Sue Johanson, Canada’s most beloved and celebrated sex educator, has died. She was 93.
Johanson rose to fame first in Canada with her call-in radio and television programs, both titled Sunday Night Sex Show. A U.S. spinoff followed, called Talk Sex With Sue Johanson.
According to reports, Johanson died in a long-term care facility in Thornhill, Ont., surrounded by family.
Chances are if you grew up between the late 1980s and early 2000s, you’re familiar with Johanson.
Through her programs, she taught many Canadians how to have safe sex and, also, how to enjoy it. No topic was too tough or taboo for Johanson, and fans found her no-limits style refreshing and funny.
Johanson would wade into conversations, sometimes to the network’s chagrin, about anal and gay sex, fetishes and sexual issues in the queer community, all of which were often considered taboo topics when her show was on the air.

The series, which will also feature “Chelsea Lately” favorite Heather McDonald and “Hairspray” actress Marissa Jaret Winokur, will “take on the latest headlines, break down the ‘behind closed doors’ conversations about sex and love,...

Jessica Alba is late in her pregnancy, so she took the opportunity to talk to renowned sex educator Sue Johanson on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35Pm Et on NBC). Her concern was one shared by many couples during pregnancy.
"As someone who's in the later stage of pregnancy, is there any way to harm the baby during intercourse?" Alba asked.
"That baby is in there and that baby ain't going nowhere until it's ready," Johanson assured her. "That uterus wall is just like that," she said knocking the arm of her chair. She then painted a picture of the cervix smiling from intercourse and things got a little weird.

PopWatchers, clear your calendars on Valentine's Day. Forget the romantic dinner, the slow jams, the ring-in-the-champange proposal. Stay home and watch TV. Specifically, Tyrannosaurus Sex, the Discovery Channel's "new special that investigates dinosaur reproduction" and uses "ground-breaking CGI bring new life to one of the last mysteries of these great beasts." Excuse me while I go boil my brain in holy water and try to hang on to the last pure memories of Jurassic Park. The press release for the show is a thing of both beauty and terror -- not unlike a dinosaur, really. "Tyrannosaurus Sex doesn’t just answer the questions,...

Can you imagine if Talk Sex with Sue Johanson, my favorite Canadian grandma who wields dildos and lube like they're freshly picked apples on cable TV, was aired in the Middle-East? Let the beheadings begin as the Saudi Arabian office of a Lebanese television station was shut down after the station aired an interview with a Saudi man who bragged about his sex life, according to CNN. The Lbc (Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation) was closed for "two reasons," Abdul-Rahman Al-Hazza, spokesman for Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Culture and Information, told CNN. "No valid operating license, and a violation of media policy in Saudi Arabia." He told CNN that the Lbc "violated the media policy by filming and subsequently...

Late last night, Oxygen aired the last episode of its popular call-in show, Talk Sex with Sue Johanson.
The series began as a Canadian call-in show back in 1996. It was extremely popular and featured sex educator Johanson offering colorful and up-front sexual advice. Reruns of the series were picked up by Oxygen but American audiences became frustrated by not being able to call in.
As a result, Talk Sex with Sue Johanson debuted in 2002. The 77-year-old grandmother became very popular and has become a frequent guest on the late night talk show circuit.
Almost six years later, Talk Sex has come to an end. Though the series is Oxygen's highest-rated late-night show and the current season boasted its highest ratings among viewers, the elder host realized it was time to go. Because of the show's call-in format, the midnight show couldn't be prerecorded and the timeslot was apparently wearing of Johanson.

Goldie Hawn stirred up a controversy on American TV this morning when she argued with sex expert Sue Johanson about unfaithful men. The actress told the hosts of TV magazine show The View that she understood why men cheated - because it was "biologically correct in the species." Hawn explained, "I think that a lot of people cheat, they don't tell that they're cheating. I think that there's a great promise to believe you can be with one person only for the rest of your life." Goldie revealed she never asks about her partner of 22 years, Kurt Russell's infidelities. She added, "It's just the way I try and keep myself feeling happy because otherwise we're going to be feeling miserable all the time because women's relationships with other men, and the way they get turned on, is quite different. It's much more personal, it's more sensitive. Frankly, how would you like it, as women, to have testosterone running through your body every day; walking out and having to deal with this every day when they don't have control." And, after the outraged hosts of the all-woman show lashed out at their guest for her comments, sex expert Johanson was called in to comment on the free-spirited star's notion that men can't help but cheat.
