Studios has teamed up with Iceland’s ACT4 to develop the Nordic crime thriller “Big Brother,” based on the award-winning debut novel ‘Stóri Bródir’ of Icelandic author Skuli Sigurdsson.

A tale of revenge and justice, “Big Brother” centers on a mysterious figure in black who, every full moon, viciously attacks a person before vanishing into the night. The victims, all unpunished sexual offenders, are carefully selected.

A detective and an investigative journalist team up to solve these crimes, while the story also unfolds from the perspective of this enigmatic assailant, who sees himself as an agent of justice for the victims failed by society.

Icelandic Political Drama ‘The Minister’ Greenlit For Season Two

Icelandic political drama The Minister has been greenlit for a second season and acquired by Viaplay in the UK and Germany. The show, which is commissioned by Iceland’s Ruv and four Nordic networks, stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) as Benedikt Ríkharðsson, the Icelandic Prime Minister whose medical condition threatens the stability of the government and the private lives of the team around him. After the dramatic finale of Season 1, in which he publicly reveals his bipolar disorder to the entire nation, Benedikt is back and this time he wants to change the country’s approach to mental health. Anita Briem (Salt and Fire) reprises her role in Season 2 as Steinunn, the woman behind husband Benedikt’s success and his political career. Cineflix Rights struck the deal with Viaplay for Season 2, having sold Season 1 across Europe and Apac.

Writer-director Tinna Hrafnsdóttir’s critically acclaimed Icelandic psychological-mystery drama “Quake” has sold to Juno Films for North America and the U.K. as well as to Njuta Films for Sweden.

British-French production, distribution and sales company Alief is presenting the film at the upcoming Cannes Marché du Film.

Anita Briem stars as Saga, a single mother fighting to keep her young son while trying to piece together her life after losing her memory. Afraid of being considered unable to take care of her child, Saga attempts to hide her state from others as she searches for answers and recovers long repressed memories.

“‘Quake’ is a taut mystery-thriller that masterfully spirals toward a cathartic, emotionally satisfying resolution,” said Elizabeth Sheldon, Juno Films’ president and CEO. “The stunning cinematography reflects a barren cold landscape that in turn reflects the emotionally frigid familial relationships in a film that keeps you guessing — until the very end — what is true.

For his sophomore feature, “Beautiful Beings,” playing in the Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama, Icelandic helmer-writer Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson returns to the subject of his prize-winning first feature “Heartstone” (2016): fraught adolescent friendships and difficult family lives. In “Beautiful Beings,” a horrendously bullied youth forms a tentative rapport with a trio of tough outsiders. Together, the boys experiment with aggression and violence, but also learn about loyalty and love.

The action is captured with a shooting style that blends naturalism and lyricism, using mostly first-time young actors. To find his characters, Gudmundsson put out an open casting call across the country. “We wanted to get every kid in Iceland that has a dream of being in a film to show up. A lot of kids auditioned and we managed to find our main cast,” he says.

But creating the performances he wanted required work, Gudmundsson admits. “The rehearsal period was long.

U.K.-French sales agent, distribution and production company Alief has picked up worldwide sales for Icelandic haunting mystery title “Quake,” which will have its world premiere Nov. 20 at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Variety has been given access to the trailer.

The project was selected for Toronto Film Festival Filmmaker Lab in 2017, was selected to the final round at Sundance Institute Development Track in 2018, and the film was picked by Toronto Film Festival for its Industry Selects program this year.

It is the feature debut as writer and director of actor Tinna Hrafnsdóttir, whose acting credits include “Margrete – Queen of the North,” “Valhalla Murders” and “The Minister.”

The film, based on the novel “Grand Mal/Quake: A Novel” by Audur Jonsdóttir, stars Anita Briem, and Edda Björgvinsdóttir. It is produced by Hlín Jóhannesdóttir of Ursus Parvus.

We spotted The killer drone at The Arch, St. Louis University, Union Station, The Art Museum, The History Museum, The Bevo Mill, The Ferris Wheel, The Fox Theater, Grandel Square, Anheuser Buch Brewery, Art Hill and in front of the St. Louis Statue. We’re not sure where it went from there, but we’re pretty sure death and carnage followed!

Journey to the Center of the Earth was released in 3D in theaters and on anaglyph 3D (with those lovely red/green glasses) on Blu-ray and DVD back in 2008, but this release is for the better Blu-ray 3D.

Based on the novel by Jules Verne, the 2008 science-fiction movie stars Brendan Fraser (Furry Vengeance) as a scientist who, with his nephew (Josh Hutcherson, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant), traces the last journey of his missing brother. They travel to Iceland and find a guide (Anita Briem, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night), but after getting trapped in a cave, they fall into a hole that leads them to a lost world in — you guessed it — the center of the Earth.

Directed by Eric Brevig (Yogi Bear), the PG-rated action adventure film Journey to the Center of the Earth grossed $101.7 million when it was in theaters.

A pleasant, if not particularly distinguished or memorable, diversion. The word that singularly best describes Dylan Dog is “almost”. The proceedings are amusing , but if the pacing had been tighter Dylan Dog would have been much more exciting and fun. Brandon Routh makes for an alright hero, but he is never really given all that much to do. Routh gets to engage in plenty of action, but is never given any action sequences that really showcase him well. He is never given that big emotional scene that makes it so that his character resonates with viewers.

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night is probably one of the most lazy films of 2010. I make fun of terrible low-budget horror and action films all the time, but these films did not have the advantages of Brandon Routh or Taye Diggs in leading roles. Most of these movies went straight to DVD and never expected audiences to shell out $12 for a ticket. Dylan Dog: Dead of Night had the advantages of a known property and fairly big-name leading actors, but the product they turned out would be more at home on the SyFy channel than in movie theaters.

I think most of us can agree that, judging by the trailers for Dylan Dog and the poor box office turnout, viewing this silly monster murder mystery was probably best saved for DVD. The DVD was released last week and it was time to see if it could be better than I thought. I remained optimistic. I believed that, just maybe, Brandon Routh could be involved in an entertaining film and redeem himself after the unfortunate Superman reboot.

I wondered if this might be an action horror film in major release that rises above what it seems. What it seemed like was a silly noir detective story with a big budget gloss and monsters thrown in for good measure. Low and behold that is exactly what it is. It's not as bad as the universal panning by critics or the huge box office bomb would suggest, but...

I first encountered the legend of Dylan Dog back when I was trying to cover foreign comics while at Comics Scene and then wrote about the film adaptation a while back over at Famous Monster of Filmland. A Pi in the world of things that go bump in the night sounded like a lot of fun. That the Italian comic has been running for decades also spoke to its creative spark and the genius of Tiziano Sclavi. Then I saw that this was going to Brandon Routh’s third film based on a comic book and figured he was 1 for 2 so far (entertaining in Scott Pilgrim, not served well by Superman Return’s lousy script) and might improve his average. He had certainly improved as an actor, as witnessed by Fear Itself and his recurring role on Chuck.

I have never seen a Blu-ray with zero special features before. This bare bones release of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night just goes to show how much faith was lost in the product after its meager showing with audiences ($1.2 million domestic gross) and critics (a 3% Rotten Tomatoes score). They only even bothered attaching one trailer (Season of the Witch) to the Blu-ray, yet we still get one of those digital copy promos -- on a disc that doesn't even come with a digital copy. Explain that one to me. "Well this movie failed, so we didn't even bother. But there's a 95% chance you'll get one the next time you drop $20 on a Blu-ray. Thanks for the purchase!"
