It’s Halloween today. But if you’re more concerned with what your Valentine’s Day plans are going to be, we have the perfect bit of news: there’s a love-up blood-soaked horror slasher on the way titled Heart Eyes, with Freaky’s Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy on writing duties (alongside Phillip Murphy). The first trailer has just arrived – and since it’s Red Band, it’s a blood-soaked early peek, promising a new iconic horror mask, plenty of gory kills, and a sly sense of humour. Watch it here:
It’s seems the new original slasher boom will continue to deliver – the idea here of a killer specifically hunting down loved-up couples feels fresh. There’s not a huge amount of plot to get into yet, but that eerie masked foe is known as the ‘Heart Eyes Killer’. The cast list – most of whom will likely be...

Happy Halloween!
To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.
Directed by Josh Ruben, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples.
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies," said Ruben in a recent interview. "I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
The teaser doesn't really show us much... until the last few shots, which spotlight a pretty inventive and gruesome kill. We see Heart Eyes plunge a carjack into an unfortunate victim's mouth, then grab his girlfriend and impale her head on the other end of it.

Chloe Troast is looking back at her time on Saturday Night Live.
The 27-year-old comedian appeared on one season of the NBC sketch comedy series as the only new featured player for season 49.
While accepting a Club Cosmo Award from Cosmopolitan and UTA Next Gen, Chloe opened up about not being asked back for SNL‘s landmark 50th season.
Keep reading to find out more…“About a month ago, I found out I wouldn’t be returning to my dream job on Saturday Night Live,” Chloe said, via EW. “Very Gen Z of me to get fired.”
“There are not a lot of people in this world that can relate to you when you lose a job like Saturday Night Live, besides maybe Adam Sandler, Jenny Slate, Michaela Watkins, John Cusack, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Robert Downey Jr., Billy Crystal — but no way you know their names,” Chloe joked. “Even so, I felt broken.

Despite the fact that he still just can’t get over the fact that NBC fired Shane Gillis for publicly making racist and homophobic comments, Lorne Michaels seems a tad less broken up about the recent nixing of Saturday Night Live cast members Punkie Johnson, Molly Kearney and Chloe Troast. While Johnson and Kearney were less vocal on the matter when the news first hit last month, Troast quickly revealed on Instagram that she was “not asked back to SNL this season.”
This was a real bummer to be honest, since all three of them were solid performers. And Troast was only given one season to prove herself as a featured player. Even within that brief window of time, though, she managed to stand out in sketches like “Little Orphan Cassidy.”

One of the buzziest films of the 2024 Telluride Film Festival has been the upcoming Sony feature based on the first ever live performance of the pop culture staple “Saturday Night Live.” What no one saw coming was that one of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players, Bill Murray, would introduce the film alongside director Jason Reitman, who were both welcomed with a standing ovation of massively supportive fans and industry insiders.
At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television and pop culture forever. “Saturday Night” is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of what was originally called “NBC’s Saturday Night” (because a competing show with Howard Cosell had the “Saturday Night Live” title). Full of humor, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t,...

Tayarisha Poe’s film The Young Wife takes us through a tumultuous day in the life of Celestina as she prepares for her non-wedding celebration. Poe draws us deftly into Celestina’s swirling mindset as anxieties and doubts collide with the demands of the day.
Celestina wants only to express her love for River outside of rigid traditions. Yet preparations bring unwelcome interventions, with well-meaning friends and family misunderstanding her non-wedding vision. Their questions and concerns weigh heavily on Celestina as she balances caterers and flowers with deeper reflections on commitment and future paths.
Meanwhile, memories of past regrets surface. We learn of friendships fractured by tragedy and a stifling corporate job recently fled without explanation. Celestina’s distress mounts from pressures both within and out of her control.
Director Poe handles this emotional maelstrom with nuanced empathy. Her writing and the guidance of breakout star Kiersey Clemons bring Celestina...

Stars: Justice Smith, David Alan Grier, An-Li Bogan, Drew Tarver, Michaela Watkins, Aisha Hinds, Tim Baltz, Rupert Friend, Nicole Byer | Written and Directed by Kobi Libii
The debut feature from writer-director Kobi Libii, this blackly comic fantasy comedy has a solid central idea, but never quite gets to grips with its own satirical intent. Ultimately, it works better as an offbeat romantic comedy, thanks to an engaging central performance and charming chemistry between the two leads.
Justice Smith stars as Aaron Mbondo, an artist in Los Angeles whose yarn sculptures aren’t quite cutting it with the art gallery crowd. After a painful show, during which he’s mistaken for a waiter, insult is added to injury when he’s nearly beaten up by some white guys who think he’s a mugger. However, he’s rescued at the last minute by Roger (David Alan Grier), a server he recognises from the gallery.

The Bentonville Film Foundation celebrated the conclusion of their 10th anniversary year on Sunday with the announcement of their narrative, documentary, short film and episodic winners.
The annual fest amplifies female, non-binary, Lgbtqia+, Bipoc and people with disabilities’ voices in entertainment. This year’s event ran from June 10 to 16 in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Suze from Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark won the festival’s best narrative feature award. In their statement, the jury — which included Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter — noted that the film “captivated us with its tender, funny and charming portrayal of a modern-day odd couple. We were blown away by Michaela Watkins and Charlie Gillespie, who turn in wonderfully heartfelt and delightful performances. This is a film that showcases the power of compassion and the beauty of unlikely friendships.”
In the same category, Tokyo Cowboy received an honorable mention and Boca Chica took home a special jury recognition.

Just because Celestina, the soon-to-be young wife in the “The Young Wife” told friends and family that while the honor of their presence was requested, they would be attending a party, not a wedding, doesn’t make it so. The weight of family, community and ritual aren’t so easily evaded. Or embraced.
So, on the day of her and River’s nuptials, she appears to be wrestling less with the meaning of marriage and more with the weight of the word “wife.” Warm hearts and cooling feet is nothing new for movies, of course, but Kiersey Clemons’ portrayal of Celestina — her head spinning — raises the stakes of love and liberty.
Writer-director Tayarisha Poe has populated her sophomore feature with characters of a neo-bohemian, united colors-of-who-the-fuck-cares aura. Guests arrive with sartorial flash, expressive finery, hairdos that signal independence for days and attitudes that combine and recombine the traditional with the rebellious.

This is a slow weekend in an already slow summer movie season, so it’s the perfect time to catch up with spring’s best horror release and a handful of new indies that are debuting on digital platforms.
The contender to watch this week: “The First Omen“
At a time when many franchises are slowly cratering, “The First Omen” has turned out to be one of 2024’s biggest surprises. Arkasha Stevenson‘s handsome and terrifying prequel depicts the events right before Demian, the Og Antichrist, came around. If that sounds unnecessary, it is — and yet the film’s quality absolutely justifies its existence. “The First Omen” is still playing in a smattering of theaters, having grossed $53.7 worldwide, but now it’s available for $19.99 on VOD.
Other contenders:
“Gasoline Rainbow”: Mubi is having a major year, with two buzzy Cannes titles — “The Substance” and “The Girl with the Needle...

Actors Henry Hall and Daniel Thrasher looked back at their favorite moments from working on the show Dinner with the Parents.
Dinner with the Parents is a new sitcom that follows the two twenty-something Langer brothers (Hall and Thrasher) who attend weekly dinners at their parents’ house; each gathering is sure to be chaotic and disastrous by nature.
Hall, the son of Brad Hall and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, overviewed his role in the show for uInterview founder Erik Meers, “I play David Langer, the eldest of the Langer siblings, and every Friday night I come home for… Shabbat dinner with my ‘lovely’ family, and I walk in the front door hoping that everything is going to be normal; I’ll be asked how I’m doing, I’ll ask how they’re doing, and we’ll sit down and have an orderly and nice dinner. "Will you love him like we love him?" "Will you actually make time for us?" Republic Pictures / Paramount Movies has revealed the trailer for an indie film titled The Young Wife, the second feature film made by filmmaker Tayarisha Poe, after Selah and the Spades from Sundance 2019. This new one premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year, and it will finally be out on VOD at the end of this month to watch. On her wedding day, all that stands between a young woman named Celestina and marital bliss with her soon-to-be husband (played by the singer / songwriter Leon Bridges) is surviving the chaos and expectations of family and friends, each intensifying her spiraling panic. It's a story about marriage and all that comes with it, good and bad. Starring Kiersey Clemons as Celestina, with Kelly Marie Tran & Michaela Watkins.

Actors Michaela Watkins and Dan Bakkedahl reminisce about the filming of their new show Dinner with the Parents in their new uInterview.
Dinner with the Parents follows the escapades of two Langer brothers in their twenties who regularly attend dinner at their parents’ house – the family gathers every week for dinner, only to find themselves filled with remorse afterward. The show amusingly portrays their weekly family gatherings’ chaotic and disastrous nature.
“Dan makes me spit-take, genuinely,” Watkins told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I just don’t see it coming, and he knocks me sideways with comedy. I mean, I laugh a lot. I was watching the episodes, and I was going, ‘Okay, it’s not just me.’ My husband and I were just cracking up.”
She told Bakkedahl, “I remember the episodes where you had the hot wings, and you’re not feeling well and sweating, and you’re about to throw up.

American TV bosses obviously didn’t learn many lessons from “Episodes,” the Showtime/BBC co-production which brilliantly skewered the habit of adapting British sitcoms, and removing all nuances, subtleties, and idiosyncrasies in the process. In the 13 years since its premiere, there’s been numerous failed pilots (“Spy”), ratings disasters (“Free Agents”), and entire series considered unfit for public consumption (“Us and Them”) which originated across the pond. Now the most singular UK comedy of the 2010s is going transatlantic.
The BAFTA-nominated “Friday Night Dinner” — which served up 37 episodes from 2011-2020 —stemmed from creator Robert Popper’s real-life secular Jewish family and their weekly Shabbat meals, explaining why everything from its suburban London home to its lovable oddballs feels so wonderfully specific. Disappointingly, Amazon Freevee’s “Dinner with the Parents” is as generic as its title.
The 10-part series on Freevee does attempt to retain some of the original’s quirks.

Almost everyone knows what it’s like, the concept of Dinner with the Parents, but Amazon Freevee is taking the idea and raising it a few notches for this chaotically hilarious new comedy arriving April 18. In an exclusive first look at the series, the trailer, above, offers a glimpse into the Friday night gatherings of the closely-knit Langer family made up of mom Jane (Michaela Watkins), dad Harvey (Dan Bakkedahl), nana Rose (Carol Kane), and sons David (Henry Hall) and Gregg (Daniel Thrasher). “This show is so much fun to make because we get to push the limits of what a family comedy can be — how flawed the characters, how fast the pace, how far things escalate,” series showrunner and executive producer Jon Beckerman tells TV Insider. “We’re hoping that, when people watch it, they’ll think, ‘This family is bonkers. But I wish it was mine.'” As...

The last cork has been popped and the final flute of Kirkland Signatures sparkling wine drained down to the last drop. Old Man 2023 has gathered his sash about his withered frame and slunk into the night, clearing the way for cherubic New Year 2024–giggly, chubby and brimming with promise.

The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.
