ABC's The Rookie has, across its seven seasons, proven to be a successful venture for the network. The show harbored visions of expanding the franchise, first airing a two-episode backdoor pilot for The Rookie: Feds during The Rookie Season 4, and by September 2022, the spin-off officially premiered. While the original series follows Nathan Fillion's John Nolan, the spin-off stars Niecy Nash as Simone Clark, a guidance counselor who becomes the oldest trainee in the FBI Academy. While the show enjoyed decent ratings, the show was canceled by ABC after the first season. So, might we be seeing more of the spin-off's stars in the flagship series?
The flagship series has already invited some of Feds cast members, including Britt Robertson and Kevin Zegers, who play Laura Stensen and Brendon Acres, as guest stars. Showrunner Alexi Hawley already has some interesting angles to explore in its storyline, but he confirms that...

The Rookie always goes out with a big bang with its series finales, and Season 7 will not be any different. As the show races toward the sixth season's finish line, details about the season-ender have started coming out. Richard T. Jones plays Lieutenant Wade Grey, and he previewed what's on the menu for the final episode before the summer break. As is customary, there will be a cliffhanger involving one of the show's most prominent villains. “That’s the thing about [showrunner] Alexi [Hawley], man, he always leaves it on a little cliffhanger. You’re gonna feel a little annoyed because, like I said, some Monica [Stevens] mayhem is coming," T. Jones told TV Line. Like the Season 6 finale, this one enlists the help of their FBI siblings, recalling a cast member from the cancelled spinoff. "It’s a very big episode once again, so we’ve got the FBI, Felix [Solis] is...

At 5ft 2 ½ (158.8 cm) with a US shoe size of 6, Britt Robertson knows how to make a stylish statement on the red carpet. Whether she’s stepping out in elegant designer heels or rocking a youthful, edgy look, the actress always puts her best foot forward.
Britt Robertson looks noticeably petite in a bright yellow Christopher Kane Fall 2019 mini dress with voluminous skirts, standing beside Kj Apa, Shania Twain, and Gary Sinise at the I Still Believe premiere on March 7, 2020, at the ArcLight Hollywood (Credit: Faye’s Vision / Cover Images)
A self-proclaimed tomboy growing up, Britt once said, “I tried to play every sport. Rafi Gavron and Shiloh Fernandez have joined the ensemble of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” sources close to the actors confirm.
The Universal film’s previously announced cast members include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
Universal shared in December that the film “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time.”

The Netflix rom-com The Merry Gentlemen takes the typical Christmas movie blueprint and throws it out the window. Britt Robertson and Agent Carter alum Chad Michael Murray star in the film, which has a feel-good premise: successful dancer Ashley returns home to save her family's business. But there's an edge to the proceedings, as Ashley's plan -- and her budding relationship with local handyman Luke -- heats up very quickly.
Cbr spoke to Robertson and Murray about what drew each of them to The Merry Gentlemen. Robertson discussed what she loved about Ashley, while Murray detailed diving headfirst into the dance sequences required for the movie's all-male revue that gives the Magic Mike films a run for their money. Quick Links 'The Rookie: Feds' Greenlight and Cancelation Why Was 'The Rookie: Feds' Canceled? A New Entry in 'The Rookie' Franchise
The Rookie is one of broadcast TV's most underrated yet sturdy titles. It's among the few modern broadcast network dramas that's made it to that elusive 100-episode mark. In an era of cost-cutting and streaming domination, most new shows are lucky to get two or three seasons. Given that success, it's no surprise that ABC attempted to build the newest police procedural franchise around this Nathan Fillion-starrer.
The Rookie: Feds, starring Niecy Nash-Betts, launched in the 2022-23 TV season. But instead of being the next NCIS, Law & Order, or FBI-style spin-off, it was canceled after just one season. Obviously, one-and-done cancelations are all too common in the broadcast TV world. But this spin-off had a relatively big-name star in Nash-Betts, as well as a connection to The Rookie.

The entertainment industry is in the midst of a general contraction after last year’s SAG and WGA strikes, but there’s one sector that continues to thrive: holiday-themed TV movies! Granted, last year’s 116 has very slightly declined to a mere 110 in 2024, but that should still provide you with enough distraction to minimize your obligation to make conversation with loved ones.

Inherent in any Christmas movie is an element of silliness; it’s just the way of things. More often than not, magic is involved, and highly improbable love stories result in moving halfway across the country and giving up massive paychecks. But this year, Netflix really leaned in on absurdity for their Christmas offerings, and in the end, it helped the stars and creators of the films find the heart of it all.
The streamer has five new original Christmas movies this year, and rolled out one new film every Wednesday beginning in early November. In one, a sexy snowman comes to life and struggles not to melt while also trying to woo the woman who unwittingly brought him to life. In another, a small-town bar needs saving, so the owners’ daughter creates a Christmas-themed all male revue, because what better way to rake in cash?

A new spinoff series for “The Rookie” is in the works at ABC, TheWrap has learned.
The show, which is currently in early development at Lionsgate Television and 20th Television, will stick to the cop world found in “The Rookie,” unlike its previous spinoff series “The Rookie: Feds,” which centered on oldest rookie (played by Niecy Nash-Betts) in the FBI Academy.
Set in Washington state, the series will follow “a male cop who is stepping into a new phase of life in his second act,” per the official logline.
“The Rookie” creator Alexi Hawley will write the new spinoff series, which will be co-produced by Lionsgate Television and 20th Television. Hawley will also executive produce alongside “The Rookie” star Nathan Fillion as well as “The Rookie” EPs Michelle Chapman and Bill Norcross.
“The Rookie” is currently headed into its seventh season at ABC, which will debut Jan. 7 at 10 p.m.

Quick Links What Makes Nicholas Sparks Movies Good Why Is 'The Longest Ride' a Flop?
Britt Robertson has been warmly welcomed back to the rom-com genre, as her portrayal of Ashley in Netflixs new movie The Merry Gentlemen has sweetened up the end of the year. While she is no stranger to romance, this time around, she had to put on a thick jacket to tackle the cold of the Christmas season, even though Gilmore Girls Chad Michael Murray brought quite some heat to the stage with his Magic-Mike-inspired dance moves.
While Robertson might now be the next Christmas staple, her Rotten Tomatoes flop from a decade ago didnt do any good for her filmography. The romantic drama movie The Longest Ride, which was released in 2015 and is based on the novel of the same name written by Nicholas Sparks, stars Britt Robertson alongside Scott Eastwood.

The Christmas season is the season of nostalgia, there is no doubt about that. Cozy classic movies to get into the Christmas spirit, hot chocolates with tiny marshmallows warmly hugged by whipped cream, fuzzy socks, and ugly Christmas sweaters. It doesnt really get better than this. Or does it?

Netflix's new Christmas movie with a Magic Mike twist has become their No. 1 film just days after its release. Since 2017, the streaming service has been producing original Christmas movies, starting with A Christmas Prince. Over the years, the streaming platform has established itself as a top destination for holiday films, including The Princess Switch starring Vanessa Hudgens, and The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell, both in 2018. Last year, one of Netflix's most popular holiday movies was Best. Christmas. Ever!.
In 2024, several of Netflix's Christmas movies have already topped their Global Top 10 chart for the past three weeks. In the first full week of November, Meet Me Next Christmas ranked first on Netflix's Global Top 10 films with 18.1 million views, followed by Lacey Chabert's Hot Frosty the following week with 16 million views. There's no denying it: the holiday spirit is all over Netflix. This past week, three Christmas titles took over the list of top 10 most-watched movies of the platform, and two of them were in the top positions. Curiously, both titles bring some fire into the Holy Night with male characters that are pretty... comfortable in their Christmas attire. New title The Merry Gentlemen features Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Britt Robertson (The Rookie: Feds) trying to save a small-town nightclub by injecting some Magic Mike Christmas spirit in it. The movie debuted at #1 with 14.7 million views.

Christmas movies on Netflix are already hot — not frosty.
The streamer’s latest Global Top 10 list included three Christmas movies: Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson film “The Merry Gentlemen” debuting at No. 1, “Hot Frosty” slipping to number 2, and “Meet Me Next Christmas” with Christina Millian charting seventh in its third week on the list.
Forget Christmas — it’s not even Thanksgiving.
“The Merry Gentlemen” had 14.7 million views in the week of November 18, according to Netflix, while “Hot Frosty” with Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan had 12.7 million (it had 16 million views in its debut). “Meet Me Next Christmas” had 5.9 million views last week.
On the TV side, the new Mike Schur show “A Man on the Inside” starring Ted Danson crammed a lump of coal down “Arcane’s” chimney. “A Man on the Inside” debuted at number 1 with 6.9 million views, denying “Arcane” Season 2 the top spot. (The second “Arcane” season...

The main setting in Netflixs The Merry Gentlemen is The Rhythm Room, and this fun place raises questions about whether its a real bar or not. Netflixs Christmas content is already in full force, and among its movies is The Merry Gentlemen, directed by Peter Sullivan. The Merry Gentlemen has a mix of comedy, drama, and a touch of spice that seems to be the style for Netflixs 2024 Christmas movies, and it brings back 2000s heartthrob Chad Michael Murray, who stars alongside Britt Robertson. The Merry Gentlemen follows Ashley (Robertson), a Broadway dancer who is replaced after a misstep onstage.

Before the cold temperatures fully hit for the winter — at least, depending on where you are — Netflix is steaming things up with their latest Christmas movie offering, “The Merry Gentlemen.”
Now streaming, the film is kind of like a Christmassy “Magic Mike,” starring Chad Michael Murray. He plays a bar handyman named Luke who hates city girls, but begrudgingly agrees to dance in a male revue led by city girl Ashley (Britt Robertson), when she needs to save her parents’ bar (the one he works in). He quickly finds that dancing in the show opens him up in more ways that he expected, and the two fall in love.
Naturally, that show has a whole lot of Christmas music for the men to dance to, so we’ve rounded up all the tracks for you.

The goofiest, strangest Christmas movie of 2024 has already taken over Netflix, but it seems that audiences are in the mood for more festive cheer. According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, "The Merry Gentlemen" is the latest holiday-themed caper to sleigh ride to the top of the charts in the United States. In the film, Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson play the lovestruck protagonists who are united by holiday magic, but there's more to this one than mushy, feel-good romance.
At first glance, "The Merry Gentleman" echoes the spotlight-obsessed ageism that informs "The Substance," aka this year's most bonkers and bloody body horror movie. Coralie Fargeat's splatterfest movie tells the story of a TV aerobics instructor who gets relieved of her duties as the network wants a younger star on its screens. The key to most Christmas movies is a small town setting, usually traveled to by a character from a big city. And that’s true for “The Merry Gentlemen” too — but was it actually filmed in a small town?
Now streaming on Netflix, the movie tells the story of Luke (Chad Michael Murray), a handyman and carpenter who hates anything and anyone to do with the city. He thinks city girls — like Ashley (Britt Robertson) — are divas. But, when Ashley needs to save her family’s business, where Luke happens to work, he begrudgingly agrees to dance in a male revue that she directs and choreographs for Christmas.
See, Ashley is a former Jingle Belle. When she unceremoniously gets fired for being too old — yes, she’s in her 30s, practically ancient for a dancer, apparently — she returns home from the city to clear her head and help her parents.

Chad Michael Murray joins the various famous actors starring in Netflix's 2024 Christmas movies with The Merry Gentlemen, which is reminiscent of the actor's former TV show, Gilmore Girls. Murray starred as Tristan DuGray in The WB's successful comedy-drama series about the relationship between a single mother and her teenage daughter. Unfortunately, Murray only appeared in 11 episodes over the course of the first two seasons of Gilmore Girls before he exited the show.

Peter Sullivan’s “The Merry Gentlemen” (2024) is an entirely bland, uncharacteristic Christmas glossy romance. It’s silly, sporadic and hyper-contrived. The proceedings flatten in a lump of dullness. Charm is amped up between the characters when what exists instead is a complete lack of chemistry. The film is just hollowed out by an absence of specific texture. What could have been a frothy, harmless breezy watch quickly turns tiring, predictable, and terribly uncool. Nothing seems to propel it. It runs on empty. Marla Sokoloff’s screenplay collapses to triteness from the very opening stretch.
You wonder how deeply the makers have invested any thought in strands of the narrative. Conclusion springs easily that none of the considerations in fleshing out a lively, compelling story jump-start. The characters lack a zing in their interactions. Banality crowds the film. The Holiday season is upon us, and so is the season of unoriginal Christmas-themed rom-coms. With an obvious attempt to disassociate myself from The Grinch, I would like to add that I am quite the sucker for films that embrace the Yuletide cheers. Originality is not the first thing I look for when it comes to Christmas Movies, although it does not hurt when something uniquely joyful wanders into our path at this time of the year — like 2019’s “Klaus” for instance. T’is the season — for male strippers? Yes, actually. Yes indeed.
Netflix’s new Christmas movie “The Merry Gentlemen” is now streaming, telling story of a young dancer who comes home to find that her parents’ business — and thus, her whole childhood, essentially — may be going under. So, to help save it, she organizes a Christmas-themed male revue to pull in ticket sales.
The movie features a lot of familiar faces, but perhaps some new ones for you too. So, we’ve got you covered.
Here are all the major players in “The Merry Gentlemen.”
Netflix Ashley (Britt Robertson)
