Self Help marks the feature directorial debut of Flora Birnbaum, a 2017 Sundance New Voices Fellow. As expected, the show’s only lead acting submission is star Seth Rogen, who plays the newly hired head of the fictional Continental Studios in the Hollywood satire.

The film marks the second project the multi-hyphenate — whose sixth studio album, “Brat,” continues to be a phenomenon — is producing through her new Studio365 banner, joining upcoming A24 movie “The Moment.” Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Miike is known for his depictions of extreme violence, as seen in his 1999 cult classic “Audition” and 2001’s “Ichi the Killer.” Ross Evans, whose script “How to Save a Marriage” is being developed for Sony with Robert Pattinson attached to produce, is penning the screenplay. Yumiko Aoyagi is co-writing.

Since launching “Brat” in June of last year — which earned the pop star three Grammys and was widely regarded as the best album of 2024 — Charli has turned her attention toward acting and producing, lining up an impressive array of projects.

This new film will be titled The Invite and has been adapted by Rashida Jones and her writing partner Will McCormack, whose credits include Celeste & Jesse Forever. The Invite will be about “a couple [who] invites the neighbors over, igniting an evening full of unexpected twists and turns, revealing deeply repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.”

Variety reports that Wilde has her cast with Seth Rogen starring in the film alongside Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz. The production has already started in Los Angeles. The comedy will be produced by Ben Browning of FilmNation Entertainment, along with Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, and David Permut. Additionally, Annapurna’s Head of Film and Television, Patrick Chu, is on board as an executive producer.
