Why Showrunner David S. Goyer Will Not Return for ‘Foundation’ Season 3
Image
The hit sci-fi series Foundation’s third season is set to release on July 11, 2025. David S Goyer, the show’s co-creator, has announced that he won’t return in his role as showrunner for the upcoming season. This decision was first announced in late 2023 and stemmed from reports of budgetary discord with Skydance Television, the production company of the show.

Even though Goyer has given up the day-to-day responsibilities, he remains deeply involved in the creative process of the show, being involved as an executive producer and a writer. The third season of the show will go on with new leaders as Bill Bost, the executive producer, will oversee the production process in Prague.

Production challenges and budgetary disputes in Foundation

Goyer, who ran the show for two seasons, was well-versed with the nitty gritty of production, and the only reason for him stepping down from his position was the budget conflict that erupted.

The 27 Best Movies Currently Not Streaming Anywhere: ‘Short Cuts,’ ‘Pink Flamingos,’ ‘Cocoon,’ and More
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2024 and has since been periodically updated.]

Last July, cinephiles and lovers of cult films were given a blessing from the movie gods: an honest to god rerelease of “The Fall,” Tarsem Singh’s singular 2006 fantasy adventure epic. The movie, which stars Lee Pace in a dual role as an injured 1915 Hollywood stuntman and the hero of an epic tale he spins for a hospitalized little girl, was greeted with mixed reviews but love from its biggest fans upon its 2006 Toronto Film Festival premiere. In the years since its premiere, the film has developed a passionate little fandom, but actually tracking it down has proven more difficult than it should be — it’s been completely unavailable on streaming for years.

With the July 15 news that Mubi would re-release “The Fall” latter that…uh, fall, that long drought finally ended. The arthouse streamer and distributer premiered the 4K restoration of Singh’s film at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival this August,...

One of Cannes’ Sexiest, Queerest Films Is Lucio Castro’s Mystical Art World Odyssey ‘Drunken Noodles’ — Watch Trailer
Image
One of IndieWire’s Best Queer Films of the 21st Century was Lucio Castro’s “End of the Century” from 2019, a slightly surreal will-they, did-they, won’t-they gay romance set in Barcelona. His follow-up film “After His Death,” about a woman (Mia Maestro) in freefall after an affair with an enigmatic musician (Lee Pace) who appears to quite literally have a cult following, premiered at the Berlinale and took Argentine writer/director Castro briefly out of the queer cinematic space.

But he’s back with another gay quasi-romance, this time in New York City, with “Drunken Noodles,” which feels like Apichatpong Weerasethakul directing an early ’80s New Queer Cinema indie. It has a lo-fi, shot-on-film aesthetic mixed with mystical elements, and it’s premiering in the Cannes Film Festival Acid parallel section later this month. Here, the mind-bending elements of “End of the Century” take on fuller force (and in...

The First Foundation Season 3 Trailer Teases The Villain Sci-Fi Fans Have Been Waiting For
Image
The future is now, old man ... but things are still looking a little hairy in the universe of "Foundation." Season 2 of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series left fans on one heck of a cliffhanger, shaking up the hierarchy of the Empire for good in the present but inadvertently causing ripple effects over a century down the line with the looming threat of the sinister Mule. Apple has released a new teaser for "Foundation" season 3, and it looks as thrilling, sweeping, and wildly expensive as ever. Set over 150 years after the events of the second season, war has once again descended upon the Cleonic Dynasty ... but not in the way we may have expected.

"If Peter Says 'Jump,' I Say, 'How High?'”: Orlando Bloom Would Be Keen To Play Legolas Again
Image
Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy brought to life the Third Age of Middle-earth in a way that had not been seen before. Jackson's movies were perfectly cast, with actors who perfectly embodied and delivered on characters fished out of J.R.R. Tolkien's lore. One of them was Orlando Bloom, who played the perfect archer, the Elvish prince, Legolas. Image
Mike Flanagan is set to re-team with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie, and the title role has now been cast.

Despite rumors that Hereditary star Milly Shapiro was in negotiations to play the lead, Variety is reporting that Summer H. Howell is "nearing a deal" to play troubled telekinetic teen Carrie White.

We had heard that Samantha Sloyan was being eyed to play Carrie's mother, Margaret White, but there's no mention of the character at all in this report.

At 20 years old, Howell is already something of a horror vet, having appeared in Child’s Play franchise films Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, as well as Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor.

The synopsis for this new adaptation reads: "A bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has...

Arnold Schwarzenegger gave his blessing to The Running Man remake
Image
Remaking a fan favorite is always a risky move. And while the power of Edgar Wright, Glen Powell and Josh Brolin is enough to restore confidence in the upcoming remake of The Running Man, it might take even more to get some on board. Enter the original Ben Richards, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who lent his support for the rerun after being tracked down by the director and star.

Glen Powell – who will be taking over the role of Richards, who has been forced to participate in the country’s most dangerous game show – recently revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger gave the go-ahead for The Running Man remake. Powell said that he used his friendship with Arnold’s son Patrick – and not his having already worked with him on The Expendables 3 – to set up a FaceTime meeting. “Arnold gave us his full blessing and we get to give Arnold a very specific...

“Arnold Gave Us His Blessing”: Glen Powell's ‘The Running Man’ Remake Earned Arnold Schwarzenegger's Stamp of Approval
Image
Glen Powell just dropped a major update on his upcoming remake of a classic action movie. Powell is set to star in The Running Man, which is coming to theaters on November 7 and is a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name. The thriller is set in a dystopian America where a falsely convicted policeman has a chance to earn his freedom when he is forced to compete in a game show that sees convicts, runners, and more fight to the death. Powell recently sat down with People Magazine to promote his upcoming line of condiments, Smash Kitchen, and he confirmed that Schwarzenegger gave them the go-ahead to make the movie:

“Arnold gave us his blessing. Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine, and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold and I hadn’t seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria. Arnold gave us his full blessing,...

Glen Powell Got 'Running Man' Advice from Tom Cruise
Image
One of Hollywood's most prominent actors today, Glen Powell, is set to star in Edgar Wright's upcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Running Man. While the movie requires an atypical amount of physical effort, Powell seems to be an actor who's physically fit for the role. Nevertheless, it looks like one of his mentors had a different opinion. Tom Cruise, his co-star in Top Gun: Maverick, had a very important piece of advice that didn't have to do with fitness routines. It had to do with determining how cool he could look while running.

Powell, as well as Wright and the rest of the cast, appeared at CinemaCon to present the film's first look and trailer. Per the report by Variety, Powell grabbed the mic and told the anecdote of calling his Top Gun co-star to ask for some advice. First, he said Cruise is "a guy that doesn't hide...

Glen Powell Says Arnold Schwarzenegger Gave His 'Full Blessing' to Remake The Running Man
Image
The star of Paramount Pictures' The Running Manreboot opens up about acquiring Arnold Schwarzenegger's blessing for the film.

Speaking to People, star Glen Powell discussed receiving original The Running Man star Arnold Schwarzenegger's blessing going into the reboot. "[His son] Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold and I hadn't seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria," Powell explained. "Arnold gave us his full blessing and we get to give Arnold a very specific fun gift from the movie in a couple of weeks here. So I'm very excited to see him."

A reboot of director Paul Michael Glaser's 1987 original, which itself was adapted from Stephen King's 1982 novel of the same name, The Running Man stars Powell as Ben Richards, a man forced to partake in a twisted death game known as The Running Man. This game...

Top Gun: Maverick "Royal Premiere"
Glen Powell Says Arnold Schwarzenegger Approved His Role in The Running Man Remake
Top Gun: Maverick "Royal Premiere"
Glen Powell says he received Arnold Schwarzenegger’s full approval before stepping into the lead role for The Running Man, a new film directed by Edgar Wright and based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King.

Powell, who co-starred with Schwarzenegger in The Expendables 3, said he had not spoken with him in years but wanted to reconnect out of respect. “Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold,” Powell told People during an interview at CinemaCon. “Arnold gave us his full blessing.”

Schwarzenegger starred in the 1987 adaptation, which was loosely inspired by King’s novel. Powell said he and Wright wanted to honor that version while approaching the new film from a different angle. He also mentioned that he plans to give Schwarzenegger a personalized item related to the production. “We get to give Arnold a very specific, fun gift...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Gave Glen Powell His “Full Blessing” for ‘The Running Man’ Remake
Image
Before Glen Powell felt comfortable racing onto Edgar Wright’s The Running Man, he made sure to get the approval from the star of the 1987 film — Arnold Schwarzenegger.

As a good friend of The Terminator’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Powell enlisted the help of The White Lotus season three actor to make sure his father was on board with him starring in the 2025 remake based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel.

“Arnold gave us his blessing,” Powell said during a Thursday interview with People. “Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold.”

The two actors shared the silver screen together back in 2014 when Powell joined the cast of the third Expendables film. Powell explained that he wanted to hop on a call with Schwarzenegger because they “hadn’t seen” each other since they shot The Expendables 3 over a decade ago.

Glen Powell Reveals Arnold Schwarzenegger's Reaction to 'The Running Man'
Image
Released in 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Running Manwas largely panned by critics at the time, but over the years it's become a cult-favorite thanks to its many one-liners and gratuitous violence. Loosely based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, the film is set for an update this year starring Glen Powell in the role of Ben Richards, and he recently revealed what Schwarzenegger thinks of him and director Edgar Wright remaking one of his beloved classics.

Speaking with People to promote his new condiment line, Smash Kitchen, the subject of The Running Man came up. Set to hit theaters on November 7, this new version promises to be more faithful to the source material than the 1987 flick was, and updates King's tale for a new generation of moviegoers. Of course, stepping into such an iconic role was a bit daunting for Powell, despite being no stranger to the...

'What I Get for Asking Tom Cruise for Advice': How Glen Powell Went 'Through Fire' Filming The Running Man
Image
Many actors who worked with Tom Cruise revealed they asked him for advice. As the Mission: Impossible star is always willing to help fellow actors, his love for stunts might drive other actors to do the same.

At least his Top Gun: Maverick co-star, Glen Powell, is following in his footsteps. The rising actor will play the leading role in one of Stephen King's upcoming adaptations, The Running Man. During Paramount's CinemaCon presentation, which included films on its upcoming slate, Glen Powell revealed he asked Tom Cruise for advice on using a stunt double, per Deadline.

Powell was there with writer and director Edgar Wright, and presented the first footage from the upcoming adaptation of The Running Man. Actors Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo also attended the event.

The Running Man wrapped filming recently, and Wright echoed the sentiment on stage as they unveiled the first footage for the upcoming film.

"Hunt Him Down": ‘The Running Man’ Makes a Pit Stop at CinemaCon With First Footage
Image
In Glen Powellwe trust. Pair the Twisters and Top Gun: Maverick star with filmmaker, Edgar Wright, in a movie based on a Stephen King novel and — in the words of the late, great Carl Weathers — baby, you’ve got a stew going. Today, CinemaCon attendees were invited to try a taste of that stew (have we taken it too far?) thanks to a special update during Paramount’s presentation that included some piping-hot information about the upcoming action-packed thriller, The Running Man.

In the footage played at the convention, Glen Powell’s Ben is approached by Josh Brolin’s bad guy, who knows that he’s in a desperate position and in dire need of money for his family. Brolin looks like a skeezy billionaire, while Colman Domingo’s host is everything that a game show host could hope to be — well dressed and fabulous. The hunt is on for...

Edgar Wright at an event for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
The Running Man first trailer was shown to the CinemaCon audience
Edgar Wright at an event for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Last year, Wright’s take on the material began filming with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role. Production wrapped last month – and now, the audience at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas has already gotten to see the first trailer for the film!

King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to the point where people are willing to...

‘The Running Man’ First Footage: Edgar Wright Puts Glen Powell ‘Through the Fire’ in Adaptation of Stephen King’s Book
Image
We’re already running to the theater. During its CinemaCon presentation on Thursday, Paramount Pictures gave the first look at “The Running Man,” the new adaptation of Stephen King’s book as directed by Edgar Wright and starring Glen Powell. While footage won’t be shared publicly for a while, we’re happy to report that the film looks as visually stylized and creative as any of Wright’s prior films.

It’s not a remake of the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger but a new take on the King novel, in which an economically struggling U.S. (just how severe are those tariffs?) launches a game show where contestants are chased by murderous hunters across the globe. Wright at CinemaCon said King’s book was one of his favorites as a teenager, but the real story in King’s book has never been told. Fittingly, the book was set in...

‘The Running Man’ Races Off With First Footage as Glen Powell Says “I Have Never Worked Harder”
Image
Paramount Pictures is readying to put Edgar Wright’s The Running Man in the starting block with seven months to go before a Nov. 7 debut in theaters. The cast looked prepped and game to set a strong theatrical pace by appearing on Caesars Palace’s Colosseum stage during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday.

“I have never worked harder on a movie in my life,” said star Glen Powell, known as one of the busier actor-producers in Hollywood of the film, which just wrapped a week ago.

Wright and Powell were joined by Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo for a lively segment during which they introduced never-before-seen footage from the film, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel. Published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Running Man is set in an America in 2025 under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to placate the disenfranchised masses.

Glen Powell Races to Stay Alive in Bloody CinemaCon Trailer for Edgar Wright’s ‘The Running Man’
Image
Glen Powell is lacing up his sneakers and racing to stay alive in the thrilling first trailer for “The Running Man,” Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the dystopian action thriller that was another key step in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s transformation from professional bodybuilder into a major movie star. Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the remake, offered a first look at the film at CinemaCon as part of its presentation to theater owners on Thursday.

It finds Powell playing a down-and-out family man who decides to compete in a deadly game show where contestants try to outrace swat teams and drones that are trying to hunt them down (think “American Idol” with a much higher body count). The winner gets a cash prize. The losers end up in the morgue.

“This game is no game…life and death run wild,” Colman Domingo, playing the malevolent host of the popular program, intones.

Glen Powell Runs for His Life in First ‘The Running Man’ Footage
Image
After being announced at last year’s CinemaCon, Edgar Wright, Glen Powell, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin took the main stage on Thursday to present the first footage for Paramount’s “The Running Man.”

The sneak peek starts in an alley in the future where we meet firefighter Ben Richards. “The Running Man is the biggest show in the country,” Brolin says.

“The thrill of the hunt, can you feel it?” Domingo says.

Shots of the game show set is shown. “Hunt him down,” Domingo screams as Richards is chased. “Stop filming me,” Richards says.

More stunts ensue.”I’m still here you s–t eaters,” Powell says as armed troops come for him.

Powell stars in the project along with Brolin, Domingo, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra. Edgar Wright directed and co-wrote the story with his “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” collaborator Michael Bacall.
