Image
BayView Entertainment LLC is pleased to announce its latest horror film release, Pale Horse. This stylistic terror tale with an art world backdrop is sure to please fans of psychotronic fare.

In one of his final films, late director Pearry Reginald Teo weaves a horrific web of intrigue. As Sabian pursues wealth and fame through artistic endeavors, a series of odd encounters, unexplained occurrences, and strange visions befall all in his path. Will Sabian succeed, or end up subservient to the sinister forces at work?

Award-winning Pearry excelled in the realm of horror, helming such films as Witchville (Universal), Dracula, the Dark Prince with Oscar® winner Jon Voight (Lionsgate), and The Assent (ShockFest) starring Oscar® winner Tatum O’Neal.

Pearry Reginald Teo, Writer-Director of ‘The Gene Generation,’ Dies at 44
Image
Pearry Reginald Teo, the Singaporean-born genre filmmaker behind the Bai Ling-starring The Gene Generation and Dmx‘s last movie, Fast Vengeance, has died. He was 44.

Teo died Thursday of an unknown cause in his home in North Hollywood, his rep Italia Gandolfo told The Hollywood Reporter.

The writer-director’s body of work included the Hellraiser-inspired Necromentia (2009) and The Assent (2019), a movie about exorcism that featured Tatum O’Neal and premiered at the Toronto After Dark Festival.

Teo also served as an executive producer on Warner Bros.’ Cloud Atlas, directed by the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer.

The Gene Generation (2007), released by Lionsgate and made for a reported $2.5 million, starred Ling as a kick-ass assassin battling DNA hackers and included a cameo by Faye Dunaway.

Fast Vengeance (2021), starring martial arts star D.Y. Sao, centered on the world of underground motorcycle racing. (Sao and Teo would reunite for 2022’s Shadow Master.)

‘Shadow Master’ Review
Image
Stars: Layton Matthews, D.Y. Sao, Anna Harr, Dominique Swain, Craig Ng | Written and Directed by Pearry Reginald Teo

Set in what appears to be a dystopian, and possibly post-apocalyptic America, Shadow Master opens with a Swat team walking in on a martial arts battle in what looks like a hospital turned into a slaughterhouse complete with hooks and chains.

They arrest the only person still alive. Back at the station Detective Russells begins interrogating the suspect. He claims to be John Doe, although we’ll later find out his mane is actually An Voaen, the hospital’s night watchman. A job that paid him with food and a place to live.

The hospital is actually abandoned, and judging by its occupants such as the Harley Quinn wannabe Dewitt and her mother might have been an asylum. The group’s leader Boon-Nam tells him that there have been issues with children disappearing in the night,...

Shadow Master – Review
Image
D.Y. Sao in Shadow Master. Courtesy of Saban Films

When you’re making an urban post-apocalyptic, supernatural martial arts movie a lot can go wrong, and most of it does in Shadow Master. The plot is mostly drivel about The Four Horsemen (without horses) of the Apocalypse snatching children from a rundown multi-story warehouse that is shelter for a bedraggled group of survivors of whatever the unspecified disaster was that left the world all gray and smoky, inside and out. The evil quartet is doing this for a world-conquering ritual, opposed by some sort of Death God, who recruits our hero (D.Y. Sao) to take on his powers at the cost of his soul to protect the folks he’s only just met when the thing starts.

Actually, the opening scene has Sao, face obscured by long hair like the creepy gal from The Ring, killing a bunch of cops,...

Pearry Reginald Teo Returns with The Assent [Trailer]
It's been a couple of years since we've seen anything new from writer/director Pearry Reginald Teo but Teo is back with a new horror movie that looks particularly promising.

The Assent stars Robert Kazinsky as Joel, a single father whose son is not quite right. As a last-ditch effort, he employs the help of a priest who advises Joel that his son has been marked by the devil and the only way to save him is through an exorcism.

Yes, it's another religious horror film but The Assent seems a bit more interesting than the average possession movie - if only because of the fact that Kazinsky, a solid actor, is in it. The movie also stars Peter Jason, Florence Faivre, and Caden Dragomer.

What's more, Teo chooses to use traditional creature effects which, f...

The Assent Looks Skyward in this Second Film Poster
Tagline: "To the Darkness, We Reqlinquish Our Souls..." The Assent is an exorcism themed horror film. From director Pearry Reginald Teo (Witchville), a new poster has been released for the film, courtesy of production house Bleiberg Entertainment. The graphic shows a child without pupils and looking skyward. And, assent is a Catholic word, in which a possessed person gives consent to an inhabiting demon. As well, this title stars: Robert Kazinsky ("True Blood"), Peter Jason (Escape from L.A.) and Hannah Ward. Being compared to The Sixth Sense and The Exorcist, a preview for The Assent is hosted here. The long synopsis, for the film, mentions three phases of possession. First there is the initial possession, followed by the affliction and finally the assent. At each phase, the demon grows in power, over its host. An exorcism takes place. But, Father Lambert (Jason) may not be able to save the young boy,...

“Don’t follow too close.”

When his wife and daughter fall victim to a Jigsaw-like serial killer by the name of The Night Stalker, Henry (Stephen Manley) has only one thing on his mind – to return to the scene of the crime and begin plotting his revenge. Yeah, that’s not true at all. In fact, you couldn’t be further from the truth! Upon finding that the killer is in fact dead, Henry actually wants to return to the Night Stalker’s torture mansion (that sounds quite pathetic doesn’t it? I could have worded it much better, but oh well!) to see if he can locate and make contact with the spirits of his wife and daughter. Seems a little farfetched?...

The other fresh additions to the Tiberius slate include Paul Calori and Kostia Testut’s quirky French musical romantic comedy Julie And The Shoe Factory (Sur Quel Pied Danser) set against the backdrop of industrial action at a luxury shoe factory which is threatening to lay staff off.

The Curse Of Sleeping Beauty Review
Hollywood keeps trying to make dark fairy tales happen (Red Riding Hood/Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), but after The Curse Of Sleeping Beauty, it might be time to give up. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for innocence lost. Who doesn’t love a good Christmas horror movie that transforms joy into fear? Granted, this adaptation of Sleeping Beauty is based on “Little Brier-Rose” by the Brothers Grimm, so deviousness is expected – but not to the degree Pearry Teo delivers. Disney’s whimsy long fades once Teo exposes the true horrors of a long-slumbering girl, yet this genre attempt struggles to find sinister definition, and might be droll enough to lull even the titular Beauty back to sleep.

Teo’s film opens on a desert landscape, as Thomas (Ethan Peck) walks towards a bed curtained by wavy sheets. A young woman lays dead asleep, who Thomas approaches,...

The Curse Of Sleeping Beauty is Beautiful, Dark and Delivers Scares [Review]
Over the years I've really enjoyed some of writer/director Pearry Reginald Teo's work. His stories are always interesting and unique and though on occasion the projects feel like they're the work of a director with vision who just hasn't quite reached his peak yet, it was only a matter of time before Teo's vision really came through on screen and The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is the pinnacle of the director's work to date.

A re-imagining of "Little Briar Rose" originally recorded by the Brothers Grimm, Teo's story concept, which was expanded on by screen writer Josh Nadler, is one of the better screen adaptations of the classic fairy tale, keeping the dark fantasy alive while infusing a completely new take on the material in the form of a mystery with tinges of horror.

If there’s one director whose films I will watch without hesitation or question, it’s Pearry Teo. In fact his filmic career is actually one that is key to mine. His second film, the 2009 fear flick Necromentia (which I still think out-Hellraiser’d Hellraiser itself), was one of the first films I ever reviewed professionally; and I’ve reviewed each and every one of his films since. Why? Because of the impact his twisted vision in Necromentia had on me and because no matter the story, no matter the budget, Teo always finds something interesting, admittedly often dark, to do with the subject matter.

Teo’s...

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty (2016) Review

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is part horror, part dark fantasy, part supernatural love story, and part haunted house movie. A film that tries to fit so much into a brisk eighty-nine minutes could easily wind up being a mess, but Sleeping Beauty combines its various genres and subgenres into something that feels like a coherent whole. The Curse of Sleeping Beauty might not fit comfortably into any one genre, but I say if a film works, it works, and The Curse of Sleeping beauty works.

The novel is inspired by the Amityville Horror series and will focus on theories and real life accounts of the original DeFeo murders. Says Teo:

Strange Blood (2015)
Interview: Pearry Teo, Producer of Strange Blood!
Strange Blood (2015)
Man o’ man, ghouls, look who just dropped by the Crypt o’ Xiii! None other than virtuoso producer/die-rector Pearry Teo! Welcome Pearry, why not have a seat right here on this coff… er, I mean sofa, and let’s get down to the horror biz and discuss your latest production Strange Blood!

Famous Monsters. So, what attracted you to ol’ Strange Blood?

Pearry Teo. I was very tired of the generic horror movies out there today. I think there have been too many cliché-ridden movies and I wanted to do something as an homage to the great horror movies like The Fly. I enjoyed the pacing of that movie, where it’s a slow burn rather than trying to cram gore into our mouths. I always wanted to do a horror movie where women are not portrayed as sex objects or running away from a killer. In fact, Gemma...

Time running out, and with the aid of his med student assistant, he must find a way to stop the monster that is growing within and prevent the rest of the world from being “cured.”

Strange Blood, which stars Robert Brettenaugh and Alexandra Bard,...

An Infection is Coming to Screens this April with Strange Blood!
Sick and twisted horror director Pearry Reginald Teo (Necromentia) has penned another dark tale. The film is titled Strange Blood. In this title, a brilliant scientist experiments with a cure-all for every disease under the sun. Unsurprisingly, something goes wrong and this scientist is changed forever. As well, this film stars Robert Brettenaugh, Alexandra Bard and James Adam Lim. The film's official trailer is hosted here. The trailer and look of the film are influenced by David Cronenberg. Cronenberg's body horror influences can be seen in the scientist's body, which is changed in a bloody fashion. Strange Blood is scheduled for a video-on-demand release in late April, followed by a DVD release in June. Indie in nature, Strange Blood looks like a horror film that will scar retinas,...

‘Strange Blood’ Review
Stars: Robert Brettenaugh, Alexandra Bard, James Adam Lim | Written by Pearry Teo, Chad Michael Ward | Directed by Chad Michael Ward

Chad Michael Ward, the man behind the internationally acclaimed and controversial photo projects such as The Sick Series and The Pain Box as well as director of music videos for artists like Static-x and Marilyn Manson, turns his hand to his first feature – with help from cohort and the other half of TeoWard Productions (hence the name) Pearry Teo – the disturbing psycho-sexual medical horror Strange Blood.

It’s not often a film maker comes straight out of the gate with a debut feature that at once harkens back to a bygone era and pushes the genre forward at the same time. Yet Chad Michael Ward’s Strange Blood does just that… The film sees a brilliant but obsessive scientist, Henry, (Brettenaugh) go to extremes to develop a universal cure for all disease,...

MonsterFest 2014: ‘How To Save Us’ Review
Stars: Jason Trost, Kate Avery, Ryan Gibson, Coy Jandreau, Tallay Wickham, Michael Gupta | Written and Directed by Jason Trost

There are very few film makers working today who have the same filmic sensibilities as me, whose work resonates with me the most – be it because I can see influences in their work that inspired me or be it that they’re just as demented as me (and I mean that in a good way). In fact I can count them on one hand: The Astron-6 guys, Dustin Mills, Kaare Andrews, Pearry Teo and Jason Trost. These are the film makers whose work I will watch no matter what the subject matter, no matter the budget and no matter what the opinion on a particular film is…

It’s interesting to note that all those mentioned are relative newcomers to movie-making. In fact it has only been three years since I...
