- Mahmoud Darwich was born on March 13, 1941 in Al-Bireh, Palestine. He was a writer and actor, known for Our Music (2004), Junction 48 (2016) and Amreeka (2009). He was married to Rana Kabbani and Hayat Heeni. He died on August 9, 2008 in Houston, Texas, USA.

- Palestinian poet known for his activist work with the Palestine Liberation Organization. In 1988, Yitzhak Shamir read Darwich's "Passing in Passing Words" to the Israeli parliament as an example of the Palestinians' unwillingness to live alongside Jews. Darwich's supports claim that the poem was misunderstood and mistranslated.
