Johnny Cage will join Earthrealm's warriors in Mortal Kombat 2, but his integration into the movie is more complicated than it might seem to be. 2021's Mortal Kombat brought the beloved fighting game franchise back to the big-screen, this time focusing on a new protagonist named Cole Young (Lewis Tan). A struggling Mma fighter, Cole learns that he is a descendant of Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and joins Earthrealm's fighters for the upcoming martial arts tournament known as Mortal Kombat, in order to save the world from the conquest of Outworld.
At the end of Mortal Kombat, Cole and his fellow Earthrealm warriors set about recruiting new fighters to stand against the next battle with Outworld, with Cole headed to Los Angeles to recruit action movie star Johnny Cage. Mortal Kombat 2 is poised to deliver on that tease, with Karl Urban to portray Johnny Cage in the sequel. However, Johnny...

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Perhaps today is a good day to die! More than 20 years since his last appearance as the Klingon warrior, Michael Dorn returns as Worf in the second episode of Star Trek: Picard season 3, “Disengage.” His big entrance in the episode is one of the first major twists in the new season of Picard, and sets up Worf’s role for the next several episodes, including his unlikely partnership with Raffi.
While “Disengage” actually ends by confirming that Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) is in fact Jean-Luc’s biological son, the real twist here is that Worf is Raffi’s secret handler from Starfleet Intelligence. Just as Raffi’s cover is about to be blown in a Ferengi crime den, Worf charges in, slicing and dicing, just like the good old days. This is even more hardcore than anything we saw from the Klingon in...

Disney’s ‘Secret Society of Second-Born Royals’ features princesses, superheroes and action. Now streaming on Disney Plus, the film follows Sam (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), the second-born princess of the kingdom of Illyria. She lives in the shadow of her perfect older sister, Eleanor (Ashley Liao).
Sam is sent to summer school, and discovers she’s actually entered a training program for second-born royals, who each have unique superpowers to help secretly protect their kingdoms. There, she’s joined by fellow second-borns January (Isabella Blake-Thomas), Tuma (Niles Fitch), Roxana (Olivia Deeble) and Matteo (Faly Rakotohavana) to learn from their instructor James (Skylar Astin).
For director Anna Mastro, ensuring the safety of her cast was of upmost importance. Mastro recruited Matt Mullins (“Ford v. Ferrari”) as her trusted stunt coordinator to work with the team and train them in their newfound superpowers.
How did working with a group of kids differ from working with an individual actor?...

On last week’s episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Skye (Chloe Bennet) got a chance to shine when she used her combination of S.H.I.E.L.D. training and Inhuman powers to take down Hydra and save Lincoln from a fate worse than death. The director of the episode, Kevin Tancheroen, also got a moment to shine with his single-take action sequence that was more reminiscent of dance choreography than modern television cinematography. HitFix Harpy spoke with Tancheroen by phone about how that jaw-dropping scene came to be. But first, see what all the buzz was about! Hitfix Harpy: Thanks for taking the time to talk about that amazing sequence last week. It was great to see something so stylistically complex on primetime television. Kevin Tancharoen: I’m so happy that you liked it. It seems there’s a lot of people responding to it. I talked to Matt Mullins,...

One of the most talked about (and gif'd about) moments of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. occurred early this season, when Ming-Na Wen's Agent May ended up in a fight with her own doppelganger (a.k.a. a brainwashed Hydra agent). The scene was a beautifully choreographed dance of stunt work that, like most sequences on the show, looked effortless—but in reality, took a village to pull off. "There was one solid 16 hour day, but there were also two half day and quarter days," explained stunt performer Samantha Jo of the resulting two minute sequence. "So it really spanned over 3 full days.

There’s no escaping just how influential the French comic anthology Metal Hurlant has been to comics, science fiction and fantasy. Of course some of you may be thinking: “Metal Hurlant. What’s that?” Well for those outside of its native France its much more widely well-known as Heavy Metal, the cult comic that launched careers and spawned two movies – the animated flick Heavy Metal in 1981, and its lacklustre sequel Heavy Metal 2000, which debuted 19 years later in, surprise, surprise, 2000.
Seven/Social Network director David Fincher has been trying to get a new Us adaptation of the comic off the ground for years, but it looks like the French have beat him to it with the new series Metal Hurlant Chronicles, which is an anthology show much like the classic shows of yesteryear such as The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits et al.

So it looks like Kevin Tancharoen is going to get his chance to bring the fighting video game Mortal Kombat franchise back to the big screen. This is the guy who directed the Fame remake and the Glee 3D concert movie but none of those failures won him this gig. It was instead the virals that got fanboys tongues wagging last summer when he self-financed a promo trailer for what he could do if he was even given the chance to bring the world’s greatest fighting tournament back into theatres.
Titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, the original 8 minute viral was of surprisingly high production value and included some recognisable faces, including Michael Jai White as the character Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and explained in length the back-stories for Reptile, Baraka, Scorpion and a really well put together fight scene involving Johnny Cage.

It began last June when the nearly 8-minute longform trailer you see above for a supposed movie titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth hit the Internet and was viewed by millions of people. Shortly thereafter a nine-episode web series titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy was launched this last April, directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame, Glee 3D). Now New Line has decided the experiment was a success and has tapped Tancharoen to direct a feature film based on the popular fighting game back to the big screen.
This will mark Mortal Kombat's return to theaters after a 1995 adaptation and the 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Somehow it all started with what was basically a fan-film, but Mortal Kombat will be getting a live-action reboot feature film. In January 2010, we reported that Warner Bros. was considering a new Mortal Kombat movie and hired Oren Uziel to write the script. In June, director Kevin Tancharoen (Fame) teamed with Uziel to put together an unauthorized viral short film as a calling card to reboot the franchise. That short film blossomed into the ten-part web-series Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, written by Uziel and directed by Tancharoen. Now the web-series has finally brought forth the film reboot. Deadline reports that New Line Cinema, which is owned by Warner Bros., has picked up the movie. Fittingly, Uziel will write the script and Tancharoen will direct. While Tancharoen's take was a little too serious for my tastes, it's neat to see the journey of this movie and how their dedicated effort has come to fruition.

New Line Cinema is bringing back Mortal Kombat, setting up a live-action reboot of the martial arts-heavy franchise that will be written by Oren Uziel and directed by Kevin Tancharoen. The director wouldn’t be the first guy one would think of for a chopsocky action film given a resume that includes Fame and, most recently, Glee: The Documentary, the 3D concert movie that didn’t do much business this summer. But both of those guys have earned the work, since it was their unauthorized viral short that breathed life into a dormant franchise. Uziel wrote and Tancharoen directed the eight-minute short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which starred Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion and Lateef Crowder as Baraka. Tancharoen did this with the idea that he could prove himself to Warner Bros as an action...

[1] The first three episodes of Kevin Tancharoen's web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, have focused on Earthlings Sonja Blade (Jeri Ryan), Stryker (Tahmoh Penikett), Jax (Michael Jai White) and Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins). For the fourth installment, the series leaves our planet behind for the land of Edenia, which has been taken over by the sinister Outworld empire. The new episode, titled "Kitana & Mileena (Part 1)" follows the origin of the Edenian "sisters," portrayed here by Samantha Tjhia and Jolene Tran. Aleks Paunovic plays their "father" Shao Khan, and Beatrice Ilg is Kitana's mother. Watch it after the jump. [via ScreenRant [2]] I'm not too well-versed in Mortal Kombat mythology -- I was always more of a Street Fighter girl, myself -- so I can't speak to how faithful these webisodes have been to the source material. What I can say is that I've been enjoying the series so far. The stories are definitely entertaining,...

Written by Kevin Tancharoen , Aaron Helbing and Todd Helbing, “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” is an anthology of nine live action shorts, and brings to life the motivation behind each character’s participation in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Each episode will provide never-before-revealed insights into characters featured in the upcoming videogame as well as the game’s universe. We've already seen the original versions of these 2 episodes but now director Kevin Tancharoen and YouTube channel Machinima have released the unrated versions of both episodes. The unrated versions are quite a bit better, I think these are the ones they should be releasing first. The Johnny Cage episode felt a little weak to me, and I cant say I'm a fan of Matt Mullins as Cage, but the unrated version was a bit better. The next episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy airs on Machinima this Tuesday.

Tancharoen Scores Big With Third Entry In New Web-Series.
The third entry in Kevin Tancharoen's web-series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy is easily the best released so far. Riding high on the action-heavy first episodes that introduced Jax, Sonya Blade, Stryker, and Kano to eager audiences, Tancharoen breaks off and brings us a new character, the fallen martial-arts star, Johnny Cage.
Cage is played by 5-time martial arts champion Matt Mullins (who currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Shorei Ryu and is best known for his work on the Discovery Channel, having co-founded Extreme Martial Arts). Bringing in such a remarkable fighter is simply another example of Tancharoen's desire to showcase the brutal realism of Mortal Kombat while maintaining a distance from the supernatural elements of the video game series. And as Episode 3 showcases, it works like a charm.

The third episode of 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' has hit Machinima's YouTube channel. You can watch it below. Taking the focus off of Sonya Blade and Jax, this episode is all about Johnny Cage. (Matt Mullins) A former cast member of the 'Power Rangers,' Cage is a little down on his luck, desperately trying to find work as an actor. An expert martial artist, Cage seeks to prove that he's the real deal. 'Legacy' comes from director, Kevin Tancharoen. His short film, 'Mortal Kombat: Rebirth' stirred up so much interest upon its release on YouTube that it can be credited with reviving interest in 'Mortal Kombat' outside of the video game realm. The director is hoping that this web series will stir up enough interest to get a live-action theatrical film in the works with him at the helm. For now, the series has done well enough that Warner Bros.

Kevin Tancharoen's Brutal Reimagining is Effectively Realistic.
When the trailer for Director/Choreographer Kevin Tancharoen's reimagined Mortal Kombat debuted last June there was much confusion and debate as to what exactly online audiences had just watched. Fans were left with more questions than answers as Tancharoen's realistic renditions of Midway's famous fighters appeared and set the tone for what looked to be a new feature, short film, web-series or video game.
Now with the release of the first episodes of Mortal Kombat: Legacy this month, those questions were finally answered with fans receiving a sort of "Ultimate Experience", their beloved fighters getting a realistic overhaul and redefined backstories. Tmp watched the first two episodes of the brutal new web-series and had a quite a bit to take home afterwards.
Tancharoen is obviously aware that the vast majorty of the American population knows who the characters are and their functions within the series.
