The Marvel Character You Likely Didn't Realize The White Lotus Star Carrie Coon Played
Image
Carrie Coon is a gift. Ever since she made her Broadway debut as Honey in the 2010 revival of Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," she's been one of the most sought-after actors for the kinds of roles that are reserved for performers who have that extra oomph factor. It's an ineffable quality. You just know it when you see it, and Coon possesses it in spades. She was transcendent on television as the grieving Nora Durst in "The Leftovers," the dogged sheriff Gloria Burgle in "Fargo" season 3, and would-be New York City socialite Bertha Russell in "The Gilded Age," and has also been sensational in movies like "Gone Girl," "His Three Daughters," and "Lake George." Coon is both an invigoratingly versatile actor and an arresting presence regardless of her character's demeanor.

When Coon was cast for the third season of Mike White's acerbic actors' showcase "The White Lotus,...

The massive world of the MCU empire allowed her to collaborate with several Hollywood icons, so it’s not a surprise that she got to work with a fellow Marvel star again outside of the Avengers realm.

Elizabeth Olsen And Carrie Coon Went From Marvel Foes To Estranged Sisters

Helmed by Azazel Jacobs for Netflix, His Three Daughters starred Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne as estranged sisters who reunite to take care of their sick father. Fans would immediately recognize Coon as Proxima Midnight, the adoptive daughter of Thanos and a member of the Black Order.

Report: David Fincher to Direct Unforgiven-Style Western at Netflix
Image
The next project at Netflix for David Fincher has reportedly been revealed. It's the newest project made for the streamer by Fincher after previously working on titles like Mindhunter, Mank, and The Killer.

Per What's On Netflix, Fincher is next set to direct Bitterroot, a Western movie originally titled as Big Hole. The screenplay, by Michael Gilio, was initially featured as part of the 2008 Black List. There have been previous attempts to get the film made after the screenplay drew high praise, and Gilio was planning to direct at one point. For whatever reason, the project has stalled in development hell ever since, but it would seem the team-up of Fincher and Netflix will be what finally gets Bitterroot made.

10 Best Movies Like Hit Man

Hit Man showcases a versatile Glen Powell in Linklater's best film yet, blending comedy, action, and film noir effortlessly. The high-rated Hit Man is bolstered by Powell and Arjona's chemistry, blending comedy and a unique take on identity. Viewers of Hit Man will appreciate similar humor in The Fall Guy's comedy roots and The Killer's dark, suspenseful genre.

There are several great movies to watch after Richard Linklater's Hit Man. The new Glen Powell film features the Top Gun: Maverick breakout star in his most versatile role yet, playing a loner college professor who moonlights as an assassin for his local police department. Already being considered one of the best movies of Richard Linklater's extensive career as a director and screenwriter, Hit Man blends several genres to create a well-balanced mix of screwball/romantic comedy, action-inspired thriller, and classic film noir. The Action Sci-Fi Flop That Almost Left Charlize Theron Paralyzed
Image
Charlize Theron has become a bonafide action star over the years, racking up roles in films including Mad Max: Fury Road and The Old Guard. A large part of this is due to her commitment to physical needs for these roles — Theron's Atomic Blonde stunt double Monique Ganderton would be the first to tell anyone this. "Charlize is tough. She knows she’s going to get tagged, but also when to keep her distance. If something goes wrong in a film, she has the confidence to pull it back together," Ganderton told Elle UK. But when she filmed Aeon Flux, Theron was nearly paralyzed when a stunt went horribly wrong.

The Killer 2 Chances Addressed By David Fincher After Massive Netflix Success
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Killer.

David Fincher doesn't rule out the possibility of a sequel to The Killer, saying "Never say never." Netflix's The Killer tells a complete story and ties up most narrative threads, meaning a sequel isn't really necessary. However, the ending leaves the door open for a follow-up movie and the popularity of the film means there could be interest in seeing the story continue.

The Killer director David Fincher addresses whether The Killer 2 will happen. Released on Netflix last week, Fincher's latest thriller sees Michael Fassbender starring as a nameless assassin, whose carefully organized life slowly falls apart after a job goes wrong. The film, which serves as a reunion between Fincher and Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, has been met with positive reviews from critics, and has become a major streaming success on Netflix.

Now, with The Killer's ending having left room for more story,...

Mindhunter Director's New Netflix Thriller Becomes Huge Global Hit
Image
The Killer, directed by David Fincher, is currently the top-ranking English-language movie on Netflix, attracting 27.9 million viewers and 55.7 million hours viewed. David Fincher first collaborated with Netflix on House of Cards and has since worked on shows like Mindhunter and directed movies like Mank. The movie is the latest directorial effort from David Fincher, who began a lucrative relationship with Netflix after executive producing their early hit show House of Cards, later becoming the unofficial showrunner and sometime director for the serial killer show Mindhunter. He also directed Mank, among other titles. The Killer stars Michael Fassbender as an unnamed assassin who isn't certain if he has a grip on his own mind.

Netflix has now calculated their global Top 10 chart for English-language movies.

The Killer Ending Explained: Accept Yourself
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "The Killer."How often do you think about your job? In terms of your daily duties, upcoming deadlines on your calendar, and other day-to-day issues, probably a fair amount. Yet how often do you consider your job — not just as a checklist but as a vocation — as something you're putting out into the world, as something that defines who you are as a person?

As the imaginary demon of toxic masculinity, Tyler Durden, famously says in David Fincher's "Fight Club," "You are not your job." Of course, Tyler is not to be trusted, and "Fight Club," like a majority of Fincher's filmography, is a pitch-black satire. What if you are your job, and what if your contribution to the world is both minimal and actively negative? What if your job, and all jobs, were this destructively banal, and everyone from sanitation staff...

How Atomic Blonde's Amazing Stairwell Fight Came Together
Image
Whether as an actor, stuntman, or director, David Leitch has been the architect behind some of the most captivating recent fight scenes in film. His catalog of work spans some of the biggest action movies of the last twenty years, including the last two films in "The Matrix Trilogy," "300," and "Deadpool 2."Although it was in Leitch's directorial debut, "John Wick," where he developed his signature for boldly executed action sequences that both captivate and drive the plot forward, he perfected his process on his second project, "Atomic Blonde."

One scene stands out in particular: the brutal 10-minute stairwell fight Charlize Theron's character, MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton, engages in near the end of the film. Inspired by the stitched-together long takes of Alfonso Cuarón's "Children of Men," Leitch admitted in a GQ interview he'd long had the idea to do something similar, but had never been able to implement it.

Carrie Coon Was Supposed to Return as Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Endgame
Image
At least one dead character from Infinity War was supposed to return in a bigger capacity in Avengers: Endgame, but that didn't quite work out. That character was Proxima Midnight, a member of the Black Order, who were Thanos' most trusted enforcers. The news was revealed by actor Carrie Coon recently, explaining that a scheduling conflict got in the way of her reprising the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the character does show up briefly in Avengers: Endgame, it was Carrie Coon's stand-in Monique Ganderton who played the part the second time around.

As McU fans may recall, Proxima Midnight met her demise while fighting Black Widow, Okoye and Scarlet Witch during the climax of Avengers: Infinity War. Be that as it may, directors Joe and Anthony Russo wanted Carrie Coon back for the sequel. Carrie Coon explained in a recent interview that The Russos wanted it to happen,...

Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (2017)
'Atomic Blonde' Director: How I Made Five Kick-Ass Action Sequences
Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (2017)
"In The Third Man, there's no one getting kicked in the face."

Director David Leitch isn't saying the classic post-war thriller suffers from lacking a critical face-kicking element – but let's just say his new movie takes full advantage of that missed opportunity. Set in East and West Germany in the winter of 1989 – the moment in which the Berlin Wall finally came down – Atomic Blonde sounds on paper like a John le Carré novel, pitting weary spies against each in pursuit of a list that could leave them all exposed. The former stuntman-turned-filmmaker,...

Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (2017)
‘Atomic Blonde’: How They Turned One Amazing Action Scene Into a Seven-Minute Long Take
Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (2017)
It’s one of the most stunning seven minutes of filmed action in years. Undercover MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) enters an apartment building to find and stop the snipers making it impossible to sneak her asset, Spyglass (Eddie Marsan), out of East Berlin. In one long take — or at least what would appear to be one — she fights a series of well-trained assassins, using both hand-to-hand combat and her gun in a scene that is both viscerally exciting and edge-of-your-seat thrilling.

IndieWire recently talked with Sam Hargrave, the “Atomic Blonde” second-unit director and stunt coordinator, who both choreographed and shot (camera operator) the scene to find out how they pulled off this remarkable piece of filmmaking.

Why a Oner

Director David Leitch was a legendary stunt coordinator/second-unit director in his own right – with “Bourne,...

'Atomic Blonde': Charlize Theron on Pulling Off Her Own Stunts, a Possible Sequel
Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde (2017)
Stunts and sequel potential were the hottest topics at Atomic Blonde's Los Angeles premiere Monday night.

In the action film based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, its star Charlize Theron was tasked with a slew of stunts. Lucky for her, the film's director David Leitch first started out in the stunt world, and along with the film's stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave and Theron's stunt double Monique Ganderton, everything went off without a hitch.

"We actively searched for something like this and then we developed it for five-and-a-half years, and I think you can't develop this for that long and not...

UnREAL (2015)
Review: ‘UnREAL’ Teases ‘Guerrilla’ Warfare Between Rachel & Quinn
UnREAL (2015)
Last Week’S Review: Review: ‘UnREAL’ Takes Aim at Confederate Flag Controversy

This Week on ‘UnREAL’…

It was all about the production in the third episode of “UnREAL.” Upset over their new boss’ inexperience (/existence), Rachel (Shiri Appleby) and Quinn (Constance Zimmer) put on a producing tutorial for trust fund kid Coleman Wasserman (Michael Rady): Quinn, proving yet again how unwilling she is to give up her hands-on role in “Everlasting,” recruited two contestants and pitted them against each other.

The result was better than she could have hoped for — at first. Brandi (Monique Ganderton) took things into her own hands at the obstacle course, chucking Chantal (Meagan Tandy) off a climbing wall. She still won the date, though, and Quinn coached her into confessing her darkest secrets from a rough adolescence…then, she told Darius it was all lies, in order to get the psychologically damaged contestant to snap.

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in American Ultra (2015)
'American Ultra' Trailer #3 Turns Jesse Eisenberg Into a Super Spy
Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in American Ultra (2015)
In case you missed the second trailer for Lionsgate's American Ultra that debuted earlier this month, the studio has released a third trailer, chocked full of action. Before he takes on the villainous role of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jesse Eisenberg portrays Mike Howell, a convenience store employee who is in for quite a rude awakening. After he becomes "activated," without even knowing it himself, Mike's incredible skills are put to the test.

American Ultra is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Jesse Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Kristen Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is...

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in American Ultra (2015)
'American Ultra' Trailer #2 Puts Hilarious Twist on Jason Bourne
Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in American Ultra (2015)
Lionsgate has released the second trailer for their upcoming action-comedy American Ultra, arriving in theaters August 21. The trailer actually expands upon a new movie clip that was released last week, which took place after the seemingly-hapless stoner Mike (Jesse Eisenberg) killed two men. We get to see what actually happens that leads up to this killing, and how Mike gets 'activated' as a sleeper agent.

The trailer sets up the premise that the government has been conducting secret experiments to create "super soldiers," with a number of sleeper agents living among us in plain sight, unaware of their actual abilities. We then see Mike working at a convenience store when a mysterious woman (Connie Britton) says a few key phrases that activate this agent, leading to him killing two men who are "doing stuff" to his car. Kristen Stewart also stars as Mike's girlfriend Phoebe, who gets caught in the middle of all the action.

The Cabin In The Woods (2012) Movie Trailer: Drew Goddard
The Cabin in the Woods Trailer. Drew Goddard‘s The Cabin in the Woods (2012) movie trailer stars Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, and Fran Kranz. The Cabin in the Woods‘ plot synopsis: “A group of five friends going on a quiet cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom what might possibly be going on just as time quickly runs out.”

This looks very interesting but they gave up some big surprises, big surprises. All the tech aspects should have been left out in my opinion.

For a few years now, there has been no small amount of mystery surrounding The Cabin in the Woods, the horror film directed by Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard and co-written by Goddard and Joss Whedon. At one point you could find a...
