Louis Frémaux was born on 13 August 1921 in Aire-sur-Ia-Lys, Pas-de-Calais, France. He was married to Nicole Petitbon and Cécily Hake. He died on 20 March 2017 in Avaray, Loir-et-Cher, France.
French orchestra conductor, he made important recordings of French composers with the CBSO of Birmingham where he was principal director before having the same job at the Sydney Symphonic Orchestra in 1979. He was before the director of the Monte Carlo Opera orchestra and the first director of what is now the Lyon Orchestra .
