The Environmental Media Association kicked off its ninth annual Impact Summit on Thursday, rolling out a two-day lineup of stars and activists for wide-ranging conversations about the environment.

A large focus of the summit’s first day was discussing the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires that devastated the Pacific Palisades and Altadena areas earlier this year. Ian Somerhalder is reacting to his wife Nikki Reed‘s controversial film Thirteen.

If you didn’t know, Nikki co-wrote and starred in the semi-autobiographical movie in 2003, which depicted underage substance abuse and sexual behavior.

Kids’ content is a dominating force on digital platforms–and a big business, with giants like Moonbug, Pinkfong, and WildBrain making tens or hundreds of millions of dollars from IPs they built on YouTube.

Now a new company, helmed by a team of writers, directors, producers, and executives with experience at YouTube, Nickelodeon, Disney, Apple TV+, and Max, wants a slice of that pie.

The Kids’ Table, which describes itself as “a premium content company for creators and brands,” launched this week, promising it “will provide the expertise to deliver high-quality, evergreen stories and build franchises that reach kids wherever they are, on screens, platforms, and devices worldwide.”

It’ll do that by offering individual content creators and companies original IP development, help with adapting existing IPs into other mediums, content slate building, production resources, and licensing. It says digital distribution of these IPs on YouTube “will play a key role” in its overall strategy.

A group of kids & family executives, writers, directors, producers from Nickelodeon, Disney, Apple TV+, YouTube, and Max have launched company The Kids’ Table, focused on producing and distributing content targeting kids and family audiences across platforms.

It plans to team up with brands which have not had significant exposure in film TV or digital as well as YouTube creators for original IP development, adaptation of existing material, content slate building, full-scale production, content extensions, and licensing. The idea is for the content to be financed by the brands before it is taken out to streamers.

“We are not consultants,” co-founder Chris Viscardi said. “We’ve spent our entire careers crafting characters, creating unforgettable worlds, and producing stories that kids and families return to again and again. Now, we’re ready to deliver the same results to brands.”

Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, has enjoyed a successful acting career since Lost. However, the actor might not be interested in returning to Hollywood. After The Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder joined the cast of another vampire series, V Wars, where he starred alongside his wife, Nikki Reed. The couple has since moved out of Los Angeles to pursue farming. They welcomed their second child and co-founded a tech-powered supplement brand called The Absorption Company last year.

Somerhalder tells People that he believes his acting career is "in the rearview mirror." Though they have recently "got the rights back for V Wars," he isn't sure if a television series would happen. Ian Somerhalder is reflecting on walking away from acting.

In an interview with People published Monday, the Vampire Diaries star explained why he stepped away from the screen to pursue various passion projects. The actor’s comments come amid the CW show’s 15th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Lost, both shows on which he starred.

“Aug. 19 makes five years since I was professionally on camera as an actor/producer,” Somerhalder said. “I stepped away from that after V Wars to build these companies, launch films like Kiss the Ground, Common Ground and Ground Swell and raise my kids. I remember sitting with my management talking about this, saying, ‘Hey, this is the only thing I’ve ever known that’s ever sustained my family, and I’m walking away from it,’ at this sort of peak, could have gone and done anything, but these partnerships mean way more to me.

The streamer has given a straight-to-series order and begun development on a show based on Midnight Sun, author Stephenie Meyer’s companion novel to her mega-selling Twilight series. The book is a retelling of the events of Twilight from vampire Edward Cullen’s point of view; the main series is told from the perspective of Bella Swan, the human object of Edward’s fascination.

Lionsgate Television, which began early development on a Twilight TV project last year, will produce the series. Lionsgate’s film division released the four Twilight movies.
