Not too long ago, there were rumblings that Marvel Studios was developing a World War Hulk movie. For all we know, that's still the plan, but the project has yet to be confirmed (perhaps that will change when the "Mutant Saga" slate is unveiled).
While this movie coming to fruition feels like wishful thinking in a lot of ways, it's not impossible. There's also a strong chance that certain moments and scenes are adapted elsewhere in the MCU.
In this feature, we've singled out 8 incredible occurrences from Greg Pak and John Romita Jr.'s comic book event of the same name. From key action scenes to plot beats that would be well-suited to more than just a Hulk feature, seeing these World War Hulk scenes in live-action would be a dream come true.
See which moments we've singled out from the series by smashing the "Next"/"View List" button below.

In a long-overdue tribute, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just got an awesome Marvel redesign, celebrating their connection to the Daredevil franchise. Debuting in 1983, the Tmnt were originally an outright parody of Marvel's Man Without Fear. Now, they finally look the part.
In a post recently shared to Reddit, creator Sweating the Small Stuff revealed custom action figures where each of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is wearing a different version of Daredevil's comic costume. Leonardo wears Daredevil's iconic red costume, Raphael wears his stripped-down Man Without Fear outfit, Michelangelo wears his original yellow costume, and Donatello sports his controversial armored costume from the '90s.

This August, Black Cat returns with a new solo ongoing series written by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and illustrated by Gleb Melnikov (Amazing Spider-Man). Spinning directly out of Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man, the comic kicks off with Felicia Hardy testing her luck at being a full-fledged superhero.
Black Cat will be a radical shift for the character's solo adventures as the longtime anti-hero finds herself battling supervillains, including many of Spider-Man's most fearsome foes, amidst her usual high-stakes capers.
However, is Felicia's most recent change of heart for purely altruistic reasons or simply a way to pull off her greatest heist yet?
We'll have to wait and see, but the series marks Wilson’s first ongoing Marvel series since her groundbreaking run of Ms. Marvel concluded (she previously wrote a Black Cat short story in Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood #4).

Spider-Man’s very own Felicia “Black Cat” Hardy is officially returning to the Marvel Universe this August with a brand-new solo series, led by some of the comic industry’s most talented and promising creators. With this return comes a new era for Black Cat, as she fully commits to being a superhero and leaves behind her morally grey tendencies.
August 20, 2025, will mark the official debut of writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Gleb Melnikov’s Black Cat series, which will kick off Felicia’s new era as a fully-fledged superhero.
This series will directly continue the events of Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man #8–9 (2025), where Felicia’s “entire world turned upside down after Spider-Man's battle with Hellgate.” As a result, the solo series will follow Black Cat as she turns over a new leaf as New York’s newest hero, apparently leaving behind her character-defining career as a thief.

The new era of Amazing Spider-Man has begun courtesy of Joe Kelly, John Romita Jr., and Pepe Larraz. The series promises to take Peter Parker into bold new territory, and we now have a first look at July's issues.
In the two-part Amazing Spider-Man #7 and #8, Spidey gets utterly demolished by Hellgate, a brutal takedown that marks only the beginning of the mysterious new supervillain's plans for the web-slinger. It's said that the plot will continue to ramp up as the series approaches its milestone #975th issue later this year.
Here are the official descriptions for both issues:
The Hellgate Is Open! Spider-Man is fighting for his life – literally – as he tries to keep Hellgate from destroying Manhattan. But what does this strange new foe want? And can Peter figure it out before his day gets a whole lot worse?!

"This is going to be the most expensive home movie I ever made." Those are the alleged words of director Matthew Vaughn, according to Christopher Mintz-Plasse, one of the stars of 2010's "Kick-Ass." In an interview with Chron at the time, the "Superbad" star explained that Vaughn's R-rated superhero movie "almost didn't get made" and that "nobody wanted to touch it."
That all may be hard to imagine now. Why wouldn't a studio want to back a comic book movie with a killer cast? And this is Matthew Vaughn we're talking about! But 2010 was a very different time. Vaughn hadn't yet reinvented the "X-Men" franchise with "First Class," nor had he delivered the "Kingsman" property. He was merely a stylish filmmaker...

In the halcyon days before Disney+, Marvel Television partnered with Netflix to make Marvel Cinematic Universe-adjacent television shows. That partnership lasted from 2015 to 2018, and the end of it meant all the Netflix-Marvel shows ended too — even "Daredevil," which ran for three seasons and concluded with the promise of more.
Of course, the new Disney+ series "Daredevil: Born Again" is essentially a fourth season, bringing back co-leads Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. But Daredevil only needed to be "Born Again" because the original show ended prematurely. Had it gotten a fourth season at Netflix, it'd look nothing like "Born Again."
Don't take my word for it; listen to former "Daredevil" showrunner Erik Oleson, who oversaw the series' third and best season. Oleson did not return for "Born Again," but in a recent interview with The Wrap,...

"Daredevil: Born Again" returned Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to TV screens. The series opened on a tragic note as he lost a close friend to sharpshooting villain Bullseye (Wilson Bethel).
In the current run of "Daredevil" at Marvel Comics, writer Saladin Ahmed recently had Matt face a similar choice regarding Bullseye. Previous "Daredevil" writer Chip Zdarsky ended his run with an amnesiac Matt becoming a priest. Ahmed picked up from there, but Matt was always going to go back to being Daredevil — he was back in the costume before the end of issue 1! What prompted that?
At the end of Zdarsky's run, Matt literally went to Hell and back, and something came with him. In a turn right out of "Fullmetal Alchemist," Daredevil has been fighting demons, each embodying one of the seven deadly sins. The story included in issue #19 with the sin that's strongest in Matt; not Pride, but Wrath.

Marvel just can’t stop stirring the pot. First, they made Mary Jane Venom. Now, they’re flinging Spider-Man way back in time to a period no one asked for. Fans wanted epic web-slinging, not a history rewind, but here we are.
Marvel’s playing a risky game — push Spidey too far, and they might just get caught in their own web of backlash.

Will "Avengers: Doomsday" have room for Doctor Victor von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) himself? The film's casting announcement confirmed not only many MCU regulars but also the cast of the forthcoming "Fantastic Four: First Steps" and several returning faces from the 20th Century Fox "X-Men" films. Some major Marvel character absences suggest this may not even be the whole cast.
"Doomsday" is going to be a two-part film, like the last "Avengers" duology, "Infinity War" and "Endgame." We can guess pretty concretely what "Secret Wars" will be: Doom will achieve godly power and rule over a realm called Battleworld. In broad strokes, that's what both the original 1984 "Secret Wars" and the 2015 one (by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic) are about.
But "Doomsday" is less easy to predict. Beyond it introducing Doom, and presumably setting the stage for "Secret Wars," other...

Daredevil: Born Again kicked off with a bang, and the latest episode will leave fans talking. The newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprise their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin, respectively, in a continuation of the original Daredevil series. While fans might have been worried given that Daredevil previously went through some of the most iconic Daredevil stories, including "The Elektra Saga" and even put its own spin on the "Born Again" series that the Disney+ series draws its name from, the creators pulled from various corners of the Daredevil universe to craft this latest season.
Daredevil: Born Again features plenty of callbacks and Easter eggs from both the original Daredevil series and comics, but it also features some interesting nods and references to the larger MCU and the various heroes that occupy New York. From The Punisher,...

The superhero genre has proven itself incredibly diverse and versatile, exploring everything from cosmic saviors like Superman to demonic heroes like Hellboy. However, audiences can sometimes struggle to relate to those heroes, instead gravitating to superheroes with no powers at all. Sometimes, the stories with the highest stakes, the best sense of adventure, and the most engaging plots focus on protagonists who rely on intelligence, technology, and skill to save the day.
From Marvelto DC and everything in between, the comic book medium has given Hollywood decades of source material to choose from when it comes to good, powerless heroes. While not all of these movies land at the box office, they can still offer a fun experience for the audience. Whether animated or live-action, based on a comic or completely original, sometimes superheroes are at their best when they don't have cosmic superpowers to fall back on.

Marvel Studios was the reigning king of Hollywood cinema during the 2010s, led primarily by Robert Downey Jr.'s career-reviving turn as Tony Stark/Iron Man. In the new decade, though, the series has floundered a bit after "Avengers: Endgame."
So, in a Hail Mary move, Marvel has brought back Downey — not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom. Yes, Downey is trading one man in an iron mask role for another, and he will be the main villain of upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars." How exactly is this going to play out? Will Downey simply keep Doom's mask on the entire time, with only the audience knowing what he looks like underneath? Will he be from a universe that's different than the so-called "Sacred Timeline"?

Marvel Comics will kill Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer, in an upcoming limited series set to take place this summer. The five-issue event— Death of the Silver Surfer will hit shelves this June, by writer Greg Pak and artist Sumit Kumar.
The timing aligns the comic universe with plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is preparing to introduce Shalla Bal, not Radd as the Silver Surfer, in Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel Comics isn't shy when it comes to keeping its releases and the McU's in conversation. The strategic Death of the Silver Surfer echoes the recently debuted One World Under Doom event preceding Robert Downey Jr.'s debut as Doctor Doom.

Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, is one of comics' deadliest "normal" super-villains. He's got no superpowers, but he does have a vast criminal empire that enables him to make life extremely difficult for superheroes like Daredevil and Spider-Man. While Fisk has a double life as a "legitimate" businessman, the Kingpin does not wear a costume. Even so, he still has a recognizable look: bald, with a white-and-purple business suit concealing his sumo wrestler physique.
What inspired Kingpin's design? Was it Lex Luthor, the other most famous bald villain in comic books? The going industry myth, backed up by John Romita Jr. (the son of Kingpin's co-creator and a comic artist himself), is that Romita Sr. used actor Sydney Greenstreet as a model for Fisk. A British thespian, Greenstreet is most remembered nowadays for appearing in three 1940s pictures with Humphrey Bogart: "The Maltese Falcon," "Casablanca," and "Passage to Marseille." Thunderbolts* is shaping up to be one of the most exciting upcoming releases. The film will bring together a new team of former villains and anti-heroes, while also introducing one of Marvel’s most powerful superheroes – Sentry.
Sentry will be portrayed by Lewis Pullman, and the trailers have already teased his incredible invincibility. We also know that Sentry will likely be a manufactured hero, and we can expect the former Avengers Tower to be reimagined as his Watchtower.
Despite being one of the most popular and powerful Marvel Characters, Sentry’s creation was for a long time a complicated matter. In 2000, Paul Jenkins and John Romita Jr. created a new five-issue Marvel Knights series about a character called The Sentry, which Jenkins had tried to pitch to both Marvel and DC for years.

There are certain Marvel comic book crossovers that fans would love to see take place in live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them is the hard-hitting and destructive World War Hulk. It's a series where the Hulk has never been more powerful. Or, as it’s said in the comic, “He’s never been angrier, so he’s never been stronger.”
World War Hulk comes after Planet Hulk where some of the Illuminati send the Hulk into space. After another rampage destroys some of Las Vegas (Fantastic Four Nos. 533-534), the self-proclaimed protectors of Earth decided to send Bruce Banner away (Incredible Hulk No. 91). The plan was for him to land on a peaceful planet. Instead, he ends up on a planet plagued with war called Sakaar. While there, he saves Sakaar and falls in love. For the first time in years, Hulk was happy. Unfortunately, that was short-lived.

In its first few episodes,Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has already made some major changes to Spider-Man’s mythos. From Uncle Ben’s death occurring long before Peter Parker gained his superpowers to Norman Osborn serving as Peter’s mentor, the series aims to shake up the status quo of Marvel’s flagship superhero. One of the most significant divergences from the traditional Spider-Man tale was his very origin story, which played out in the first episode, “Amazing Fantasy.” Though bitten by a spider as per usual, it was not a radioactive spider from a science exhibition or Oscorp lab; instead, it emerged from a portal opened by Doctor Strange, who accidentally teleported himself to Midtown High while battling a ferocious monster.

Spider-Man is back on the smallscreen in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The series follows an alternate version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man and updates his world for a new generation. The series pays homage to the character's roots with artwork designed to evoke the Spider-Man comics of the 1960s, drawn by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. Marvel Studios revealed the titles of every Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode. Some of these episode titles will sound familiar to comic book fans.
The visuals of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man may draw upon the character's earliest appearances in the pages of Marvel Comics, but the series' storylines appear to be taking inspiration from the entirety of Spider-Man's long publication history. Early promotional material for the Disney+ series has already teased this. The first trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man spotlighted Spider-Man's new Oscorp suit, modeled after the comics' Future Foundation suit.

The new animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man encountered one of its first controversies just as the show debuted on Disney+. However, the series' showrunner wants fans to know that there's more to the story.
In the new series, Peter Parker is voiced by Hudson Thames. The actor was speaking about his role in a recent interview with Collider when he shared the concerns he'd had about the project when first signing on. Thames shared that his "biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke," and this was met with backlash online. Now, showrunner Jeff Trammmell has offered his reaction to the backlash during a new Q&a with fans on Reddit. Trammell said he didn't pay much attention to the comments, as knowing Thames personally, the showrunner feels certain that the actor meant well.

Marvel’s new Disney+ animated series, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” finds Peter Parker in an alternate timeline during his freshman year in high school. This results in some surprising interactions: Pete befriends goth girl Nico Minoru (Grace Song) from The Runaways comics at Midtown School of Science and Technology and partners on a school project with football star Lonnie Lincoln (Eugene Byrd), who later becomes supervillain Tombstone. In addition, he’s bitten by a spider falling out of a portal during a fight between Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) and Venom, and he’s mentored by Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) instead of Tony Stark.
These twists are part of a retcon subversion from head writer and executive producer Jeff Trammell (“Craig of the Creek”). “It was definitely our goal to create something that felt very new and very fresh,” he told IndieWire. “This isn’t a Spidey in space story.

The animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” offers a fresh perspective on Peter Parker’s story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Positioned after “Captain America: Civil War,” the narrative explores Peter’s teenage experience alongside his emerging superhuman abilities.
The show diverges from conventional storytelling, creating space for a nuanced examination of Peter’s character and the supporting individuals who shape his world.
Peter’s relationship with Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark creates a provocative narrative twist. This unexpected connection challenges traditional superhero storytelling by presenting a complex mentorship that blurs lines between guidance and potential manipulation.
The series probes deeper psychological terrain, examining how influential figures can impact a young hero’s moral development and personal trajectory. Through this lens, the show reflects broader questions about power dynamics, personal growth, and the intricate ways mentorship can transform an individual’s path.

May 3, 2025 is the first Saturday of the month of May, and many geek bibliophiles - or, more accurately, "Pannapictagraphists" - have that day circled. It's Free Comic Book Day. This year promises to be one of its most significant to date.
Most recently, DC Comics entered the fray by confirming its Free Comic Book Day (Fcbd) line-up and sharing about the preeminent Dan Slott's upcoming Superman Unlimited. The quill behind Amazing Spider-Man in 2014 and 2016's Eisner-winning Silver Surfer No. 11 is partnering with DC and Jim Lee to help James Gunn and Peter Safran make 2025 Kal-El's biggest year since, well...since you know when with that "cut" thingamajig.
That announcement helped bolster the news about the reinvention of the label's major heroes and villains called DC All In, which is coming this fall. The other labels also have some offerings for true comic fans. Let's review what we will see on the shelves this summer.

If you're a Spider-Man villain, odds are you're either themed after an animal or a Goblin. The original Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, is Spider-Man's most personal and deadly enemy, whether we're talking about the comics or Willem Dafoe's unforgettable Goblin in the "Spider-Man" movies.
As should be expected with any comic that's been running for 60 years, many "Spider-Man" writers have recycled classic ideas, which has led to many different Goblin successors. Some of them have worked, like Harry Osborn stepping into his dad's shoes after a falling out with his best pal Peter Parker.
But there's one Goblin villain distinct enough to be a separate character, even if he does still exist in the Green Goblin's shadow. That is the Hobgoblin, introduced in 1983's "Amazing Spider-Man" #238 by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr. Corporate titan Roderick Kingsley comes across one of the believed-dead Green Goblin's old hideouts,...

There are so many Spider-Man characters who have gotten massive respect and recognition as characters who can stand apart from Peter Parker. Major characters like Miles Morales and Eddie Brock have proven they can carry their own comic books. But not every character gets the respect they deserve. J. Jonah Jameson is still often flanderized into being a conspiracy nut who doesn't care about anything but destroying Spider-Man, and Madame Web is someone no one cares about, despite the fact she's done a lot to earn respect.
So many characters have gotten their own spin-offs and tons of respect. Miles has gotten his own video game and even stars in several movies. Venom is much the same. While the Hulk often gets blamed for his and Bruce Banner’s violent outbursts, Banner isn’t exactly the paragon of pacifism. Sure, he does his best to keep things in control, but Banner is just as much a Hulk as the rest of his alters. Underneath his docile nature, exists a cruel man with a talent for torture. Where the Hulk is hot rage, Banner is chilling sadism.
It’s worth understanding the nature of Banner’s Hulks to see why he isn’t any different from his gamma-powered alters. Bruce’s father, Brian Banner, was a violent abuser who saw Bruce as a monster.

Usually, when ‘Marvel Comics’ and ‘Rick and Morty’ find themselves being referenced in the same sentence, it’s because Rick and Morty has done a parody of Marvel in some form or fashion, or Marvel has introduced characters reminiscent of those in Rick and Morty. What’s decidedly out of the norm is the idea that Marvel Comics is somehow even weirder than Rick and Morty, even in a case where two nearly identical events occur in both established universes. But, if one bizarre theory is correct, that unusual circumstance would become a simple fact.

Many famous characters got their start from Spider-Man from Miles Morales and Venom. However, not every side character from Spider-Man has managed to be successful. Try as Marvel might, they just can't seem to figure out what to do with Madame Web, and after a disastrous move, some fans are beginning to question if Madame Web is a character even worth trying to salvage at all.
First appearing way back in Amazing Spider-Man #210 by Dennis O'Neil and John Romita Jr, Madame Web was a medium working in New York City and one that Spider-Man didn't really put any stock in. He considered her nothing more than a fraud, but after a crime left him with no clues, he figured there wasn't any harm in at least asking for her help. To his genuine surprise, Madame Web's powers turned out to be very real, and she easily helped him locate the criminals he was after.

Long before the war between the DC Extended Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Smallville was forging a universe of its own. It first began in 2001, which was seven years before Iron Man took to the skies to battle terrorists and corrupt executives on the big screen. The show even came before Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Batman movie series began in 2005 with the aptly titled Batman Begins.
Smallville was pitched as a then-modern adaptation of Superman's origin story. As such, it only has been shown a few DC characters outside of Metropolis and Smallville itself. With Clark Kent still exploring the limits of his powers, he was still far too new to interact with Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, or other standout heroes. They were slowly introduced, of course,...
