One of Netflix's biggest hit original series in recent years is "Outer Banks," which premiered in 2020 and ran for five seasons. Set in the scenic beach towns of North Carolina, the series blended coming-of-age drama, along with romance and action, elevated by its young, charismatic main cast. "Outer Banks" reinvigorated teen dramas and thrillers, but the genre has been a television staple for decades. With that in mind, there are countless shows like "Outer Banks" for fans looking to find the series' effective soap operatic stakes elsewhere.
From shows set in other picturesque locations around the country or featuring cool, stylish characters in a cycle of love and betrayal, there are plenty of teen dramas to watch. What links these series are young, impossibly beautiful main characters, often thrust into melodramatic storylines that grow increasingly ludicrous. For fans of the genre, they wouldn't have these teen and young adult shows any other way.

For the past 3 decades, sitcoms have somewhat guided the modern television arena, for better or worse. Whether it be F.R.I.E.N.D.S, That ’70s Show, Modern Family, or Himym, the uptake in comedy has been a steady sight to see for the current demography of fans and audiences across the board.

While television drama like Breaking Bad and Succession still make their mark on television, other shows like Barry, New Girl, and Hacks still manage to find a place among the modern topography of a realism-adhering audience.
But despite the existence of modern comedies, fans somehow still find a way to go back to the comfort of the older classics and the influence they have had in our years growing up.

The series follows a group of teenagers living in Newport Beach, Orange County, with Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) being taken in by the wealthy Cohen family. The four-season series followed Ryan as the fish-out-of-water, along with his best friend, Seth Cohen (Adam Brody), girl-next-door Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton), and her best friend, Summer Roberts. (Rachel Bilson)
The success of the series launched its main cast into stardom, with Ben McKenzie going on to star in Gotham, Rachel Bilson in Hart of Dixie and Jumper, and Adam Brody in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, as well as Netflix’s Nobody, Wants This, which won him a Critics' Choice Award. Ask your typical Millennial about "The O.C." — the primetime teen soap that aired on Fox from 2003 to 2007 — and I'm willing to bet that the show's iconic theme song, "California" by Phantom Planet, just started playing in their head. Created by Josh Schwartz, the series starts out by introducing audiences to Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a troubled kid from Chino who ends up in jail after stealing a car with his older brother. When Ryan meets his public defender Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), the big-hearted lawyer offers his aid ... and when Ryan goes back home only to discover that his mother has moved and left him behind, Sandy takes Ryan to live with him in the affluent Orange County. Despite initial concerns from Sandy's wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), Ryan fits in pretty well with the Cohens, immediately forging a friendship with her only son Seth (Adam Brody) ... and when he meets...

Fans will likely never forget the dramatic circumstances surrounding when Mischa Barton's Marissa left The Oc.
Barton's character was a defining part of the early-2000s teen TV drama, serving as a primary protagonist alongside Benjamin McKenzie's Ryan, Adam Brody's Seth, and Rachel Bilson's Summer in the show's first three seasons.
During her time on the series, Marissa was put through the wringer. In just three seasons she had to grapple with her parent's messy divorce, an evolving drug/drinking problem, and (yes) being investigated for murder among other things.

Justin Hartley got his big break in television in the early 2000s and has spent most of his career on TV, which might be why many of his best movies and TV shows have not been in theaters. Hartley has found a home for himself in roles where he gets to more thoroughly explore characters in a serial format, having long runs on several television shows, even those where he is not a series regular.
Today, Hartley stars in the TV series Tracker and has more movies on the way, but his first foray into Hollywood was in a now-canceled soap opera. Here’s how Kristen Bell made the s*x talk empowering (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The ice queen herself, Kristen Bell, spilled some tea on how she approached the ‘s*x talk’ with her daughters. And it’s safe to say it was fantastic stuff.
On Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, she shared about their unconventional parenting style — something other parents might not want to do. Bell takes a decidedly different approach when it comes to teaching their daughter—Delta and Lincoln—about s*x.
Instead of the classic “birds and the bees” spiel, Bell empowers her little girls by framing s*x as a woman’s choice—rather than the traditional male-centric narrative. She explains, “The woman puts the man’s p*nis in her v*gina.” It’s a subtle but powerful shift.

The Humane star spoke with People about the Brody Renaissance taking place online right now following the release of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, in which Brody portrays the charming, “hot rabbi,” Noah.
“I wouldn’t go as far as being a proud dad, and I haven’t seen the show, but I’m proud of him all the time as his friend and former TV dad,” he told the publication on Wednesday. “And I’m not surprised at all [of the renaissance]. He’s so talented, and I’m glad he’s still doing his thing.”
Gallagher and Brody starred alongside one another as father and son duo, Sandy and Seth Cohen, respectively, in The O.C. The teen drama series launched Brody’s career after his beloved, albeit brief, stint on Gilmore Girls as Dave Rygalski, rocker and first boyfriend of Lane...

The O.C. was one of the staple teen dramas of the aughts, partly thanks to its iconic cast, including names like Mischa Barton. It takes place in Orange County (The O.C.) in Southern California and ran for four seasons before the network canceled it. The show's catalyst was when Ryan Atwood, a troubled teenager from a broken home in Chino, moved in with the Cohens, a wealthy family living in an upper-class community in Newport Beach. Ryan and the Cohens, which included Sandy, Kirsten, and Seth, came from different worlds, but they eventually learned how to operate as a unit.
Although The O.C. contained many side plots and important storylines, the central one revolved around how Ryan fit in with the rest of the characters. The culture clash between Ryan's upbringing and the Cohens' was a main conflict throughout the series because he was so young and had a rough childhood.

Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Star Wars might be the actor's most iconic, but here are 10 brilliant roles Christensen has played in other shows and movies. Anakin Skywalker is not only one of Star Wars' best characters but also one of the most influential figures throughout the entire Star Wars timeline. While Darth Vader already existed before Christensen stepped into the role in the prequel trilogy, he brought something truly unique to the character and humanized the man Anakin had been before he donned the mask.
Christensen has since returned to Star Wars movies and TV shows, first in Obi-Wan Kenobi and then in Ahsoka. These appearances were arguably some of Christensen's best acting to date, but his acting chops haven't only been shown in Star Wars. These 10 roles in various shows and movies represent Hayden Christensen's best performances outside of Star Wars.

Now, she’s the new showrunner on the Steve Harvey-hosted daytime version in syndication and the primetime “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC — which returns July 9 for its 10th anniversary and landmark 100th episode.
And in taking on those roles — which she began earlier this year, Mizuno is also making history. After much research by the folks at series producer Fremantle, they can confirm that Mizuno is indeed the first-ever Black woman to serve as a network game show showrunner.
“I grew up watching game shows, everyone watched game shows,” Mizuno says. “They have traditionally been run by white males. So, to be the first Black woman to run a primetime network game show is huge. And not just any game show, but an iconic franchise at that! I’m very appreciative of it.

Hyden Christensen is widely recognized for his role as Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Wader, in the prequels to the Star Wars trilogy in the early 2000s. The prequels were not well received and widely criticized initially, but they have formed a strong fan base in recent years. Christensen returned as Darth Wader in the Ob-Wan Kenobi TV series and Ahsoka show in 2023.
Apart from being a great actor, Christensen was also a huge gamer before the birth of his child in 2014 and enjoyed playing games like Call of Duty, Halo, and FIFA. His go-to game was FIFA, in which he used to play a lot with Manchester United, as revealed by him during an interaction with Wired. However, his obsession with FIFA is something most Americans have a hard time digesting, as they cannot stand it being his favorite.

Welcome to The O.C., bitch!
Rachel Bilson reprised one of her most iconic roles as The O.C‘s Summer Roberts for three 21Seeds Tequila ads. For the spots, the actress also reunited with the Fox show’s creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who partnered up with the tequila brand to put together the nostalgic ads.
The ads kick off with the same shot as The O.C. intro, a pan of Orange County from the water as the song “California” by Phantom Planet plays.
In the first spot, Bilson’s in a kitchen, making cocktails with 21Seeds’ Valencia Orange tequila at a party. “Is that 21Seeds’ infused tequila?” a guest asks Bilson’s Summer. “Welcome to the V.O.C, bitch,” Bilson replies as the ad bleeps out the “bitch.” The line is meant to resemble what Luke (Chris Carmack) tells Ryan (Ben McKenzie) after they get...

Rachel Bilson says welcome (back) to The O.C. in a new ad that revives her breakout character. In conjunction with a promotion for 21Seeds Tequila, Variety revealed a new commercial that pays homage to the teen classic of the early aughts. In its heyday, the sun-soaked series dominated pop culture from its whip-smart dialogue to the inspired use of Imogen Heaps Hide and Seek." Bilson returns to the beach in all her glory as Summer Roberts, one of the fan-favorite characters. Though she is the only cast member to return to Newport, the commercial is almost a love letter to the series that gave fans some of the most devastating moments of the decade.
