Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

Nominations for the 2013 Emmy Awards are in and, along with them, the usual outrage over those left off the list.
No love (again!) for Sons of Anarchy or Justified? Bad news for The Good Wife? And don't even get us started on Tatiana Maslany...
Scroll down to find out which actors and actresses would have been included on the lists of a few TV Fanatic staff members and then vote on your biggest Emmy snub.
Matt Richenthal: It's unfortunate that Emmy voters do not get FX, but that's been the case for years so it feels like a waste to even mentions the lack of acting nods for anyone on SoA or Justified. But assuming they do get basic network television channels, the lack of Nick Offerman and Parks and Recreation in general is baffling.

It's been almost two weeks since Arrow Season 1 wrapped up with the fantastic episode "Sacrifice" - and our team has finally had time to digest all the action.
In this edition of the Round Table, staff writers Kate Brooks, Nick McHatton and Carla Day are joined by Hank Otero, theowner of Hank's Entertainment Site, as they debate various aspects of the finale and look ahead to Arrow Season 2.
So pull up a virtual chair and let's do this!
----------------------------------------
Tommy is dead. React!
Kate: Shock. When they revealed the bar through his chest. I yelled "Nooooooooo!!!!" I'm incredibly sad.
Nick: My entire view of the series is upended now because of his death. I think all of us, because of the comics, were expecting Tommy to slowly become Oliver's biggest rival and nemesis. I'll certainly miss Colin on the show every week, and I'm happy his death was one of selflessness and sacrifice.

The 2012-2013 television season is behind us.
And while the TV Fanatic staff is looking forward to a number of summer shows, we're also taking a few moments to look back, answering one simple question below: What was the best finale of the past season?
Scroll down for a number of responses and then vote on your own...
Miranda Wicker: This isn't even a question: Scandal. There was resolution. There was a setup for season 3. There was one hell of a shocking revelation and cliffhanger. Hands down, that was how to end a season.
Jim Garner: Nashville. Honestly, I spent the better part of that episode in tears for one reason or another. So powerful!
Chandel Charles: Scandal and Revenge were both doozies for me. So they definitely top my list for non-cable drama season finales.
Leigh Raines: My obvious choice is Scandal. That white fedora and the end reveal…...

Sunday's episode of Revenge saw the second season come to a close in epic fashion.
Below, TV Fanatic's Kate Brooks, Christine Orlando, Carla Day, Miranda Wicker and Steve Marsi break down all the "Truth" that came out and look ahead to next fall's Season 3.
Weigh in with your own responses regarding all of these Revenge topics below!
-------------------------------------------
1. What was your favorite quote or scene from "Truth"?
Miranda: All of it? If I have to narrow it down to one, "I'm Amanda Clarke" was the very best scene of the season.
Kate: "I'm Amanda Clarke." #finally
Christine: Yes, Emily finally telling Jack the truth was definitely the scene of the night but I've got to give kudos to Declan and Nolan's last scene together. Who would have thought that Declan Porter could get me that choked up? Poor Nolan was devastated when he realized that all of his money and connections couldn't save his friend.

Henry: Actually, I was expecting him to be even more upset upon seeing Moira again. The guy is no fool, the second he came to in that small cell, I'm sure he realized Moira was involved with his kidnapping.

Miranda: Emily breaking down over the loss of Amanda and being comforted by Aiden was great. We so seldom see her display emotion that when she does it's a good reminder that she's really human after all.
Christine: I agree with Miranda but for a different reason. I liked Emily's meltdown as she tried to scrub the blood off her hands but mostly because of Nolan's reaction. He's always there for her.

Miranda: I chuckled at Nolan's "Groucho Snarx" line, but there was something poetic about Aiden saying he could "subsist on hope." So it's a tie for me between those two quotes. As for a scene, I loved Emily asking Aiden to meet her at the beach and saying she needed an honest moment.
Leigh: Favorite scene was Emily and Nolan together at the end piecing it all together.
Below, TV Fanatic's Miranda Wicker, Kate Brooks Christine Orlando and Leigh Raines break down the various acts of "Collusion" and look ahead to February in our weekly Round Table Q&A.

The lives of Laurel and Oliver get intertwined when she reached out to Arrow for help last week, as her request got Oliver out of his post-injury funk, but also provided her father access to the vigilante.
Our Arrow Round Table this week includes staff writers Carla Day and Kate Brooks, along with Laurel Brown from BuddyTV, as they meet to discuss the aftermath of the Dark Archer's attack, Quentin's betrayal of his daughter, when Tommy will figure out the truth and whether or not the flashbacks are necessary.
--------------------------
What was your favorite moment in "Burned?"
Kate: When Oliver got his balls back and was Arrow again.
Laurel: Oddly, the moment that sticks out for me is toward the end when Oliver -- full of renewed passion for vigilantism -- turns to Diggle with glee and talks about going hunting. A show as dark and as grim as Arrow...

Kate: The reveal at the end with Padma being with the Initiative. I have had this off feeling about her for such a long time that I am glad she did indeed turn out to be bad.
Leigh: I enjoyed the interaction between Aiden and Nolan at the wine auction. Nolan calling Aiden James Bond and Aiden finally welcoming Nolan into the fold.

On the latest episode of Elementary, "M," we were taken through a storm of emotions - from the introduction of Moriarty... to the death of Sherlock's love Irene Adler... to Watson lying to Holmes to stay around.
In this edition of the Elementary Round Table, Kate Brooks and Jim Garner of TV Fanatic - along with Amanda from Grizzlybomb.com and Brian from Geek Magazine - respond to this phenomenal episode and more!

What was your favorite scene in the episode?
Kate: The moment between Sherlock and Joan on the couch towards the end. Sherlock was in tears discussing what happened, etc. and Watson was there to console him. Beautiful scene and beautifully done by both actors.
Jim: Joan and Sherlock on the couch at the police station. The sheer emotion on Sherlock's face, mixed with repeating Joan's own words back to her, had me nearly in tears. He...

Sunday's episode of Revenge saw Emily return to her roots, while Daniel attempted to cement control of the company, Emily and Aiden staged a "fake-up" and things took a dark turn for the Porters.

1. What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Conrad reading his paper, acting all glib while Victoria schemed and plotted and worried about Daniel. I love seeing these two on the same shady side. It means something exciting is bound to go down!
Kate: Definitely when Patricia outed her husband at the dinner. "The greater the power, the greater the potential for abuse" and cue the removal of the jacket to reveal the bruising.

"Dirty Laundry" marked the 2013 premiere of Elementary Season 1, as we watched Holmes and Watson go through a whirlwind of murder, hookers and Russian spies.
In this edition of the Elementary Round Table, Kate Brooks and Jim Garner of TV Fanatic - along with Amanda from Grizzlybomb.com and Brian from Geek Magazine - respond to all these happenings and much more.
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene in the episode?
Kate: The final scene with Watson and Sherlock on the bench. I liked the quick moment of shock on his face when Watson told him she already took a new job.
Brian: The part with the call girl, hands down. This was the only real time the Sherlock shined as most of the episode was about Watson.
Jim: I loved all the banter about Watson becoming Holmes' assistant. It was a great nod to the classic version and kept us thinking about her upcoming departure.

We've arrived at the end.
Following a year-end countdown that has asked readers to vote on the Best New Show of 2012, along with the Best Comedy, it's now time to decide on the very best of those best.
Join our staff below and weigh in, TV Fanatics: What was the Best Show of 2012?
Miranda Wicker: Scandal. No show has captured my attention or kept me on my toes the way that this one has. Everything about it from the writing to the costuming is fantastic.
Kate Brooks: Revenge.
Gabrielle Moss: Breaking Bad.
Matt Richenthal: Dexter was not the best show of 2012. But it deserves recognition for the best bounce-back in recent memory. Dexter Season 6 was a disaster, but Dexter Season 7 was as engrossing, intriguing and as well-paced as this series gets.
Nick McHatton: Awake.

2012 was a terrific dozen months in television. But even more so for some actors and actresses than others.
In our year-end countdown - which thus far has included the Funniest Show of 2012, the Best Character, the Best Episode, the Best Male Performance, the Best Female Performance, the Best Couple, the Best Villain, the Best Feud and the Best New Show - we've now arrived at the following question for our staff and readers:
Who was the breakout star of 2012?
Christine Orlando: Josh Henderson as John Ross Ewing III on Dallas. Playing Jr Ewing's son is no small role, but Josh manages to infuse John Ross with the deviousness of his father and still makes me believe there's a big heart inside this character. I went into the new Dallas thinking I'd be rooting for Christopher Ewing, but it's been John Ross all the way since Henderson hit the screen.

Kate Brooks: Happy Endings.
Gabrielle Moss: Bob's Burgers. If you're a fan of classic Simpsons-style wit, or a fan of alternative comedy (everyone from Sarah Silverman to Zach Galifianakis has done a guest voice), there is just no reason to sleep on this gem of a show.

From the Best Episode of 2012 to Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Couple, Best Villain, Best Feud and Best New Show, the TV Fanatic staff has spent the week running down the past 12 months on the small screen.
Now, we turn our attention to the fictional personas that make various shows what they are and we ask:
Who was the Best Character of 2012?
Kate Brooks: This Question Is So Hard!! I'm going to say Donna Paulson. Her increased presence in Suits Season 2 was the best thing that show ever did. I want her to be my best friend.
Neal Lynch: I love all the characters on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Dennis Reynolds is a self-destructive sociopath whose life is one big scheme. I look forward to seeing how his character arc concludes.
Matt Richenthal: For being one of the best shows on television, Justified has gone overlooked on this overall countdown.

The TV Fanatic staff with another year-end Round Table discussion.
Having already debated the Best Male Performance of 2012, along with Best Female, Best Couple to Best Villain, Best Feud and Best New Show... it's now time to focus on the Best Episode of the past 12 months.
Browse through our takes and then weigh in with your own...
Matt Richenthal: Game of Thrones, "Blackwater." An incredible display of action that I never thought I'd see on the small screen, capped off by an inspiring speech from Tyrion.
Miranda Wicker: The Vampire Diaries, "My Brother's Keeper." Three words: Hot Delena Sex.
Kate Brooks: The Revenge Season 1 finale, "Reckoning." Emily Vancamp's acting was at its best here. This finale left me speechless and in complete anticipation for Revenge Season 2. The final scenes were set to Florence + the Machine's song "Seven Devils." Talk about perfection! Can you tell I am obsessed with this show?...

It's time to give the men a turn.
After asking readers yesterday to weigh in on the Best Female Performance of 2012 - which followed discussions of the Best Couple to Best Villain, Best Feud and Best New Show of the year - staff members have now pulled up a virtual chair to the Round Table and answer the simple question below:
What was the best male performance of 2012?
Kate Brooks: Stephen Amell and every single one of his abs. God bless all six of them and of course his physical and emotional portrayal of Oliver Queen.
Nick McHatton: Ian Somerhalder on The Vampire Diaries. On paper, Damon isn't a very likable or exactly deep character, but he's also none of those on the screen. Thanks to Somerhalder.
Gabrielle Moss: Bryan Cranston as Walter White. A performer so powerful, he got my situation-comedy-loving butt to watch prestigious dramatic television!
Dan Forcella: Agreed.

Up now? The Best Female Performance of the past 12 months. Read through our responses and then weigh in with your own...
Carissa Pavlica: Claire Danes for Homeland. Right down to the last seconds of the finale, I was unsure where she would go with the role of Carrie Mathison. She is fabulous as a bipolar super agent.
Matt Richenthal: The only acceptable answer is Claire Danes.
Kate Brooks: Emily Vancamp in Revenge. I've always wondered how she doesn't win all of the awards. She's so crazy brilliant as Emily Thorne. She can cry at the drop of a pin… and that Emily Thorne stare will get you every time. So good.
Steve Marsi: Have to second Kate's nomination...

We've already asked readers to chime in on the Best Couple of the year, along with the Best Villain and Best Feud.
Now, it's time for the TV Fanatic staff to answer the following question: What was the best new show that debuted in the last 12 months?
Miranda Wicker: There's not even a little bit of doubt in my mind about this one: Scandal.
Dan Forcella: Ben and Kate is not only the best new show of the year, it's been one of the best overall comedies of 2012.
Kate Brooks: Perception!!!!!!
Steve Marsi: Nashville. Despite so many divergent storylines and a seeming lack of direction at times, the casting, teleplay and music are top notch and all eight episodes have been strong so far.
Gabrielle Moss: Despite an extremely mockable title, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 has been my favorite new show,...

Following our selections of the Best Villains and Best Feuds from the past 12 months, we now turn our attention to the in-love tandems we love to love, asking each other and then readers:
What was the Best Couple of 2012?
Kate Brooks: Aiden and Emily!!! Even if they pushed Nolan and Emily to the side to keep these two together on Revenge, I love it and I love them.
Miranda Wicker: Damon and Elena!! Even if I have to endure this stupid sire bond nonsense
Leigh Raines: Olivia and Fitz from Scandal. Even though they technically aren't together and it's cheating, you can't help but love them together. Especially after that gut wrenching scene in the rose garden from "Happy Birthday Mr. President."
Dan Forcella: I typically don't like to repeat someone's answer, but there is no better response...

With 2012 coming to a close, the TV Fanatic staff will be gathering around our virtual Round Table on a nearly daily basis.
Yesterday, we debated the year's Best Feud. Now, we sit back and answer: Who was the Best Villain on television in 2012?
Christine Orlando: I've got to go with the first villain I ever truly loved to hate. The iconic J.R. Ewing from Dallas. I'll never forget Larry Hagman's portrayal of the snarky, vengeful, funny, dastardly oil man who would cut his enemies off at the knees and manipulate his family to his advantage... yet never stopped trying to make his Daddy proud. I'm ever so grateful he got to wreck havoc on Dallas one more time in 2012.
Steve Marsi: How do you follow up Larry Hagman without sounding trite? We should rename this the J.R. Ewing Memorial Award. For which I nominate Joseph Morgan's Klaus for his continued,...

We were introduced to a pair of new characters on Arrow this week: Tommy's father and a fascinating love interest for Oliver.
What will the impact be of Mr. Merlyn and The Huntress? TV Fanatic Round Table panelists Carla Day, Leigh Raines, Kate Brooks and Craig from Greenarrowtv.com are here to debate that questions and many others related to "Muse of Fire."

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Carla: When Oliver and Helena have dinner. It was the first time we really saw Oliver be honest and open about himself. He's opened up a little with Diggle, but more in a pragmatic mission focused manner. With Helena, Oliver exposed his emotional and damaged self.
Leigh: I actually liked the ending, when Helena said she would ask how he got in, but that's what vigilantes do. I liked how she knew he was there before he even turned around.

Leigh: Emily and Aiden for sure. I expressed in my review how sexy I find this pairing! I also find it interesting how their fathers were both targeted by the initiative.
Christine: Ashley as a down and out, almost escort. I kind of loved that.

Miranda Wicker: The breakup of Stefan and Elena on The Vampire Diaries. Finally. Now give me more Damon/Elena balcony scenes for Christmas!

-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite quote or scene from the episode?
Carla: The heart-to-heart between Diggle and Oliver was necessary for moving the story forward. These two really do need each other.
Kate: I really enjoyed the scenes between Oliver and Diggle, especially the one where he was telling me how being a hero is more than just writing his father's wrongs. I like the direction it steered Oliver. A close second would be also when Diggle was...

Carissa: When they entered the disgusting apartment and and sherlock said..."ba whiff of exestensial despair..."
Brian: The opening kill scene. That mask was creepy as Hell and it started so cool. Ultimately I'd say why go to the trouble of wrapping the pillow around the head if you know you're gonna kill them anyhow,...

What was your favorite scene from the episode?

Welcome to our first-ever Arrow Round Table!
With this CW drama raking in the ratings, and coming off its best episode to date, we've convened Leigh Raines and Kate Brooks of TV Fanatic, along with Romancia from TV After Dark, to breakdown "Damaged." What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Gather around now!

What was your favorite scene or quote from the episode?
Kate: I'd have to say, as a 'shipper, the scene between Laurel and Oliver. You know, when she was undressing him and looking at his scars and it ended with a kiss. I actually felt the emotion from Oliver was real too because he lies to convince people he's the same guy. I love those two!
Leigh: Agree with Kate, that scene was totally sexy. I'll go with the polygraph test because we finally got some background and it shocked everyone in the room!
Romancia: "I've been the good soldier.

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Carissa: When Sherlock told Watson how much he enjoyed his insight into her career. I like when he acknowledges her and gets his head out of his own arse.
Kate: I really loved the scene when Carrie came into the apartment, my initial thought was "the girl died" but instead we got to see that Watson was indeed right then the line, "you were always a good friend Joan but you were a better doctor" and has harsh as that comment...

With Hart of Dixie Season 2 just one episode old, TV Fanatic has already talked to Scott Porter about life as a single man in Bluebell and to Tim Matheson about Brick entering the dating scene.
Now, Kate Brooks sits down with Cress Williams and talks to the man behind Lavon Hayes about Lavon Hayes running for Mayor again and Lavon Hayes dealing with his high school sweetheart. Read on for our Q&A...

What was it that attracted you to Lavon’s character?
The main thing is that most of the things that I’ve gotten to do over the years have been on the more dramatic side and I love comedy. Throughout my career I haven’t gotten to do a lot of it, so that was one thing was that I was able to explore and do more comedic things. At the start of Hart of Dixie,...

The new Spring 2012 issue of Cineaste is out and selections online include James L Neibaur on Kino's Blu-ray releases of Buster Keaton's work (as well as eleven more DVD/Blu-ray reviews), Andrew Horton's remembrance of Theo Angelopolous, Anchalee Chaiwaraporn and Kong Rithdee on the politics of Thai film and the opening paragraphs of Thomas Doherty's review of Nicholas Ray: The Glorious Failure of an American Director:
Generally admiring but never intoxicated, Patrick McGilligan's insightful biography is a chronicle not only of the troubled director but also of the Hollywood studio system at dusk, the vagaries of the multilateral skirmishes between French, British, and American film criticism, and the political follies roiling through twentieth-century America. The author of well-regarded biographies of Fritz Lang and Clint Eastwood and the editor of the invaluable Backstory series of interviews with Hollywood screenwriters (who all prove to be much more than...

Jean Simmons, the English actress known primarily for her role alongside Marlon Brando in the 1955 musical Guys and Dolls, has recently passed away. She was 80 years old, and her death has been attributed to lung cancer. Simmons made her film debut when she was 14 years old, with the British production of Give Us the Moon. Two years later, she landed the role of Estella in 1946's Great Expectations. A number of films led her to her next big role in Laurence Olivier's Hamlet in 1948, for which she won an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. The actress then moved from Britain to Hollywood in 1950, where she garnered another Oscar nomination for best actress for The Happy Ending in 1969, and ended up winning an Emmy Award for The Thorn Birds, a 1980s miniseries. "Simmons is one of the most quietly commanding actresses Hollywood has ever trashed," film critic Pauline Kael...

British Actress Jean Simmons passed away on Friday evening at her home in Santa Monica, CA from lung cancer. She was 80 (Jan. 31, 1929- Jan. 22, 2010). While her definitive acting roles are in Hamlet (Ophelia), Elmer Gantry (Sister Sharon Falconer), and Guys And Dolls (Sister Sarah Brown), my personal favorites were her parts in Hollywood’s Swords and Sandals epics of old.
As Varinia in Spartacus:
and Diana in The Robe:
Forever the working actress, Miss Simmons provided the voices in such animated films as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Council Member), Hayao Miyazakis’ Howl’S Moving Castle (Grandma Sophie), and 2005’s Thru The Moebius Strip (Shepway). She saw two Academy Award nominations in Lead and Supporting, awarded 2 Golden Globes, and won an Emmy for her portrayal of stoic matriarch Fiona ‘Fee’ Cleary, in The Thorn Birds. In 2003, Miss Simmons received the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her services to drama.
