James Gunn, I Wasn’t Aware of Your Game: Isabela Merced Was Born for Hawkgirl and ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Just Proved That
Image
James Gunn has a long list of actors ready to enter the Dcu, assigning them key roles in his soft reboot of the Dceu. While there have been some actors that fans are particularly fond of, there were a few that had fans questioning the choices of the director.

Apart from Superman himself, a slew of other DC heroes have been cast in James Gunn’s debut film in the Dcu, such as Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, Metamorpo, played by Anthony Carrigan, and Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced.

Merced has also appeared as Dina in HBO’s much-anticipated sequel season of The Last of Us. While there might have been some doubts about her casting in Superman, after seeing her adapt Dina to the screen, more than a few people were convinced that she was the right choice for Hawkgirl in the film.

DC's Teen Titans Movie May Have Already Quietly Spoiled Its Villains
Image
DC Studios, spearheaded by James Gunn, announced its initial slate of projects back in February 2023 that provided fans with a glimpse of what to expect from the Dcu, which will reboot the franchise. Similarly to the MCU, the Dcu will tell a long-form story across multiple mediums. Gunn's revamped DC Universe got off to a flying start with the crowd-pleasing Max series Creature Commandos and looks to continue its momentum this summer with the blockbuster release of Superman. While the Dcu is expected to introduce many of the biggest players from DC's Justice League over the course of the next few years, there will also be a number of villains who enter the fray. Notably, a live-action movie featuring two iconic Batman villains is reportedly in the works. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported in September that Matthew Orton, who worked on Captain America: Brave New World, is writing the...

Why Marvel Comics Originally Killed Off Captain America's Sidekick, Bucky
Image
Plenty of Marvel Cinematic Universe fans love Peggy Carter, but arguably just as many would've preferred that Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) end up with the other love of his life: Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). The silver screen versions of Steve and Bucky are childhood friends and about the same age; Bucky has known Steve since before he got juiced with the Super Soldier Serum, and had spent those years protecting him from plenty of ass-kickings. Movie fans might get the sense that Cap looked up to Bucky ... which is the complete opposite of the original comics.

In those, Bucky is several years younger than Steve. He wasn't Captain America's best friend, he was his kid sidekick. They first met at Fort LeHigh, where Bucky (the orphaned son of a soldier) was living. Depending on the telling, he was either directly assigned to Cap's side, or lucked into the...

“She’s campaigning for Wonder Woman”: David Corenswet’s Co-Star Can Be the Best Replacement for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman
Image
Superman actor David Corenswet is the new face of Boss The Scent and appeared in an ad for the brand. He followed in the footsteps of the previous Superman, Henry Cavill, who was the face of Boss Eyewear. Dcu fans have now eyes on an actress, who appeared alongside Corenswet in the Boss promotions, for a crucial role.

Eiza González, who recently appeared in Cavill’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, is now a favorite for the Wonder Woman role in the Dcu. Fans earlier campaigned for Ana de Armas to take on the role, however, rumors about her MCU debut have turned their attention to other actresses.

Treasure-Hunting Rom-Com 'Fool's Gold' Is a Streaming Success on Tubi for McConaughey and Kate Hudson
Image
Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson’s 2008 rom-com/treasure hunt movie Fool's Gold is pulling a decent audience on its new streaming home of Tubi, but that doesn’t detract from the complete disappointment the movie was on its original release. While the movie’s big name leads, who were joined by the late Donald Sutherland, managed to save the film from being a complete disaster at the box office, they could not save it from some terrible reviews.

The tropical, sun-drenched movie sees McConaughey playing Ben “Finn” Finnegan, a treasure hunter obsessed with finding the sunken Spanish galleon, the Aurelia, and its almost mythical cargo known as the Queen’s Dowry, so much so that it ruined his marriage. However, when he finds a new clue to the whereabouts of the treasure, Finn enlists the help of his former wife (Hudson), and billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Sutherland) to go off across the seas to locate it,...

Image
Warning: Spoilers for Wonder Woman #17The Titans have elected a new leader, and she's already proven to be just as skilled as Wonder Woman on the battlefield. Donna Troy - formerly Wonder Girl - is leading the Titans' charge for the foreseeable future as the team enters a new era, but not everyone is paying her the respect she deserves in her prestigious position. Now, Donna's latest fight has shown that she should be recognized as an equal to Wonder Woman.

In a preview for Wonder Woman #17 by Tom King, Daniel Sampere, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles, the Sovereign regroups after his operation has been exposed by Detective Chimp. Despite losing his wealth, though, he still has his team of Wonder Woman villains to protect him.

As the Sovereign plots his next move, he doesn't fear being attacked because the villains by his side have already incapacitated Wonder Woman before.

Teen Titans: Characters That Will Make Up Live-Action Movie Team Reportedly Revealed
Image
Following an initial online rumor, we got confirmation that a live-action Teen Titans movie was in the works at DC Studios back in March with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira enlisted to pen the script.

Updates have been few and far between since, but a recent Production Weekly logline did claim to reveal the key team members: "The Teen Titans are further apart than ever before… until Damian Wayne recruits Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and the new Kid Flash to join him in a fight against his own grandfather, Ra’s al Ghul."

However, we'd later hear that the movie will focus on a "pre-existing team being revived," which suggested that the roster would more likely consist of the original '60s comic book line-up: Kid Flash (Wally West), Robin (Dick Grayson), Aqualad (Garth) and Wonder Girl (Donna Troy).

Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that the movie's...

DC Is Settling the Debate: The Titans Have a True Leader, And It Is Definitely Not Nightwing
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Titans #18

The Titans are operating under new leadership now that Nightwing has stepped aside and promoted Wonder Girl to the role of leader as his replacement. Nightwing has spent years commanding the Titans, so following Donna's orders doesn't come easily to him, creating friction between them as they butt heads. Donna Troy is officially the Titans' leader, and she's ensuring that everyone knows it - especially Nightwing.

In the preview for Titans #18 by John Layman and Pete Woods, the Titans have relocated to a new underground base called "Titans Tunnels", which the team isn't too thrilled about. Nightwing critiques Donna's decision to relocate - citing the Justice League and Titans' dismay - and suggests that she should lift their teammates' spirits, like he would.

Wonder Girl is quick to shoot Nightwing's ideas down and remind him that she's replaced him as the Titans' leader. Like it or not,...

10 Movies That Perfectly Blend Adventure & Romance
Image
The romance genre might have a reputation for telling sentimental and sweeping stories, but it's easy to forget that there are typically exciting subplots that feature additional thematic tension. This is especially true with movies that blend the best parts of adventure films into the structure of a romance movie, or vice versa. While daring chase scenes, action-packed fight sequences, and races to unearth buried treasure have enough built-in drama on their own, this can only be elevated through a romance plot. That extra layer of tension and intrigue makes for a relentlessly compelling movie that's worth rewatching.

Though many adventure films make the love story the side plot, some of these action-packed romance movies have complex relationships at the heart of the narrative. Films that tackle both love and action understand that what propels these plots forward is the character development and the dynamics between them. It's common for...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Cast Of The 1970s Wonder Woman TV Series
Image
The 1975 TV series "Wonder Woman" is deeply beloved by dutiful Gen-Xers who watched it as children. The show's combination of silly action, funky music, and campy humor hit a sweet spot, presenting the title heroine as bold, strong, and capable, but also upbeat, happy, and capable of whimsy. Also, because lead actress Lynda Carter is so dazzling, many Gen-Xers may confess to having a crush on Wonder Woman at some point. The series was a hit, lasting 59 episodes over three seasons. Along with 1952's "The Adventures of Superman," 1966's "Batman," and 1978's "The Incredible Hulk," "Wonder Woman" was, for many decades, one of the most celebrated superhero TV shows ever made.

"Wonder Woman" began its life as a 1974 pilot starring Cathy Lee Crosby, as a reimagined version of the character. That pilot didn't fly, but ABC was eager to do something successful with the character and launched a second pilot...

Why Now is the Perfect Time for DC's Young Justice to Make a Comeback
Image
With the Titans serving as Earths primary defenders in the Justice Leagues place post-Dark Crisis, Young Justice absolutely needs to make a return. For a long time, the Teen Titans have served as a way for young heroes to gain experience in a team setting. Briefly, they even opened a school for younger heroes to learn tactics from past Titans members, but that chapter also closed with Dark Crisis.

With the Titans taking the Justice Leagues place, it's time for Young Justice to rise as well.

With the Titans no longer welcoming newcomers, it's time for DC to bring back its second team of young heroes. Young Justice last appeared in Dark Crisis with its tie-in series Dark Crisis: Young Justice by Meghan Fitzmartin and Laura Braga, which brought back the team's original lineup - including Robin, Superboy, Impulse, Wonder Girl, and Arrowette - to acknowledge the parts of their history that havent aged well.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Zero Hour 30Th-anniversary Special #1!Over the years, DC has introduced various incarnations of the Justice Leagues next-gen Trinity to replace Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. However, many of these versions have fallen short, with successors often feeling forced or simply not fitting well. Now, DC has presented a next-gen Trinity that most fans will undoubtedly be able to get behind.

Although there is a strong argument that Batman and Superman should be succeeded by their sons, it feels more fitting for Clark and Bruce to be replaced by Supergirl and Batgirl.

Dan Jurgens and Ron Marzs Zero Hour 30th-Anniversary Special #1 sees Green Lantern Kyle Rayner transportedmore accurately, Flash-napped by Wally Westto an alternate timeline vastly different from his own. In this bizarre new world, the Parallax-infected Hal Jordan has created a reality where his beloved Coast City survived its original destruction by Cyborg Superman. However,...

The Return of 1 Teen Titan's Classic Costume Makes Me Want to Cosplay Them More Than Ever
Image
Im a die-hard Wonder Woman cosplayer and have never been tempted to cosplay any other DC characters, even though Im practically obsessed with some of the Teen Titans. But the return of one iconic Titans costume has finally changed my mind. Its time to expand my horizonseven if Im still staying loyal to the Wonder-Family.

Worlds Finest: Teen Titans by Mark Waid and Emanuela Lupacchino gives the original teen superhero team a modern-day reimagining, bringing back the iconic members Donna Wonder Girl Troy, Dick Robin Grayson, Roy Speedy Harper, Wally Kid Flash West, Karen Bumblebee Beecher, and Garth, Aka Aqualad, for an epic retelling of their earliest adventures.

While I might be a little late to the party, I am thoroughly enjoying the series so far. One aspect that has really stood out to me is the variant covers, especially the ones featuring Donna Troy in her red and white Wonder Girl glory.

Dcu Rumor Round-Up: Supergirl Casting; Booster Gold Creative Team; Teen Titans Movie, And More
Image
With Warner Bros.' new Dcu still in its infancy, we haven't seen that many rumors doing the rounds online. But with production gearing up for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and James Gunn and Peter Safran slowly starting to turn their attention to future projects, we do have a few intriguing reports to share.

It's pretty much been radio silence on the live-action Teen Titans movie since it was first announced back in March, but a recent Production Weekly logline claimed to reveal the key team members:

"The Teen Titans are further apart than ever before… until Damian Wayne recruits Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and the new Kid Flash to join him in a fight against his own grandfather, Ra’s al Ghul."

This may be accurate (it was never confirmed or debunked), but we're now hearing that the movie will focus on a pre-existing team being "revived," which may...

“They really couldn’t think of any other way to kill her”: DC Fans Still Haven’t Forgiven Titans For One of the Most Awful Deaths Ever That Makes No Sense
Image
When their time comes, superheroes go out with a bang. They sacrifice their lives to save the world in a grand gesture of heroism. Take Black Widow and Iron Man for example, they didn’t think twice before sacrificing themselves for the greater good. However, when Titans’ Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl tried to do something similar, it wasn’t quite appreciated by the fans, for all the right reasons, may we add.

Conor Leslie as Wonder Girl in Titans | Credits: Warner Bros. Television

Played by Conor Leslie, Wonder Girl was a main character in seasons 2 and 3, after having a guest role in the first. However, things didn’t end too well for her when she collapsed to her death in the finale of season 2. The episode was released toward the end of 2019 but fans still have a hard time making sense of her awful and absolutely unnecessary death.

5 Young DC Heroes the Dcu Must Use (and 5 It Can Skip)
Image
The DC Universe by James Gunn and DC Studios will be hitting the ground running by introducing classic DC characters in a semi-established shared universe in its first several projects. This opens the door for various DC teams and groups to appear, including the Justice League, the Justice Society and the Teen Titans. The latter is poised to have a movie project of their own.

This sense of legacy will be strong in the Dcu, and it already is in the comic books. While there are several great young heroes in the DC Comics universe that might work well in its cinematic counterpart, there are others that likely might not fit as well. For this reason, James Gunn and Peter Saffron could still be selective about which young heroes fight alongside the most iconic superheroes in upcoming projects.

Teen Titans Rumor All But Confirms Gal Gadot’s Replacement is Coming But it Won’t be Diana Prince

DC fans are currently looking forward to the slew of projects that are set to kickstart James Gunn’s Dcu, and Teen Titans is close to the top when it comes to the most hotly-anticipated projects. Currently set to be in the ideation process, recent updates have revealed that instead of focusing on the team featuring the likes of Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg, the movie is set to be based on an earlier roster of the Teen Titans, as seen in the comics.

That, in itself, not only sets up one major part of the Dcu’s future, but also potentially gives an update to one major character that has been featured in DC live-action previously, in the form of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Early rosters of Teen Titans, which was created in the comics back in 1964, featured Dianna Troy as Wonder Girl, Prince...

Glen Murakami: 2 Superheroes Were Blockaded from Teen Titans Because “We wanted to show characters that hadn’t been seen before”
Image
Going out of the box is probably one of the best and yet, one of the rarest strategies that filmmakers and showmakers use. However, that wasn’t the case with Teen Titans which made the show very popular, especially among kids.

A still from Teen Titans

With its premiere on July 19, 2003, Teen Titans entered into the world of cartoons with a bang. The show premiered on Cartoon Network channel with its first two seasons also available on Kids’ WB. It immediately became a popular show with its funny and interesting characters. Major credit behind its success surely goes to its creator and developer, Glen Murakami.

In fact, due to a big step taken by Murakami regarding the show, the entire world saw and recognized a few characters of the show who were earlier mildly known.

Titans' Demon Lord Trigon Admits 1 Shocking Hero Is His Biggest Threat
Image
Trigon fears Donna Troy due to her unstoppable willpower. Donna Troy's life is in danger as Trigon manipulates Raven against her. Titans must save the world and Donna from Trigon's dangerous plans.

Out of everyone in the Titans, Raven's father, Trigon, fears one hero more than anyone else: the former Wonder Girl, Donna Troy. Trigon has been manipulating things behind the scenes, and he's not worried about any of the Titans getting in his way — except for Donna. Despite his power, Wonder Girl has one trait that makes her too much for the demon to handle.

In Titans #9 by Tom Taylor and Lucas Meyer, Trigon continues to control Raven for his own uses, making her into the Dark-Winged Queen: a possessed version of the normally heroic character. When controlling Raven, Trigon has no problems with bragging to her about how unstoppable he is. After all, he's already meddled with Dick Grayson...

Exciting Bat-Family Casting Just Got Way More Likely After Major Warner Bros. Update
Image
Timothée Chalamet has locked down a multi-year deal with Warner Bros., making his potential involvement in the Dcu more likely. Chalamet has long been fan-cast as Dick Grayson/Nightwing, something that could become a reality due to his new WB deal. The confirmation of a Teen Titan movie in the Dcu, likely to star Nightwing, makes the fan cast even more possible.

A long-theorized Bat-Family fan cast for the DC Universe has been made more likely by a major Warner Bros. update. Since James Gunn's Dcu movie and TV slate was announced, updates about each property have been regular. Above all else, the Dcu's flagship project has received a slew of casting updates as well as a production start date: James Gunn's Dcu Superman.

However, another more recent confirmation was the Dcu's Teen Titans movie. The film will star the titular team, bringing DC Comics characters like Beast Boy,...

The Dcu Now Has The Perfect Opportunity To Fix A Dceu Wonder Woman Problem
Image
The DC Universe's Teen Titans movie can expand the Wonder Woman family lore and introduce characters like Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark. The Dceu never properly introduced the Wonder Woman family, but the upcoming DC Universe films have the opportunity to do so effectively. Including characters like Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark in the Teen Titans movie can set the stage for further expansions of the Wonder Woman family across multiple movies and shows in the DC Universe.

With a live-action, DC Universe-set Teen Titans movie seemingly in the works, the new DC movie continuity can continue to explore the lore of Wonder Woman that began in the DC Extended Universe. The Dcu will be a partial reboot of the Dceu timeline, with some characters and storylines – such as Peacemaker and Xolo Maridueña’s iteration of Blue Beetle – carrying over into the new universe. The Dcu's Teen Titans Movie Is The Perfect Introduction For The Dceu's Forgotten Justice League Member
Image
The Teen Titans movie offers the perfect opportunity to give Cyborg the spotlight he deserves in the Dcu. The Teen Titans lineup remains a mystery, and speculation is rife about which young heroes will team up in the upcoming DC Universe film. The Dceu failed Cyborg, but while his potential was not fully realized in Justice League, the new movie offers a chance for redemption.

The Dcu's Teen Titans movie is the perfect opportunity to introduce one of the Dceu's Justice League characters whose story wasn't executed correctly. Little is known about the recently announced Teen Titans movie, except that Ana Nogueira will pen the screenplay. The roster is unknown, meaning speculation is starting about who will be on the team. When the Teen Titans first started, the team included Kid Flash, Robin, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl. However, the team most viewers are familiar with, thanks to the animated projects,...

Why A Dcu Teen Titans Movie Beating Justice League's Reboot Is Secretly Very Smart
Image
Releasing a Teen Titans movie first in the Dcu allows the universe to build and grow at its own pace - avoiding past Justice League mistakes. The Teen Titans' various ties and relationships can set up wider Dcu connections and can tee up upcoming projects. The Titans have taken over for the Justice League in current comics, depicted as an older team that the Dcu could also emulate.

Having a live-action Teen Titans movie before a Justice League feature in the Dcu is secretly a genius move (in more ways than one). Confirmed to be in development, DC Studios' rebooted DC Cinematic Universe will soon include a movie starring one of the most classic superhero teams beyond the Justice League. A group of younger heroes who were once the sidekicks to some of the DC Universe's heaviest hitters, there are several key advantages to debuting the Titans on-screen before the League.
