High School Musical will forever be a part of our childhood – a snapshot of simpler times when breaking into song in the middle of the hallway felt like the most natural thing in the world. From Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens’ chemistry to Sharpay’s sass, there is nothing about the franchise that is anything less than iconic. Admit it, we all wanted to be Gabriella!
Basketball had a pretty important role in High School Musical, and it’s insane how much the actors had to practice to nail the dance sequences. In an interview, Zac Efron revisits his time as Troy Bolton and reveals that no CGI was used in the movies. It was all him and his team.

This essay is excerpted from Hollywood High: a Totally Epic, Way Opinionated History of Teen Movies, by Bruce Handy, out May 20 from Avid Reader Press.
Leap Day, 1940. The city: Los Angeles. The place: the Ambassador Hotel’s Cocoanut Grove nightclub, where Hollywood’s biggest names were gathered for the 12th annual Academy Awards ceremony. Among the stars smiling for the cameras: Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, Bette Davis, Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, Greer Garson, Hedy Lamar, and emcee Bob Hope.
Professional jealousy was not the evening’s theme, not officially. So surely no one resented the fact that by one important measure — the measure — the answer to the question: Who is the biggest star in the room? was . . . .
None of the above.

Armstrong has been cast in a lead role in the pilot opposite returning star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The pilot was originally announced at Hulu back in February. Exact plot details are under wraps, but sources previously said the pilot will focus on a new slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role as Buffy.
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar said. “To have that kind of emotional intelligence , and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Gellar also shared a video on Instagram in which she tells Armstrong she got the role, which can be seen below.

Nicholas Sparks writes the kind of books you're likely to find on your mom's nightstand. His romances have captivated (mostly women) readers around the world for nearly 30 years, with over 130 million copies sold according to his website. Many of his novels follow the same formula, but clearly, he's found a winning one: stories of star-crossed lovers, often set in picturesque coastal American small towns, where a profound and enduring bond is tested by a tragic twist. Few authors can claim that all of their books have reached #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
Nicholas Sparks' stories didn't make the leap to the silver screen until 1999 with the adaptation of his second novel, "Message in a Bottle." Star Kevin Costner fits perfectly into Sparks' universe, portraying the all-American, rugged man — stoic and guarded, yet warm. We've seen Kevin Costner play similar roles in some of his best movies, including...

Seth Rogen’s beleaguered Hollywood exec will return as AppleTV+ renews The Studio. More on season 2 below.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg set out to parody modern Hollywood while also bathing in pure movie magic with The Studio, AppleTV+’s ambitious comedy series that premiered in March. The comedy has been well received: Simon Brew was enthusiastic about the series in his review.
AppleTV+ has now renewed Rogen and Goldberg’s show for season 2, as reported by Variety. The news comes just as the first run’s final episode becomes available on the streaming platform.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it follows Rogen’s Matt Remick, who becomes the head of Continental Studios and tries to balance his love for art with commercial movie making. The Studio also uses one-shot takes for most of its scenes and includes a lot of Rogen and Goldberg’s signature humour. It’s a hoot.

Lily James is diving headfirst into Photo Booth, a psychological thriller that could be her Gone Girl moment or her final bow as a leading lady. In a role that echoes the cold brilliance of Rosamund Pike’s iconic turn as Amy Dunne, James trades her usual charm for something darker, sharper, and way more dangerous.
This is a career gamble that could either crown her as a queen of psychological cinema or pull the curtains on her headlining era. One thing’s certain: if she channels even half of Amy Dunne’s icy chaos, Photo Booth could be a game-changer.

It’s The Rock as you’ve never seen him before: Looking like someone else. In the first trailer for A24’s The Smashing Machine, written and directed by Benny Safdie, Dwayne Johnson takes on the role of Mma fighter Mark Kerr, a notable shift into serious drama for the action star/professional wrestler.
The first trailer introduces both Johnson as Kerr as well as Emily Blunt as Kerr’s partner Dawn — a reunion for the two actors after working together on Disney’s The Jungle Cruise (a very different movie from this one). The ups and downs of life as a professional fighter get the spotlight in these scenes, with the ups and downs of Kerr’s career promising both falls from grace as well as comebacks.
Whether The Smashing Machine will connect with awards voters this fall remains to be seen. Still, for those curious to see what...

What Is The Story Behind Chris Hemsworth’s Transformation For Avengers: Endgame? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth’s transformation into Fat Thor was jaw-dropping, but it wasn’t just for laughs; there was a method to the madness. After losing everything in Infinity War and spiraling into a deep depression, Thor let himself go. Gone was the chiseled, hammer-wielding god, replaced by a scruffy, beer-bellied version of the hero who couldn’t be bothered to save the world (or even his hair).
The God of Thunder traded his armor for sweatpants, and instead of fighting villains, he was battling his own demons. However, Marvel didn’t just throw a belly on Hemsworth for comic relief. The Fat Thor transformation perfectly reflected his emotional wreckage, showing how deeply the character had changed. But don’t worry, Thor’s body makeover was only temporary. What Did Zac Efron Reveal About His Personal Challenges Post Disney Fame? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Zac Efron’s rise to fame was as lightning-fast as his moves in High School Musical, where he charmed fans as Troy Bolton, the basketball star with a heart of gold. The Disney Channel classic made him a teen sensation, turning his character into a pop-culture icon. But despite the success, Zac’s transition from squeaky-clean Disney darling to a more mature actor was far from smooth.
After navigating the pressures of fame and dealing with personal struggles, Efron started to break away from his Disney roots. He didn’t want to be typecast as the boy-next-door anymore. So, after High School Musical 3, Zac made a bold move, refusing to work with Disney again. It was his way of embracing new challenges and evolving beyond the high school halls, despite the growing pains that came with it.

The cause of death for actress Michelle Trachtenberg has officially been revealed.
Best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, Trachtenberg was found dead in her midtown Manhattan apartment on February 27 at the age of 39.
The coroner’s office had originally informed the public that the cause of Trachtenberg’s death would not be determined, as her family had requested that no autopsies be conducted, due to religious practices. However, a review of laboratory test results found that the actress died due to complications from diabetes mellitus, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner’s statement to Deadline. The spokesperson explained, “Toxicology testing can be done without autopsy.”
In January 2024, Trachtenberg shot back at critics who made harsh comments about her appearance when she posted a selfie to Instagram, saying, “Fun fact. This is my face…Not malnutrition no problems. Why do you have to hate?...

Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ show The Studio is one of the most talked-about shows, especially because it takes the audience into the world of movie-making, but behind the camera. The show, while being a satire about the authorities of the studios, also serves as a tribute to artists and creatives who are constantly striving to thrive in the industry.
The Studio is a perfect blend of humor, drama, storytelling, and performances by the actors, which has managed to impress the audience and critics. An exciting part of the show is the A-list cameos in every episode that keep the momentum of the show going. Apple TV+ recently shared a series of posters that have once again got fans talking about Rogen’s show.

When a satire of the movie industry takes a big swing, it can succeed only if it connects in a piercingly funny and bold way. It has to offer us an eye-opening new take on how Hollywood works. And that’s the bar “The Studio” has set for itself. I think Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Apple TV+ series about the inner workings of a contemporary movie studio triumphantly clears that bar. “The Studio” isn’t just addictively entertaining — it’s wickedly perceptive. It has a bead on the film business today like nothing you’ve seen. Yet the series, which just aired its sixth episode (there are four more to go), has come in for some dismissals. That’s partly because of its in-your-face style, which some find obnoxious.
Yet it’s also because there are viewers who look at the show and see something broad and derivative rather than new and insightful.

John Cena recently exceeded expectations by claiming the WWE World Championship title for a record 17th time. Cena used trickery and mind games to get the better of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. This resulted in mixed reactions from the entire combat sports community. But that’s not what we are here to talk about.
John Cena recently revealed his guilty pleasure movie, and it is wilder than you can imagine. In an interview with Unilad, which also featured Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler, Cena named ‘Behind the Green Door’ as his favourite guilty pleasure movie.
Everyone at the interview was confused since no one knew anything about the movie or what it was about—until someone on the set decided to look it up on Google.

Actor-comedian-filmmaker Seth Rogen is regarded as one of the most talented artists in the industry, who, with his work over the years, has managed to garner a loyal fan base. Not only does he star, but Rogen co-created The Studio with his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg, along with Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez. The soft satire on Hollywood is loosely based on the experience Rogen and Goldberg had while working with Sony Pictures.
The Studio surprises the audience by giving them a peek into the life behind the camera, along with some of the jaw-dropping cameos. The daughter of one of the Von Erich brothers doesn’t believe her father was portrayed accurately in the A24 movie The Iron Claw.
Lacey Von Erich, daughter of Kerry Von Erich, is speaking out against the Sean Durkin-helmed project which centered around the influential wrestling family. On Monday’s episode of Investigation Discovery’s new docuseries Hollywood Demons, she says the depiction of her father in the movie was “so inaccurate it was heart-wrenching.”
“My sister and I were not in the movie as my dad’s children, and he didn’t have a wife or anything,” Lacey says in the episode. “And that was a really big part of my dad. So how he was portrayed in the movie is so inaccurate that it was heart-wrenching.”

Ben Affleck is basically Hollywood’s walking plot twist. One day, he’s directing an Oscar-winning drama, the next, he’s going viral for balancing a tray of Dunkin’ iced coffees like it’s a high-stakes mission. He’s not just Batman, he’s the moody meme, the screenwriter-turned-superstar, and the guy who somehow juggles prestige films and tabloid chaos like it’s a full-time sport.
There’s something oddly comforting about how unpredictable he is. He’ll give a killer performance one week and look completely done with life in the next paparazzi shot. But behind all that Affleck-ness are some seriously strange, unexpected, and low-key fascinating facts.
From bizarre childhood moments to low-key genius-level achievements and strange side gigs, there’s more to Ben than brooding and Batmobiles. You’ve seen him on screen, in memes, and probably in your social feed more than once. Now, it’s...

The Iron Claw, directed by Sean Durkin and starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Lily James, is a devastating exploration of masculinity and strength through the lens of the famous Von Erich wrestling family. The Von Erich family is speaking up to say A24 got it wrong.

Movies are like comfort food for the soul. Whether you’re looking to laugh, cry, or just escape the chaos of daily life, there’s always something playing that fits the mood. But let’s be honest, movie lovers can be very picky too. One second, we’re praising a film’s aesthetic, and the next, we’re tearing it apart because the villain’s logic didn’t make sense or the protagonist made a decision no sane person would ever make. Filmmakers try their best, but even the best of the best slip up sometimes.
It’s kind of wild how even the most loved movies—yes, the blockbusters and cult classics—have plot holes that are just sitting out there, waving at us. Unless you’re watching with a super sharp eye (or you’re on your fifth rewatch), you probably never noticed them or thought about them hard enough.

The cat’s out of the bag! Zoë Kravitz could get back behind the camera for his first directorial project since last year’s Blink Twice with a new film titled How to Save a Marriage. The mysterious project is setting up at Sony Pictures, with Ross Evans penning the screenplay and Kravitz’s The Batman co-star, Robert Pattinson, producing alongside Brighton McCloskey through their Icki Eneo Arlo studio. Geoff Shaevitz and Evan Silverberg will produce through Entertainment 360.
The plot remains a mystery, but Deadline says Sony jumped at the chance to snatch up Kravitz’s next film. While we don’t know much about the project, sources say it has Blink Twice vibes, making Kravitz the perfect choice to direct. I highly recommend seeing Blink Twice if you’ve not seen it. It’s a twisted tale about a mysterious island getaway where guests experience more than they signed on for.

We have a cause of death for former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg.
Following a review of laboratory test results, it was determined that Trachtenberg died naturally as a result of complications from diabetes mellitus, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner told Deadline in a statement.
Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her midtown Manhattan apartment February 26. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. No foul was suspected. She was 39.
The coroner’s office initially said her cause of death would remain undetermined because the family had requested that no autopsy be conducted because of religious reasons. The medical examiner’s office would automatically do an autopsy if foul play or criminality was suspected, but there was none, so the office did not overrule the family’s decision. Following the lab test results, the medical examiner’s office amended the cause of death.

The forthcoming untitled comedy feature from director Nicholas Stoller is continuing to expand its cast alongside leads Will Ferrell and Zac Efron.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Michael Peña have joined the Amazon MGM Studios movie that includes previously announced castmembers Regina Hall, Jimmy Tatro and Billy Eichner. Helming the film from his own script, Stoller reunites with the studio behind his recent feature You’re Cordially Invited that starred Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
Previously known as Judgment Day, Stoller’s new movie focuses on a young convict (Efron) who gets out of prison and takes an unscripted TV courtroom hostage, as he is convinced that the judge (Ferrell) delivered a ruling that destroyed his life. Details regarding the roles for Chopra Jonas and Peña are being kept under wraps.
Producers include Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez Productions and Stoller for Stoller Global Solutions.

At just 25 years old (as of writing), Joey King has been featured in over 70 films and television shows dating as far back as 2006. Given the sheer volume of work she takes on, it's not shock that many of these have been critical and commercial duds you've either never heard of or wish you'd never heard of, like the "Final Destination" riff-off "Wish Upon," the middling ghost romance "The In Between," and the irredeemably pandering sci-fi thriller "Uglies."
At the same time, King has consistently turned high-quality performances in some memorable projects. Fans of "The Dark Knight Rises," "Crazy Stupid Love," and "The Conjuring" are proof that she's been ready for almost any acting challenge since she first appeared on a screen. From her extensive resume, we picked out our favorite roles and ranked them based on quality and how well they showcase King as an actor.

If you’ve been following Apple TV+’s latest comedy hit The Studio, you already know it’s basically a who’s who of Hollywood wrapped in a hilarious package. Episode 4, titled “The Missing Reel,” continues this tradition with what feels like Seth Rogen calling up his contact list and saying, “Hey, wanna be on my show?” And thank goodness for that because the result is absolutely delightful.
This noir-inspired adventure follows Matt Remick (Rogen) as he desperately searches for a missing film reel that could not only tank a production but potentially “kill film” as a medium forever.

The episode cleverly blends industry satire with genuine affection for filmmaking while showcasing some serious star power. It’s like being invited to the coolest Hollywood party where everyone is casually dropping insider jokes, and you somehow got on the guest list.

The two shows represent a blast of contrast: Adolescence is gritty and minimalist. The Studio is noisily over the top. Yet both are dominating the conversation among critics and cinephiles and are impacting viewers worldwide.
Adolescence is topping Netflix charts in 71 countries with its probe of the “male rage” lurking in a benign 13-year-old boy (played by Owen Cooper). Created and directed by a British actor Stephen Graham, the four-part series is reminiscent of ’60s-era documentary filmmaking.
The Studio from Apple TV+ is a throwback to the fierce satiric comedies of Blake Edwards (The SOBs in 1971) depicting an angst-ridden studio chief mobilizing a $200 million art film. The embattled chief is played by Seth Rogen, once the king of cannabis, who persuades Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, among others, to assume the roles of auteur ogres.
The Studio has benefited from headlines in the Hollywood trades that keep placing studio chiefs on the endangered species list.

Having been the internet’s favourite meme material in recent years, Olivia Wilde has been given several tags, from difficult to divisive. However, in The Studio’s episode 4, she showed us a different aspect of her personality. It brought light to the fact that she is neither delicate nor bitter, but marvellously self-aware.

The show is a satirical comedy set in a Hollywood production company where every day is full of the brilliant struggle between art and commerce. With little left for imagination, from her previous set of controversies to her relationships and her soaring ambitions. Playing a paranoid and severely image-obsessed director, who is there to pitch a ‘Chinatown musical’, she gave a wink to her public perception.
