10. ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021)

After the mixed reception of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016), expectations were high for James Gunn’s take on the franchise. Gunn’s signature irreverent humor and over-the-top style, which were successful in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, didn’t resonate with everyone, contributing to its place in the “top 10 worst” rankings.

Dceu started out as a largely ambitious idea to replicate the success of the rival MCU. Warner Bros. came up with a decade-long plan to bring to the big screen some of the most iconic characters from the DC comic universe.

While the movies were profitable, the audiences disliked Snyder’s darker take on the characters and it was eventually disbanded with Gunn’s newly rebooted Dcu put in place. While some movies were considered to be disasters, Dceu did give us some timeless superhero hits. Due to this reason alone, fans gathered on Ranker to vote for the 10 best Dceu movies, so, let’s check them out.

10. ‘Blue Beetle’ (2023)

"Chuck" picked up a loyal fan base thanks to its trademark blend of quirky humor and thrilling action. Though the show was repeatedly in danger of cancellation, fans rallied around the series, somehow convincing NBC to pick it up any time it seemed on the bubble. "The fans of 'Chuck' have been incredibly passionate and supportive of the show," NBC entertainment marketing president Adam Stotsky told TheWrap in 2009, when the network leaned into all the online chatter with an online game that encouraged fans to spread the word about the show on social media.

The Rock and John Cena are the biggest mainstream superstars synonymous with the WWE. Dwayne Johnson has been a Hollywood behemoth for over two decades, while Cena is on the path to becoming a Hollywood superstar. Before all the glitz and glamour, they gave their all in a wrestling ring and became so popular that the mainstream couldn’t ignore them.

The strangest thing about them is that they haven’t yet played any role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel films from both within and outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe have featured WWE stars, and there are also a few wrestlers who narrowly missed out on joining their ranks. That’s why it’s strange that they haven’t yet done roles with Marvel.

The DC Extended Universe ended in 2023 with the sight of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's Orm eating a cockroach. After a disastrous year for the brand, it almost seemed fitting for it to conclude on such a bum note, but it wasn't all bad for the Dceu. 

Sure, it was a rocky ride, and there were perhaps more misses than hits over the years, but it would be wrong to write this franchise off as a total disaster. A few of these titles were even great comic book movies, and it's those that the Dcu will need to compete with.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has admitted that he almost gave up blockbuster movies after receiving "death threats" from DC fans following the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It turns out that it wasn't just the movie's titular gods who were outraged, but also audiences, which led to some "crazy" backlash from "very angry" fans over his work on the DC Extended Universe (Dceu). Although David F. Sandberg might be done with superhero movies, he still has some blockbusters in him.

The Shazam! (2019) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) director revealed that he got “death threats” over his work on the Dceu franchise, which nearly forced him to give up IP-based movies before his upcoming video game horror adaptation Until Dawn, which premieres Friday.

Comic book fans take their superheroes very seriously. So when Shazam! and its sequel Shazam! Fury of the Godsdidn't live up to their expectations; some folks sent death threats to the film's director.

Before joining the Shazam! franchise, filmmaker David F. Sandberg was best known for horror projects like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation. 

He brought some of those horror sensibilities to that first DC movie courtesy of the Seven Deadly Sins, and 2019's Shazam! remains one of the best-reviewed Dceu releases. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, however, was a critical and commercial flop when it followed four years later.  

The sequel utilised newly created villains rather than making good on that Mister Mind tease, but included a big Dceu cameo courtesy of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Despite that, Fury of the Gods didn't resonate with fans or moviegoers, and Sandberg quickly moved on to adapt PlayStation horror game, Until Dawn.

Snow White opened in theaters last month to largely negative reviews and struggled to make an impact at either the North American or international box offices. As of now, it's made only $145 million on a reported production budget of $270 million (that number goes up to $370 million with marketing costs factored in).

Tangled is one of the most popular and beloved recent Disney movies. Which naturally led to a need for a live-action version.

Disney is known for its beloved animated Disney Princesses, which include both classic characters like Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, and Ariel, but also newcomers like Merida, Tiana, Moana, Raya, and Rapunzel. The latter got her own movie with the beloved 2010 animation Tangled. Disney was already working on developing a live-action version, but, per The Hollywood Reporter, the plans for the live-action Tangled are now paused amid its Snow White headaches.

There were conversations about the adaptation, but Disney confirmed the Tangled live-action remake in December 2024. Michael Gracey, who helmed critically acclaimed productions like The Greatest Showman and the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, was in talks to direct. Jennifer Kayton Robinson, who helms the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, wrote the draft for the script.

A former DC star is open to returning to James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted Dcu, and some fans think she would make for a great Wonder Woman. Actress Grace Caroline Currey previously played Mary Bromfield in 2019's Shazam!, and even got to suit up as the hero Mary Marvel/Mary Shazam (known in the film as Super Hero Mary) in 2023's Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Both films were set in the previous Dceu continuity, and with the franchise now getting a reboot with James Gunn's Dcu, the two Shazam! films and its semi-adjacent spin-off, Black Adam, are no longer part of the franchise's plans. Despite this, Currey hopes to return the superhero world someday.

While Zachary Levi may have found box office success earlier in his career, thanks to his role as Fandral in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, but it’s been quite some time since he starred in anything that could be considered a box office hit. Levi stars alongside Meghann Gahy in The Unbreakable Boy, the teen drama that debuted the weekend of February 21 and has still yet to hit its first box office milestone. At the time of writing, The Unbreakable Boy has collected $4.7 million at the box office, and while it may trudge past the $5 million mark later this week or early next, it stands no chance of reaching any significant milestone beyond that despite playing on over 1,500 screens.

Francis Ford Coppola won for directing his big-budget epic “Megalopolis,” and star Jon Voight won supporting actor for the film — shared with his turns in “Reagan,” “Shadow Land” and “Strangers.” Coppola’s “Megalopolis” received six nominations, which was tied for second-most nods with “Madame Web,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan.”

The famed filmmaker responded to his Razzies on Instagram, saying “box office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics has no true place in our future.

The results are in on the 2025 Razzie Awards where the year’s “worst” movies are recognized and awarded.

The annual ceremony, which traditionally takes place just ahead of the Oscars, went down on Friday (February 28).

Going into the event, Borderlands, Joker: Folie a Deux, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan led the field of nominees with six nods a piece. After it was all said and done, Madame Web took home the most “wins,” receiving three trophies.

Francis Ford Coppola "won" Worst Director at the Razzie Awards for his ambitious, self-financed epic Megalopolis. And he actually accepted the "honor," letting the Razzies and Hollywood know what he thinks about them in an unfiltered social media post. The 45th Razzie Awards results are in. The Academy Awards take place on Sunday evening and, as has become the tradition, the full list of "winners" from the 2025 Razzie Awards has just been unveiled.

Madame Web took three wins for "Worst Picture," "Worst Screenplay," and an arguably well-deserved "Worst Actress" for lead star Dakota Johnson. It wasn't the only comic book adaptation to walk away with a prize, though, as Joker: Folie à Deux nabbed "Worst Sequel" and "Worst Screen Combo" for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

The vast majority of celebrities and filmmakers ignore the Razzies, while few interviewers have the nerve - and understandably so - to ask celebrities about their "wins."

However, Francis Ford Coppola, who earned "Worst Director" for his critically panned Megalopolis, issued a scathing retort on social media today.

While film fans will have to wait until Sunday to find out the winners of the 2025 Oscars, the worst in film this year, the winners of the 2025 Razzies, have been revealed.

Topping this year’s awards with three wins, including worst picture, is Sony’s critically panned box office bust Madame Web.

Madame Web also won worst actress for star Dakota Johnson and worst screenplay.

Johnson previously spoke out about her experience with Madame Web, saying the script radically changed from what she initially read and that she was unlikely to “do anything like it again.”

“It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie,” Johnson told Bustle in an interview that was published a few weeks after the film was released. “I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again, because I don’t make sense in that world.

“Four Down,” a documentary based on Nick Schuyler and Jere Longman’s best-selling book “Not Without Hope,” will open the 20th edition of the Sunscreen Film Festival on April 24 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Directed by Steven Cantor, the docu examines Schuyler’s harrowing 2009 rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard, 43 hours after a tragic boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico claimed the lives of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and Schuyler’s best friend and former University of South Florida teammate Will Bleakley. Schuyler was found near death, clinging to the engine mount of the capsized vessel 70 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

The 95-minute hybrid doc was filmed on location in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, and at Lantica Studios in the Dominican Republic. Things are not looking good for Zachary Levi who has been coming up with one flop after the other. While the film promised a heartfelt depiction of a father-son relationship, the numbers don’t look like much.

How sunny and well-meaning and therapeutically feel-good is the new autism drama “The Unbreakable Boy?” It’s a movie in which the dad, played by Zachary Levi, has an imaginary best friend. It’s a movie in which the local church is run by a Matthew McConaughey sort of dude named Preacher Rick (Peter Facinelli), who’s so down with his downtrodden flock that he himself is a recovering alcoholic who admits he sometimes doesn’t like to go to church. And it’s a movie in which the title character, an owlish 13-year-old named Austin (Jacob Laval), isn’t merely autistic. He also suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, which means that his bones are extraordinarily fragile, so that he’s like some teen-geek version of Mr. Glass in “Unbreakable.” Speaking to the audience in voiceover, Austin lists his bone breaks, which number in the high twenties, as if they were Pokémon cards he was collecting.

Since the 1980s, Dennis Quaid has been one of Hollywood's most talented stars, leading everything from science fiction to thriller movies. The actor is at his best in more lighthearted and relatable roles, which have endeared him to generations of moviegoers as a great, average Joe-style performer. That has been reflected through his many roles, leading some of the best blockbusters and best-written films of the last forty years.

Quaid's career includes a variety of movies from different genres, but the actor is best known for his common sense, wholesome and relatable all-American characters. Neon’s horror comedy “The Monkey” is seeing and doing a strong opening weekend, though it’ll take silver at the box office behind Disney’s “Captain America: Brave New World,” still on top of the charts but facing a substantial tumble in its second weekend.

“The Monkey” chopped into an estimated $5.8 million from 3,200 theaters across Friday and preview screenings. That puts it on track for Neon’s second-biggest opening weekend ever, only falling behind director Osgood Perkins’ prior horror film at the banner, last summer’s breakout “Longlegs.” Reviews have been positive for this follow-up, though audiences are mixed with ticketbuyer survey firm Cinema Score logging a “C+.” Horror films skew lower in those polls though; beyond that, “Longlegs” notched the same middling grade before legging out a healthy 3.31x multiplier on its opening weekend.

Even only taking into account this opening weekend, “The Monkey” is in a great position.

Madonna is calling out Donald Trump once again after the current President of the United States called himself a king.

The “Hung Up” singer took to social media to comment on Trump’s Truth Social post, in which he likened himself to a king.

“Congestion Pricing Is Dead. Manhattan, and all of New York, is Saved,” he wrote. “Long Live The King!”

The White House’s social media team took it further and shared Trump’s quote on Instagram. In addition to the quote in the caption, Trump’s team shared an image that channeled a Time magazine cover with the Potus wearing a crown.
