As one of the most prolific and successful mystery writers of the past 30 years, it's unsurprising that many of Harlan Coben's novels have been adapted for the small screen by a streamer like Netflix. Featuring more twists and turns than a country lane, Coben's stories are perfectly suited to the miniseries format. However, some have been more successful than others. Of the eight Coben books so far adapted, most have enjoyed a generally positive critical reception.

Productions of Safe, The Stranger, The Woods, The Innocent, Stay Close, and Fool Me Once have all been rated as "Fresh" on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes – further highlighting just how suited Coben's writing is to television. Foundation season 3 adds actors from Game of Thrones, Succession, and American Horror Story in a new casting update. Premiered on Apple TV+ in 2021, the sci-fi show is an adaptation of author Isaac Asimov's expansive series of the same name which chronicles the century-spanning saga of the Foundation, an organization of outcasts who oppose the Galactic Empire. The ensemble Foundation cast includes Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, and Terrence Mann.

According to Deadline, the Foundation season 3 cast has added Cherry Jones, Pilou Asbæk, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Brandon P. Bell, Tómas Lemarquis, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing, and Leo Bill.

Munich-based arthouse distribution company Prokino Filmverleih has locked German-language and Swiss rights for the unconventional Icelandic road trip film “Driving Mum” from production-distribution outfit Alief (“Matadero”).

The project won the Grand Prix Prize for best film at the Tallinn Black Night Film Festival, earning additional accolades for its affecting score. It was also chosen as an Industry Select title at 2022’s Toronto Festival.

The deal, brokered between Miguel Angel Govea, a partner at Alief, and Ira Von Gienanth, managing director of production, acquisitions & sales at Prokino, comes ahead of the feature’s European Film Market screenings in Berlin.

“We’re thrilled to close German rights with Prokino. Ira and the team are a perfect match for Hilmar’s sentimental yet quirky tribute to motherhood,“ Govea remarked in a statement.

The Rock of Ages is made by Australian filmmaker Eron Sheean, though it's really an Icelandic production. The distant past. A soldier of uncertain provenance (of which army? which era?) stumbles through a vast, desolate landscape, attempting to outrun the evil he's done. While fleeing his enemies, he encounters an odd talking rock which promises to grant his deepest desire. Starring Tómas Lemarquis as the soldier, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as the rock. The talking rock is an actual practical set piece, animated by a puppeteer - Izabela Claudia Mos. It was shot on Iceland, hence why it all looks so gorgeous. I just love how visceral and authentic this looks, and the rock reminds me of classic 80s movies like The NeverEnding Story & Labyrinth.

Icelandic production company Ursus Parvus has released a new trailer for upcoming black comedy road trip movie, “Driving Mum.”

The film is in official competition and will celebrate its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival on Nov. 19. The film was also chosen as one of the 2022 Industry Selects at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Bruce McDonald’s horror premiered at the Brussels International Film Festival.

Paris-based sales agent Reel Suspects has acquired worldwide rights to Bruce McDonald’s English-language horror title Dreamland ahead of the film’s North American premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal this month.

The film premiered at Brussels International Film Festival in April.

McDonald’s credits include Pontypool and Hellions, which premiered at Toronto and Sundance respectively.

Dreamland stars Stephen McHattie, Juliette Lewis, Henry Rollins and Tómas Lemarquis and tells the story of a gang who employ a world-weary hitman to cut off a finger from a famed heroin-addict trumpet player.

It’s hard to choose the most arresting scene in “Touch Me Not,” the documentary/narrative hybrid that captivated jurors at the 2018 Berlinale to earn the festival’s top prize. There’s the opening shot of a flaccid penis, of course, but nudity quickly loses its luster as the various depictions of sex unfold like a kaleidoscopic tour through human sexuality. It’s hard to forget watching a woman (Laura Benson) who can’t stand being touched encounter a portly Bdsm expert punch her chest in a steady, thumping rhythm until she lets out a guttural roar. Or witnessing the intimacy required for a reserved man with alopecia (Tómas Lemarquis) to admit to a man with spinal muscular atrophy (Christian Bayerlein) the discomfort he feels during their prolonged eye contact.

Directed with sensitivity by Romanian filmmaker Adina Pintilie, the two-hour epic is a mesmerizing look at human sexuality from a wide diversity of perspectives.

It’s ironic that Adina Pintilie’s “Touch Me Not” was received as something of a provocation when it premiered at (and won) the 2018 Berlinale, because for all of its nudity and kink — its unashamed erections and Bdsm — this beguiling film is defined by an almost childlike innocence. Of course, almost and childlike are the critical words, there; this is a movie that opens with a middle-aged woman paying a male prostitute to masturbate in her sheets so that she can sniff them after he leaves, so please don’t think that IndieWire is suggesting you take your kids.

Logan doesn't just take influence from westerns: there's classic sci-fi and a bit of Shakespeare in there too...

Logan sees the second appearance in the last 12 months of the mutant Caliban in cinemas, having been played in X-Men: Apocalypse by Tómas Lemarquis and now appearing in the (excellent and very effective) form of Stephen Merchant in Logan. There is a reason that, whatever continuity snafus might ensue, Caliban is an important inclusion in a film with very few mutant characters. The influence of Westerns (particularly, of course, Shane) on the film is obvious, but equally important are echoes of two other productions: classic 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet and the Shakespeare play that it’s loosely based on, The Tempest.

Trying to figure out the timeline of the X-Men Universe requires a genius level Iq and a lot of patience, and where Logan fits into things is hard to say. It seems to reference X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a movie wiped out of continuity by X-Men: Days of Future Past, while also loosely tying into both that and The Wolverine.

Confused, yet? Well, one thing which fans have been questioning for a while now is how and why Stephen Merchant could be Caliban after Tómas Lemarquis played the same character – a good 50 or so years earlier in history terms – during the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, James Mangold and the writers Scott Frank and Michael Green have served up a brutal bloodbath of a movie that still manages to have a heart. Now that the WponX Instagram page seems to have stopped debuting cryptic black and white images from James Mangold’s Logan, we’re beginning to see some official, full-color movie stills emerge. This latest one has been scanned from the new issue of Empire Magazine and provides another look at the mutant bloodhound known as Caliban, who’ll be played by British actor/writer Stephen Merchant.

The character actually made his big screen debut in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, where he was played by Tómas Lemarquis – but continuity has never really been a major concern for Fox’s X-Men franchise. To be fair, though, that movie was set in the ’80 while the events of Logan are supposed to take place at least 40 years later, so there’s always a chance that this is simply supposed to be an older incarnation of Caliban – even if he doesn’t actually look that much different.

Having endured what felt like an age of promo pictures and vague teases, it’s a big relief to say we’ve finally got a decent glimpse at Logan, the third solo Wolverine film starring Hugh Jackman. And, dare we say it, it looks pretty great.

After directing The Wolverine (which we can all agree is better than Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine), James Mangold has returned to the fold to helm what everyone is referring to as Mr Jackman’s final appearance as the cigar-chomping, bub-saying and claw-sporting mutant hero Wolverine.

Between them, James Mangold, Hugh Jackman and the film’s official Instagram account – known as wponx – have proven bustling sources of content for Logan, the R-rated X-Men sequel that’s deep in production ahead of its bow in March.

With each day that passes, a new black and white photo claws its way onto the interwebs, and over the weekend a new pic asked the whereabouts of all the mutants. Retaining the monotone aesthetic, embedded below are two new cryptic images for Mangold’s threequel, though it’s really the one up top that will really steal the headlines.

Continuity has never exactly been a The X-Men movie franchise's strongest suit, and that's never been more apparent following the release of this latest Logan image from director James Mangold. A recent rumor suggested that The Office co-creator/writer Stephen Merchant was going to play Caliban in the final Wolverine flick, but fans were hesitant to believe this as that character had only just appeared in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, as played by Tómas Lemarquis. After teasing fans with a ruined rendition of Cairo, Bryan Singer and 20th Century Fox have now offered the stage to the fresh-faced stars of next year’s summer blockbuster, X-Men: Apocalypse.

Those wet-behind-the-ears mutants comprise Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Jubilee (Lana Condor) and ­Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, who also happens to be one of the Four Horsemen. Ever the advocate of sharing the ol’ behind-the-scenes snap from set, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has revealed another image from the hotly-anticipated sequel that not only hints at a decimated Cairo, but also confirms the film’s time period as 1983.

What this means is that the rubble and ruins pictured are situated in the present, rather than acting as part of the villain’s origins via a flashback. Despite taking place a full decade after the events of Days of Future Past, Singer’s superhero flick will tackle the topic of ancient mutantism, with Apocalypse rounding up his Four Horsemen – namely Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Ben Hardy’s Angel – to rule over both humans and mutants.

Chicago – As a director, Kevin Costner comes across as a patient guy who waits for the right material to come along. Considering the last movie he helmed is a little over ten years old (“Open Range”), one might also consider him picky too.

As an actor, it feels like Costner woke up one recent morning and thought, “Hey, I should do a handful of movies in a row. I’m not getting any younger!”, which is why we had that “Jack Ryan” movie last month, “3 Days to Kill” this month and next month’s “Draft Day”, with two more movies still on their way this year. Hopefully he’s planning on taking 2015 off entirely.
