Cargo Entertainment announced today that Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Take Shelter, Revolutionary Road) and Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie) have been added to the cast of writer-director Siofra Campbell’s thriller The Price.

Shannon and Schweighöfer join Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus), who plays the frantic mother of a kidnapped child who realizes that her ex-partner, played by Shannon, is the instigator and must deal with the fall-out when he is double-crossed.

Under the recently announced partnership between Marina Grasic’s Cargo Entertainment and Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International, Steinbauer, in her new role as Cargo’s President of Distribution, is handling foreign sales on the project at the ongoing Cannes Film Market.

Reich-Ranicki set for German TV honor
Cologne, Germany -- Germany's best-known book critic, the entertaining and irascible Marcel Reich-Ranicki, will receive a lifetime achievement honor at this year's German Television Awards, the German equivalent of the Emmys.

A survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, Reich-Ranicki was a key figure in the rehabilitation of German literature after World War II. In 2006, the University of Tel Aviv established the Marcel-Reich-Ranicki chair for German literature in his honor.

Reich-Ranicki became a household name in Germany for his TV show, "The Literary Quartet," which ran on public broadcaster ZDF from 1988-2001. His recommendations became instant best-sellers and his opinionated critiques, delivered in his inimitable biting style, made him a celebrity.

Public broadcaster WDR is in postproduction on a telefilm based on his autobiography, "My Life," which stars Matthias Schweighöfer as the young Reich-Ranicki.

Marcel Reich-Ranicki will be honored at the German TV Awards gala Saturday night in Cologne.
