Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:

As a cinematographer, if you spend the bulk of your career shooting classy big-budget productions for Hollywood heavyweights, it’s conceivable that you might occasionally get a B-movie hankering: Even gourmet chefs crave the sloppy pleasures of a Big Mac now and then. Janusz Kaminski gets the urge rarely, it seems, but when it strikes, he takes to the director’s chair. Back in 2000, Steven Spielberg’s trusty Dp made an ignominious helming debut with “Lost Souls,” an incoherent occult horror that wasn’t even the tasty kind of trash. Two decades later, things haven’t overly improved with “American Dream,” the noble-sounding title of which does little to dignify the dingy exploitation exercise lurking below: a thriller in which the American pursuit of happiness is no match for the dogged chase given by ticked-off Russian mobsters.
The relative novelty of Kaminski’s attachment in this capacity superficially distinguishes “American...

Collider is home to the exclusive premiere of the trailer for American Dream, directed by Steven Spielberg's longtime cinematographer Janusz Kaminski. This is the second feature film from Kaminski, who previously made his directorial debut with the 2007 Polish drama Hania. Kaminski is more widely known as the cinematographer on some of Spielberg's biggest movies of the past three decades, including Schindler's List, War of the Worlds, Minority Report, and the upcoming West Side Story. American Dream sees Kaminski directing a gritty crime drama story co-written by Duncan Brantley (Leatherheads) and Mark Wheaton (The Messengers). The …...

Sean Fahey, founder of Black Jack Press and mastermind behind the outstanding weird west anthology series, Tall Tales from the Badlands, has begun a Kickstarter campaign to launch a new anthology, Sagas of the Northmen, featuring one of medieval Europe’s most feared cultures: the Vikings. On the Kickstarter page, Fahey states, “In the tradition of the medieval Icelandic Sagas, our book features tales about (seemingly) ordinary men and women finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances. The subject matter explored in this inaugural volume is expansive and includes stand-alone tales about the infamous raid on Lindisfarne, Leif Erikson, the Icelandic justice system, the Viking funeral ritual, the Varangian Guard, the Viking warrior ethos and Freydis Eiriksdottir’s expedition to North America.” These are some truly epic tales from Viking history. The raid on Lindisfarne was a brutal attack by the Vikings on English villagers and marked the beginning of the “Viking Age.

After watching this concept trailer for "Sunday Billy Sunday," you may think twice about going camping again. Shot by indie director Morna Ciraki, the footage draws frights from sexual and religious imagery. Ciraki enlisted Emmy-winning makeup artist Dean Jones, and stunt coordinators from "True Blood," to help her get the on-screen gore right and prove that Mark Wheaton's ebook would make a good horror film. Presumably the footage is being shopped around to investors before a feature film adaptation goes into production. The plot of Wheaton's book concerns a priest who gets...

This morning...a little something different to share. Shock doesn't do this often, but I was impressed with what I saw.
First time filmmaker Morna Ciraki e-mailed me a bit ago asking if I'd like to see her proof of concept trailer for a possible screen adaptation of Mark Wheaton's novel Sunday Billy Sunday. Ciraki announced her intentions to direct a feature film last year.
"Sunday Billy Sunday is a sort of Friday the 13th meets Lord of the Flies story involving a priest who, upon witnessing a miracle, is driven mad by his attempts to divine its meaning," she tells us. "In hopes of sparking Divine Intervention, he goes to his East Texas summer camp and begins to kill 99 kids - and make them turn on one another - to force God’s hand. In the midst of this, four teenagers – Mark, Todd, Faith, and Maia – fall in and out of love,...

Rumors have been swirling about Hilary Swank signing on to the latest vampire flick from John Carpenter, Fangland. So much so that the actress herself has decided to address them.
"I guess that's why they call it a rumour, huh?" Swank told Empire Onlinein a recent interview thereby confirming that she has nothing to do with the project.
Fangland is an updated version of Bram Stoker's Dracula set up with Das Films and Blumhouse Prods. Sriram Das and Jason Blum are producing. Tracy Underwood's also involved in a producing capacity.

Anyone who reads their fair share of short stories and novellas knows that, among the foremost fundamentals of good storytelling thrown out the window, character development is usually first to go. As they’re shorter forms than the standard novel, their authors are often all too quick to jump into the action, leaving us with flat, two-dimensional characters whose personal predicaments and perils we couldn’t care less about. Thankfully, this is not the case in the four stories laid out in the remarkably character-driven Four Nails In The Coffin, by author/screenwriter Mark Wheaton (pictured).

John Carpenter is one of my favorite filmmakers of all time. Carpenter sadly does not get enough respect for his contributions to the horror and science fiction genre. The true legend that is John Carpenter (responsible for horror and sci-fi genre classics such as 'Halloween', 'The Thing', 'Escape from New York' and 'Big Trouble in Little China') is the director who has been named (finally) as the helmer of 'Fangland', based on the vampire novel by John Marks of the same title. It's a project that's been on the cards for a very long time now and so finally looks like it's now getting somewhere. The modern gothic novel is centered on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula. Mark Wheaton will be the one adapting the script for Das Films and Blumhouse Productions which hopefully will get Carpenter back to what he does best after some fairly dismal flicks over the past decade.

John Carpenter is going to give his spin on Bram Stoker’s Dracula with Fangland. Based off the 2007 novel by John Marks, the book is about “a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula.” Please don’t tell me that “modern-day” Dracula means he glitters in sunlight and just wants to talk about his feelings. According to Variety, the great Mark Wheaton (the Friday the 13th remake; he also used to write for Chud) wrote the script, so I don’t think we need to worry.

This brings glad tidings to our hearts—admittedly in a weird sort of way. John Carpenter (The Thing) has signed on to direct Fangland, an updated version of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" (the novel, that is), reports Variety.
Fangland is based on the 2007 novel by former 60 Minutes producer John Marks. It's centered on a New York-based television producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be Vlad Dracula himself.

We're happy about this, because after two years of being inundated by vegan vampires with washboard abs, we're once again (hopefully) going to get back to vampires' traditional raison d'être, and get a properly chilling, gothic horror film, albeit with a contemporary twist.

Look out, you sappy, lovelorn Twilight fans who like their vampires with enough emotion to fill an ocean, John Carpenter has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation of the 2007 novel Fangland, a modern take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The film is being written by Mark Wheaton (Friday The 13th, The Messengers) and will feature Hilary Swank as Evangeline, a television producer who ventures off to Transylvania to interview a crime boss by the name of Ion Torgu, who apparently has much darker secrets than your typical Eastern European gun runner.

That he was born is just one of the many undeniable facts about the life of the late Douglas Adams - author, humorist, raconteur, speaker, and thinker (although it should be noted that, on at least one parallel Earth, Mr. Adams was born a spring-toed lemur with a predilection for grassy fields and the works of Byron - a poetic lemur whose work was not terribly springy).
Another fact which comes to mind is that, of the 7 novels he wrote in his all-too-brief lifetime, by far the most popular is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and its four sequels - which make for a fine trilogy if you’re somewhat numerically impaired. Please don’t take this as a slight against Adams’s other novels, featuring detective Dirk Gently (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and its sequel, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul), as they...

Author and screenwriter Mark Wheaton has been a friend for years, since we toiled in the journalistic trenches while I was at Creature-Corner and he was pounding the pavement for scoops at 13th Street. Time has passed, change has been made and Wheaton is now enjoying a career in film while knocking out short tales of terror. Those short stories were initially released exclusively for the Kindle last fall, however, demand to see some of them in print was so strong, Wheaton decided to publish them in "Four Nails in the Coffin," available right here . This tome contains "Last Tuesday," "Bones," "Night of the Scorpions" and a full-length novel entitled "Sunday Billy Sunday." Give them a read!

It looks like things are ready to rock and roll for supernatural thriller Voice from the Stone as The Ring leader Hideo Nakata signs up to direct.
Expected to start shooting in spring-summer time, Voice from the Stone is adapted from the Italian novel of the same name and is scripted by Friday the 13th writer Mark Wheaton.
The film follows a psychologist who takes on the case of an orphaned boy who swears he will remain mute until his mother's spirit returns. The psychologist soon realises there is more than just professional curiosity drawing her to the child, and that she has been manipulated by the mother's spirit to bring her closer to her son.
The film sounds right up J-Horror-master Nakata's street. We look forward to being sufficiently freaked out once again with his take on the Italiano psycho-thriller.

Hideo Nakata is set to direct the supernatural thriller "Voice From the Stone." Nakata directed the original Japanese version of "The Ring" ("Ringu") and the English sequel "The Ring Two" starring Naomi Watts.
Mark Wheaton ("The Messengers," "Friday the 13th") has written the screenplay based on an Italian novel of the same name. Nakata is the perfect choice to helm this project. "Voice From the Stone" has a strong female character and a perturbed young boy at its core, much like "The Ring" films with Watts' Rachel protecting her young son Aidan (David Dorfman).

Japanese director Hideo Nakata is most famous for directing the original versions of the “Ring” movies, or “Ringu” as its known overseas. He loved directing ghost ladies who climb out of TV’s so much, he returned to the franchise in 2005 to direct the sequel to the American version starring Naomi Watts. (And, I suppose, the nice paycheck didn’t hurt, either.) With “Ring” still apparently popular (though I suppose that’s open to debate), Nakata is currently attached to direct the third entry, which is scheduled for 2011. Before that, though, Nakata is helming “Voice from the Stone” for Zanuck Independent. Based on an Italian novel of the same name, “Voice From the Stone” was adapted by Mark Wheaton, and tells the story of a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy. Hideo Nakata, the scariest man in Japan, is back to his usual spooky, pant-wetting tricks with the news that he's to direct Voice From the Stone, a supernatural thriller based on an Italian cult classic novel. The plot involves a female psychologist as she starts a case concerning a boy who won't speak - supposedly because of a promise he made to his recently deceased mother not to utter a word until 'her spirit returns'.We're not sure what that means or how exactly your spirit might return (Self-addressed coffin? Shaped as boomerang?) but it has something to do with the psychologist being inhabited by the mother's ghost, someway, somehow. We'll have to find out once the film's released, or buy the novel it was originally based on, which was written for the screen by Mark Wheaton, writer of Friday The 13th and The Messengers. It will be produced by...

When Japanese director Hideo Nakata dropped The Ring on us several years ago, he basically introduced horror audiences to what would become to be known as J-Horror. Hundreds of films concerning little girls dressed in white with long black hair later, the man himself is ready to spin another ghostly tale.
