Starz has unveiled the trailer and key art for “Gaslit,” its limited series that tackles the Watergate scandal. The show focuses on the perspective of Martha Mitchell (Julia Roberts), the wife of Richard Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell (Sean Penn). “Gaslit” will debut on Starz’s digital platform at midnight on April 24, with a linear debut the same day at 8 p.m. Et.
Roberts is on fire in the trailer, Arkansas accent and all, as a political storm swirls around her, and Penn is nearly unrecognizable in his prosthetics and hair pieces. At one point, John slaps Martha across the face, to which she responds by slapping him back, adding, “My momma slapped me harder than that.”
Martha was the first person to publicly blow the whistle on Nixon’s involvement in the infamous scandal, which kicked off an avalanche of political and personal consequences. John was Nixon’s close advisor and friend,...

Let's prep for a very exciting awards season with Starz's Gaslit looking to be quite the thrill ride with a cast that makes your hair stand on end.
Sean Penn may be in Ukraine filming the atrocities occurring there, but you'll soon see him supporting leading lady Julia Roberts as the two play married couple, John and Martha Mitchell, and it looks like they'll knock it out of the park!
The series is a modern take on Watergate, focusing on the scandal's untold stories and forgotten characters -- from Nixon's bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers.
They would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.
The story will center on Martha Mitchell, played by Roberts, a big personality with an even bigger mouth. Martha is a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon's loyal Attorney General,...

As Martha Mitchell, the outspoken wife of President Nixon’s U.S. attorney general John Mitchell, Julia Roberts has a lot to say in the trailer for upcoming Starz limited series “Gaslit.”
The show, which stars an unrecognizable Sean Penn as Martha’s husband, John, tells the “untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.”
The series, which premieres April 24 at 8 p.m. Pt/Et on the premium cabler, is centered around Roberts’ character. She’s described as “a big personality with an even bigger mouth,” and an Arkansan socialite. She’s the first person to sound the alarm about Nixon’s involvement in Watergate.
John (Penn) is a “temperamental, foul-mouthed and ruthless – yet hopelessly in love with his famously outspoken wife.

Starz unveiled the first teaser trailer for their upcoming Watergate limited series “Gaslit” on Wednesday, and viewers would be forgiven for doing a double-take when first seeing Sean Penn as former Attorney General John Mitchell. Penn dons heavy makeup for the role, but he’s not the primary focus of the series – instead that’s to his wife Martha Mitchell, played by Julia Roberts.
Martha Mitchell was the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, and as a result she became the focus of an intense White House smear campaign enacted by her own husband meant to discredit her. Her story is the central thrust of “Gaslit,” which will premiere on Sunday, April 24 across all Starz platforms in the U.S. and Canada.

“’Gaslit’ is the Watergate story you’ve never heard before,” says Robbie Pickering, creator, executive producer and showrunner of ‘Gaslit.

Sean Penn has set an ultimatum on the set of the upcoming Starz Watergate series “Gaslit”: either the entire cast and crew receive Covid-19 vaccines, or he’s not returning to work. Although NBCUniversal, “Gaslit’s” studio, imposed mandatory vaccines for “Zone A” cast and crew members (those in close proximity during production), and provided an on-site vaccination clinic for those involved with the production, Penn is putting his foot down. The actor’s representatives confirmed his decision to Variety.
Penn has offered to facilitate the mandatory-for-all vaccination effort, free of charge, through his nonprofit organization Community Organized Relief Effort.

Starz has picked up the Watergate drama “Gaslit,” starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, the premium cable channel said Monday.
Penn is set to star as Richard Nixon’s loyal attorney general, John Mitchell, with Roberts playing Mitchell’s Arkansan socialite wife, Martha.
Based on Slate’s “Slow Burn” podcast, the anthology series project previously had Joel Edgerton attached to direct and star alongside Roberts and Penn. But Edgerton and his brother, Nash Edgerton, exited the series ahead of its pickup at Starz, as did Armie Hammer. An individual with knowledge tells TheWrap the three departed several months ago due to scheduling conflicts. Hammer and Joel Edgerton’s roles are being recast.

Watergate drama Gaslit, which is based on Slate’s Slow Burn podcast, has landed at Starz, though it has lost a couple of names along the way.
The network has greenlighted the UCP-produced series starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. Joel Edgerton, who was set to star and direct, no longer is attached, and neither is his brother Nash Edgerton.
The pair join Armie Hammer, who was originally attached to the project, but also exited. The project was first unveiled in February 2020. Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, Armie Hammer and Joel Edgerton to Star in Watergate Series From Sam Esmail
Ucp has brought together a stellar cast for a series which presents a modern take on the Watergate scandal.
This prospective series, titled “Gaslit,” will star Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, Armie Hammer and Joel Edgerton, and has “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail on board as an executive producer. Ucp plans to shop the project around to premium and streaming platforms. Given the talent attached, it will likely cause quite the bidding war.
Based on the Slate podcast “Slow Burn,” the show focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of Watergate, from Nixon’s bumbling, opportunistic subordinates, to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes, to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.
Roberts will star as Martha Mitchell, a big personality with an even bigger mouth, who is a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell,...

Epix is joining the subscription streaming marketplace with the launch of Epix Now as a stand-alone option for $5.99 a month.
MGM’s premium cabler has been developing an Ott service for some time. The company’s larger rivals — HBO, Showtime and Starz — also have services that allow subscribers to sign up for their channels without the need for a pay-tv package from a traditional Mvpd provider.
Epix Now is available as an app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets. It is expected to be available soon via Roku devices and Amazon Fire TV, with the plan roll out across other devices and platforms throughout the year. The formal launch of Epix Now was unveiled Sunday as part of Epix’s portion of the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena, Calif.

Lee Fields, a 68-year-old soul singer, has a cutting tenor best suited for romantic pleas and songs of supplication. He believes that work is more valuable than ever in a time when public discourse is increasingly characterized by rancor and animosity. “There are so many things happening in the world today that would be seen as contrary to love,” Fields says. “People are becoming a bit removed from regular traditions.” He plans to counteract that with It Rains Love, which is due out April 5.
