The first trailer of Ironheart is finally here after a long wait. Now, we will finally get to know what happened to Riri Williams after her feats in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The trailer confirms that the upcoming miniseries will focus on Williams’ return to Chicago and how she gets entangled in a mysterious journey with Anthony Ramos’ Parker Robbins, aka The Hood.

The Hood is one of the most notable supervillains from Marvel Comics. Parker Robbins is an interesting addition to the MCU’s supernatural side as he gets his powers directly from Dormammu and the Dark Dimension.

I Was A Fashion School Serial Killer was the best comic book of the week
Brian K. Vaughan at an event for Paper Girls (2022)
Image Comics books provide something that Marvel and DC can’t. They give writers and artists the ability to create something with their voices without a lot of restrictions. Sure, sometimes, it’s a story with licensed characters like Transformers and G.I. Joe that connect to something bigger. In their case, it's the Energon Universe. When that happens, the heroes and villains must stay close to the personalities they're known for. However, the new stories are deeper and more adult than comic book fans are used to seeing.

The other kind of Image comics come in the form of original stories. The Deviant by James Tynion IV and Saga by Fiano Staples and Brian K. Vaughan are prime examples. This week, a new miniseries called I Was A Fashion School Serial Killer was published. It was the best new comic book of the week, and it has the potential to...

Image
Exclusive: Sony Pictures Entertainment has fallen hard for Love Everlasting. The film adaptation of the comic book series written by Tom King has Room helmer Lenny Abrahamson attached to direct and Jane Goldman writing the script. Emma Watts and Element’s Ed Guiney are producing.

King, the co-creator/EP of Lanterns and whose comic book work is the basis for WandaVision and the upcoming Craig Gillespie-directed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, co-created the Love Everlasting comic series with illustrator Elsa Charretier. Madame Web Star Sydney Sweeney Set To Play The Lead In Legendary's Live-Action Gundam Movie
Image
We first learned that a live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie was in development way back in 2018 during the Anime Expo, and in 2021, we finally got an update when it was announced that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) would direct the project for Netflix.

Vogt-Roberts would later ways with the movie, and Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle was brought on to replace him. It's been pretty quiet on the Gundam front since, but we now have confirmation (Jeff Sneider first reported the news) that Sydney Sweeney is in final talks to play the lead role.

Plot and character details are currently under wraps.

Sweeney’s recent film work includes Madame Web, Immaculate and Ron Howard’s Eden. The highly in-demand actress also has a slew of other projects on the way, including AppleTV+ film Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore, the Freida McFadden adaptation The Housemaid with Amanda Seyfried, Colman Domingo’s...

10 comic book heel turns that would impress John Cena and The Rock
Image
It’s been over a week since John Cena shocked the world and gave Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson his soul. This was supposed to be a farewell tour for one of (if not the) best professional wrestlers ever. More than that, he was someone that kids looked up to. Now, those kids have kids and they’re seeing their hero go Anakin Skywalker and embrace the dark side of the Force.

Changing from a baby face (hero) to a heel (villain) happens often in wrestling, but it's shocking in comics. It usually means the balance of power in the universe shifted. For example, one of the most famous was Superman becoming a tyrant during Injustice. Comic book fans have seen alternate realities where The Man of Steel has switched sides, but this happened on a bigger scale. Even if you don’t read comics you know about it because it...

Who Is Nico Minoru In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man? Her Marvel History, Explained
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" to follow.

Who is Peter Parker's best friend? Harry Osborn? Ned Leeds? Johnny Storm? According to the new animated series "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," it's — Nico Minoru? If you're a casual Marvel fan, you might be thinking: who? Now, Nico is an established Marvel character, but not one who is usually connected to Spider-Man. So why use her? And what can her role in the series so far answer about that?

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at least not the so-called "Sacred Timeline." As executive producer Brad Winderbaum has explained, putting the show in the MCU continuity would've been too restrictive.

That said, the show is still using the MCU as a foundation. Peter (Hudson Thames) and Aunt May (Kari Wahlgren) are drawn to resemble Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei,...

Why Watchmen Creator Alan Moore Hates The 'Graphic Novel' Label
Image
2024 saw DC Comics yet again trot out "Watchmen," this time as a two-part animated film. First debuting in 1986, "Watchmen" is the beloved superhero murder mystery comic created by writer Alan Moore (who infamously has no interest in any "Watchmen" adaptations) and artist Dave Gibbons. It's also the one superhero comic that it's broadly acceptable for literary critics to enjoy -- so much so it spawned a new term for the comic medium: "graphic novel."

The term goes back a bit further, such as the Marvel Graphic Novel line (begun in 1982). These longer (and more expensive) than usual comic issues told a standalone story. They also tended to be darker than contemporary Marvel comics. Take the "X2" inspiration "X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills" (by Chris Claremont and Brent Anderson) where the X-Men battled a televangelist and religious bigotry, and "The Death of Captain Marvel" (by Jim Starlin), where the cosmic hero succumbed to cancer.

Lost Explained Its Biggest Island Mystery With an Easter Egg That Most Fans Missed

Quick Links Charlotte Is A Clear Nod to C.S. Lewis Charlotte's C.S. Lewis Connection Was the Perfect Hint At the Nature Of the Island

ABC's Lost took inspiration from many things -- from movies to philosophy, and, of course, from iconic works of literature. Over its six-season run, Lost used several famous novels to help further its plot or add context to moments that many would have deemed confusing had they been unfamiliar with the callback. Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Of Mice and Men, and Lord of the Flies are just a few notable examples that Lost included to help flesh out the sprawling narrative unfolding in front of viewers' eyes.

One of the major themes in Lost is "time," with the events of the show spanning centuries and, oftentimes, out of order. Lost even went so far as to completely ditch their initial character drama...

Marvel Is Switching Up Spider-Man's Origin Again Thanks to a Surprising Hero You Can't Guess
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1!

Before the Disney+ debut of Marvel's new Spider-Man series, an official comic book prequel surprisingly ties this version of his origin to another young Marvel hero. Though a few iconic characters have been teased to appear in the series, one of Marvel’s Runaways, Nico Minoru, is now integral to the new Peter Parker’s beginnings as a superhero.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 – written by Christos Gage, with art by Eric Gapstur – kicks off the animated series' prequel by showing Peter Parker’s fateful radioactive spider bite with an interesting twist, as it is revealed that this version of Peter’s superhero origin happens at the very moment that he’s meeting Nico Minoru.

The two form a closer friendship as the issue unfolds, and it’s clear that Nico will be an important part of this take on Spider-Man’s lore.

Warner Bros. Developed The Lord Of The Ring’s Latest Anime Film For A Reason Beyond Box Office Success
Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, and Luca Pasqualino in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024)
The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim has debuted to $4.6 million at the box office, according to a recent report by Variety. However, it was revealed that the film’s performance in the box office was not Warner Bros.’ primary focus.

The anime film, which was produced on a $30 million budget, was developed and rushed into production primarily to safeguard New Line Cinema’s rights to adapt J. R. R. Tolkien’s works.

The studio has held these rights through a licensing agreement with Zaentz Co. since the late 1990s. Though the specific terms of the contract are not public, it is believed that Warner Bros. is required to maintain active development and production of Tolkien-related projects to retain the rights.

In early 2022, Zaentz Co., which controls a portfolio of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit rights, reportedly began exploring a sale of its Tolkien holdings.

10 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows That Are Based On Books
Image
Science fiction is one of the most beloved and intriguing genres in film, literature, and television alike. The nature of sci-fi content often limits its portrayal in a visual medium. They typically include technology, scenarios, or futuristic concepts that would be impossible to display in a form other than the written word. Books have the unique ability to utilize the imagination of the reader and present stories that simply wouldn't work if presented on screen. With that being said, certain shows effectively turn their written source material into a thoughtful representation of the original story.

The most recent example of famous sci-fi literature-turned-television is Netflix's 3 Body Problem, which explores mind-blowing ideas across space and time. Given the show's popularity, Netflix is set to release a second season of the 3 Body Problem. Perhaps the most critically acclaimed sci-fi series of this nature is The Expanse, a thoughtful tale...

Forbidden Planet (1956)
Warner Bros. Developing a New Version of 1950s Sci-fi Classic ‘Forbidden Planet’
Forbidden Planet (1956)
One of all time classics of the science fiction genre, 1956’s Forbidden Planet is getting a modern day update from Warner Bros., Deadline has exclusively reported this week.

Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) is writing the screenplay, with Emma Watts producing.

Deadline’s report details, “For its forward-thinking themes, the film is considered a north star for science fiction writing and cinema that came after it. It has never had a big-screen remake — though James Cameron reportedly once considered it — partly because the rights were complicated and difficult to untangle.

“The studio and Watts finally got that major obstacle out of the way,” Deadline continues. “The former studio chief Watts has leaned into producing the big ambitious tentpoles she shepherded from the executive suites, and this has the makings to be one of those.”

Brian K. Vaughan writing Forbidden Planet remake

Fifteen years ago, there was even some talk about James Cameron directing the remake, and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski was working on the screenplay. Daryl Dixon season 3 is currently in the middle of production. The new season will premiere sometime in 2025. We don't know what awaits Daryl and Carol in Spain. The crew have been tight-lipped, as expected. When we asked director Daniel Percival what awaits us in Spain, we were simply told to "wait and see," which is totally a fair and expected response.

But on a more encouraging note, Norman Reedus...

"Locations Don't Interest Me": Walking Dead's Creator Explains Why the Original Series Never Went Beyond America
Image
In the zombie-ravaged comic book world of The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes and his band of survivors mainly moved between a select few locations, with most of their stories taking place in temporary homes that lasted up until the undead hordes arrived to tear it all down. Finding shelter in multiple cities and towns across various states, Ricks creator, Robert Kirkman, once explained why his characters never went beyond America, with his reasoning revealing exactly what his priorities were while writing his zombie epic.

Starting The Walking Dead in Ricks hometown of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Kirkman then brought him on a harrowing journey across post-apocalyptic America, dragging him into the abandoned city of Atlanta, through Washington D.C., onto the grounds of Alexandria, and even over to Ohio where the Commonwealth resided.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Made a Dark Change to an Iconic Piece of Marvel Lore
Image
For decades, Hugh Jackman has brilliantly brought the iconic Marvel Comics character Wolverine to live action, originally in the 20th Century Fox X-Men films and now in the MCU. But, as every comic book fan knows, his portrayal (and the movies themselves) offered a decidedly unique take on the character that made some notable changes from the source material. And now, one more can be added to that list, as Hugh Jackmans Wolverine made a dark change to an iconic piece of Marvel lore.

In X2: X-Men United: The Movie Prequel: Wolverine by Brian K. Vaughan and Tom Mandrake, readers are shown what Wolverine was doing right after he left the X-Mansion in the first film, and right before he came upon Alkali Lake in the second. As hes riding through Canada on Cyclops motorcycle, Logan is attacked by Sabretooth, who Wolverine (and fans) thought was dead after he...

"It Has an Inherent Problem": Marvel Editor Calls Out Fatal Flaw That Haunts a Beloved Hero Franchise
Image
Marvel editor Tom Brevoort has called out the fatal flaw in a beloved superhero franchise, going so far as to call it an inherent problem. The Runaways, launched in the early 2000s, quickly became a cult title, and before long, it was a breakout hit. Yet even despite a television show, the property has struggled to find its footing in recent years, and Brevoort has a theory as to why.

Brian K. Vaughan's other credits include Y The Last Man, Ex Machina and Saga; Adrian Alphona would co-create arguably Marvel's greatest teen hero: Kamala Khan.

Tom Brevoort, in his weekly Substack newsletter Man With a Hat, fielded questions from fans on a variety of topics. Brevoort had previously answered a question about Young Avengers. Fan Andrew Albrecht asked a follow-up question. Albrecht was curious if Brevoort had ever worked on Runaways, and if he was a fan of the concept.

Deadpool & Wolverine Did Sabretooth Dirty by Ignoring How Marvel Developed His Backstory Off-Screen
Image
When Deadpool & Wolverine brought back Tyler Manes Sabretooth, it finally gave fans a rematch that was decades in the making. Everyone who watched 2000s X-Men knew that a mere fall off the Statue of Liberty (even after a blast from Cyclops) wouldnt be enough to put Sabretooth down for good, yet he still didnt make another appearance until Deadpool & Wolverine. Well, actually thats not true, as Tyler Manes Sabretooth did return in a previous storyline, and Deadpool & Wolverine did him dirty by ignoring it.

In X2: X-Men United: The Movie Prequel: Wolverine by Brian K. Vaughan and Tom Mandrake, Wolverine is right where fans left him at the end of the first X-Men film. Riding Cyclops motorcycle, Wolverine is on his way to Alkali Lake to investigate the secrets of his past - and he isnt alone. Sabretooth has secretly been tracking Logan throughout his journey, and when Wolverine stopped for gas,...

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Got a Canon Rematch With Sabretooth Long Before His Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo
Image
The moment in MCUs Deadpool & Wolverine when the original live-action Sabretooth made a cameo appearance to challenge Hugh Jackmans Wolverine was one of the more exciting scenes in the whole film. Deadpool himself even made a big deal about their rematch, as it marked the first time these iconic rivals faced-off since their fight atop the Statue of Liberty in 20th Century Foxs X-Men. At least, thats what fans might have thought, but in truth, Wolverine and Sabretooth actually got a rematch in canon long before Deadpool & Wolverine.

In X2: X-Men United: The Movie Prequel: Wolverine by Brian K. Vaughan and Tom Mandrake, readers are given an official comic book tie-in storyline set between the events of X-Men and X2: X-Men United. In it, Wolverine is trying to unravel the mystery of his past, and Professor X gives him a location to investigate: Alkali Lake.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has been a huge success, and one of the most popular Walking Dead spinoff projects. In season 2, which premieres in September, Daryl will reunite with his friend Carol (Melissa McBride). And looking ahead to season 3, the duo foray across the border to Spain. Viva España!

Given the huge success of its first season, AMC promptly handed Daryl Dixon a two-season renewal, with more likely in the works. And, of course, Carol is on her way to France to join him. Reedus previously teased that this new season has the most epic finale in Walking Dead history.

Ironheart's The Hood Isn't Like His Comic Counterpart, Teases Anthony Ramos

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams is heading back to her hometown of Chicago in Ironheart, where she will reconnect with Anthony Ramos' Parker Robbins. Ramos recently opened up about playing Parker Robbins, a.k.a. The Hood, in Ironheart, who has been reimagined for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly at D23, Ramos revealed that Marvel Studios changed his character's backstory from the comics to be a native Chicagoan instead of a New Yorker. "Parker Robbins in the comics is from New York, but being able to flip his story and making him from Chicago, we made him from Humboldt Park, which has, obviously, a large Puerto Rican population," Ramos explained. "We created this whole backstory with his mom being from the Young Lords and raising him that way. Chicago plays a huge part in the identity of all of our characters and the identity of this show,...

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 Could Introduce a New Grimes
Image
Location is important to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The first season of The Walking Dead spinoff starring the titular Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) moved the zombie action from a post-apocalyptic United States to an equally post-apocalyptic France. The second season, which premieres Sept. 29 on AMC, will bring beloved franchise figure Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) over to L’hexagone to see how the French are faring. Now the show is set to expand its European ambitions even further. And that might have some fascinating implications for the franchise’s most iconic character: Rick Grimes.

During The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon panel at 2024 San Diego Comic Con, AMC announced that the show had been renewed for a third season that will take place in Spain. Production will begin next month and be based in Madrid, with location shooting planned in the Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia regions.

Wonder Woman Is Incredibly Weak to 1 Gotham Villain (They're Basically Her Kryptonite)
Image
Clayface defeats Wonder Woman by turning her back into clay. Clayface gains a power boost, and he even flies and creates lightning. Wonder Woman enlists Donna Troy's help to defeat Clayface, using a centrifuge to separate him from her clay.

There's no denying that when it comes to Batman's villains, none of them should be able to do anything to Wonder Woman. Diana has complete immunity to poison, so Scarecrow and the Joker wouldn't be able to do much, and her physical strength is far above Bane or Killer Croc's. But one Gotham villain can easily take her down: Clayface.

Wonder Woman #160 by Brian K. Vaughan and Scott Kolins features the surprising match-up of Clayface vs. Wonder Woman, and in an even more surprising twist, Wonder Woman completely loses. Clayface captures Diana and breaks Wonder Woman's body down into the original clay she was made from.

Clayface then gains an incredible power boost.

Superhero TV Was Long Overdue for a Character Like Gen V's Jordan
Image
In 2005, Runaways writer Brian K. Vaughan broke ground by introducing the Skrull Xavin, Marvel Comics’ first genderfluid character. Lady Loki would follow in 2008 and Mystique would be revealed to have fathered a child in 2023’s X-Men Blue: Origins #1, but Xavin was the first time the publisher portrayed a shapeshifter swapping genders as more than just convenience and part of their deeper identity.

Xavin is introduced as male, a prince betrothed to Runaways’ alien hero Karolina Dean in an arranged marriage meant to bring peace between the Skrulls and the Majesdanians. When Karolina offers to give the relationship a go in order to save lives but reveals that she is a lesbian, Xavin responds that for a Skrull “changing gender is no different than changing hair color” and assumes a female form.

Why Under The Dome Season 4 Isn't Happening
Image
Under the Dome ended after season 3, possibly due to declining ratings and increasingly negative reviews. The show pioneered a new type of summer TV programming and paved the way for other original summer series. Despite leaving the possibility open for another season, the show ended with a satisfying conclusion according to showrunner Neal Baer.

Under the Dome season 4 is not in the works, but the reason for the show ending is unclear. Premiering in January 2013 on CBS, Under the Dome is the only adaptation of Stephen King's 2009 book. The story depicts the small town of Chester's Mill that, one day, suddenly has a giant, impenetrable, invisible dome fall around it, separating the inhabitants from the outside world. While the United States government attempts to break its way in, the citizens of the town begin to compete for dwindling resources as tensions rise and panic takes hold.

‘Karate Kid’ Writer Rob Lieber Signs With UTA (Exclusive)

The writer was previously at Verve. That agency, however, underwent an internal battle amongst partners that went public, leading to the ouster of one of the founding partners. ‘Masters of the Air’ Co-Creator John Orloff Signs with UTA (Exclusive)
Image
John Orloff, the co-creator of Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air, has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.

The move comes after Orloff signed with Verve for representation in January, the same month his high profile and high priced war drama launched. However, in February, the agency became embroiled in an internal battle amongst partners, resulting in the ousting of founding partner Bill Weinstein. Several lit clients were caught up in the churn. Brian K. Vaughan, the comics author and screenwriter, also switched agencies and signed with UTA in March.

Orloff adapted the acclaimed memoir by Mariane Pearl, A Mighty Heart, into a 2007 drama that starred Angelina Jolie and counted Brad Pitt as among its producers. He earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for best first screenplay for his script.
