As fans of Suzanne Collins' wildly popular win-or-die YA book series will be well aware, last month saw the release of Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, a new prequel novel centred around fan-favourite District 12 tribute-turned-mentor Haymitch Abernathy. Now, with Games filmmaking veteran Francis Lawrence's cinematic take on the book just over a year and a half away, this week we've been learning who'll be volunteering as tribute for the franchise's latest big screen outing.

This past March, author Suzanne Collins continued to delve into the "Hunger Games" universe by dropping the novel "Sunrise on the Reaping," a story that takes place about 24 years before the original "The Hunger Games" novel. It chronicles the tale of 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, showing how the character won the 50th Hunger Games (aka the Second Quarter Quell), putting him in line to become the mentor figure to Katniss Everdeen in the original trilogy of novels and the four initial "Hunger Games" movies. After the initial trilogy of Collins' novels, the book is the second consecutive prequel novel, following 2020's "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."

Letts will play Cyrus Trask, while Plimpton will play Faye, Hinds will play Samuel Hamilton, Zada will play Cal Trask, and Anders will play Aron Trask.

Based on the John Steinbeck novel of the same name, the series is said to “explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames (Pugh).”

Production on the seven-episode series is now underway in New Zealand. In addition to writing, Zoe Kazan serves as executive producer and co-showrunner. Her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the original film adaptation starring James Dean. Jeb Stuart serves as co-showrunner and executive producer as well.

After previously featuring opposite Zendaya in one of the steamiest movies of the year, one Challengers star has officially signed on for his next project. A new report from Deadline revealed that Mike Faist has joined Florence Pugh and Christopher Abbott in the cast of East of Eden, the TV remake of the 1955 movie starring James Dean. East of Eden (both the film and the upcoming series) is based on the novel of the same name by John Steinbeck, the legendary author who passed away in 1968. Hoon Lee has also joined Faist, Pugh, and Abbott in the cast of East of Eden, which Jeb Stuart will showrun. Zoe Kazan has been tapped to write the series and will executive produce alongside Pugh, who also served as a producer on her 2023 flick with Morgan Freeman, A Good Person.

While Florence Pugh is teaming up with a group of supervillain misfits for Marvel Studios’ upcoming closer to phase five, Thunderbolts*, she will also be gearing up for a Netflix drama that’s based on John Steinbeck’s literary classic, East of Eden. The Hollywood Reporter has unveiled that the streamer has given the go-ahead to a seven-episode limited series based on the 1952 novel. The book was previously adapted for a 1955 movie, which was directed by Elia Kazan and featured the iconic James Dean in his first lead role.

Elia Kazan’s granddaughter, Zoe Kazan, is set to adapt the novel into an episodic show and will serve as co-showrunner along with Jeb Stuart, known for projects like Die Hard and Vikings: Valhalla. Pugh will be joined by Christopher Abbott, as well as Mike Faist, who is playing the role Dean had in the film adaptation, and Hoon Lee will also starring.
