“Alex in Wonderland” is a darkly comedic coming-of-age drama about freedom and rebellion. The six-part TV series created and written by Mandi Riggi, and produced by Kevin Comer of Psychonaut Films, will take part in the drama series pitching competition this week at the Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo (Mia) in Rome.

Inspired by her own Iranian roots, “Mercy” is the feature debut of British-Iranian director Mandi Riggi. Andrew Eaton (“The Crown”) will executive produce, with a cast that includes F. Murray Abraham, Hiam Abbass, Emun Elliott, Sarah Snook and Yasmin Paige. The film was selected for Mia’s co-production market and pitching forum.

“Mercy” draws on Riggi’s upbringing in the U.K., where she lived until the age of 14, after her parents left Iran in the wake of the 1979 revolution. Though they arrived “with hope in their eyes” and plans for a better life, the director said the bittersweet decision weighed on them long afterward.

Living in a caravan with his volatile and violent brother Polly (a convincingly wired Morgan Watkins), 15-year-old Richard befriends Yasmin Paige’s Annabel, whose family owns the land they live on. Somewhere in what would seem to be East Anglia, judging by the road names, two brothers live together in a fetid caravan. Older brother Polly (Morgan Watkins), a bad-tempered thug, does the bare minimum to look after the younger Richard (Scott Chambers) who has learning difficulties but a gentle soul. Richard’s only friend is his pet chicken Fiona, a docile bantam he takes everywhere, until he makes friends with new neighbour Annabel (Yasmin Paige, from Submarine).

Exclusive: Korean sales agent has taken international rights to Joe Stephenson’s directorial debut.

Seoul-based sales agent Mirovision has picked up international rights outside of the UK to Joe Stephenson’s Chicken.

Starring Scott Chambers, Morgan Watkins and Yasmin Paige, the feature debut premiered at last year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival. It also screened at the Busan International Film Festival where Mirovision founder Jason Chae met the filmmakers.

Based on Freddie Machin’s stage play of the same name, the film revolves around an optimistic teenager with learning difficulties, his abusive older brother and the older girl he falls in love with. The play was adapted for the screen by Chris New.

“The film is a fresh, impressive debut and we’re very pleased to have come on board for world sales,” said Chae. “We hope to start picking up more English-language titles. Our aim is to work with new talents and help them in the...

Channel 4 drama Glue captivated audiences in 2014, and now the series's official soundtrack has been released.

Ivor Novello-nominated composed Walter Mair produced the score for the show, which followed events surrounding a murder in rural England.

Mair said: "Glue was a fantastic experience that required me to leave the picturesque countryside of England behind and dive into a gloomy and sinister England.

"The music focuses on the relationship between the main characters and their playful and emotive nature, which ultimately heads into much darker territory."

Glue director Daniel Nettheim added: "Walter is a wonderful collaborator and true craftsman of music for the screen.

"His entrancing score elevates the emotion and drama of the series to another cinematic level."

The official Glue soundtrack is released by eOne Music.

It turns out it's pretty bleak growing up in the countryside. If you're not driving yourself into oblivion on drugs or struggling with money problems, you're probably going to end up dead. Well, that's what we've taken away from 8 episodes of E4 drama Glue, anyway.

The murder mystery, touted as Skins meets Broadchurch, failed to tweak viewers' imaginations over the past two months (only 187k tuned in for last night's finale), and responses online seemed much frostier than the critical hype that came before the show aired.

Maybe it was all just too dark and the characters were too unloveable - at least at the very beginning - for it to build up any sort of following. From the cocksure Rob (Rizzle Kicks's Jordan) to the insular Tina Fallon (Charlotte Spencer), the show was perhaps missing an emotional core, someone you could root for.

This new American drama series, starring John Simm and Mira Sorvino and produced by BBC America, makes its debut on British screens tonight.

Ex-lapd cop Jack Whelan (Simm) investigates a secret society dedicated to achieving immortality. The first two episodes kick the mystery off as Whelan's wife, Amy (Sorvino), vanishes on a business trip, and Jack uncovers unanswered mysteries trying to find her.

Gotham: Channel 5, 9pm

Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) are on the trail of a vigilante who uses balloons to kill his victims.

Elsewhere, against Gordon's warning Oswald Copplepott (Robin Lord Taylor) returns to Gotham bent on revenge against Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).

The Walking Dead: Fox, 9pm

Season Five in the post-apocalyptic, zombie horror series continues.

Things are looking dire for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang - but they just might have a plan to gain the advantage.

The Walking Dead: Fox, 9pm

The Walking Dead's fifth season continues tonight as Rick Grimes's group, still splintered and in peril, continue to try and survive the zombie apocalypse.

This episode sees Rick lead a mission for desperately needed supplies - but as usual, danger lurks around every turn.

After a successful festival run, Richard Ayoade's film "The Double" is making its way to screens this weekend. E4 has announced a cast of rising stars for its new drama Glue.

There's a brief blast of A Girl Like You before UK directors James Hall and Edward Lovelace's documentary, about the post-stroke recovery of Edwyn Collins, jumps off the deep end.

Collins suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 2005. He was hospitalised for six months. He lost his memory; his speech was destroyed. He was cast off from his previous persona – as the singer/songwriter who fronted the Scottish alt-rock band Orange Juice. He was left out in open water.

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

The story centers on meek office-drone Simon James (Jesse Eisenberg) who is overlooked by everyone he knows including his crush, Hannah (Mia Wasikowska). Jesse Eisenberg goes head-to-head with his doppelgänger in the teaser from Richard Ayoade's new film.

The story centres around downtrodden worker Simon James, who encounters his double James Simon.

His physical twin is more confident and clever, and is soon threatening to steal his job and the girl of his dreams Hannah (Mia Wasikowska).

Sally Hawkins, Wallace Shawn, James Fox, Paddy Considine, Noah Taylor, Yasmin Paige, Craig Roberts, Chris O'Dowd and Chris Morris also feature in the film.

Ayoade and Avi Korine wrote the script inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky's novella.

The director is best known from his role in British comedies The It Crowd and The Mighty Boosh. This is his second film following 2010's Submarine.

The Double will arrive in the UK on April 4 and in the Us on May 9.

Ahead of its UK theatrical run in April, an enthralling full trailer has been released for Richard Ayoade’s The Double, much of it set to the ever distinct sound of Rade Serbedzija’s voice; according to IMDb, the actor plays Frightening Old Man in the film. Based on the Fyodor Dostoevsky novel, this is a dark comedy about a man (Jesse Eisenberg) driven mad by a doppelganger. The main cast also includes Mia Wasikowska, James Fox, Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor and Yasmin Paige, the latter two being returning cast members from Ayoade’s Submarine. Jesse Eisenberg plays the double role of Simon and James in Richard Ayoade's film, which is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novella The Double: A Petersburg Poem.

In the teaser trailer - titled '2 Snakes' - a voice is heard warning Simon that his double (James) will take control of his life.

The movie - which brings the events of the novella forward to the present day - follows Simon, a government clerk who becomes convinced that his doppelgänger has stolen his name, face and identity.

Arriving in our cinemas in the spring, the latest trailer for Richard Ayoade’s The Double has arrived, setting the tone very nicely for one of the most unique films of the year.

Loosely based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic novella, the comedy/dramatic-thriller stars Jesse Eisenberg in the dual leading roles opposite Mia Wasikowska.

The film bowed out in Toronto last year – you can read our review here – before crossing the Atlantic for an appearance at the BFI London Film Festival, which is where I saw the film. It’s another instant hit from Ayoade, who made a brilliant directorial debut with Submarine, and is very much still on form with this sophomore feature.
