Hosted by “All My Children” alums Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, who played Hayley Vaughan Santos and Mateo Santos, respectively, on the daytime drama series, Mathison, who previously played Ryan Lavery, will stop by to speak with his former colleagues on Monday, April 14. The episode will also feature “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams as she talks about the reality show’s latest season.

Max’s Harley Quinn always seems to outdo itself from season to season, and creatives aren’t resting on their laurels. In an exclusive interview with The Direct, writer Dean Lorey hinted at what is to come for a potential Season 6. Currently, the acrobatic anti-hero of Gotham, voiced by Kaley Cuoco, has taken her business to Metropolis, the homestead of Superman himself. While fans wait to hear about renewal news for the next season, Lorey and his team are already thinking of new and exciting prospects for Harley and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell).

With a new job, Harley Quinn prepares for a day in the city. However, almost immediately, things go sideways. Harley Quinn now must take on the biggest newspaper in Metropolis, but lucky for her, she has a man on the inside. “Bottle My Heart” gets into the silliness of Clayface’s plan, so of course it intersects with the Brainaic threat. The wait for Creature Commandos Season 2 may not be as long as some fans were expecting. Showrunner Dean Lorey recently confirmed that development has already begun on the next season of the adult animated series.

Speaking with The Direct to promote Harley Quinn Season 5, Lorey confirmed that the writers' room has already reassembled to figure out the story for next season. "Yeah. I mean, it's still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out. So it's definitely moving forward," he exclaimed. "I mean, it's like, they put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we're in it."Creature Commandos was renewed for a second season by Max and DC Studios in December 2024.

Whether you believe the superhero bubble has burst or not, it's fair to say that very little in terms of the genre can truly be considered "novel" or "boundary-pushing" anymore ... but leave it to "Harley Quinn," the animated show about some of DC's baddest villains, to continue bucking that trend. Much like its title character, the streaming series' arc has hardly been a conventional one. Originally debuting in 2019 on a long-forgotten standalone service known as DC Universe (it wasn't very impressive, as our review at the time proved), the series survived the move to what was known at the time as HBO Max before finally finding a home on Max. Now running for five seasons strong, "Harley Quinn" is set to take its biggest and boldest swing yet. And, honestly, this should be making much more pop culture noise than it currently is.

Harley Quinn returns for its fifth season on Max, continuing its unconventional take on DC’s most chaotic anti-hero. Despite DC struggling for over a decade, the unapologetic form of Dr. Harleen Quinzel has thrived, branching out three Margot Robbie movies in the DC Extended Universe and now surpassing even Batman: The Animated Series’ four-season run. Not to mention, it has also gotten a spin-off, Kite Man: Hell Yeah!

While it is devotedly followed by a strong fanbase, early reviews suggest cracks in Harley Quinn’s continued success. Once again voiced by The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco, the latest season debuted with an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes—a notable drop from its earlier highs. While 89% seems respectable, it pales compared to the show’s perfect 100% ratings for Seasons 2 and 3. Even Season 4 saw a dip to 96%, making this consecutive decline in critical reception hard to ignore.

With a new year comes a fresh slate of HBO shows, from long-anticipated returning favorites like “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us” to new series, from Noah Wyle’s next medical drama to Rachel Sennott’s comedy show.

At the beginning of 2025, HBO will debut “The Pitt,” which centers on a Pittsburgh hospital, while Mike White’s anthology series returns with a new group of tourists in Thailand and one familiar face with “The White Lotus” Season 3. The Front Room is a psychological horror drama film written and directed by Max and Sam Eggers. Based on the 2016 short story of the same name by Susan Hill, the 2024 film follows Belinda, a newly pregnant young woman whose mother-in-law suddenly moves in with them and tries to get control over the unborn child, and now it’s up to Belinda to create boundaries.

There are just three episodes left in the third and final season of What If…?, the animated MCU series that explores alternate timelines in the multiverse, and ahead of the finale, director Bryan Andrews is revealing which characters he really would have liked to tackle, but never got the chance to. Debuting in 2021, What If…? was an instant hit when it premiered on Disney+ as the first series produced by Marvel Studios Animation, earning a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 89% from critics and 92% from fans.

Sundance added 57 short films to its impressive 2025 lineup on Monday, including new films starring Dagmara Domińcyzk, J. Smith Cameron, Kenneth Lonergan, and Martin Starr.

“Our program would never be complete without a curation of outstanding short films, and we’re excited to share the 2025 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Program today,” said Kim Yutani, Sundance Film Festival Director of Programming. “These projects are varied in style and substance, but across all categories, they represent the power of short-form storytelling beautifully.”

“Our Short Film Program celebrates fresh styles and unique stories. The short run time encourages innovation,” said Mike Plante, Senior Programmer, Short Film. “Audiences will find much of the next generation of film talent here, with raw, exciting and inspired filmmaking from around the world in each of our eight programs.”

According to the Sundance press release, “The 57 short films selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival were chosen from 11,153 submissions.

With the features lineup out of the way last week, the 2025 Sundance Film Festival has revealed the short films headed to Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, for the event’s 41st edition. Beginning January 23 through February 2, festival attendees can catch 57 short films from 28 countries and territories — including live action, animated, and nonfiction documentary titles. Shorts will also be available online during the festival’s second half along with select feature sections.

The 57 short films selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival were chosen from 11,153 submissions. Out of these submissions, 4,909 came from the U.S. and 6,244 were international. The selected films will be eligible for juried awards at the end of the festivals.
