Review: Adaptations are always tricky, let alone trying to adapt something like a character from YouTube. Yet somehow Andrew Bowser’s Onyx the Fortuitous works really well in the narrative here. Sure, there are going to be people that are driven crazy by his delivery but I found myself oddly charmed by it. And it doesn’t hurt that there’s a spectacular cast surrounding him that provides plenty of hilarity. I would hope that most know what they’re getting into when it comes to something called Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. But you never know.

Jack Black is looking back on his experience on the set of School of Rock.
The 54-year-old actor starred in the 2003 hit with a much younger cast. In it, he plays a substitute teacher who introduces music to the classroom.
In a 20-year retrospective, Jack explained why he was nervous about filming the project. One of his castmates also recalled a time that he apologized to all of the parents and their children on set.

“In retrospect, it seems ridiculous, because I’m such an immature idiot that it was a perfect match to be with a bunch of kids,” Jack told Rolling Stone. “We had a blast — horsing around and making jokes and making fart noises in between takes.”
Co-star Jordan-Claire Green chimed in to recall an experience with Jack.

Twenty years on, School of Rock remains one of the most fun, beloved movies of the early part of the 2000s. But it got off to a tough start, as Richard Linklater recently revealed that he had to fire one of the original child actors on School of Rock for having a massive ego.
In a new oral history published in Rolling Stone, Linklater said that School of Rock got off to a rough start before cameras even rolled, as the original Marco (eventually played by James Hosey) was upset about his lack of lines. “I shouldn’t even be saying all this publicly.… It was in rehearsals. There was a kid who wasn’t with the program, so there were tough decisions to be made. I think he wanted a bigger part.”

Rolling Stone magazine celebrated the 20th anniversary of “School of Rock” with a new oral history in which many of the child actors from the Richard Linklater hit film opened up on the tough years they faced after the film’s blockbuster release. The Jack Black-led comedy was a box office hit in 2003 with $131 million worldwide, and it’s widely considered a bonafide comedy classic. Imagine going from Hollywood sensation back to high-school or middle-school teen. That was the reality for many of the “School of Rock” cast.
“It was tough. I came back to school, and I was like a three-headed freak, basically,” said Joey Gaydos Jr., who played lead guitarist Zack “Zack-Attack” Mooneyham in the film. “I came back with all this culture in my brain to a pretty one-horse town outside of Detroit. And I was looked at like a complete weirdo, and that was hard.

It was 20 years ago this month that Jack Black put on a bow tie, walked into a prep school, and told a bunch of fourth graders to get the Led out. His star turn as the lovable loser in Richard Linklater’s School of Rock helped the film gross nearly $20 million when it opened, breaking the record for music-themed comedies at the time. Over the years, it’s inspired a hit Broadway musical, a TV show, and a children’s book, and helped popularize actual School of Rock programs for...

Pure, unalloyed joy is harder to find in movies than you’d think. Heck, look at our big list of the best feelgood films ever_, which is re-released this week to celebrate its 20th birthday.
After weeks of increasingly elaborate deceptions and the kind of security operation the Stasi would be proud of, Jack Black’s Dewey Finn – the artist formerly known as Ned Schneebly (and even more formerly Schneeeebly) – has secretly used his fraudulent stint as a supply teacher to turn a gang of precocious-but-square kids into a crack team of rock ‘n’ roll delinquents. They’re discovered and Dewey goes back to being burnout loser Dewey – but the kids he’s fired up with a healthy disrespect for anyone over the age of 30 won’t let him drop out like that. They bundle him onto their bus, dash to the gig, and just about make their slot.

You’ve seen “Onyx The Fortuitous” on Youtube where he hijacks news reports with his odd personality and motormouth. Now he is coming to the big screen with his full-length feature Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, written, directed and starring Andrew Bowser, based on his internet-famous character also known as the “Weird Satanist Guy.” After a successful crowdfunding campaign to finance part of the production, the throwback horror comedy has been shown at Sundance, Glasgow FrightFest, and more recently, Fantasia Film Fest.
My first exposure to Onyx the Fortuitous was hearing his voice in the intro of Iron Reagan’s 12-second banger “Your Kid’s An Asshole”. Wanting to find the source of said sample, I stumbled upon his viral videos and wondered if this guy was for real and, if so, how did he manage to always be in the right place at the right time to get an interview?...

“School of Rock” was the brainchild of director Richard Linklater and screenwriter Mike White, but it turns out the movie’s development owes a lot to cast member Kevin Clark. The young performer starred in the comedy as drummer Freddy “Spazzy McGee” Jones. “School of Rock” star Rivkah Reyes revealed this week (via NME) that Clark came up with the movie’s ending on set when the film’s creative team realized what they were planning just wasn’t working. Reyes starred in the film as bassist Katie.
“The ending wasn’t landing,” Reyes said. “We tried one version of it where we win [the Battle of the Bands competition]. We tried another version of it where we lose and that’s it. It just wasn’t hitting. The team was just like, ‘What do we do about this ending?’ And Kevin is just like, ‘It’d be cool if like, we lost and then the audience started cheering,...

School of Rock may have rocked as much as it did partially thanks to late actor Kevin Clark. And ultimately, that's how it rolled. "The ending wasn't landing," Rivkah recalled in a TikTok video. "We tried one version of it where we win [the Battle of the Bands competition]. This is a bit of a hot-button issue since the truth is that some child stars have it rough and aren’t simply looking for publicity to kickstart a career that might have peaked when they were still young. With Rivkah Reyes, an alum from the movie School of Rock, it’s kind of hard to say that the substance abuse and bullying that was the result of Reyes’ fame was the only real problem since the fans are only ever made privy to parts of the story and not the whole thing. There’s no doubt that Reyes was probably bullied and

It's hard to believe that it's been ten years since Jack Black rounded up a group of kids from a prep school to form the School of Rock. The comedy is actually one of my favorite films from 2003, and it's certainly one of Black's best performances of the past decade, and likely his entire career. Well, Black and many of the kids from the film, including Miranda Cosgrove (Summer), Joey Gaydos Jr. (Zack), Robert Tsai (Lawrence), Kevin Alexander Clark (Freddie) and Rebecca Brown (Katie) recently had a 10-year anniversary reunion concert, and director Richard Linklater and writer/co-star Mike White were also in attendance. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a decade since “The School of Rock” hit theaters, and last night (August 29) Miranda Cosgrove and Jack Black helped to celebrate the film’s 10-year reunion.
The “Shallow Hal” star and the “iCarly” cutie looked to be having a blast as they mingled at the Austin Film Society-hosted shindig with Kevin Clark, Rebecca Brown, Mike White and Richard Linklater.
And of course, Miranda had her mobile phone handy to snap up plenty of pictures of her evening adventures.
Miss Cosgrove tweeted, “10 year School of Rock reunion! Sooo good to see everyone :) #greatmemories.”...
