In the season 3 finale of the primetime teen soap "The O.C." — which aired on May 18, 2006 — viewers were absolutely shocked when Mischa Barton's lead character, Marissa Cooper, died in a fiery car crash. Within the narrative, Marissa's ex-boyfriend Kevin Volchok (Cam Gigandet) runs her car off the road while she's driving with her on-again, off-again love Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), and Marissa dies in Ryan's arms as their car catches fire behind them. Barton, who actually spoiled the twist shortly before the episode aired, stayed quiet about her reasons for leaving the series behind for quite some time, but in an exclusive interview with E! News in 2021, Barton finally spoke up about why she walked away.
"It's a bit complicated," Barton said, answering a question about when conversations began about her departure. "It started pretty early on because it had a lot to do with them adding Rachel [Bilson, who...

One of Paul Rudd's most memorable movie roles nearly didn't happen. On the latest episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the actor recalled his audition for Amy Heckerling's Clueless, where he was asked to read for the part of Josh Lucas, and how a spontaneous decision could have cost him his big break. After the audition, Rudd dramatically changed his appearance by chopping his long locks down to a buzz cut, which came as a shock to the director, who was considering offering him the role before seeing the haircut. Ugh! As if!
"I wasn't thinking about it, [and] I was walking past a barbershop and I went in and said, 'Just buzz my head,'" Rudd revealed. "A week later, I went into a restaurant and Amy Heckerling, who directed the movie, was eating there. She looked at me and froze, and she goes, 'What did you do?...

Leighton Meester has spoken out for the first time about the death of her Gossip Girl co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who died in February at age 39 from complications related to diabetes mellitus. The actress, known for her role as Blair Waldorf on the hit teen drama, reflected on Trachtenberg’s passing in a recent Flaunt magazine cover story.
“It’s devastating,” Meester said. “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”
Trachtenberg, who played Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, joined the cast in the show’s second season and became known for portraying one of the series’ most unpredictable characters. Her role grew from a single appearance into a recurring presence throughout the show’s run. Georgina’s schemes, lies, and dramatic reveals often disrupted the lives of the main characters, making her a memorable part of the series’ larger narrative.

Spotted: H.W. throwing a Hollywood hissy fit. Harvey Weinstein had some serious beef with Gossip Girl. Shocking? Not really. But this time, it wasn’t just another crusty old white man being mad at teens having fun — it was personal. Real personal.
You see, the original Gossip Girl wasn’t just serving headbands and heartbreak—it was dishing out pop culture gold for six juicy seasons and 121 delicious episodes. It was a pop culture blueprint, even Ivy League aspirations. But when a certain character popped up at NYU in Season 3, it stirred the pot in ways the writers never expected.
Well, H-dawg did Not like the shout-out. Rumor has it he pulled some serious strings to make that storyline vanish faster than Dan Humphrey’s credibility in season six.
So, what did Hollywood’s former kingpin do when a teen drama dared to throw shade? Pour yourself a martini and take a seat,...

Note for fans of the original film: this is not the same follow-up series announced in 2020, or the short-lived sitcom based on the movie that ran from 1996-1999, neither of which involved Silverstone.

Today's news has got fans of Amy Heckerling's coming-of-age masterpiece "Clueless" waffling between totally freaking and totally bugging, because according to Variety, the Peacock streaming service is currently developing a sequel series with star Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz.
If this sounds like old news, it's because you're probably thinking of a different Peacock "Clueless" series that was announced back in 2020 and slated to star Stacey Dash, reviving her role as Cher's ride-or-die bestie Dionne. Well, that series is no longer happening, and this series currently has Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage attached to write, along with Jordan Weiss. The trio will executive produce alongside Silverstone, and they'll be joined by the original film's producer, Robert Lawrence, and writer/director Heckerling as executive producers as well.

Cher Horowitz may be on her way back to the screen.
Peacock is developing a follow-up series to Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone attached to reprise her iconic role as Cher. She’ll also be an executive producer of the project, which comes from writers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C.) and Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday). Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the 1995 film, and its producer Robert Lawrence are also EPs.
CBS Studios, which owns rights to Clueless — corporate sibling Paramount Pictures released the movie — and Universal Television are producing. Other than Silverstone once again playing Cher, story details are being kept quiet.

That show had a mystery-fueled plot that centered on Cher disappearing and her best friend Dionne (played by Stacey Dash in the movie) investigating what happened.

With recent news that Clueless would be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a 4K Uhd SteelBook release, fans of the iconic 90s movie were feeling a bit old. To be fair, a revamped version of the movie bursting at the seams with extras was a very good consolation prize, but Alicia Silverstone and Peacock are doing us even better. Today, word broke that a Clueless series is in the works with Silverstone set to reprise her role as the one and only Cher Horowitz. In addition to reprising her career-starting role, Silverstone will also executive produce the project alongside the original film’s writer and director, Amy Heckerling, and producer, Robert Lawrence. Adding that extra bit of edge to the follow-up chapter will fall into the hands of Gossip Girl’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will pen the series and also add their names as executive producers.

Six years ago, the studio developed a different Clueless series reboot centered around Dash’s Dionne character, which also went to Peacock for development.

Years before social media had this much power over society, Gossip Girl had already warned us about the dangers of it, even though the characters in the series were not really paying attention. This teen drama show based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, adapted by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, aired from 2007 to 2012 on The CW network. It follows the exclusive and drama-filled lives of the Upper East Side's high-class teens, who happen to be closely scrutinized by Gossip Girl, an anonymous blogger that thrives on chit-chat and seems to know everything.
The show is a clear demonstration of the influence that social media has if it is not properly managed, going so far as to run people's lives. Even though Manhattan teenagers knew how unhealthy this blog was and all the effects it had on people and relationships, they kept on reading it, effectively expanding its audience day by day.

This article contains a discussion of addiction.
Based (very loosely) on Cecily von Ziegesar's book series, "Gossip Girl" started its run on The CW in 2007 and, in the hands of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, let us into the exclusive world of a bunch of uber-wealthy Manhattan teenagers, all of whom were played by beautiful twenty-somethings. The whole story begins with the return of the troubled but beautiful socialite Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), who ran away to boarding school in Connecticut after some sort of traumatizing life experience before the show's narrative began — and when she does come back to New York, she tries to start fresh. Unfortunately for her, that's not an option thanks to one conniving, unhinged troublemaker: Georgina Sparks, played to perfection by Michelle Trachtenberg.

Quick Links The Plot of The O.C. The Third Season Was the Weakest Season of the Show Who Was Johnny? Johnny's Death Was an Infamous Moment of the Show Johnny's Arc Felt Too Repetive
The O.C. was an incredibly popular show, arguably setting the standard for teen dramas that followed, such as Gossip Girl. The series was both critically and publically beloved in its first two seasons. However, the third season saw a massive decline in audience reception. While most of this came from the decline of Marissa Cooper's character arc, a lot of it had to do with the character of Johnny.
Johnny Harper was introduced in Season 3 as a recurring character and served as a new friend to Marissa Cooper when she transferred to a new school. However, the character quickly took a dark turn, and many fans felt that the Johnny arc was where the series jumped the shark.

The eponymous Gossip Girl was a mysterious blogger who narrated the students' most dramatic secrets. Throughout the show's six seasons, audiences were kept on the edge of their seats waiting to see what the characters would do next and hoping to catch clues about Gossip Girl's identity.
Despite the show's popularity with audiences, Gossip Girl ended after six seasons, creating fitting endings for each characters' storyline and finally exposing Gossip Girl's identity to the characters and audience.
