One cinematic medium that has continued far-reaching appeal spanning age groups and cultures is animated movies. Animation consistently performs well worldwide, often buoyed by its family-friendly sense of humor, universal messaging, and visually impressive art design. In addition to being a hit with critics, animated films regularly find themselves as the highest-earning movies of a given year, particularly when produced and marketed by larger studios. This has led to lucrative box office runs, sometimes breaking records set by their live-action counterparts.
Many of the highest-grossing films of all time are animated, and many of these major earners were released within the past decade, at least in nominal earnings. With that in mind, we've assembled over a dozen of the highest-earning animated films to date. To clarify, this list includes earners without adjusting for inflation and drawing from cumulative global box office grosses.

There was no way SNL Season 50 could live up to the hype.
For the past three or four years (at least), Saturday Night Live has been treading water as it geared up for its historic golden anniversary, a landmark that no other comedy show has come close to realizing. Sure, the show was stuck in mediocre mode, but watch out when SNL blew off the doors for Season 50! There’d be four documentaries, Olympics cameos, an anniversary concert, books, commemorative T-shirts and a parade of the biggest comedy stars of the past half-century.
But unfortunately — and inevitably — SNL failed to meet the moment. While oversized expectations meant the show was doomed to disappoint, SNL still managed to find multiple ways to screw up the biggest year in TV comedy history. Here are five ways Saturday Night Live missed its most significant moment…

There were jokes about cast member Sarah Sherman leaving and Weekend Update‘s Colin Jost replacing Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels, there were long hugs during the curtain call but no real indications of the changes to come during the Season 50 finale of the venerable NBC sketch comedy series.
And changes are likely to come with a 17-member cast that features six veterans who have been on the show for seven or more seasons: Jost, Michael Che, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim as well as Kenan Thompson, the longest-tenured SNL cast member in history at 22 years.
Saturday Night Live stopped giving longtime cast members sendoffs in the season finale like the star-studded goodbye Kristen Wiig received in May 2012 after seven years on the show. There were flowers during tonight’s curtain call, but they were from Jost to the finale’s host, his wife Scarlett Johansson.
Of the current longtimers, only Che has said publicly that they would be leaving after this season, but it was during a stand-up performance, and he has also said that in the past. He didn’t give any hints of a pending exit in tonight’s closer.
Several other veteran SNL cast members have alluded in interviews and social media posts that they may leave but there were no signs of that in the finale either, like the way Kate McKinnon got choked up in her final episode.

It was largely business as usual. And, surprisingly, it was one of the busiest current cast members from the more recent SNL additions, Sarah Sherman, who was called out by Johansson in her opening monologue.
“It’s been a great season / and Sarah is leaving / we’re all gonna miss you next year,” Johansson sang, to which shocked Sherman responded, “Wait, what? Did you guys hear something? What do you mean leaving?”
It was a joke; Sherman likely was picked because she is not a departure suspect. During the curtain call at the end of the episode, Sherman was one of two cast members Bowen Yang was seen giving lengthy embraces to, along with Nwodim. While he has been an SNL cast member for six seasons, Yang has been on the show for seven, having started as a writer. And he has seen his feature career explode, opening new opportunities for one of SNL‘s MVPs.
The finale also addressed wide spread speculation that Jost is among the top contenders to succeed Michaels at the helm of SNL when he retires. Michaels had suggested that would leave after the show’s milestone 50th anniversary but subsequently walked that back, saying that there was “no immediate plan” for him to step down.

In the latest edition of Weekend Update‘s infamous — and hugely popular — semi-annual Joke Swap between Che and Jost, the latter had to open with this line he was made to read:
“It’s SNL‘s 50th season, so I want to take a moment to say something to our boss, Lorne Michaels. Lorne, retire b*tch! Let me run the show.”
Jost had to revisit the subject at the end of the segment when he was prompted to put on red lipstick before saying another line written for him by Che, “Lorne, I’ll do anything to run this show.”
Later, during the curtain call, Jost’s wife, Johansson, gave Michaels a shoutout, congratulating him on SNL‘s 50-year run. “You are a singular man, we love you and thank you,” she said.
It is unclear when we will get news on departing SNL cast members. Traditionally, veterans who decide to leave make the announcement in the weeks following the season finale. After taking some time off, Michaels gets back to it by July, with decisions who would not be asked back usually made in August-early September.

Efforts by Republicans at all levels of government to make the populace more ignorant are, unfortunately, going great. As of 2023, 28 percent of American adults ranked at the lowest levels of literacy. Compared to the last decade, American students’ math scores have dropped steeply in an international test. And as if chipping away at the teaching of basic skills wasn’t enough, officials in Republican-led states have been on the march against sex education for years. Soon, you might not even be able to do your own independent study on the subject: the latest page from the Project 2025 playbook is a Republican bill to ban all pornography in the U.S. In our current era of prudishness, Netflix’s Big Mouth feels like a precious resource we should protect at all costs.

Jamie Lee Curtis has a really good reason for signing on to hawk pantyhose, yogurt and rental cars despite being a huge star.
In an interview that aired on CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday night, the actress was asked why she signed on as a spokesperson for L’eggs pantyhose, Activia yogurt and Hertz rental cars while her acting career was thriving. She began pitching those products despite starring in the critically acclaimed A Fish Called Wanda (1988), which earned her a BAFTA Film Award nom, and amid the success of True Lies, which earned her a Golden Globe and pulled in about $387 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1994, among other noteworthy credits.
Curtis shared perhaps a perfect response for this question, given that it aired on Mother’s Day.
“For the most part, because [doing the commercials] allowed me to stay home with my kids,” she shared. “I am an imperfect working mom.

Not every Saturday Night Live sketch is destined for viral glory, even if Andy Samberg is behind the idea. And that's especially true if Lorne Michaels himself hates it.
The sketch in question is "Lamps" from a 2008 episode hosted by Hugh Laurie. The clip resurfaced recently on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, where Meyers prompted his former SNL colleagues to recall Lamps, a strange sketch involving singing lamps
In the sketch, Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Laurie played lamps that come to life and burst into song once their human owners (Fred Armisen and Michaela Watkins) leave the store. Things take a turn when the lamps are caught mid-serenade and must go to absurd lengths to cover up their sentient secret.
The Toy Story-inspired concept sounds absurd, but not too far off from what SNL audiences would expect from Andy Samberg. But according to former head writer Rob Klein,...

Kristen Wiig plays an eccentric, if not villainous cat lady in the trailer for Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie from DreamWorks Animation, which dropped an official trailer on Thursday ahead of a Sept. 26, 2025 theatrical release.
The Ryan Crego-directed hybrid live-action and animated film has Laila Lockhart Kraner reprising her titular role from the Gabby’s Dollhouse TV series, and on a road trip with her Grandma Gigi, played by Gloria Estefan, to the urban wonderland of Cat Francisco.
But when Gabby’s dollhouse ends up in the hands of oddball cat lady Vera (Wiig), Gabby, now wearing her magical cat ears, and Grandma Gigi on board as back-up set off to save the dollhouse before it’s too late.
“This dollhouse will complete my cat collections,” a sinister Vera says at one point in the trailer before driving off with Gabby’s prized possession. The film was penned by Crego with...

It's hard enough coming up with one sketch for an episode of Saturday Night Live, let alone for year after year. That's been the experience for one SNL cast member who admitted to "sketch fatigue," putting their future in question.
Season 50 of Saturday Night Live is two episodes away from ending. And with the end of any season comes the possibility of cast turnover. No one has officially announced their plans to exit, but one cast mmeber dropped a possible hint.
Heidi Gardner chatted with former Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson on his podcast Joy. The Saturday Night Live cast member shared things have become a "little tough" for her at the show after eight seasons.
“I will say the only thing that I’ve started to feel a little bit is just sketch fatigue, or idea fatigue,” Gardner said. “At this point, after doing Groundlings and SNL for so long,...

Jon Hamm and John Slattery will work together again on David Wain and Ken Marino’s new R-rated comedy that currently remains untitled, but I bet they have someone on the team who can come up with something marketable.
Early on in their careers, Wain and Marino had a habit of turning relatively-to-completely unknown actors into massive stars through projects like their cult-hit comedy Wet Hot American Summer. Between Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler alone, the veterans of the massively influential sketch comedy group The State are some of the most important kingmakers in the history of comedy, TV and film, and their breakthrough hit parody of 1980s teen sex comedies spawned both a prequel and a sequel series on Netflix that attracted big-name talent.
For Wain and Marino’s next project, they’re returning to the R-rated sex comedy format, only, instead of turning their actors into Emmy-worthy A-listers,...

It's almost time to bid farewell, but not goodbye to the Bridgeton teens. Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the eighth and final season of Nick Kroll's animated comedy Big Mouth, teasing what's to come for Nick and his friends as they navigate a whole new set of challenges as high-schoolers. After graduating from middle school back in 2023, milestones are about to hit the kids hard and fast as they not only deal with their changing bodies, but also navigate sexual inexperience, drugs, driving, porn, cancel culture, and fear of the future in a complicated environment. In the end, however, what they'll need most to survive this overwhelming time is friendship and support from each other.

To quote Nick Kroll’s Maury, “It’s the end of a very gross era.” “Big Mouth” dropped the trailer for its eighth and final season on Wednesday, and it’s just as upsetting and surprisingly sweet as this raunchy animated comedy has always been. The longest-running scripted Netflix original will premiere on May 23.
“Do you schmucks even know why you go through puberty?” Natasha Lyonne asks as a sassy new teacher. The video then cuts to a series of embarrassing scenes, from Missy (Ayo Edebiri) accidentally farting on another student’s lunch to Jessi (Jessi Klein) panicking about her Pms. But it’s not all humiliating bodily functions. The trailer also shows Lola (Kroll) introducing Matthew (Andrew Rannells) to something called the gay pornscape, a colorful land filled with men happily exploring their various kinks. Chris Hemsworth Shared Ghostbusters Experience For Thor ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Back in 2016, Chris Hemsworth took a detour from hammer-throwing superhero action to join an all-new kind of team. He signed on for Ghostbusters, the reboot of the iconic ’80s franchise, this time led by an all-female cast including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
Hemsworth wasn’t the main lead of the film, but he still had quite an intriguing character to play. He portrayed Kevin, the group’s dim-witted but lovable receptionist, and on the surface, it might’ve seemed like a step down for a Marvel star. But as it turns out, Ghostbusters taught Hemsworth something crucial, changing the way he approached acting.
In interviews with Esquire, Hemsworth has spoken openly about how much the Ghostbusters’ experience meant to him. For an actor who had been used to carefully sticking to the script, working with...

The Hollywood formula is simple: If a movie is good, people instantly assume that it will get a sequel. But some stories are simply better left as one-offs — at least that's what director Paul Feigtold Collider's Steve Weintraub at a recent Q&a for his new film, Another Simple Favor. Feig is an accomplished director, bringing us some of our favorite projects, including several episodes of The Office, the female reboot of Ghostbusters, and the hit comedy Bridesmaids. The Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig film is a beloved classic, meaning people often ask if there will be a sequel to the film.
During his Q&a with Weintraub, Feig brought up working with multiple cameras. He spoke about Bridesmaids and shooting Wiig and Rudolph and the coverage he could get on them by "cross shooting." Feig bringing up the film allowed Weintraub to ask if there was ever a chance...

Per Entertainment Weekly, Taccone recently recalled driving out to Malibu to meet Kilmer at his home for a conversation about his role as the villainous Dieter Von Cunth in 2010's MacGruber feature film. "I go in the house, and he's on the balcony...throwing these little chips or something into the ocean, and he's going, 'Are you a king? Are you a king?' I was like, 'What? What?' And he comes back into the room. He's turned away from me. And he comes back into the room, and he starts tossing these little paper chips at me...and I'm like, 'What are these?"
"And I started looking at them, and it takes me, like, a couple minutes to figure out that he was invited to Mardi Gras that year to play King Bacchus,...

Blake Lively Among Hollywood Stars Named In Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025 List (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Blake Lively isn’t letting recent drama dim her spotlight. In the middle of a firestorm surrounding her legal clash with It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni, the actress turned heads for an entirely different reason: she just landed on Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025 list.
The 37-year-old actress was named in the Titans section, alongside Serena Williams, Mark Zuckerberg, Joe Rogan, Simone Biles, Lorne Michaels, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, Palantir’s Alex Karp, Adl’s Jonathan Greenblatt, and fashion powerhouse Miuccia Prada.

Even with the heat of accusations, including one from storyboard artist Talia Spencer, who told 60 Minutes Australia that Lively tried to wrest creative control from Baldoni, Blake Lively took the high road.

Time magazine has announced its annual list of 100 most influential people in the world, and the entertainment industries are represented this year by, among others, Demi Moore, Snoop Dogg, Ted Sarandos, Lorne Michaels, Nikki Glaser and Broadway’s Nicole Scherzinger, playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and Daniel Dae Kim, who appeared in the play Yellow Face this season.
In all, more than a dozen entertainers are featured on this year’s list, including Scarlett Johansson, Ed Sheeran, Kristen Bell, Adrien Brody, Blake Lively, Rosé, Jon M. Chu, Danielle Deadwyler, Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Diego Luna, Hiroyuki Sanada, Mohammad Rasoulof, Hozier, Myles Smith, Yoshiki, and more.
As is its custom, the issue pairs the influential with guest contributors for write-ups. The 22nd annual list features, for example, Shonda Rhimes on Ted Sarandos, Will Ferrell on Lorne Michaels, Amy Poehler on Rashida Jones, Chris Evans on Scarlett Johansson, Hoda Kotb on Snoop Dogg, Patti LuPone on Nicole Scherzinger,...

Aimee Lou Wood made waves last weekend when she called out Saturday Night Live for a White Potus sketch that featured a “mean” impression — mainly, Sarah Sherman impersonating Wood with a massive pair of prosthetic front teeth. “Last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin-skinned. I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits,” she said on her Instagram Stories, per Deadline. “But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.”
Wood is hardly the first to get prickly about SNL’s insensitive impressions. Here are seven more celebrities who hated being ridiculed on Saturday Night Live…
1 Britney Spears
Spears might be the first celebrity to get irked by two different impressions.
When Chloe Fineman goofed on Spears after she released her audio biography, she fired back through her manager. “Wow. The writers...

I’m not slowing down, but that rumored 1993 spinoff? Yeah, even I’ve got to admit, it’s a bit of a mystery. Supposedly a full-on tribute to Kevin Costner, it’s the kind of thing fans would eat up… if it ever sees the light of day. With my plate already overflowing and a few behind-the-scenes hiccups, this love letter to the Yellowstone legend feels like it’s stuck in development limbo.
Will it gallop onto our screens, or stay a dusty pitch in the writer’s room? Well, ideas are there, the outline’s been kicked around, but as far as real movement is concerned, it’s stalled.
Taylor Sheridan’s 1993 spinoff sounds epic, but he’s too busy running Yellowstone to make it real Taylor Sheridan as Travis in a still from Yellowstone | Credits: Paramount Network
1993 sounds like the kind of Yellowstone spinoff I’d throw my wallet at.

Game-show parodies are an SNL staple for a reason — they have a built-in beginning, middle and end with a format that can showcase weird characters ranging from the Coneheads playing Family Feud to Kristen Wiig’s clueless Mindy Elise Grayson screwing up Secret Word. Kudos to Jon Hamm for creating a new character that feels very specific to 2025 — the reluctant contestant who’s afraid to speak for fear of becoming internet-famous.

Hamm is Paul from Burlington, a reluctant player on Guess! The Correct! Answer! “Pretty nervous, not gonna lie,” says Paul about embarking on the game. The reason? “I have a great life, and I’m afraid I’m going to do something embarrassing here that could go viral and sort of ruin it all.” Turns out, he has good reason to be afraid.

Jon Hamm’s monologue on “Saturday Night Live” was a self-deprecating bit about the slew of cameos he has had on the show through the years, and was interrupted by his frenemy Kieran Culkin.
“I know a cameo may seem inconsequential, but it really is an important part of the show,” Hamm said. “Like when a sketch needs that little something extra to take it from a medium sketch to a marginally better than a medium sketch, or when a monologue is feeling aimless and it needs a jolt of energy.”
Culkin then entered the stage in a meta moment.
“What are you even doing here? This is my monologue,” Hamm said.
“I know, I’m just making a cameo,” Culkin said
“Why? I’m a huge star and I’m doing really well all by myself,” Hamm replied.
Hamm then demanded Culkin’s Oscar and the two squabbled about...

Jon Hamm will return to host Saturday Night Live for the fourth time this weekend. And while there’s no Four-Timers Club, maybe we’ll get another sketch about the joy of eating cured meats while you’re taking a dump?
Play
Hamm first appeared on the show way back in 2008. In addition to “Jon Hamm’s John Ham,” the Halloween episode also found the actor impersonating James Mason for a Vincent Price-themed sketch, playing the unfortunately-named Butts City Council candidate Pat Finger, and interrogating a trick-or-treater who may or may not be a registered sex offender.
But coming just one year after Mad Men premiered, there were obviously a number of sketches dedicated to the award-winning AMC drama. Like “Don Draper’s Guide to Picking Up Women,” which featured helpful tips such as “look fantastic in a suit,” “lie to everyone about everything” and “drink and smoke constantly.

At first, the beef between Saturday Night Live and Morgan Wallen seemed like a misunderstanding. Sure, Wallen walked off stage while the credits were rolling, but that was an honest mistake, right? His “Get me back to God’s country” Instagram Story might have been Wallen ready to end a long work week. But considering the way SNL called out Wallen on last week’s show, he must have been a pain in the ass after all. The incident inspired a Reddit thread on r/LiveFromNewYork where fans recalled other times SNL clapped back at guests after they turned in problematic performances.

Yeah, something was up. After Wallen ghosted the cast during SNL goodbyes, Kenan Thompson told Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not.” Thompson...
