BTS member Jimin has released a new solo single, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (feat. Loco),” along with a whimsical music video. The track, off the singer’s forthcoming LP Muse, was loosely inspired by the Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and features South Korean rapper Loco.
Jimin collaborated with producers Pdogg, Ghstloop, and Evan, who also contributed to his debut solo album, Face. Exclusive: In a move that ought to make fans of The Beatles twist and shout, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes and his Neal Street Productions have set plans to make four separate theatrical films — one on each of the members of music’s most famous and enduring band.
Mendes will direct all four of the films, and this marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
Mendes conceived this grand vision. He’ll tell interconnected stories, one from each band member’s point of view. The dating cadence of the films will be revealed closer to the films’ release. I’m told they are locking down writers quickly.
This is perhaps the most ambitious project Deadline has revealed exclusively since...

Veteran news producer Bill Geddie, who is best known for co-creating The View with Barbara Walters, has died. He was 68.
Cause of death was reportedly due to coronary-related factors.
“He was a big deal in TV, but at home he was an even bigger than life husband and dad,” said Geddie’s family in a statement. “He had a genuine love for television and entertainment. He would try everything and did it well — screenwriting, recording podcasts, playing guitar, writing songs, and loved a wide range of music from country to jazz. His favorite band was The Beatles, and he never thought he would have the opportunity to meet one of his personal heroes Paul McCartney in person, but his dream came true. The question wasn’t who did he meet, but rather who didn’t he meet?”

Ana de Armas is set to take the title role in 'Waiting for Helen,' a noir thriller directed by Kevin Pollak.
The Cuban actress came to prominence last year with her performance as holographic companion Joi in 'Blade Runner 2049,' opposite Ryan Gosling.
In 'Waiting for Helen,' she will play a waitress who may be an innocent patsy or a sadistic sociopath.
According to the official synopsis: "A detective tells a stranger the story of an attractive, young waitress named Helen, who befriended a customer and was asked to help prove her husband's infidelity. People end up dead."
The detective must then prove Helen is either innocent or guilty before the night is over, or her life will be.
Projects in the pipeline for de Armas include crime drama 'Three Seconds,' alongside Rosamund Pike; Danny Boyle's musical comedy based on the music of The Beatles; and 'The Night Clerk,' about a voyeuristic hotel clerk who becomes the subject of a murder investigation, which also stars Tye Sheridan and Helen Hunt.
Pollak, best known for his roles in 'The Usual Suspects,' 'A Few Good Men,' and 'The Whole Nine Yards,' will also star in the movie.

Fifty years on and it is time to remember one of the most innovative albums ever impressed onto wax. A delicious dark and jagged confection of nihilism and sulky sophistication unlike it's Liverpudlian counterpart Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, also now fifty, but which was sunny, funny and a bit vaudeville. Both represent a pair of wildly different bookends. The Velvet Underground and Nico was then a monumental, commercial flop, whilst the Beatles album sold in the millions. With half a century under its belt of shiny studded leather, the Velvets album now has an arc of influence that continues to reach into the hearts of those who wish to create a positive noise.
There is something incongruous about the weather, it is clammy and warm, and the sun is blinding, and yet the music we await really should be...

Happy Leap Day - and Leap Year, too, of course. And if you're one of the few who happen to be born on this day, happy birthday - finally! Leap Day is literally the rarest of dates on which anything can happen, but it's not without its merits and its not without its share of historical happenings. It's just that it gets a lot fewer of them, as a result of a cruel quirk of the Gregorian calendar. In case you've written this day off as just an extra 24 hours tacked randomly onto the shortest month, well here's a list...

Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones' unstoppable icon of sexual, six-stringed, blues-rock racket, has made no secret of his disdain for the Beatles' experimental music, specifically Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Speaking with Esquire, the guitarist said:"...the Beatles sounded great when they were the Beatles. But there's not a lot of roots in that music. I think they got carried away. Why not? If you're the Beatles in the '60s, you just get carried away—you forget what it is you wanted to do. You're starting to do Sgt. Pepper. Some people think it's a genius album, but I think it's a mishmash of rubbish, kind of like Satanic Majesties—'Oh, if you can make a load of shit, so can we.'" While a lot of people would disagree with Richards's assessment, it's funny that he likens Sgt. Pepper's to Their Satanic Majesties, the Stones' album that...

The third episode of Glee Season 5 will feature a moving tribute to Cory Monteith.
Why not the September 26th opener? Because producers had already been hard at work on a double dose of The Beatles when Monteith tragically passed away of a drug overdose.
Indeed, the premiere will be titled "Love, Love, "Love" and will feature Will tasking New Directions with covering songs by this iconic group; while the second outing will be titled "Tina in the Sky with Diamonds" after Tina is nominated for Prom Queen.
The series will then release an album, "Glee Sings the Beatles," which will feature all the Glee music from the opening two episodes.
It hits stores on September 24 and its track list has now been released online:

Forty-six years ago today, on Aug. 29, 1966, the Beatles played the final live concert of their careers at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Though many of the band's most timeless songs lay ahead of them, this Bay Area live date would mark the end of the Beatles as a touring entity. Freeing themselves from the burdens of live performance allowed the Liverpool foursome to become ever more daring and experimental in their studio work, which had already begun with the then-three-week-old Revolver, and would continue with the White Album, and, of course, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

John Lennon's former home has gone up for sale for £15 million. The late music legend wrote a number of tracks for The Beatles' eighth studio album, the seminal 'Sgt. Beatles fanatics might like to get their hands on the pricey property - which John purchased for just £20,000 on July 15, 1964 on the advice of the band's accountants Dr. Walter Strach and James Isherwood - as it was also featured in 1988 documentary film 'Imagine: John Lennon'. As well as writing Beatles songs in the house, named Kenwood, John is...

Instead, the film will include Benjamin's brand new renditions of cover songs that were favored by Hendrix, including tunes by the Beatles, Chicago bluesman Muddy Waters and more, according to Rolling Stone. The Hendrix estate, which controls the rights to the singer-guitarist's catalog, didn't authorize the film and therefore won't allow his songs to appear. Outkast's Andre Benjamin might not be able to perform any Jimi Hendrix songs in his upcoming biopic about the late great rocker, but that doesn't mean he won't have any tracks to sing in the movie. The folks behind "All By My Side" are getting around the copyright issue with Hendrix's estate by having Benjamin perform a series of covers Hendrix did of other bands' music to help make the movie as realistic as possible.
It turns out that this is actually not that big of a deal for the movie's creators. Producer Sean McKittrick told Rolling Stone that he never went to Experience Hendrix, the group that controls the copyrights for Hendrix's songs, because he knew that they likely wouldn't need to use them.
"This is the story of Jimi being discovered as a backup musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix," he said, saying...

There's been a lot of speculation over which songs/recordings the producers of All Is By My Side (the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic starring OutKast's André 3000, currently filming in Ireland) will or won't have at their disposal without the approved consent of the Jimi Hendrix estate. In what I can't help but think is a semi-conniving sidetrack to Experience Hendrix LLC's blatant disapproval of the production, it's been announced (via Rolling Stone) that the film (set during Hendrix's pre-fame years in London, roughly 1966-1967) will instead feature new recordings of André 3000 performing many of the songs Hendrix himself covered during that time period.

The Bee Gees made their mark on pop culture with their contributions to 'Saturday Night Fever.'

The disco-music world lost another soldier just days after its queen, Donna Summer, passed away. On Sunday, Bee Gees member Robin Gibb died after a long battle with colon and liver cancer.
The musical group composed of Gibb and his brothers Barry and Maurice reinvented disco in the late 1970s and became a mainstream success. But it was the inclusion of their music in the John Travolta film "Saturday Night Fever" that really put their stamp on pop culture.
The band of brothers composed and performed a majority of the songs on the soundtrack, and up until Whitney Houston's musical collection for "The Bodyguard," it was the best-selling soundtrack of all time. Producer Robert Stigwood had approached the Bee Gees after the film...

Adele's unstoppable 21, which is closing in on 9 million in sales in the U.S. (making our prediction that it will likely become the first diamond record in the states since Usher's 2004 Confessions set on the nose), just blasted past Michael Jackson's 1982 classic Thriller on the U.K. all-time bestseller list, according to NME.
21 is now the fifth best-selling album in the U.K. with staggering sales of 4,274,300 copies since its release in January 2011, besting Thriller's sales by about 500 units.
Her sales are not that far off the next two albums – Oasis's What's the Story Morning Glory and Abba's Gold: Greatest Hits – on the list either, though she's got a ways to go before she reaches the list's top two spots, which are owned by The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at #2 (5.04 million) and Queen's Greatest Hits at #1 (5.83 million records sold).

The classic 1968 animated feature "Yellow Submarine" showcasing music by the Beatles continues to be carefully restored frame-by-frame for a special DVD release May 28, 2012.
'Specialists' have been working for months to individually clean each frame of the film by hand, according to Beatles' holding company Apple Corps Ltd.
Automated software was not chosen for the restoration, because of the delicate nature of the hand-drawn artwork.
The musical fantasy depicts surreal cartoon versions of the Beatles and images from some of their psychedelic songs, with compositions including "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "Eleanor Rigby".
"Yellow Submarine", directed by George Dunning for United Artists (UA) and King Features Syndicate, is set in 'Pepperland', a paradise protected by "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
But the land falls under a surprise attack by the music-hating 'Blue Meanies' who seal the band inside a music-proof bubble, immobilizing the Pepperlanders and draining the countryside of color.

A hologram of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur stole the show at Coachella 2012, capturing the fascination of more than 100,000 fans at the annual music festival, and sparking a wave of reactions across Twitter and other social media.
Accolades for the high-definition projection, which performed as part of a live set by rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, lauded it for its impeccable details. The lifelike hologram captured 'Pac's athletic swagger and iconic swag as it romped around the stage, brandishing tattoos and Timberland boots.
Details like these are what allow audiences, even large ones like at Coachella, to suspend disbelief. Fortunately, such details happen to be the speciality of Av Concepts, the production company that so convincingly resurrected Tupac. As a small company in a competitive industry, it must to prioritize client relationships and adopt new technology to succeed -- and pave the way forward. Their latest win is just case-in-point.

For a while there in the early '90s, you couldn't escape hearing Aerosmith blasting out of every radio station from every car stereo across the nation. "Livin' On The Edge," "Crying," "Amazing" and "Crazy" marked a tremendous run for the band that was capped off by what is pretty much their last massive hit, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" for Michael Bay's "Armageddon" (and it should be noted the director also helmed the band's video for "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)"). That was nearly fifteen years ago. And as the band fades in relevance (seriously, look at that picture) -- assisted by Steven Tyler's recent stint on "American Idol" -- they are hoping they can take one last stab at summer soundtrack glory.

"This is my boomstick!" Bruce Campbell was already a full-fledged horror icon before reciting that unforgettable line from Army of Darkness, but this put the cherry on top. "Boomstick" was Campbell's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", his "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", his "Stairway to Heaven".

The Beatles famously argued that "all you need is love," but you'll need more than that to take home a piece of Beatles memorabilia.
A guitar amplifier used during the recording of the Beatles' Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band albums will be up for auction next month.
Reuters reports that the amplifier, used by the late George Harrison, who died ten years ago today, is expected to bring in between $80-$100,000 when it comes up for bid on Dec. 15.
The sale is being handled by Bonhams, a privately owned British auction house.
"Very few amps used by the Beatles have come to auction before, and to find one that was used on two such significant albums is truly rare and exciting," Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Consultant Stephen Maycock said in a press release announcing the upcoming sale.
Until earlier this year, the amp's owner didn't know it used to belong to Harrison.

London, Nov 5: An adapted sleeve for the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' has been named the world's rarest album cover.
The modified version was doctored from Sir Peter Blake's original artwork, and features the faces of music executives from Capitol Records in place of the Fab Four and other notable figures.
The rare album sleeve is said to be worth about 70,000 pounds and only about 100 were reportedly made.
It was created to celebrate the success of the record, which was released in June 1967, the BBC reported.
The artwork is one of five Beatles album sleeves to feature in the top 10, compiled.

Stella McCartney had the company of her famous friends last night to celebrate her 40th birthday. Kate Hudson brought Matt Bellamy along to Asprey House, near Hyde Park Corner, and Gwyneth Paltrow was seen booking it out to her car afterward, holding two celebratory mugs that read "Stella's 40th" and featured a picture of young Stella. Paul McCartney and his fiancée, Nancy Shevell, flew in for the occasion, as did designer Tom Ford. Bono, his wife Ali Hewson, and Kate Moss were out for the long haul. They accompanied Stella for some late fun at the Groucho Club. Stella was decked out for the festivities in a blue-sequined dress of her own design while Kate Moss paired her Azarro jumpsuit with one of Stella's bags. Kate Hudson chose to go with a number from Elie Saab. Kate Moss's own significant other, Jamie Hince, wasn't able to join in, since...

After much deliberation Disney have put a kibosh on plans to remake the 1968 Beatles’ animation Yellow Submarine.
The reboot - which was being developed by ImageMovers Digital and had Robert Zemeckis on directing duties - has ceased to a halt before filming even got off the ground.
Up until now casting talks had been in full swing with that Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell, all associated with the forthcoming project.
It has been suggested that the poor performance of Zemeckis’ Mars Needs Moms, is linked to the film’s sudden cancellation. But sources tell ComingSoon.net that the official decision was made quietly several months ago.
Based on The Beatles’ song, the original 1968 animation featured art direction by Heinz Edelmann.
The story is set in an undersea paradise inhabited by hippies whose harmonious lifestyles are protected by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Now that the Beatles have finally made their entry into the digital age (in an official capacity, at least), the band is enjoying a bit of a renaissance (one they seem to enjoy once every few years or so; the last one came during the release of "The Beatles: Rock Band" in 2009). Several of their albums shot right to the top of the iTunes sales chart, and you can expect at least one or two to make a major impact on next week's Billboard album sales chart (which now incorporates older titles into the new stuff). Any excuse to re-discover the Beatles is usually a good one, as they are the rare band with the work that actually backs up their lofty reputation (which is no small feat, considering that reputation is "greatest band ever") and their songs always seem to be revealing subtle twists and turns even five decades later.

John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for The Beatles' song "A Day in the Life" have sold for a staggering $1.2 million (800,000 pound sterling) at an auction in New York. Lennon's scrawled notes were purchased by a private American collector, who bid by phone at the Sotheby's sale on Friday, June 18.
The double-sided sheet of paper features the late star's edits and corrections, written in black felt marker and blue ball point pen, with annotations in red ink. Paul McCartney paid tribute to the late Jimi Hendrix during his headlining set at Britain's Isle of Wight festival on Sunday, June 13, admitting he was overwhelmed to learn the rocker was a big fan of The Beatles. The star regaled the audience with tales of his heyday with the Fab Four and, during one anecdote, he opened up about his little-known friendship with Hendrix in the 1960s.
He told fans, "I was really lucky to know Jimi and hang out with him a little bit in the 60s, he was a great guy. The biggest tribute we had from him was we (The Beatles) released (1967 album 'Sgt. With the upcoming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies I think it's safe to say that zombies are showing up everywhere. Horror, comedy, regency drama, and now a musical biopic of The Beatles. It's based on a novel by Alan Goldsher called Paul Is Undead and it will chronicle the story of an undead John Lennon as he leaves Liverpool, kills and reanimates a band, and then takes them on tour of terror across Europe and the States. This might sound like a joke but the production team behind it has some credentials after working on Erin Brockovich and Pulp Fiction.
The film will supposedly also feature cameos by Mick Jagger as England's greatest zombie slayer, Jesus Christ who admits they were bigger than him, and Yoko Ono as an Eighth Level Ninja Lord. I think we can expect her to literally break up the band. Now, if you think that pun is bad,...

"A Day in the Life" is the final track on the band's 1967 "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album and recently came 26th in Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 greatest songs of all time poll. Lennon's writings aren't expected to break the record for Beatles lyrics, set by "All You Need Is Love", which fetched $1 million in 2005.
The lyrics sheet previously belonged to Beatles' road manager Mal Evans. The song itself has a historical element for The BBC banned it from being aired due to lyrics that encouraged drug use.
