This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2 episode 6.
Taylor Sheridan's "1923" season 2 is full of dark moments, but episode 6, "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters," might go down in history as the "Yellowstone" franchise's "Game of Thrones."-like "Red Wedding" moment. In this episode, several major characters are laid to rest in cruel and unforgiving ways, and it all ends with Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) fighting for survival in the middle of nowhere during a snowstorm. For the first time in a while, the "Yellowstone" spin-off feels truly unpredictable -- and all bets are off.
With the Duttons set to go to war with Whitfield and his crew over their land, the family is prioritizing Spencer's (Brandon Sklenar) safe passage to Montana, as their enemies intend on assassinating the war hero when his train pulls in. However, the Duttons' focus on Spencer makes them overlook Jack (Darren Mann), who, in the latest installment,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for 1923 Season 2 Episode 6, “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.”] 1923 Season 2 killed off seven characters (and a horse) in its penultimate episode. Their deaths will reverberate throughout the Episode 7 finale, a nearly two-hour episode that comes out next Sunday, April 6, on Paramount+. In the absence of a renewal, these could be the final episodes of 1923 ever. Whether this is the final season or not, Season 2 is going out with a brutal bang. Every plot line, except Spencer’s (Brandon Sklenar) train ride home, had major deaths in this episode. The Duttons lost another family member in their fight against Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton). Teonna Rainwater’s (Aminah Nieves) story with Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) reached its climax. And Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) caught a lucky break on her journey west that ended in devastation. The English couple that saved Alex from arrest in Episode 5, Paul (Augustus Prew) and Hillary (Janet Montgomery), drove the pregnant Alex from Winnetka, ...

Episode 6 of the second season of 1923 is the most shocking and upsetting so far. Things looked better for several of the characters in Episode 5 (although not everyone), but the latest episode of 1923 — ominously called "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters" — undoes any notions of life taking a more positive swing.
As 1923 has progressed during Season 2, the focus has been on the harshness of man and winter alike. Spring begins to appear in Episode 6, but its arrival brings violence and bloodshed instead of any fresh signs of life. No fewer than seven people die in "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters," and as the death toll mounts, it's hard not to think about just how many more people will die by season's end.
"The Mountain Teeth of Monsters" emphasizes loss and all its components while proving that no one is safe. Here's what happened and who managed to survive.

Episode 5 of the second season of 1923 offers the hope of winter's end but, as the title indicates, "Only Gunshots to Guide Us," spring will arrive with a bang. As Father Renaud (Sebastian Roche) and Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) continue to hunt for Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), and Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), both Alexandra (Julie Schlaepfer) and Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) remain on arduous journeys to reunite.
After Episode 4, Alexandra seemed to be in a better position than Spencer, but it quickly becomes clear in the latest episode that the opposite is true. There's no real information about the Duttons in Montana in "Only Guns to Guide Us," but with Spencer getting closer to home, war appears imminent.
The plight of women during the early 20th century and how it manifests itself in different settings is evident, as is the ever-present class divide, in episode 5 of 1923's second season.

Even though Harrison Ford is 82 years old with an extensive CV spanning many decades, he continues to find ways to evolve in his career. His 1923 co-star Helen Mirren is one person who believes that, insisting "something magical" has happened to Ford's acting as time passed.
Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Mirren praised Ford for his acting range, with 1923 showing more of his emotional side as one of the spinoff's main protagonists. According to the Oscar winner, Ford "didn't want" to be a big Hollywood star, but let his talent speak for itself and trusted his "inner feelings" over time.

“Yellowstone” is back.
Taylor Sheridan’s phenomenally popular series, the most-watched show currently airing on television, returns on Sunday, Nov. 10. The new batch of episodes (six in total) serve as the second half of the show’s fifth season, which began way back in November 2022. Since then, the show has endured a very public feud with its star Kevin Costner, two strikes that shutdown Hollywood and a considerable amount of handwringing about what direction the series will ultimately take.
And while it appears that the mainline series is coming to an end, although that “final season” bit has been left out of the marketing materials for the second half of season 5 (so far), there will still be plenty to come from Sheridan’s considerable “Yellowstone” universe. These plans include a whole suite of “Yellowstone” spinoffs, which are somewhat confusing and difficult to parse through. But that’s why we’re here.

1923 season 2 gets a production update, returning to its Montana location after a setback. The popular Yellowstone prequel, led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in their respective roles as Jacob and Cara Dutton, began filming on the strike-delayed 1923 season 2 in July. The news comes after the Paramount+ drama has revealed new casting details, along with new story details that point to the show taking a potentially darker turn.
NBC Montana confirms that the upcoming episodes of 1923 season 2 will film some scenes in Butte, Montana. The report notes that even though most of the filming so far has taken place in Austin, Texas, production will be moving up to Montana next month. It is expected that filming will last for about a month, taking place at a ranch, the Civic Center, and a couple of places in Uptown Butte. This is expected to start somewhere between the middle to late October.

Netflix’s catalog of movies from different genres keeps expanding every week, and among its most recent and successful additions is Players. Directed by Trish Sie and written by Whit Anderson, Players takes viewers to New York City to meet Mack (Gina Rodriguez), a sportswriter who, along with her friends, comes up with elaborate but successful hook-up schemes to help each other get dates and more.

Mack, the sly protagonist of Netflix’s endearing new rom-com Players, always closes. The 33-year-old journalist has a back pocket stuffed with plays that rarely fail. Want to convince the stranger at the bar that you can offer her the world? Or bag your next-door neighbor? Mack and her friends can walk you through the moves, honed over 12 years, to force an interaction.
The plays work well because Mack, Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.), Brannagan (Augustus Prew) and Ryan aka “Little” (Joel Courtney) are committed to research. Establishing a play requires a careful assessment of the target, the situation and the context. The plays can always help you land a steamy bar make-out, a one-night stand or maybe even a date. What they can’t do, Mack learns, is get you into a relationship.
Players, directed by Trish Sie, is the kind of romantic comedy that wears the conventions of its genre proudly.

Players fails to critique dating culture, instead celebrating and glamorizing shallow hook-up schemes. The film lacks depth and realistic characterizations, focusing on unfunny humor rather than quality storytelling. Despite the efforts of the talented cast, Players is a forgettable rom-com that disappoints with its rushed and undeserved ending.
It’s Valentine’s Day Week, and there are plenty of old and new rom-coms to look forward to, with Netflix also releasing its latest romantic comedy, Players, starring Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez. Written by Whit Anderson and directed by Trish Sie, the story sees Mack (Rodriguez), an outgoing sports reporter, who develops schemes to land one-night stands. When she starts falling in love with her latest play, Mack intends to turn her latest interest into a long-term relationship. As far as rom-coms go, Players barks up a creative tree, but this story is about as trashy as they come.

Many romantic comedies utilize deception as a key plot point. However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league. Acting as a dumbed-down, gender-swapped kissing cousin to “Hitch,” it centers on a gal and her pals who know all the right moves to land hookups. Director Trish Sie’s middling and at times mawkish film not only makes us hate the game, but also its players.

"It was never about the plays, it was about being with the people who 'get' you." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a raunchy New York City romantic comedy film called Players, the latest from filmmaker Trish Sie. This is indeed about the "player" culture of super hot hookups and one-night-stands, where a woman helps guys with "plays" until he realizes he wants more than just one-night-stands. Of course, this is the same story they've been telling for decades. New York sportswriter Mack has spent years devising successful hook-up "plays" with her friends, but when she unexpectedly falls for one of her high society targets, she must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to "playing for keeps." What a pitch. Gina Rodriguez stars as Mack, along with Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle, and Tom Ellis. This is the...

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

Prison Break may make another comeback. A new version of the popular Fox series is now in development from Elgin James, co-creator of FX's Mayans Mc. If this new version moves forward, it will air on Hulu, which is the streaming home of the original series.

Who’s ready to go back behind bars? In a surprise announcement, Deadline reports that Mayans M.C. co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner Elgin James is developing a new Prison Break project for Hulu. Written and executive-produced by James through his Sierra Drive studio, the revised version marks a new chapter of the incarceration thriller.
Elgin is keeping details about the new Prison Break project in solitary. However, Deadline says, “it is not expected to involve the characters who were at the center of the original series and its followups on Fox.” The original Prison Break debuted in 2005, following Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) as two brothers hatching a plan to escape Fox River State Penitentiary. With Lincoln heading for Death Row, it’s only a matter of time before push comes to shove, and the brothers must enact their plan or face the consequences of their actions.

Twitter is haunted. At least, it was in 2017, when Buzzfeed artist Adam Ellis’ Twitter thread went viral. The thread chronicled his encounters, in real-time, with the ghost of a little boy named Dear David. Because Hollywood loves IP, the thread was quickly picked up by New Line Cinema (and later Lionsgate), and woven into the feature-length haunt, Dear David. Directed by John McPhail with a screenplay by Mike Van Waes, the film endeavors to transcend its Twitter roots, but struggles to turn bite-sized digital morsels into a compelling feature-length haunting.

I’ve never been especially afraid that Janicza Bravo’s inimitable “Zola” might pave the way for more films based on Twitter threads; in the time since one of history’s biggest losers began to delegitimize the platform just because he’s so bad at using it, not once have I found myself wondering: “But where are we going to get our movies!?”
If anything, I expected BuzzFeed Studios’ “Dear David” — adapted from a viral, months-long thread that a former employee of the internet-famous content mill wrote about the ghost haunting his Queens apartment — to inspire some nostalgia for the days when the website formerly known as Twitter was still a wellspring of new media creativity, and not just a toxic cesspool of hate and misinformation. Alas, this low-rent, no-energy, seen-it-all-before genre wank left me absolutely terrified of returning to an era when micro-blogged cries for help could last for...
