Martin Freeman defends his new film, Miller’s Girl, from the criticism it has received for the age gap between him and his co-star, Jenna Ortega.
The erotic thriller, written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, depicts an affair between a student and a teacher. In real life, Freeman is 52 years old, while the Wednesday star is 21.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Office UK alum said the film is “grown-up and nuanced,” adding that the film is not saying, “Isn’t this great.”
“And that’s a shame,” Freeman noted, about the stories about difficult subjects that can be tainted by association before referencing Schindler’s List, saying, “Are we gonna have a go at Liam Neeson for being in a film about the Holocaust?”

The fact that Jenna Ortega won’t be in Scream 7 was a shocking announcement last month (apparently her absence from the sequel is due to a pay dispute), but there are still going to be plenty of chances to see her on our screens regularly. She’s set to start filming Wednesday season 2 in a few months, she’s in the crime thriller Finestkind (which just started streaming on Paramount+ last Friday), and on January 26th she’ll be back on the big screen when Lionsgate gives the psychological thriller Miller’s Girl a theatrical release. With that release date just one month away, a trailer for Miller’s Girl has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Jenna Ortega is trying on playing a seductress for size. The “Beetlejuice 2” and “Wednesday” star leads psychological thriller “Miller’s Girl” in what appears to be a ’90s-esque tale of twisted teen power dynamics set against the backdrop of an elite university.
Martin Freeman stars as the titular Mr. Miller, a teacher who becomes entangled with talented student Cairo (Ortega), who has an agenda all her own. As 18-year-old Cairo taunts Mr. Miller into a game of truth or dare, a more sinister scheme of blackmailing ensues.
The official synopsis reads: “A talented young writer (Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.”

Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman find themselves embroiled in a heated student-teacher dynamic in the trailer for the upcoming feature Miller’s Girl.
Lionsgate is set to release the film from writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett on Jan. 26 after it debuts at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier that month. Ortega stars as Cairo, a promising writer who navigates her complicated relationship with Jonathan Miller (Freeman) after his assignment leads to tension.

Later, Freeman laments, “If she can convince them that something happened between us, I would lose my job.”

Fresh out of movie theaters, Lionsgate’s horror movie Cobweb is now available at home on Digital, and the film has also just been released onto DVD and Blu-ray today, September 12.
The feature directorial debut of Samuel Bodin, creator of Netflix’s “Marianne,” Cobweb was released in limited theaters in July with very little promotion and very little fanfare, and it ended up being so hard to find that most fans didn’t even get a chance to see it.
Now you can watch the movie at home, and to whet your appetite we’re sharing an exclusive sneak peek at the bonus features package for the just-released Cobweb Blu-ray.

When Lionsgate first announced that they were developing a genre project called Cobweb, the company – which had previously brought us horror films like The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever, the Hostel films, and of course the Saw franchise – said they were doing so with the intention of taking back their “ownership” of horror. But the movie doesn’t seem to have made much of an impact since reaching theatres at the end of last month. We previously heard that Cobweb will be getting a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release on September 12th (copies of the Blu-ray and DVD releases can be pre-ordered at This Link)… but now it has been revealed that the digital release is actually going to happen this Friday, August 11th! The digital version of the film can be pre-ordered right Here.

Four and a half years ago, Lionsgate – a studio that had once been a prominent force in the horror genre, with releases like The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever, the Hostel films, and of course the Saw franchise – announced that they were developing a genre project called Cobweb with the intention of taking back their “ownership” of horror. The film was given a theatrical release at the end of last month… but we haven’t heard anything about how it’s done at the domestic box office. It hasn’t been listed on any box office charts. The only number we have is a worldwide total that’s just under $2 million. So it seems not many people have seen Cobweb. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video. “Are you horny?” asks Lolo (Sherry Cola) in the second red-band trailer for “Joy Ride,” which Lionsgate released on Thursday, before proceeding to talk about d–ks and how much she loves the sounds of sex.
In the raunchy comedy, which is directed by “Crazy Rich Asians” co-screenwriter Adele Lim, stars Ashley Park of “Beef” as Audrey, whose visit to China to find her birth mother becomes a crazy, drug- and alcohol-fueled road trip with her friends.
Audrey’s efforts to impress Chinese men fail when she admits, “I’m just a garbage American who only speaks English. And a little Gollum,” as she launches into the “Lord of the Rings” character’s “my precious” speech.

Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu, Sherry Cola and their girlfriends gets pretty raunchy in the latest trailer for Adele Lim’s shock friendship comedy Joy Ride, which is R-rated and set for a July 7 theatrical release.
“Sex isn’t shameful. It’s beautiful. Like the noises,” Cola, who plays Lolo, tells a young man at one point in the trailer, where she then uses a hand slap and slurping and gagging sounds to mimic the sex act. The Joy Ride teaser centers on four unlikely friends joining Audrey (Ashley Park) on a business trip to Asia that quickly goes sideways.

Who — or what — is knocking on the wall? That’s the mystery at the center of Samuel Bodin’s feature directorial debut, “Cobweb,” which unveiled its first trailer on Wednesday.
As the trailer lays out, a young boy named Peter is hearing a chronic knocking behind his bedroom wall. But his overly amiable parents, played with menacing glee by Lizzy Caplan (“Fatal Attraction”) and Antony Starr (“The Boys”), chalk it up to his overactive imagination. But as Peter becomes more afraid, the question is whether his parents might be involved in something horrifying.
There’s an old-school “Tales From the Crypt” vibe to everything, though the movie is playing up its echoes of “Barbarian,” aided by the fact that producer Roy Lee worked on both features. Caplan and Starr seem perfectly suited to playing frightening parents with a secret, more so if you’ve watched their previous work over the last year or so.

The most fearsome fighting team is back in a new movie, and from what we’re hearing, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is the Tmnt film fans have been waiting for! The latest animated adventure featuring the Heroes in a Half-Shell debuted an unfinished film cut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Monday, receiving a six-minute standing ovation. According to attendees, the applause was so loud that director Jeff Rowe returned to the stage to bask in the celebratory afterglow.
Speaking with The Wrap, Rowe commented on the momentous occasion, saying, “Being in the room and feeling all the reactions and hearing all the laughter was amazing, but what really stood out to me was to see our movie received and appreciated in that way by a lot of people who really love and care about animation.”
It’s worth noting the version screened at Annecy is a work-in-progress film cut.

Can you kick it? The brand-spankin’ new trailer for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movie’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been released. This new continuity comes from “permanent teenager” Seth Rogen, who had announced that he intended to aim for the teenage aspect of our beloved heroes in a half-shell. It looks to be their youngest interpretation yet, as the foursome display a very child-like excitement and wonder while being down for some good ol’ adolescent mischief. It just so happens that they have ninja skills and can utilize them to foil some of the city’s criminal activities.
The official synopsis from Paramount and Nickelodeon reads,
After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate,...

Four and a half years ago, it was announced that Lionsgate – a studio that had once been a prominent force in the horror genre, with releases like The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever, the Hostel films, and of course the Saw franchise – was developing a genre project called Cobweb with the intention of taking back their “ownership” of horror. As Peter’s fear intensifies, he believes that...

Stephanie Hsu broke out in a big way last year in A24's "Everything Everywhere All at Once," which can now call itself one of the most decorated Oscar-winning films in cinema history, including taking home Best Picture.
