Henry Cavill’s ‘Highlander’ Reboot Just Got a Mythical Update
Image
It’s been a few months since any news was revealed about Henry Cavill’s Highlander remake, but a new report has just unveiled a major development. It was announced nearly four years ago that Henry Cavill would lead a Highlander remake, with veteran John Wick director Chad Stahelski coming on board to helm the film. The last major update to come from the film was when Stahelski confirmed to Collider in November 2024 that there were plans to begin shooting in January this year, but it’s unknown if that has come to fruition. A new report from Deadline reports that United Artists, a subsidiary of Amazon MGM Studios, is in final negotiations to acquire the film for distribution. Michael Finch will pen the script for the film after previously writing John Wick: Chapter 4.

Henry Cavill may have hung up his cape after making his final appearance as Superman in Black Adam,...

‘Highlander’ Reboot with Henry Cavill Moves from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM and United Artists
Image
The Highlander cannot die! After originally being set up at Lionsgate as a potential new universe of movies from the director of the “John Wick” series, director Chad Stahelski’s remake of the 1980s cult film “Highlander” is changing sides.

Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, as led by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber, are in final negotiations to secure the rights to remake a new version of “Highlander,” again with the aim to release the film in theaters.

Instead of yet another new take on it, Stahelski is still attached to direct, and “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill is still attached to star (looks like all of that sword training he told CinemaCon crowds he was doing won’t go to waste). Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) is writing the screenplay. United Artists too still has hopes that the film could be developed into a larger new series.

Highlander remake starring Henry Cavill finds a new home at Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists
Image
The Highlander remake has been a long time coming. Seriously, this thing has been languishing in development hell for well over a decade at this point. The project is still inching forward, but Deadline reports that it’s headed to a new home. Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists is in final negotiations to acquire the Highlander remake from Lionsgate.

Lionsgate had planned an expansive new franchise for Highlander under Chad Stahelski’s direction, but Deadline’s report states that his “vision for the film fit better into the Amazon model.” The new deal will give United Artists full rights to the franchise, with Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt set to produce alongside Neal H. Moritz and 87Eleven Entertainment.

Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists’ (UA) and Scott Stuber are in final talks to secure the rights to the cult classic 1980s action fantasy franchise “Highlander” and the planned remake set to begin production this fall. The film will be released in theaters and is being acquired in turnaround from Lionsgate.

UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce alongside Neal H. Moritz (“Fast & Furious” franchise), and 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski’s production banner.

UA has secured full rights to the franchise, which Lionsgate developed, with potential to also develop a new series.

It’s a reunion at Amazon MGM studios for Cavill, who is headlining Rawson Marshall Thurber’s “Voltron” feature adaptation of the popular anime series. Cavill is also developing the “Warhammer 40,000...

John Wick Director's Highlander Reboot Starring Henry Cavill Gets an Exciting Release Update
Image
Big news has been revealed for the Highlander reboot featuring beloved actor Henry Cavill. With the rights to the film almost secured, the new Highlander may soon be finally getting an official release date.

Per Deadline, Cavill's Highlander film is very close to being picked up by Amazon MGM Studios' United Artists and Scott Stuber, who are in final negotiations to land the rights. Should the deal go through, Stuber will serve as a producer on the project for United Artists alongside Nick Nesbitt and Neal H. Moritz and director Chad Stahelski's 87Eleven Entertainment. With John Wick franchise director Stahelski at the helm, the movie's screenplay comes from Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4).

United Artists reportedly sought the full rights to the franchise. There are apparently big plans to potentially do more with Highlander beyond the new film starring Cavill, with a tie-in TV series named as a possibility in the Deadline report.

When Dwayne Johnson Tried To Cast Tom Cruise & Keanu Reeves In Red Notice For His Ultimate Franchise Vision
Image
Dwayne Cruise Reeves Red Notice(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Dwayne Johnson had some massive names on his dream board for Red Notice. And not just Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. He aimed for the stars, literally. Word was, he wanted Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves to join the action-packed chaos. Now that’s a franchise flex.

Red Notice already smashed Netflix records on its debut. It logged a wild 148 million viewing hours on opening day, making it the streamer’s biggest launch at the time. Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot played high-stakes criminals (and one agent chasing them), flipping through museums, vaults, and betrayal like it was just another Tuesday. But even with that lineup, Johnson wasn’t done assembling his dream squad.

According to The Illuminerdi, Cruise had been set for a surprise cameo in the original movie. Just a quick drop-in, sure, but one that would’ve teased a bigger role in the sequel.

Taylor Sheridan bringing The Cannonball Run series to Paramount+?
Image
Four years after bringing the world the high speed comedy classic Smokey and the Bandit (and three years after their stuntman comedy Hooper and one year after Smokey and the Bandit II), director Hal Needham and star Burt Reynolds teamed up again for another high speed comedy, the goofball ensemble film The Cannonball Run. The film was a big hit, the sixth highest-grossing domestic film of 1981, and it was followed by a pair of less successful sequels, Cannonball Run II (1983) and Speed Zone (1989). Even though the follow-ups aren’t highly regarded, The Cannonball Run is still a well-known title, which is why we’ve been hearing rumblings of a remake for years. Now, industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is likely to be the one to finally bring The Cannonball Run back to the screen, as his production company, Bosque Ranch, is developing...

Dwayne Johnson's Action Thriller 'Skyscraper' Is Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
In the late 2010s, if you needed a leading man for a brains-off action/adventure movie, you called one person: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's agent. For a solid 5 years, The Rock was a fixture of movies that, at one time, would have been the perfect "sick on a Saturday" TNT rock block of entertainment. One of these popcorn flicks is 2018's Skyscraper, which is currently climbing the streaming charts. Skyscraper finds Johnson starring as Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and amputee who, after injuries sustained while on a hostage rescue mission, becomes a security consultant for high-rise buildings. After terrorists capture the tallest building in the world in Hong Kong and try and extort its developer, Sawyer must rescue his family, who are trapped inside the burning structure.

Written, co-produced, and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who reunited with The Rock on the huge Netflix action hit Red Notice...

'I'm Too Old Now': We're the Millers Star Gives Unfortunate Sequel Update
Image
We're the Millers was a big success when it came out in 2013. Naturally, New Line Cinema was interested in continuing the story and announced plans for a sequel in 2014, but the movie never happened.

Over a decade since the comedy came out in theaters, none of the actors have an encouraging update about the sequel. The comedy starred Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Will Poulter, and Emma Roberts. In a new interview with People at the SXSW Film & TV Festival to promote his latest film, Death of a Unicorn, Poulter revealed he doesn't think We're the Millers 2 will ever happen.

Speaking about the 2013 film and whether a sequel was in development, the actor said, "Like We're Still the Millers? There was, I think."

However, Poulter continued, "I don't think it's gonna happen. I mean, no one else is [but] I’m too old now. But, yeah, it was a fun time.

A Rejected James Gunn Script Nearly Teamed Up Two Comedic Titans In The 1990s
Image
James Gunn seemingly reached the nerd mountaintop upon becoming the co-chairman (with Peter Safran) of DC Studios in 2022. Nearly 30 years before that, however, he was just another struggling screenwriter slugging it out in the film industry trenches. Gunn earned his first screenplay credit as the co-writer of Troma Entertainment's "Tromeo and Juliet," which was not the calling-card effort that put him on Hollywood's radar. That would be his script for "The Specials," a superhero comedy that became a film under the direction of Craig Mazin in 2000.

Before that film was even made, though, Gunn found himself pitching projects to the major studios, one of which was a Silver Surfer movie at 20th Century Fox. Gunn knocked out a treatment that he once claimed was a "huge story, cosmic as hell," and he might've hung around to write the screenplay had another project not been dropped on his doorstep.

In 1999, filmmaker Jay Roach,...

A Live-Action ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Series ‘The Forgotten Realms’ Is in the Works at Netflix
Image
Netflix is moving forward with a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series titled “The Forgotten Realms.” The show is being developed by Shawn Levy, known for “Stranger Things” and the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” alongside writer-showrunner Drew Crevello and Hasbro Entertainment.

The series is set in the famous “Forgotten Realms” campaign setting, which has been a major part of the “Dungeons & Dragons” universe since its introduction in 1987. This fantasy world has been home to some of the game’s most well-known characters and stories, even serving as inspiration for the 2023 film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

Crevello, who previously worked on “WeCrashed,” wrote the pilot and will act as showrunner. He is also executive producing alongside Levy and Dan Levine under Levy’s production company, 21 Laps. While neither Netflix nor Hasbro Entertainment have officially commented, sources confirm the project is now in development at the streamer.

Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
Dungeons & Dragons | Netflix reportedly working on live action series
Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy is said to be making a Dungeons & Dragons live action series for Netflix.

Even before the success of Stranger Things put Dungeons & Dragons back into mainstream popular culture, there were several attempts to adapt the tabletop roleplaying game and turn it into a screen version for a wider audience. There was the classic 1980s cartoon of course, not to mention a less celebrated turn of the century film starring Jeremy Irons.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, backed by Paramount in 2023, went on to earn $205m at the global box office – not quite the sum that the studio would have been hoping for given that is reportedly cost around $150m to make, before the movie’s substantial marketing costs are even considered. It was a fun enough film buoyed by Chris Pine’s cheeky performance, but the numbers clearly didn’t add up...

Henry Cavill Makes Time for New Role as Ambassador for Luxury Watch Brand Longines
Image
It’s time to announce Henry Cavill’s new role — as an “ambassador of elegance” for luxury watch brand Longines.

In striking up the new collaboration, Cavill will soon visit the brand’s headquarters in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, where he can get a close look at the craftsmanship and details refined by the Swiss watchmaker over the course of its history that spans two centuries, back to 1832.

“What draws me to Longines is their understated elegance,” Cavill said in a statement. “True quality doesn’t need to announce itself. It’s evident in every detail and in every action. This is a philosophy, backed by generations of precision craftsmanship and artistry, that resonates deeply with my own values.”

Added Matthias Breschan, CEO of Longines: “In Henry, we recognize a real affinity with our brand’s values. His sophistication, genuine warmth and multifaceted personality reflect what elegance means today. Whether commanding the...

The Forgotten Realms: Live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series in the works at Netflix
Image
Deadline reports that Netflix has scooped up The Forgotten Realms, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series from Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Drew Crevello (WeCrashed).

You may recall that the Dungeons & Dragons series was originally developed for Paramount+, which gave it an eight-episode, straight-to-series order in 2023. The project was originally overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice), and Crevello later joined as executive producer and showrunner. However, it didn’t move forward and Hasbro Entertainment began the process of shopping the series elsewhere.

Crevello wrote the pilot for The Forgotten Realms and will serve as showrunner. He will also executive produce alongside Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner. It’s still early days, but it could launch a Dungeons & Dragons universe for Netflix.

Henry Cavill was a notable absentee among the former Superman actors who came together for a panel at Megacon Orlando. While fans speculated that Cavill’s absence could be due to his less-than-stellar exit from DC, one of these actors has revealed the real reason behind it. Tom Welling, who brought Superman to life in Smallville, shared that Cavill was busy with a shoot.

‘The New York Times’ Gets Ben Stiller to Confess That He Borrowed His ‘Dodgeball’ Villain From a Disney Movie
Image
In the early 2000s, Ben Stiller made a number of movies in which he played an awkward leading man who may or may not have to meet somebody’s parents. But he was just as good, if not better, at playing over-the-top comedic villains, as evidenced by his work as White Goodman in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

Disney fans quickly noticed that Goodman, the head of Globo Gym, was distinctly similar to another fitness-obsessed antagonist that Stiller once played: Tony Perkis Jr. from the 1995 Judd Apatow-scripted family comedy Heavyweights.

You can tell it was made in 1995, because it’s about a grown man literally torturing children to get them to lose weight.

As we’ve mentioned before, this observation has even inspired some fans to theorize that the two characters are one and the same, which would mean that Dodgeball takes place after Perkis has relocated, changed his...

Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40K Production Takes the Centre Stage but Leaves the Fate Another American Fan-Favorite Hanging in the Balance
Image
After spending a disappointing decade at Warner Bros. as a controversial Man of Steel, Henry Cavill seems to have finally found a solid footing with Amazon MGM. The streamer/motion picture studio now elevates Cavill to the prime of his life as the actor signs one deal after another in his chosen genre, highlighting just how creatively hungry he has been in hindsight.

However, with so many projects in the works, it looks like Cavill is biting off more than he can chew. With fans being more supportive than ever, especially after his unceremonious exile from two fan-favorite projects in the past, the British star cannot afford to take any more hits to his reputation within the industry. But at the rate he is going, the conclusion seems almost inevitable.

December 7 Is an Upsetting Day for Voltron Fans
Image
Netflix has shared disappointing news for fans of the Voltron franchise. The streaming service's critically acclaimed Voltron: Legendary Defender reboot will be removed from the platform next week.

DreamWorks and Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender premiered in 2016 and released 78 episodes over 8 seasons. The final season of the animated series aired on Netflix in December 2018. Earlier this year, it was reported that the Voltron reboot series would be departing from Netflix, with the official Voltron Instagram account responding and saying, "Discussions are ongoing. When we know, you'll know." It appears as if negotiations to keep the show on Netflix fell through, and it remains uncertain where (or even if) fans will have a way to legally stream the series in the future. Voltron: Legendary Defender will be removed from Netflix on Dec. 6.

January Will Be a Bad Month for Henry Cavill & Guy Ritchie Fans
Image
Guy Ritchie's next movie will no longer be hitting theaters in January 2025. Lionsgate has removed In the Grey, which reteams Ritchie with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill, from its 2025 release schedule.

According to Deadline, the reason Lionsgate has pulled In the Grey from its Jan. 17, 2025 release date is because the movie isn't finished. The action thriller wrapped filming in October 2024, meaning that Ritchie has spent more than a year completing post-production work and is still not finished. A new release date has not yet been announced by Lionsgate. It's a sad update for fans who were looking forward to seeing the filmmaker's third Cavill-led movie. The actor previously starred in 2015's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and 2024's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Henry Cavill's Favorite Movie (And Actor) Of All Time
Image
Henry Cavill might have just missed out on being Bond early in his career, but that didn't stop him from becoming a star. The Brit's show business journey hasn't been without a few missteps, such as when he was roped into Dwayne Johnson's bizarre attempt to remain in the now defunct DC Extended Universe, or when he abandoned "The Witcher" after having lobbied hard for the lead role of Geralt. But despite these setbacks, Cavill has become a household name and part of his success is down to the man's alarming commitment to his craft.

Much like his "Mission: Impossible — Fallout" co-star, Tom Cruise, Cavill has maintained a single-minded devotion to doing whatever is necessary to finish whatever project he's working on. With "Fallout," that manifested as a refusal to give up on a particularly difficult helicopter scene, with Cavill telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2021:

"It's what...

Gundam Movie Taps Jim Mickle to Replace Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Image
The long-in-development Gundam movie seemingly lost one director but gained a new one. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and beginning in 1979, Gundam has become one of the biggest global franchises. The series focuses on giant robots, better known as mecha, named Gundams. The franchise generates over $600 million in toys and merchandise sales annually. While the franchise has over 30 anime, it has never generated a live-action film, yet that will soon change as Legendary has acquired the showrunner of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Sweet Tooth.

Deadline reports that Jim Mickle has signed on to direct and write Gundam for Legendary Pictures. Mickle was not only the showrunner and director on Sweet Tooth, but also previously helmed the independent crime thriller Cold in July and the horror film We Are What We Are. Mickle replaces Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who had been attached to the project since 2021 with a planned Netflix release.

Move Over Transformers, Hollywood Is About To Get A New Giant Robot Franchise

Amazon MGM Studios may have found its next hit franchise with its upcoming live-action Voltron film, which could become the streamer's robot franchise to equal Transformers. After Voltron spent years in development hell, fans of the legendary animated mecha series will finally get to see the members of Voltron protect the galaxy with their robot lions in a whole new way.

Voltron already has well-established talent supporting it, as Henry Cavill recently joined the cast fresh off of leaving Netflix's The Witcher. Amazon's Voltron has also found a director in Rawson Marshall Thurber, who previously directed hits like We're The Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and Netflix's Red Notice. For Voltron, Amazon has the benefit of the source material's cosmic depth, distinctive human characters, and exciting story to make a blockbuster epic even beyond Transformers.

Henry Cavills New Superhero Movie Will Be His Perfect Superman & Witcher Replacement With One Big Difference
Image
Henry Cavill has officially been cast for the live-action Voltron movie, which could be the start of his next big superhero franchise. Cavill has proven himself perfect for heroic roles, with his portrayals of both Superman in the Dceu and Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher series allowing him to stand tall as an on-screen defender of the defenseless. However, since he has departed from these franchises, Cavill is wide open. The actor has a lot of exciting projects on the way, but there is something about Voltron that could satisfy those hoping to see Cavill again elevated as something akin to a superhero.

The live-action Voltron movie fits right in with Cavill's filmography. He has begun to define himself as the figurehead of nerd culture, joining up with several beloved fantasy and superhero IPs of which he himself is a fan. Cavill will lead the upcoming Highlander remake movie,...

Dodgeballs Original Ending Thankfully Didnt Happen But Made It Into The Movie Anyway
Image
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is about a team of misfits who, despite the odds, win it all, but the ending writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber originally wanted would have completely changed the tone of the movie. Dodgeball follows Vince Vaughns Peter Lafleur who reluctantly captains a dodgeball team of underdogs to save their sanctuary, Average Joes Gym, from foreclosure from Ben Stiller's White Goodman, making Dodgeball one of Ben Stiller's best movies. The movie is a classic David and Goliath story where the cast of Dodgeball's scrappy characters beat the soulless franchise Globo Gym in the climax.

Big summer comedies and sports movies traditionally have triumphant happy endings, but Thurber wanted Dodgeball to subvert genre norms. Reactions to Thurbers original ending for Dodgeball made the studio nervous. While Thurber did not get the exact ending he wanted, his version made it into the final cut of Dodgeball in an unexpected way.
